Odie's Personal Log

AW enjoy the celebrity I'm surprised that anybody on a destroyer doesn't get sick OFTEN. Helicopter Carriers were bad enough. I got sick early in the stormy weather and it lasted3 days although I was able to function after a day and a half. We went though about a weeks worth of bad weather on the way to Hong Kong. going to and leaving the ship was on rock and roll. It was hell trying to walk up passageways when tou couldn't guage the frequency of the wave hitting the ship so the rolling was helll on any work that reqired a degree of prescision. Like giving a shot or putting in stitches. Also when I was in Hong Kong I could feel the ground moving under my feet and I was cold sober

Last night the ship was rocking really badly.  I got sea sick for the first time during this deployment.  The worst part about it is the whole ship know about it.

I'm sorry Odie, being sea sick is the worst. :(

Well you are an old salt after all. May I assume you are on your second enlistment. E-6 usually means you've shipped over at least once unless you were a wunderkind sailor. How would you describe the Navy these days, Granted you have opportunities now that didn't exist when I was in. What is the attraxction that keeps you in? I know had I not been a Field Medical specialist I might have stayed in with a better attitude. I saw the future and saw that any time I'd be up for sea duty it would be with the Marines. That didn't thrill me so I made every effort to get out after my 4 was over. I didn't get the good conduct medal but I was never at mast ether. This said in the interests of full disclosure on my part. I do admire people who can buckle down and stay within the discipline and demands that military life pushes on everyone. I was not one of those people

So I am curious to know why others choose to stay. You are obviously good at your job . not every one gets bridge watch. There is a lot of trust and skill involved. You can be rightfully proud of your achievements thus far.

I've just started my third enlistment. I have been in the Navy for 8 years. This is my second deployment. So far its going well even though I am very busy. I really like my job, which is one of the reasons why I am still in.

I think (I'm not sure, though) Odie changes the flag depending on where she's at. when she was in Japan, she flew the Japanese Flag, and when she was in San Diego, she flew the American flag.

Just as Krissy Phaserman stated about the country flag. Every single country that I have been or will be I will fly their flag.

I have left my second port visit in Aussie and heading towards my next one. I went on tour and I do have some pictures. I do hope that I can get up sometime this week, and that if I have the time to do it. Anyway, during the tour I got hold one of the koalas and he left me with a departing gift. :yahoo:

I do owe an Aussie sailor a debt of gratitude, for turning me on to Fosters beer in the depth charge sized cans. The only beer I had that I liked better on that deployment was San Miguel from the Philippines. It had that certain something, like a higher alcohol content, and relatively cheap price, that made consuming mass quantities fun.

Man, I never got to go to Australia! *whining off* But I did get to go to Hawaii, so I guess all is not too bad.

I really never understood why any beer from any country that I have been seems to a lot better than what is made in America.

even with a parting gift it sounds like a lot of fun

330708[/snapback]

It was still fun, and parting gift doesn't bother me to much.

I bet that being sea sick sucks but i give you a lot of credit being in the navy.

Being on ship can be fun. Very fun when everything is enclosed and everyone living closed together like a family. Well like a family there is a cold that is spreading around the ship very fast. Everyone is coming down with it. And guess what? I just got it yesterday! It really sucks big time.
