Cruiser. Cool, Odie! Hey, get this, the USS John S. McCain's XO's name? Lt. Commander James Kirk.

What?!?! I'm wrong?! Most ships that are named after famous battles are destroyers!

 

Lt. Commander James Kirk, now that's funny. You should ask him if he's a Trek fan.

Actually, Destroyers are usually named after PEOPLE, as are Aircraft Carriers and frigates. Cruisers are named after Battles or cities. Submarines after States(Boomers) and Cities (Attack subs) and Amphibs after Amphibious assaults.

I believe so. it's south of Tokyo, if I recall.

Did ya know that my dad was born in Tokyo? lived there for 13 years. My grandpa was a translator translating Japanese in the navy during WWII. And then became a missionary. My aunt and one of my uncles were born in Japan.

The Navigation Division Officer is working to find away for me to go on leave soon. Sometime today I will know when I will be on leave. I will be able to fly home and see my family in Yokosuka.

This morning my first full day on leave. Wonderful I think I can sleep in today. Nooo.... I was woke up this morning by one of the officers in my department saying that I didn't need to come in to work this morning because I am on leave. Oh well, I will go to Denny's for breakfast.

I can't wait until Monday comes and I am off to Buffalo. I only hope that the weather will be warm. I haven't been home to my family in 2 years. They will be very surprised to see me. I also can't wait to go to all my favorite restaurants in the city. I am very much looking forward having chicken wings in Buffalo. They are best in Buffalo and no other place in the world.

It is another beutifully day in San Diego. I have think on which should be my next duty station after my in Japan is up. I might try to get a ship in San Diego, but right now it is just a thought. If my OTIEP get approved I will stay in Japan a year longer.

I am wrapping my day in San Diego. I like the city here. I like the mall in downtown San Diego. I wish I had more time to explore the city, but I don't. I will be going home on Monday. I haven't been home in 2 years and I am so much looking forward to see my family again. There is only one down side about me going home for a month.

I am looking forward on my flight to Buffalo. It looks like it will be a long day for me! I will San Diego at 1:24 pm and I won't get into Buffalo sometime 1136pm. You gotta love time zones!
