  1. I have about 8 boxes full of comic books..superman,spiderman,batman etc..ahh what a wasted youth.

Wow, that brings back memories, when I was a kid I remember my neighbor would come over ever so often to trade comic books. he was maybe fifteen - I was ten; I can't even remember what comic books I had. I pretty much lost everything I had before the age of thirteen - which you wouldn't think would be a lot but I still miss some of my "stuff". Anyway, I've rambled. Who knows - you might want to check out what those comics might be worth.

  2. Do you have any unique collections? Not surprising, I have collected a few unicorns over the years. I also have a couple of faieries and I'm always on the look out for both. I also have a few dolls. Between family and co-workers we went crazy when McDonald's had their Madame Alexander dolls in the happy meals. We must have covered five cities to get the complete collection. Generally I don't go after the fast food toys.

    how about you?

  3. I think that Trip is an okay character.  But, frankly, he's being overused.  There's been so many plots and sub-plots devoted to him and not enough to my other favourite characters, like Hoshi, Travis and Phlox.

That is supposed to change next season... I don't know if that is good or bad. I think they have emphasized Trip because he's popular and they want viewers. I wonder if ratings will drop if he gets sidelined. I think Phlox is great and has already been getting some deserved airtime. But, IMO, Travis is kind of boring - his acting doesn't set well with me. I know guys like Hoshi because she's cute but I absolutely can not watch an episode with her; her whining is like fingernails on a blackboard. Maybe they'll send her to Rambo school during the summer.

    edited to rephrase sentence

  4. In a TNG episode, when the crew finds a satellite with cryogenics tubes and thaw four living people from the 21'st century Picard says that TV didn't last longer then to the mid 21'st century.

Yet, on ENT, Archer watches waterpolo on, what seems to be recorded TV.. And they watch a lot of movies, isn't that a bit strange if TV was eliminated that movies are still made.. Or do they only watch old movies from the time before 2050?

I think I have asked this question before, but never got an answer..

    What are your thoughts?

I guess the answer depends in part on what you define as television; the mechanics of viewing video on a screen or the concept of weekly dramas locked into a specific schedule.

Personally, I think this is another sweeping interpretation of the future made without thought or logic. Theatre has existed in some form since our earliest cultures. Before live plays there were narrative poems and oral traditions. I can't believe that the Dramatic Arts would cease to exist. It is likely that drama would be more targeted to a specific audience; just as cable channels have diminished the hold of networks. But I believe that some type of drama or visual entertainment would exist until the development of the holodeck and perhaps even after.

Now as to the format of television - weekly shows locked into a specific timeframe. I don't think that needs to wait another 50 years to go away. I believe the internet will offer greater and greater access to entertainment in the coming years. I suspect in time the two mediums will merge. I 'm ready for the day when weekly series are available "on demand" rather than at a specifc, arbitrary time. I already record shows to watch when its convenient - not when it's convenient for the network.

  5. I nulled my vote..  Blackberry pie.. My Grandma makes it..  At family camp outs every year we go to the same spot and pick blackberrys till our fingers hurt just so our Grandma will make blackberry pie.. :)

My grandma used to make blackberries and dumplings - I guess you'd consider it something like a cobbler. Unfortunately no one learned from her how to do it. OMG, I still think about it sometimes.

  6. It only happens in the winter, but on dark, snowy nights when I'm driving down the street, I imagine the snowflakes are stars whizzing by me at warp speed.  ...Does anyone else do something that's "Trekish"?

    Katy

When I did drive in snow I was usually too busy praying to think of much else.

However, I do refer to my seatbelts as inertial dampeners and my a/c as life support. My life support is currently offline.

  7. I was always a very mixed soda kind of person. I like it all. A few years ago however I had to pretty much give up soda because of some blood sugar problems. I found that I could drink diet coke but the more I found out about Asparteme (the sugar substitute used in most diet sodas) the less I wanted to drink. I now drink Diet Rite which is made by RC Cola. It tastes a lot better then diet coke and it's sweetened with Splinda which is much safer the Asparteme but still doesn't effect me like sugar.

When I was kid (okay long time ago); they had special summer movies at the local theatre (which no longer exists). The entrance fee was 6 RC bottlecaps. I haven't seen an RC in years.

Alright, does anyone remember Kickapoo joy juice? It was a soda when I was a kid.

I say soda now but when I was a kid we called them "cold drinks"; we went to the store to get a "cold drink" which was always a coke. And sometimes we got peanuts which we poured into the coke bottle. I don't see people do that anymore.

Oh, and I voted other. Zephyrhills water, Mtn. Dew and Ocean Spray Ruby Red Grapefruit juice.

  8. Maybe we could start a thread to post favorite recipes. In another section someone mentioned Chocolate Pecan Pie and that got me thinking. My favorite category would be easy recipes for those who hate to cook.

What do you think? Does anyone have recipes they'd like to share?

  9. If the officers have showers and wash basins in their quarters I assume they have the remaining fixtures as well. I guess crew showers would be set up the same.

Also, as I've pointed out before; jumpsuits are very inconvenient for visiting these necessary fixtures. You would think they had figured that out by the 22d century.

  10. I don't think affairs of the heart come easy to anyone. If you think she's interested she might be wondering why you don't ask. If it makes it easier you can always start by doing something with another couple...that's really helpful for those painful lulls in the conversation (that we all experience).

If you ask her out and she says no or if it doesn't go well ...it may be painful or awkward but you will live and you will get over it.

If you don't ask her out...you'll always wonder and you won't get over it nearly as quickly..if ever.

I guess it' sort of like swimming in a really cold spring. Do you step in one inch at a time or take a deep breath and jump?

  11. I voted not giving seats to the elderly. I've lived in several different US cities and not all offer very good access to public transportation. One incident that got my goat was a young man complaining because he had to stand up because a wheel chair bound person got on board; his seat was in the place that had to be folded up. He complained loudly for everyone on the bus to hear including the person in the wheelchair.

When I lived in the DC area you were grateful if standing room was still left when your place in line came up. I marveled that people had mastered the art of holding on with one hand and balancing their book in the other and reading all the way home. I can understand that some people need to start their workday as soon as possible and they may need to use the phone on the way in but since I like to read that would annoy me.

Now, I also live in a rural area so a long drive is my only option. When I lived out West I did see people get out their cross county skis and head to work after a big storm - that was pretty interesting.

  12. , i have no clue as to what it was, but because i saw it in the air, and dont know what it is it is a UFO to me,

That's what I meant by UFO - something in the air that doesn't have an immediate explanation . I don't think all UFO sightings are aliens - I am not sure any of them are but I can't say for certain they're not either.

also GOD never told us in the bible or other wise that he created us, and only us.

    That's true
