  1. What was/is your favorite in the field of social science? Mine is Psychology. As much as I love the "hard" sciences - I truly love the social sciences. I wish I had gotten in more Sociology. I am not a fan of Economics.

    +++++++++++ Edited

Ohhhhh Nooooooo..........The next post you see will be someone telling me I posted in the wrong forum. Time for bed.

  2. Here's one resource: they have a few pips in stock

    ST Costuming

Simplicity used to carry the TNG pattern but I haven't spent much time with pattern books lately. You could probably get a jumpsuit pattern and adjust the neckline and sew on a few pockets (sew pockets on sleeves before you put sleeves in body of uniform).

  3. I'd be really ticked with somebody who messed up my crop before harvest. Do any of these reports ever mention how damage these things do. I've seen how people do this too. Remember how one amazingly showed up in the US the week the movie Signs opened.

  4. and also

    Click for Spoiler:

The Shaft and Core Of Anubis' Ship Looked oddly like the Shaft and the Core From Death Star II in Return Of The Jedi.

you're right...I had the same feeling watching them cruising down that ship looking for the target.

  5. I'll put my comment in a spoiler - regards how signs are determined.

    Click for Spoiler:

Everything I've ever read says I'm an Aries; but then I found out that the dates used in Star Signs were based on the sun's course through the zodiac 2,000 years ago and the majority of people are actually born under a different sign than what the charts say. I would actually be a Pisces - even though I was convinced how much Aries did describe me.

If you run your birthdate through a program like Red-shift you can find out where the actual sign you were born under.

  6. And That Season Premire was Awsome

    Click for Spoiler:

    "He Is Jaffa."

O'Niell-"No, but he plays one on TV."

    I loved that line..

    Also,

    Click for Spoiler:

Did you notice when they were in the ship waiting for take-off O'Neill said "I thought we were going to go with Red Leader on this" Isn't that from Battlestar Galactica?

  7. I agree thayln.  I also voted NO.

Keep Capt. Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula).

I vote an emphatic NO.  Scott is a wonderful actor.  I'm thrilled that I get to watch him work in the Star Trek universe.

I like that he doesn't play Archer as the perfect hero.  The first human Captain to explore the Universe wouldn't have the assurance and the knowledge of other species that the later Captains have.  He has flaws, and he struggles with them, but he also has the seeds of greatness; intelligence, bravery, curiosity, and an almost obsessive sense of responsibilty, and dare I say, love for his crew.  He is also now carrying the weight of the world (his words) on his sholders.  His trial by fire is at hand.

Jonathan Archer isn't yet the Captain that he will become, but I'm loving the hell out of watching him get there.

Scott is a wonderful actor--I think the writers haven't given him enough to really get a feel for his character. I think now we will see some strength and fire in Archer, beginning with the Enterprise's journey into the Expanse. In my opinion, in the previous 2 seasons, Archer had this underlying fear of failing Starfleet, his father, himself. He consequently feared proving Vulcans right and Starfleet being forced to recall him and the Enterprise because of his failures. I think we will see Archer and therefore Starfleet gain more respect from the Vulcans (and probably other species) by traversing the Delphi Expanse to the Xindi homeworld and coming through it relatively unscathed.

Something that will aid in the development of Archer's character (and the other characters as well) is the manner in which he deals with the death of a crew member. We saw a touch of how he dealt with death in Cogenitor, but no member of the crew has been lost thus far. I don't like killing off crewmen (there are only 83, so you can't kill a red shirt/red stripe every week), but death unfortunately is a fact of life in the service.

I would also like to see a bit more humor in Archer. Everyone has some sence of humor whethe it be dry, subtle or warped (pun intended). That too would add some dimension to the character. All the other captains had a sense of humor; Archer needs one too.

    Couldn't agree more.

  8. I really like this site - and I like the courtesy people show for one another; I've noticed people of very different opinions can have civil discussions. I also like that threads with new comments float to the top.

I usually use ENT, Ten forward and off-topic. Though I occasionally visit some of the others.

Suggestions: Well since you like making videos you could make a new member video to introduce new members to the different forums and what goes where - but if their ISP was as slow as mine they'd leave.

Actually one thing I had thought about was a book club...not a ST book but something current that we STF.N fans could read for the month and have a monthly online chat to discuss in addition to having a pinned thread for the current month's book.

I've seen a couple of boards have a religion/politics forum - I know those issues come up here a lot - I think as long as people remembered the rules of courtesy we could do it; but based on some of the ones I read on other boards I wouldn't recommend it.

  9. I'm single like a true geek

Well, from a fellow "geek" or "nerd", nothing wrong with that...is there???

    Setting up soapbox:

Being single is a lot smarter than being stuck in a miserable relationship. Some people are fortunate enough to find a loving and compatible companion. I have watched a lot of people in my life that couldn't exist without a relationship and ending up taking whoever came along. One thing I noticed was a lot of these people weren't interesting it anything. I remember one roommate telling me her hobbies were whatever the guy she dated was interested in - I thought that was so sad.

Yillara, I am sure that once you finish school and begin working in your field (with persons of similar backgrounds) you will find your degree is an asset not a hindrance. I live not too far from you and well....this isn't exactly an intellectual mecca.

Bionicx - you call yourself a geek. Maybe that was once a negative thing but I think today geeks are moving to the top of the food chain. I think it's better to be single until you meet the right fellow "geek".

I am single - always have been; I would have liked for that to have been different and goodness knows I got plenty of unsolicited advice on how to do it. I've literally been told to pretend I wasn't smart; and even worse more than once told I should give up my religion in order to meet more men (at their churches presumably). On the other hand I've come across some older women - some married - some not whose response to my single status was "good for you". The whole point of this rant was that it is inconceivable to me that people think you should give up something of value such as your faith or your love of science etc. just to get a relationship. How much happiness would that bring?

    Thank you for listening.

    Fold up soapbox

  10. I too thought of Phoenix and Columbia; but then I thought Monoceros (Greek for unicorn) would be terrific - and I still like that.

But given the circumststances for this future time I thought maybe one of the following might be good.

    The Okeechobee

    The Sunrise

    The Everglade

  11. I know I got 12, 16 and 17.

I also believe I got 15 - on my screen my answer was first - I raised the issue at the time but no one responded.

For the future I don't think questions like 19 should count. I knew the car was a camaro and provided that answer so someone else could merely guess the year. I think the same thing happened to someone else on another question about 7's borg designation.

Oh well, it's amazing the details some people remember.

  12. You missintepretted my post.  What the U.S. Military Troops go out and do is very honorable as well as respectable.  However, I don't care how evil or bad a person is, I have a problem with anyone dieing, regardless of who they are.  Heck, I even cringe when I hear of prisoners getting executed.  My whole point that if it came to me killing a person, chances are, I wouldn't be able to do it, unless there were defenceless people about to die.  Unless it was an "act now or people die" situation, I honestly wouldn't be able to do it.  One of my main reasons, is that I believe all humans can be redeemed, so in my opinion, killing a bad person, well, that'd be like sending them to hell.  Keep in mind, that's if you believe in Heaven/Hell concept, heh.  That's why it bothers me when anyone dies, wether it be my neighbor or Suddam Hussein, life is life, and I believe all life deserves redemption, regardless.

    My apologies for misunderstanding.

  13. I was just currious.  All you teenagers and young men out there that have not served in the military, would you?  There's no way on Earth I would as I made a vow to myself to never kill a human being, heh.  What about you guys?

Just curious ...what if you have children and someone threatens them...would you stand by and watch them be slaughtered before you would risk killing someone to defend them?

Also nobody does well with watching another person die...that's the whole point, ordinary, frightened people become soldiers.

Well, if I was a parent, I'd do what I'd have to do to protect life.

Eh, I'm not a fightened person... well, except for snakes and creatures in the ocean. It's just that I am really big on preserving life, so being in the military and going off to war, well... I'd feel like I was betraying all my morals and principles, heh.

CJLP, you've touched on a topic I feel very stronly about. I know your opinions are influenced by your faith but so are mine and we believe we have a duty to defend our families and our freedom. I think our service mean and women are fulfilling the example "...greater love hath no man than this...that he lay down his life for his friends." Over the years many people have sacrificed their lives that we may live in peace and freedom. They deserve better than to have their names dishonored as being "immoral"

You ask a lot of thought questions so here's one for you. This is just something to think about. You consider it immoral to kill...what if this country were to be taken over by a totalitarian government which forbade any type of religious belief or practice. That would mean whole generations living and dying without being "saved". Which would be the greater evil...taking a life to defend freedom and thus the eternal souls of an unborn generation...or standing and watching that generation and many to follow pass on to eternal misery?

  15. If you don't have to work in order to receive clothing, food, entertainment etc why would you get up and go to work.

Maybe in the future, humans will be more driven. I'd work for no money if I had everything I needed, as long as it was a job I liked. Maybe the knowledge that they are furthering the development of mankind is all the payment they need. Maybe it's the satisfaction of a job well done. Maybe it's the satisfaction of doing something for others. Things do not always need to be done for material gain.

I suppose it's in the realm of possibilities but I personally doubt it. Only a handful of people on these boards can think of a living person they admire and yet within two hundred years we're all going to be altruistic -

As for replicators...someone has to build them, after someone mines or processes the raw materials, and ship them and keep track of who needs them and where; and manage how many need to be built within what time frame and someone has to make sure people are trained to both build and repair them and of course they need the tools and equipment which someone will have to manufacturer after someone else has to teach them how to.........

Personally I think providing equal access to money would be more effective than eliminating it.

  16. Please Note:

If there are any young people reading this please do not think it is okay to stand outside during a storm. I love storms but always watch from safety. Lightning is serious stuff - people die every year here in Florida from lightning strikes

  17. The federation is communist, communism that works, yes it is possible, but people need to open their minds.

The Federation is fantasy...it works because it's written that way. It is not the real world.
