I think that's pretty cool, really. Of course, I give it about 6 months to a year, but still kind of interesting.
What is the name of Nana Visitor and Siddig's child? It's right on the tip of my tongue, something to do with jazz I think .... help?!!?
Wait, isn't it Jango?

I think that Tom Cruise has gone off the deep end and Nicole Kidman jumped ship before he could take her with him.
Poor Katie Holmes ... she really is a pretty girl and could be a decent TELEVISION actress, but hooking up with Tom Cruise and L. Ron Hubbard is not going to further her career. Cruise has become just a little too creepy off-camera and Scientology is a bit of a fringe thing to put it mildly. Once you've established yourself as a big name star (Cruise, Travolta) perhaps your career can weather the fall-out of dyanetics, but Holmes has not reached the point in her career where she can throw caution to the wind and embrace and promote a cult.
I'll be seeing Batman for Christian Bale.
Please, do not take offense at the cult reference....I mean that most affectionately.

I must admit that I enjoyed watching them both, BUT I really don't think that either of them did much to promote our cause.
Of course, we're all able to laugh at ourselves because we as Trek fans can spot the exaggerations and exploitation of the fans who have kind of gone off the deep end with their obsession.
But people watching these shows who think that Trek fans are all like that, (and I think that those people include many of the decision-makers at Paramount), hurts our chances of ever really getting a mainstream, top-quality, Star Trek movie that really shows respect for all of us fans. I think that the stereotyping of Star Trek fans, underlined, supported, and perpetuated by both these "mockumentaries" helps justify the instant, out-of-hand discounting of our opinions on how the Trek franchise should go forward -- new series, upcoming movies, etc. etc.
People with power in Hollywood see us as a joke. Sad and hurtful, but unfortunately, true.

I picked Sisko simply because he's the Captain and represents the entire population of DS9. How in the world can I pick a favorite character? Maybe a favorite character per episode, but certainly not for the series!
There are no weak links in this chain, no "Mary Sue's" (except maybe Ezri ... we won't even go there. Ick.) Impossible to single one character out.
-
The box sets are worth every cent ... cast interviews, behind the scenes stuff, hidden files all over the place (at least on DS9). When you think of how much they were charging per episode on VHS, good grief, these DVDs are a steal.
We have all of TNG and DS9. We may start on Voyager, but I'm not sure on that one. We're also buying all the Seinfeld seasons. I just think that it's the only way to fly ... if you like a show, buy it. You'll have it forever and you're kids will be able to watch it, too. You can never count on television, especially now that REALITY TV has taken over the airwaves.

I voted "no" ... mainly because all it would be about is Seven. She was good enough character and all, but that last season .... pairing her up with Chakotay? That was stupid. Chakotay needed to be with Janeway and none of them should ever have gotten home. Had they left them in the Delta Quadrant, there would have been a "movie" in that ... big homecoming, Voyager finally reaching Federation space, Chakotay and Janeway dealing with the Maquis thing, B'lanna and Tom dealing with the same situation.
I just don't think there is anything left to say about any of the characters I want them to say it about. As much as I hated Kes, I didn't like Seven even more. T&A is just kind of boring and that is all she was there for. Likewise T'Pol in Enterprise....yawn.

Yes, I thought that Hayden Christensen (sp?) did a decent job in both AotC and RotS. Natalie Portman was pretty boring, but really, you can't blame the actors for lackluster dialogue. At least the story is good, so you can pretty much overlook Lucas' mediocrity in the dialogue department. I'll cut him some slack for the good story.
I thought that Revenge of the Sith was the best of all six movies ... and I am old enough to have been in on the initial Star Wars mania having seen the first one in 1977 at the theatre. It was huge and hard to explain the fervor it caused at the time. However, now that I have the first five movies on DVD and have now seen the last one four times, I can honestly say that it is the movie that finally did justice to the SW story.

As much as I love DS9, I voted no.The team that wrote and produced the series may not come back for the movie and I think the cast has moved on now to other things.
We had a superb opening episode, seven seasons of brilliance and an excellent finale. I don't think anything else needs to be addressed.
I was satisfied with how everything turned out in the end, and I don't want sub-standard writers or producers touching DS9.
DS9 should be left alone.
I concur, your Majesty. DS9 is the "uber-Trek" for me and it would be a travesty for Rick Berman to get his hands on a DS9 movie and completely destroy its credibility and its perfection with a substandard movie. (Can anyone say "Insurrection?" "Nemesis?" ... if that is the best they can do with TNG, I'd rather they didn't try to do the same "quality" production with my favorite series!)
Besides, the actors are just getting too old ... Interviews with Avery Brooks show him to have aged noticeably. Of course, I suppose that could be explained through a "touched by living with the Prophets in the Celestial Temple" for the past ten years, but it would take the loving hand and guidance of Ira Steven Behr to pull it off, a return of Avery Brooks to the Star Trek world, and a screenplay written by the creative staff of the DS9 series.
Everyone talks about the low "ratings" of DS9 ... well maybe not everyone, but it is certainly mentioned frequently enough out here. TNG existed in a sci-fi vacuum on television. By the time DS9 and Voyager showed up, there were dozens of offerings for the sci-fi geek. I would postulate that if TNG had shown up in the early to mid-90s, its ratings wouldn't have been "all that" either. It's not about the quality of the show, really, but all about timing. Only in a vacuum would the first season of TNG have resulted in a second season.
I voted "NO" DS9 movie, because I quite simply do not trust Paramount to make the right decisions in regard to the story, production, release date, or promotion of such a movie. Quite frankly, DS9 was just too good a series and those morons wouldn't know how to handle it.

Do you really think that someone who has never watched DS9 would truly appreciate this episode? If you don't know Garak and what he represents based on watching his character develop over the past 6 seasons, is it possible for a person to understand the level of Sisko's desperation in turning to him?
Just a question. It is a marvelous episode, but DS9 was such a "serial" type show that I think of the entire series as one long episode rather than 7 seasons of 25+ separate stories.
(I think that a better introduction to DS9 for a non-Niner might be an episode like "The Visitor" or even "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light.")

9. Nemesis
10. Insurrection
The last two were so horrible to me that I'd really rather not include them in this list. I found them excruciating to watch and they just made me sad to see how far below my expectations this franchise has fallen.

I saw that interview where he talked about auditioning for Riker. Combs even said that he was obviously wrong for the part and didn't even know why they wanted him to read for it.
I think that would have been strange, but I'm sure we would have liked him.

If I tried to write a book even at the age of 15, I wouldn't have been able to leave out all the elements of every book and movie I had seen or heard of up until that time. Imagine trying to write a book at the age of 30 or 40 with thousands of books and hundreds of movies running around up there in your brain!
Is Potter truly original? Of course not. Everything Jo had ever absorbed culturally, through literature, movies, day to day life is part of the books.
Tolkien was not original.
Stephen King is not original.
Shakespeare was not original.
George Lucas is not original.
Imitation is the highest form of flattery ... anyone creating a story brings all of themselves TO the work. You can't just tell one part of your brain: "You be quiet over there."
Just naming one of your characters the same as some dude in a bad movie from the 80s does not constitute plagiarism! That's a bit strong.
If I wrote a book and called my main character Brad Hamilton and had him working at a burger joint, would the "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" folks try to sue me? I think not. Brad Hamilton, Harry Potter, Larry Smith ... those names are just generic, could belong to any of us. Now, if I named a character Sonny Crocket and made him a vice cop, that might get the attention of the creators of Miami Vice. A name like Sonny Crocket stands out. A name like Harry Potter (prior to the HP phenomenon) does not.

Once again, your Majesty, you and I are sympatico. I really don't like Woody Allen (an overrated hack IMO). Coppola would have been a better selection to round out the top ten.
I also like Martin Scorcese (Gangs of New York is one of my favorite movies ... Daniel Day-Lewis is da bomb). I think he has more of a place on any director's list than Quentin Tarantino. Other than Pulp Fiction, Tarantino's work is mediocre at best. Just my opinion!

I have not read the screenplay. Whose decision was it to cut "45 minutes" of "character-driven" moments? Whoever made that call is not a Trek fan and should a person who is not a fan of the franchise have that sort of power over the finished product? Not if they really were interested in making money off of us.
Sometimes I wonder of Berman and company are even seeing the same Trek movies/television shows that I am ... I'm so completely baffled by the decisions they make and directions they go with this stuff.
It's really quite depressing. Oh, well, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is only weeks away. That will certainly help ease the pain of disappointment in Trek I'm feeling.

Isn't that the truth? People today are so lacking in any sort of moral grounding, historical grounding, and basic awareness that they can't recognize real quality or greatness even if stands up and bites them on the rear-end.
Entertainers should not even have been included on this dubious list! That makes the whole thing just another VH1 countdown (Lord knows we could use a few more of those ... gives Leif Garrett something to do.)

The Motels had a great song, I think it was called "Only the Lonely" (it was not any sort of remake of a similarly titled song).
It was really a good song. Maybe I should go try to find that one to download.

On a related note, the original members of Duran Duran have reformed and are touring again! Now there's a concert I'd gladly pay to see.
I'll have to catch this show, 'cuz I love 80s music, too.

You know what George Carlin says about picky eaters. That's just another name for a pain in the _ss.
Good grief ... everyone in the U.S. is overweight or headed that way. Is that McDonald's fault? Heavenly days, no!
When I was little, we went to McDonalds or any other fast food restaurant a maximum of once or twice a month. You just didn't eat out that often. Even when Mom was working, we ate at home every night at 5 p.m. No take-out, no pizza delivery ... she or I cooked every night.
People have just gotten so lazy about everything and everyone takes the easy way out on just about everything they do. My brother's kid eats french fries every day, or those fried mashed potato rounds, or tater tots, deep-fried chicken nuggets, etc. etc. I can't believe how they let that kid eat and the habits they've allowed her to adopt. She's still a bean pole, but obesity runs in my sister-in-law's family ... it's only a matter of time before all this fast food catches up with my darling 10 year old niece.
Today's parents are the spawn of Satan ... not McDonalds.

I like K-Mart better than Wal-Mart because K-Mart is never crowded. Wal-Mart parking sucks no matter what Wal-Mart I've visited. You can never find anyone to help you and when you do, they don't know squat.
It works a lot better if you shop at wal-mart.com to compare prices and see what is available. Then go to the store and buy the item after you've already researched and made your decision at home.
Wal-Mart is not the spawn of Satan and did not kill the "Mom and Pop" store. If I were Mom and Pop I'd go to work at Wal-Mart for the wages, the benefits, and the much lower stress level of working for someone else as opposed to running your own store. Who needs or wants that headache in this day and age, really. Let Wal-Mart do the worrying and enjoy your employee discount!

I agree with you ... did you read that quote from his daughter? Something about using this whole thing to get them some money to pay off the debt she incurred for her son's college education. Now could someone please tell me why her son's college education expenses are the responsibility of his grandparent, in this case Mark Felt a.k.a. Deep Throat? Or why is it her responsibility for that matter? Shouldn't the grandson in question be responsible for his own student loans?
If she couldn't afford the school she sent her son to, then why didn't he go somewhere that he could afford? There are plenty of them out there.
And that crack she made about Bob Woodward getting rich on all of this while her father just drew his retirement pension? You know, no one forced these guys to do the things that Woodward reported on ... he made a choice to look into it, Mark Felt made a choice to feed him info. Who knew Bob Woodward was going to get rich from all of this? And it is my understanding that the identity of Deep Throat was kept secret at the request of Deep Throat himself. How exactly is that Bob Woodward's fault that Mark Felt is not rich as a result of his involvement?
Woodward had a great story on the whole thing today in the Washington Post. Now that was interesting ... the entire relationship between Woodward and Deep Throat explained at last. The how, why, when, where of the whole thing.
Yes, Felt's family sound like real pieces of work.
Section 31

Dude, Sisko never whined.
Garak murdered the Romulan and Sisko reaped the benefit of the murder. If I remember correctly, Sisko had no idea what Garak was planning, but after Garak took care of business, Sisko didn't turn him in either.
All's fair in love and war.
Now Julian Bashir did his fair share of whining throughout the series, although it became less strident as the seasons went on.
I loved Section 31, the entire concept of it. In this uber-politically correct world, there are organizations like S31 that are necessary evils. While Pollyannas stride the globe (or roam the galaxy in the Star Trek world), it's always the guys in Section 31 who are out there doing the necessary dirty work.
God love 'em.
