i just got done reading your link, I CANT BELEIVE, yes i can really, HOW BAD PEOPLE ARE. if someone cant handle something so small, they should just crawl under a rock and stay there.

the reasons they gave for banning some of those books, was beyond stupid, but just plain sick.

how can a story about a blind person overcoming their handicap be bad, its just showing that anything is possible, thats possitive thinking not bad. people collectively need to just get over it.

yes the eagle nebula is really cool, i saved that one to my computer. actually i saved quite a few, but that one sticks out. its always amazed me that some people can actually look up to the sky and say, oh, so boring, my wife being one of them, anything space is out for her, but in acutallity there is sssoooo much beauty to behold in the stars above. i love to lay out on a blanket, on a dark clear night and look up into the stars. this sight brings those pictures right to me.

I think they did a great job in Regeneration, the borgs were really scary.. However, Voyager almost destroyed them in their episodes, they were real wussies.. 

well along that line of thinking what about first contact, everyone was losing their butts, till enterprise showed up, boom, suddenly they destroyed the cube without a scratch and followed the sphere into the past. its a show, its a script someone wrote to entertain. you cant have voyager face the borg, and get blown outta space, that would end the show. same with first contact, your supposed to feel that the enterprise is sooo much better, because of the blend of her crew and the ship, but in the end, no matter how scary you make them, their going to lose, so the show can go on. inevidebly after the first couple a times seeing them, your going to start getting the feeling of oh, they'll just beat them again, its part of the show. but its still none the less entertaining, i enjoyed regeneration, i loved FC, FC was and is my favorite TNG movie. so i think they did a good job writing the script, shooting the movie. the borg add an entertainment value most people like, so they'll be around the startrek universe forever, maybe not anymore in enterprise, but in movies or future series im sure.IMHO

your forgeting one thing, IT wasnt male, or female. so he wasnt a feminist. anyway, basic human rights are looked at by all freedom loving people, are they not, i know i beleive women have the same rights as man, black has the same rights as white, and so on. every human on this planet deserves the right to pursue their own life the way they want, except murder crime etc., the only places that dont do this on earth are those dictatorships, and other forms of government that repress their people for their own gain, which by the way are the people with the biggest guns. but mostly, those repressed people express a wantin desire for freedom, and THEIR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. ALL MEN WERE CREATED EQUAL. now onto startreks time. earth is pretty much united as one planet, thus humans have human rights, also to be part of the federation is there not bylaws about such things, no slavery, and any other kind of infringements of any beings rights. so therefore we are in a way imposing our views of inalienable rights, but its the choice of whoever enters the federation to do so. no if your not in the federation, or its a first contact situation, we have no right to tell them they are wrong in what their doing, just as much as they dont have a right to tell us about our business, TILL they want to join the federation, then there are guidlines that must be followed. but your also going to have to look at it from the standpoint of there people, if only 3 percent of your population was the third party needed to procreate, your going to have to have somekind of method to spread out the ability to have children, and protect these attributes. without them the world dies. no way to keep going generation after generation. i dont have an answer that would work, do you. so judge not lest ye be judged. walk a mile in their shoes first, then tell me how you would do it. its not like they just throw them around day after day, its a process, i dont know what else to tell ya. but i know you dont have a perfect answer either, im sure none of us do.

it would be great. maybe someday our children will be blessed with the ability to do so. we can dream.

meat eater all the way. i love chicken, and nothing beats a beautiful, medium filet mignon, oh yeah a tasty veal parm is great too. i've nothing against anyone for what they eat, i just dont like the ones that tell me i've just killed an animal. i didnt do it, it would've been done anyway, and i love it. just like i couldnt go deer hunting personally, but i do enjoy a good venison steak, or jerky. anyway the animal population would be so outrageous, if it werent for us meat eaters, we wouldnt be able to share the space with the cows, chicken, and deer. plus im a fussy eater, i cant stand anything with the word salad, im a meat and potatoes kinda guy, oh and i love the bread to go with it.

i had to go with dragons, there awsome. but i too like pegasus, and unicorns, as far as wizards, i like merlin, and the excalibur. i love fantasy movies. they just dont make them anymore, like they used too. too few, and far between.

i picked country, i was born and raised, and still live in the city. not much of one, but its called a city. idealy someday i want to move to norfolk area, preferbly more country close to city. i love acreage,and the clear night sky without any light pollution, but i also love the conveniece, and pace of the city. when i relax, or hang out i do it right, when i want to go do something, and have some fun, i also do it right, so i need both. but want to live in the country setting. i love to go riding dirt bikes, and four wheeler, and going out with the jeep, i miss my jeep, so you need the country to do those things. so its hard to say but i do lean toward the peace, and tranquility, and privacy, of the country for the most part.

Both, i've got a beautiful, friendly black german shepard, and a not so sociable yet equally cute grey and white cat. you should see the two of them sleep together, they also drink from the same water dish. so much for dogs hating cats, or vise versa. lol

as im sure most of us startrek fans are at least casual stargazers, or lovers of all things space. here is a link to a nasa sight astronomy picture of the day. they've got some beautiful pics on this sight, after you to there, scroll down to bottom you'll see archive, click that and you'll be able to check out all the pics they've put up since the begining a couple a years ago. some of thes are earth shots, some are hubble shots, not all are just space shots, but phenomonon as well, or different things. check it out its pretty cool.

I think they should show some smokers around San Fransico. I mean you always see the NASA ground control people smoking but of course there is no smoking on the space shuttles. A no smoking policy on board starships makes perfect sense, all though I'm sure there are still smokers, drinkers, and junkies on earth in the 22nd century. I mean if they can't get rid of coffee how are they going to get rid of smoking!

look at all the lawsuits agianst tobacco co.'s right now, and how many state, and local governments are pushing for bans on smoking. already here in new york, they passed a ban NO SMOKING ANYWHERE IN PUBLIC PLACES. more and more people are trying to quit, more and more people are realising that smoking is just plain gross, and stupid. not the smokers, just smoking, after all its severly unhealthy. why wouldnt smoking be gone, or almost nonexistent over 150 years from now. and anyway, why is it such a big deal to see someone light up a smoke on startrek? as far as drugs and junkies, maybe, but its a show, that says they've eliminated poverty, and the need for money. so theres no profit in drug smuggling, and im sure it would be near impossible to slip shipments by such advanced technology. as a planet, and a society, we are everchanging, and evolving, startrek is one mans vision of a GOOD future for our planet. so why would he put in drugs and smoking. plus you do see smoking anyway in holodec programs and such.

once and for all, we have had several opportunities to see any kind of flub in the timeline after FIRST CONTAC, after all they've had two more movies, and finished out the series of DS9 and VOYAGER, we saw nothing of a paradox. there had been no new thing since regeneration aired a few days ago, to show otherwise, no movie or new episode of something other than enterprise, so how can you say its all changed without new evidence to back it up. we are to assume somehow it all works out, after all it is just a show, however great startrek is, so as such it is for entertainment. oh yeah isnt this also the same franchise that brought spock back to life as an adult in the next movie, so they can do anything they want, including telling us it all works out just like it was. as far as the message goes, come on now, it wasnt definate that it got out enough to even make it there, and if it did it probably would be so garbled and such that it wouldnt make a difference, so let the timeline lye.

I might be mistaking, but I can't remember reading that they have even found any weapons in Iraq (biological, chemical or nuclear of course).

 

What I like the least with the war in Iraq, is that Bush went totally against the wishes of UN (and mosts parts of the world). I think it is undermining everything we are trying to do..

ok heres my input. what they did or didnt find, think about it, besides the fact theyve had 12 years of inspections to hide from, and since about 12/02 or 1/02, since bush first started talking about iraq too, to hide, and move whatever they had. its a country, its not like going into a building trying to find something. what gets me is that soooooooooo many people tend to forget that terrorists by nature will never, never, negotiate, or talk their way through something, they HATE US, THE USA, AND OTHER FREE, "INFADELS" NATIONS. WE ARE ALL EVIL to them. its been proven, that SADDAM has had connections with the first WTC bombing, and with terrorists. so what was bush supposed to do, sit around and wait for more attacks, NONONONONO, he did what he was supposed to do to protect all of us, went after them before they could come back, and make no mistake, they would come back, and probably will still keep trying to. war is sad, it sucks, and YES PEOPLE DIE. have you all forgoten the 3000 plus people that died on 911, when THEY declared war on the U.S.. how could you possibly feel the best plan of attack, was to sit back like cowards. our forefathers died to make this a free country, and died some more to keep it that way. why should it be any different now. also we are the LAST SUPERPOWER, that also makes us a target. were not going out and trying to take over the world, just defending our intersts, and MOST OF ALL, OUR PEOPLE, LAND, AND FREEDOM. we shouldnt have to live in fear of when the next attack is gonna come. PRESIDENT BUSH,is no idiot, or warmonger, or anything bad, he is doing what WE THE PEOPLE elected him to do, PROTECT OR FREEDOM, LIVES, AND INTERESTS. give him a break, and the rest of us who want to live without fear. he has enough to worry about, and think about. all gore would've done is sit back and go PLEASE DONT DO THAT AGAIN, we all know TIPPER wouldnt let him do a thing, after all she really would've been the one calling the shots, and that sure isnt what i wanted. those are my opinions, wether you agree or not is your right, thanks to military action throughout history, but whatever you think, DONT YOU THINK THAT UNITED WE STAND, means at least show the world we want to stand as one. give your support and hope for the best, instead of bashing, thats not gonna help a thing, and its only detrimental.

precisely, as i said earlier in this topic, their both different types of movies, and shows. startrek has 10 movies, and 5 different series, to show all the science and technology, and a story for everything. star wars has now 5 movies, when finished 6, no series, only enough time for a story, and excellent one at that, but a story, no science, or tech talk can be thrown in in that short a time. enjoy both for what they are, and dont try to compare them. thats like a customer coming in to work, and asking about our best garage door, then complaining about the price, because hes comparing it to the competitiors lowest grade cheapo door. you just cant do it.

The Vissians were awful.   Just because they have pretty, sparkling technology as opposed to the Tandarans doesn't make what they did any less reprehensible.   :(   That episode still resonates emotionally for me.

the vissians werent awful people, the third person is how they procreate, not a sex slave or anythnig like that. it was society that made the very, very minority cogenitor the way it was. they werent being cruel or anything like that. its not something we as humans would do, but this was a different species, and different ways. going off into space meeting new aliens, we need to keep an open mind with others traditions, and ways, or at the very least just keep the negatives to ourselves. im sure we do many things that other races would find apalling as well. as for bush and rumsfeld, they arent bad people, and the war with iraq was necessary.

I'm afraid this is exactly something humans would do. I've seen two different takes on Cogenitor - some have drawn parrallels to slavery - some to women's rights. Personally I think the analogy to either could be made. The cogenitor may not have suffered brutality but not all practices of slavery in human history involved brutality; nevertheless, a gilded cage is still a cage. As for the women't rights issue - well the cogenitor's status wasn't so different than that of women in much of human history; at times forbidden to own property, obtain an education; seek gainful employment, vote etc. In fact their sole purpose for existence was pretty much to bear children for their husbands; and they didn't always have a choice who they were going to end up procreating with. So I don't see how the Vissians were that different from humans except our social awareness developed along with our technology.

 

In response to the many posts on the cogenitor thread - I have a hard time understanding why it is okay to judge another human culture and even impose our values on them but we shouldn't do that with aliens. Everyone has made a big deal about how beneficial a relationship with the Vissians could be. We could have similar opportunities today if we didn't worry about political prisoners performing slave labor, sweat shops, child labor etc. The way I see it there is either a universal right and wrong or there's not. If there is we should apply the same ethical standards to all beings; if there isn't then give your officers some leeway for not knowing what the moral code of the moment is.

how can you compare an alien race's procreation process, to womens rights. or any other thing human for that matter. and im not trying to impose my morality on anyone here on earth, but universally HUMAN rights relate to all HUMANS, thus people of earth, not humanoids, otherwords aliens.if you go out and pick a fight with every race whos customs or ways you dont agree with. were all in trouble, might as well go jump off a building now. also only 3 percent of the visians were cogenitors, there has to be someway to divy them up to have babies, or the race of visians would die out. their not used in sex, just used for procreation. leave it at that.

look at it this way,i dont smoke, but im about to take the test for firefighter in norfolk, one of the required things to do to get the job, is ALL new employess of the fire dept MUST agree to, and sign a waiver of their rights to smoke on, and off duty. in other words you cant smoke ever. at home, on the bus, in your car, at work, in a bar. so if they do that now, of course its gone in starfleet.

Birds of Prey was designed to be a "filler series" between seasons.  It acually lasted longer than was meant to, but alas all good things must come to an end.

A cdr disc will only hold 80 minutes of video data so unfortunately that limits the amount of shows you can put on a disc, which is one. I don't mind though. CDRs are so cheap it only costs me about 15 to 25 cents an episode to archive it and have it for future viewing. Much cheaper than VHS and takes up alot less space. I'm thinking about buying a DVD writer though. I'm told I could store up to 10 episodes per disc. There is a free software application you can download that will format VCD or SVCD data so it will play on a DVD-r or DVD+r disc.

 

BTW, using bit torrents I can download each weeks episode, on tuesday, in an mpg format on my highspeed cable connection in one hour and fifteen minutes. Pretty cool! That way I can watch the show "commercial" free! Of course I don't get to see next weeks previews but I don't really care!
