  1. Parents should have been warned. Teenagers are still minors.

As for teachers giving their own views, I have a different opinion. I believe teachers should be able to state their views, but not impose their views. I teach math, but my students sometimes discuss political matters in my office (initiated by them). I give my opinion, and listen to theirs.

  2. The Borg regenerate standing up, and perhaps the reptilians do also.

The insectoids had more than two arms and two legs, and their offspring certainly did.

The male-centered Xindi were offset by the female-centered sphere-builders.

  3. I gave it a 9.5

It was overall a great episode I thought probably one of the best in Trek. The one thing that really sticks out in my mind is how they killed off Hayes, I mean what a crappy way to die he couldn't even defend himself I was hoping for something far more heroic for someone like Hayes.

    Click for Spoiler:

The way Hayes died WAS heroic! He let everyone else go first, like a real commander would. he accomplished the mission by seeing Hoshi out first. He was laying down fire to cover everyone else's exit. If there was anything to be questioned it was , as TUH said, why, while awaiting transport, he went to the middle of the hall, when everyone else stayed close to the walls?

  4. I'm not surprised at all VBG, you have the best run boards on the internet. It's no wonder people love to spend time here.

This board is well run. I just suspected before, but now I know. Even I am over 1000 posts. Shocker!

I wondered if Hoshi could have possibly sabotaged the weapon, but then I thought about the fact that she was not an engineer. She was able to add a layer of encryption the first time, but she did not have access when they were actually arming the device.

  6. I gave it a 9.5, though my only complaint is that it ended.

The fact that Archer is working just as hard to stop the sphere-builders and aid the Xindi as he is to save earth is striking.

Archer is still making less than ideal decisions...taking Hoshi in her weakened state, where moving her threatens her recovery, shows that saving earth is still the paramount goal driving Archer. But if Hoshi awoke even for a minute, like all the MAACO's after Hayes died, she would have volunteered to go. She was so brave, facing those Reptilians all alone...Hoshi, who used to be afraid of being in space.

It's zero hour---do or die. Do or everybody dies!

All the resentment I had of the Xindi at the start of the season has been transfered to the Sphere-builders. They are some of the most selfish creatures trek has ever conjured up! They are evil. This season of Enterprise has yanked my emotions up and down and all around...it's been a great ride! Who in their right mind would object to this show?

The Xindi, for the most part, have turned out to be pretty decent folk, who have been manipulated by the sphere-builders. Even the Insectoids demonstrated integrity and sincerity when they suspected the humans had spoken the truth, after it was clear the sphere-builders had manipulated anomolies to allow them to get away with the weapon. It will be interesting to see if any reptilians have more integrity than their leader. He ordered his men to fire on the insectoid ship as surely as Degra fired on the Reptilian ship. He showed once and for all that he is for the Reptilians, not for the Xindi.

How am I going to last to next Wednesday?

  7. Aw, gee.....

    1. From the time I was a little girl, even before TOS, I wanted to be an astronaut! I still know a song I learned in the first grade which starts : "I want to be..be..be.. an astronaut..." maybe one time I'll post it in RC's silly song thread (is it a thread?...)

    2. I was so shy in grade school I could not look a teacher in the face. I would always look at my shoes, or cast brief sideways glances at my teachers. I was brought to tears more than once by my third grade teacher who would make me look up from my book, look at her, and make me talk in class. Hmm...getting long again...defeated shyness by joining the drama club one semester in the seventh grade....long story.....

    3. If I had gone to my first choice in college (my father changed his mind) I would have been an English major.

    4. I really want to write published stories (not necessarily scifi or trek-based).

    5. I'm slightly paranoid, but not jealous. Since I am not the jealous type, everyone around me tells me their good news. I am also not vindictive.

    6. I am slow to spend or do anything with money. Once when we were still children, one of my brother's borrowed a dollar from me. He paid me back, and about three weeks later came to borrow another dollar. He looked at the bill I gave him, and declared " This is the same dollar I gave you a couple of weeks ago!" Apparently it was....I hadn't spent anything during that time. I am still kind of that way.

    7. In spite of what I just said, I just purchased seasons 5 & 6 of DS9 and the ST VI: The Undiscovered Country on DVD. I used tax return money, most of which went to an extra payment on the principal of my mortgage.

    8. There is virtually no one in my life that I have met or interacted with, taught or worked with, that I regard as unintelligent. That goes for people I see post on this board. ( I may still vehemnetly disagree with you, however.) I hate to see people regard themselves as unintelligent. For instance, uneducated to me is not the same as unintelligent. I have met adults with sixth grade educations who are wise, and worth listening to. I have flunked students, but not because they lacked intelligence...they did not learn the material...but they had good brains. That's how I see it.

  8. When I assign homework to my freshmen college students, which may be due the next day or the day after, it is usually designed to minimally take them two hours. Now that is in a single academic subject. If some of you are in high school, your homework should take more that 30 minutes to an hour. I can hardly believe what I just read. If this is going on all over the country, then no wonder my students go into shock when I actually expect them to study......

  9. If this wasn't specifically for ENT, why did you post it in the ENT forum?

    This IS the TOS forum!

  10. On one right now, I regulate my diet because there is a long line of heart disease and diabetes in my family so never hurts to start early.

This is absolutely, positively the right approach to take, and data shows it can... WILL most likely make a difference. You can avoid diabetes, for example.

I am on a diabetic diet, more or less. When someone was trying to encourage me about dealing with diabetes, they said I should look at it as an opportunity to learn to eat right. Well, I have learned to eat right, and my diabetes is under control, but the smart thing to do is eat right BEFORE you develop a chronic condition.

  11. There are all kinds of "excuses" one could use to get the Vidians to the Alpha quadrant. For instance they may in fact be excellent engineers, come upon that ruined Borg trans center destroyed by the Janeway's, or find a Borg ship with dead Borg, learn how to use trans warp drive, and lo! They can get anywhere in the galaxy in a reasonable time.

    Use some imagination!

Maybe they want to find humans and other species they harvested organs from and apologize, or make amends, and so are particularly motivated to develop their ability to travel. Maybe they invent some even more advanced form of travel than trans warp, trade with the Federation.....or what about this?

They develop some wonderful new engine, better than trans warp, and join the Federation...so that the Federation in now a galaxy wide organization, and there are once again new worlds for the Federation to meet.

Exploring the restoration of Vidian society could be both interesting and fun and in the best tradition of trek.
