  1. Reading one of the four links to this news today, I am a little concerned that B&B are in the process of developing a new scifi series that is non-trek. Of course they have the right to flow wherever their creative juices lead them, but it makes me wonder if they are committed to Enterprise's survival.

But I would want to see the new Star Trek movie, even if it turns out to be a pre-quel.

  2. I think we all have different ideas of what life is, what our purpose is etc. So it is difficult to give an answer based on my beliefs because they may be different than yours. However, basically I believe we can't foresee the future so we can't plan for every eventuality but we can develop the faith, resilience or resourcefulness that will help up us meet any circumstance.

Very true, TUH. And every new life experience causes us to develop new tools for coping with the next. My sister's death helped me be prepared for my father's passing. And faith is a soothing balm.

  3. Last but not least, Antarctica!

I was surprised to learn about a year ago that is actually a major tourist destination.

And I saw something like that too, TUH, and I said to myself, "This may be the closest I get to my moon trip!"

Antarctica.... Turned down a job to work there once, and still wonder what it would have been like.

    Ahhhh....the road not taken!

  4. Worf, because Picard missed him as his tactical officer once he was assigned to DS9, and I think that says a lot. In Insurrection, when he started to talk to Worf about how they were going to capture Data, Worf had already obtained a device to shut Data off remotely from Geordi. Then Picard stated that he had missed Worf, indicating he valued his tactical input. He kept Worf with him to help the Baku (sp), and sent Geordi and Riker and the rest of the Enterprise including his current tactical oficer back to commuicate with Starfleet.

  5. Outside the United States I would most like to visit Israel, in particular Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Those plans are on hold indefintiely.

I would like to see the pyramids in Egypt, and go on a safari in Kenya.

I would like to see the Taj Mahal in India, and the Great Wall of China.

I'd like to go to Kyoto in the early Spring.

I'd like to go to Rome to see the Pieta, which I think is the most beautiful piece of sculpture ever produced.

I'd like to go to the Louvre (sp) in Paris.

In the US I have been in 21 of the 50 United States, and some of these I visit regualrly. (I don't count "passing through an airport" as visiting).

I would like to visit Hawaii, Alaska ( again...I was conceived there), and Montana. I actually know someone who lives in Montana. All these for their scenery.

    Last but not least, Antarctica!

( But I have to say that back in the early 1970's while the moon missions were still growing strong I had the earnest expectation of one day being able to go to the moon as a tourist, and it was a resonable hope and expectation back then!)

  6. Click for Spoiler:

how can anyone's medical condition be confidential with Phlox shouting in his loud voice in a very small, open sickbay?  How could those crewmen lying there not hear him tell T'Pol there were only minute traces of trellium left in her bloodstream?

If Enterprise is the first warp vessel - what sort of ship did Trip have Taylor transferred off of?

Enterprise was the first warp V vessel...They had vessels that travelled at lower warp. Remember the Enterprise epsiode, told largely in flashback, where Archer was competing with a friend to test Warp 2 ships?

    Click for Spoiler:

Probably some crewmembers are beginning to gossip about T'pol. It has to come out somehow.

  7. I've been having a difficult time trying to review this episode.  Maybe I'll rewatch it - I was tired when I first saw it.  I gave it an 8.5 - it was good but I wasn't "wowed".  Trinneer was excellent in this episode and I agree Degra is becoming a fascinating character - I am developing empathy for him.  The actor (Oglesby?) is doing a terrific job.

    Click for Spoiler:

MJ, I agree the scene with Trip and T'Pol was touching and it was more "real" and "meaningful" than any others they have had.

If not for events of the last couple of episodes I might be able to warm up to her character.  I have to point out - she wasn't forced into a mind meld - she agreed to it - when it became too intense she wanted to back out and at that point she was forced to continue.  I know most people disagree with me regarding her drug issue but I just can't get past that they just blew it off like it was nothing and they wouldn't be in the mess they're in if she had been in control.  And this was another choice by her.  Sadly, I've found I've lost regard for Trip as a character because he is involved with her and that's sad because he is/was a great character and Trinneer is an excellent actor.

The upside is I've liked the development of Archer - he is showing great resolve - as someone pointed out - he is/was an explorer adventurer forced into the gravest of situations and he had the moral fiber to do what it takes for humanity to survive.  I loved that scene where Degra was amazed at the accuracy of their instruments and Archer pointed out the Enterprise was intended to be a vessel of exploration not war.

    Click for Spoiler:

For me the jury is still out on T'pol, and precisely because of your posts questioning the fact that the consequences of her drug addiction have not been handled well. I think the writers did not think it through, because to really deal with it would make things very complex and difficult for Archer, more so than they already are. I am waiting to see if a little Vulcan integrity asserts itself, and causes T'pol to confess to Archer.

I like this episode because there was so much going on between the characters (except Hoshi and Mayweather), substantive interaction, the kind that should have been going on instead of the teasing scenes.

  8. Many members here at stf.net had made the observation that it seemed strange that Trip was no longer focused on the death of his sister Elizabeth. Apparently this was a planned plot element by the writers.

"Forgotten" was a perfect title for the episode.

    Click for Spoiler:

In the exchange between Trip and Taylors' ghost in his dream, she implored him not to forget her. Symbolically that was Elizabeth imploring him. When Trip wrote the letter to Taylor's parents at the end, he promised to never forget her. But it was Elizabeth's picture and memories and feelings about Elizabeth that helped him write a heartfelt letter to Taylor's family. And the promise he made to Taylor's parents to not forget her was also a promise to himself to not forget his baby sister.

  9. I loved the episode...I gave it a 10. I love the fact that they have taken the time to show that the crew is struggling, both with emotions connected with loss, with surviving in a broken-down vessel, and with completing their mission.

    Click for Spoiler:

One of my favorite scenes was a scene with Archer and Degra where Archer admits that erasing another's memory is not a good way to build trust. Then Degra says the one thing he thinks the Reptilians are right about is the deceptiveness of humans. Archer does not really respond to that particular charge, because after all, they have done some very questionable things to get to this point, including stealing a warp core. Archer keeps such a straight face.

I think Degra is impressed with the desparate straits the ship of humans finds itself in, while yet pressing on toward trying to save earth. He sees the incredible damage to Enterprise. He sees the incredible bravery and self-sacrifice the crew is willing to endure in order to continue on. He has to be impressed with strength of character exhibited by Malcolm. He has to be impressed by the strength of will and single-mindedness of Archer. It also has to impress him that there is only one ship. The Reptilians do not believe there is only one but Degra must now know.

I also liked the scene with T'pol and Trip (I can't believe it...I finally liked a scene with those two) where T'pol, who could not find words of comfort, offered her hand. It was a great moment. Then she reiterated one of the facts that has been established about Vulcans in this Trek series, namely that Vulcans without logic have severe difficulty controlling their emotions. Remember the episode with the Vulcan that forced T'pol to mind-meld? T'Pol envied Trip in his pain because he could "handle" what he felt. A really great scene!

  10. My guess is that they will try to deal with the Romulan War in the pre-quel. Trek fans are looking for it, and if they deal with it in the movies, they donot have to ahve a protracted conflict in the series.

    OR

They might deal with the founding of the Federation! :assimilated:

  11. Number 3 is rather crude and insulting, ARMS. Why would you select one of the very few black female characters, out of all the attractive female characters, for such a low remark?

Most of the other obervations are witty and clever. Number 3 is insulting.

Because she was the CONN officer, not because of her race. Also because of her uniform aswell.

There are other clever jokes that could have been made with regard to her being a conn officer. The implication is that the next step is some kind of sexual act. No other female officer was singled out in such a degrading fashion.

I am amazed at how uncaring and unfeeling your repsonse to my embarassment and pain at reading that post is. I don't believe I have ever treated any of you with such callousness and disreguard. I am insulted by #3.

You want me to lighten up?

I want you to learn how to have fun without being so patently insenitive.
