  1. I would like to see a Star Trek movie where they meet the Vidians now, when they are no longer desparate. What kind of culture has developed? How do you go from a desparate, pirate-like culture, to having normal diplomatics relations with another species? How would other species who knew of their violence, or were victims of it, now deal with them? Are they isolated from other species? Do they have anything to offer as a race that others might want to trade with them for, and so risk getting to know them after all this? What was their culture like before the phage, and were they able to return to it? Answering these questions would make a good story.

  2. My backyard is actually association property, and I mainly see robins, cardinals, and sparrows. I have seen salamanders in our parking lot. I was told to look out for deer, but I have only seen one on the drive home, not near the property. On the walking trails in our develpment I have seen other creatures. There is a swan, and several mallards living on a lake at the end of one of the walking trails. A little more than just the back yard, but things I see regularly.

  3. I remember in one episode of Enterprise, the one where they had the ship of vulcans who lived without logic, there was a discussion with T'pol and one of those Vulcans about Vulcan teas. I wouldn't mind being able to try a Vulcan tea.

  4. I missed the episode Wednesday, so had to wait until today. I enjoyed the episode very much, but I still gave it an 8.5. I think I like it as much as last week's episode, which I also gave an 8.5

    Click for Spoiler:

I, like others have said, was saddened by Degra's death. Interesting how Enterprise, like true Trek caused us all to care about one of " the enemy."

He will be honored eventually as he never would have been, had the final weapon succeeded. As TUH pointed out, these people were considering evidence against beings they revered as gods. It says a lot about the character of most of those that sit on that council.

The difficulty of the episode is that right now it is kind of soap-opera like.....storylines are left dangling so you will come back for more, and the part with the sphere mission , though necessary for the final resolution , contributed nothing to this episode.

  5. It's been a good place for me, too. Although it has not affected me as deeply as you describe UA, it has caused me to do one thing that is completely out of character, and that is to converse regularly with strangers on sometimes quite deep topics.

I can hardly believe I began to talk here (I never intended to---I planned to lurk in the Star Trek forum...), and now of course, I go on and on and on. I am more reticent in real life, although I meet new people regularly through teaching....that is a well-defined format where the subject matter of "discussions" is what is being taught. I do get to know some students well, but that is over time, and with face-to-face contact.

Now I feel like I "know" people I have actually never met! I enjoy talking to them! How remarkable!

  6. ST, I loved Chakotay! Be still my heart! If I did not have Sisko and Worf in my avatar, it might have been Chakotay!

But on a serious note, I do not think Janeway could have united the two crews it she had made Chakotay only a second officer. She had to make him second in command. I think he was a good choice because he did not see things the way she did. Tuvok would have been a near Janeway clone in terms of policies and perspectives, with everything tempered by logic, of course.

  7. The Klingons also have red blood (when it hits the air). Unless you are going to try to pick up every subtly of shade, which makes even less sense, then there are going to be repeats in the color of blood.

There has to be a reason for the color also. For instance, the Vulcans' blood is based on the element copper, rather than iron.

  8. Well, for me it was between Sato and Uhura.

Sato had a bigger challenge in the performance of her job, and more personal challenges to overcome, her fear of being on a starship, for example. She also was a linguinstics prodigy. And they were just developing the universal translator. The translation of the language of the web-like creature that had the captain, Trip, a security officer, and two engineers captive, was brilliant.

Uhura was a more seasoned, reliable bridge officer who knew her job to the hilt, including being able to repair her station, and so had engineering as well as linguistic skills. In the Enterprise cartoon series, there was even an episode where she had to take command of Enterprise! That demonstrated initiatve. So she had the potential to be a command officer, had her ambitions led her in that direction. She was also skilled at other duty stations, as we have seen her operate the transporter. We have seen her handle the comm station on alien ships, and so forth.

Uhura is the more complete of the two. I voted for her. As Sato continues to develop, she will attain or excede Uhura's depth.

  9. I voted Eh?

I am not eevil (though if you ask family members they will tell you I went through some kind of transformation after getting saved and that I was very difficult to get along with before that, my most common comment being "don't talk to me!").

I almost never get angry now....although a few people at stf.net have provoked me every now and then. I am not at all vindictive, and I apologize when shown to be wrong, even to students and entires classes. I continue to mellow as I age. :)
