  1. You should check out Star Trek: Star Charts. It accounts for the discrepancy in the Quadrants, saying that there's a smaller area (or is it volume?) of space known as a sector quad (larger than a sector, I can't remember off hand) which is sometimes referred to mistakenly as a quadrant. Very cool book, its neat to see where everything is. Awesome.

  2. I'd tend to agree with Captain_Smiley. What probably happened was the Lakota was commissioned in the same time era as the Enterprise-B as an excelsior-refit or possibly an excelsior and was later refit. Excelsiors has long been the work horse of Starfleet. They say the ambassador class is but honestly, how many of them have we seen:

    -Enterprise-C

    -Yamaguchi

    I don't think we saw:

    -Excalibur

    -Zhukov

    -Valdemar

but they were mentioned. Excelsiors are still a very large portion of the fleet.

  3. Not a bad team. Defense is fairly solid, forwards could be slightly stronger but all in all a decent set: Allison can put the puck in the net as well as St. Louis, Messier and Andreychuk are older but still two fine veteran hockey players, Sturm and Kozlov aren't great but solid enough. Goaltending, could be stronger Legace is a great back-up but may not see a whole lot of action especially if Detroit has difficulty moving Joseph, Aebischer is a little unproven but has learned from the best and will have a strong enough team around him that his weaknesses may not be as exposed. Your reserves are a little suspect. Ditch Fleury, he's had too many problems and isn't even in the league. Oates is good but is unsigned as of today so he doesn't help you if you lose someone, but he'll probably be signed by the season's start if not it may be necessary to lose him. Yzerman's great, keep him. Cechmanek, can put up good numbers but can be downright awful, personally I'd lose him but give him a shot, if he falters get a new starting goalie and make Aebischer a reserve. Overall I'd give that team a B, solid Defense, a presentable and likeable core of forwards, goaltenders are okay but could be better, reserves may not offer much help. Good luck.

  4. Okay, try to follow me on this one. Its a little confusing and believe me I know. the NX-01 is named for the shuttlecraft Enterprise among others. The shuttle craft Enterprise was named for the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 from TOS. Presumably, the NCC-1701 was named for the NX-01 which was named for the shuttlecraft...etc. Makes my head hurt just thinking about it. but its cool in that it sort of connects our reality with the world of Star Trek.

  5. Breckin Meyer is perfect as Jon Arbuckle. I can't imagine anyone better. Bill Murray as Garfield sounds good too. There's something a little odd about the whole Bill Murray as Garfield though, you see: Bill Murray played Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters, in the Real Ghostbusters (the animated series) Venkman was voiced by Lorenzo Music at first (Dave Coulier, later on). Lorenzo Music provided the voice of Garfield in the animated Garfield Cartoon. Cosmic...

  6. CANADA ALL THE WAY!

any of my fellow Canadians interested in a hockey pool? We're working out the details over in the Sports forum. Anyone else who wants to can join too. Not trying to discriminate. Lots of people from all over the world love hockey.

    but...

CANADA IS THE #1 HOCKEY NATION!!!!!! :dude::dude::laugh:

  7. I think we could do it at www.myhockeyworld.com. Here's my idea of how to draft: So we decide on an draft order and all post in that order. Then everytime it is someone's turn to pick they simply edit their post to include a new player, would that work? If it does we take the lists and someone can make up the pool at myhockeyworld, probably me because I'm most familar with it (and its free). How many players though? I'm thinking ten player, and two goalies, and the point system would be

    Forwards/Defensemen

    Goal= 1 point

    Assist=1 point

    Goalies

    -Win=3 points

    -Tie=1 point

    -Shutout= 5 ponts

that's how I always do it. What do you guys think?

And we need more people, so far its me, bysty, Takara, and trekkiebabe.

  8. Thanks Takara, I wasn't sure how to pronounce that. I wonder who else we could get into this. Is there anyway to send a general Personal Message that says to post here if interested. Anyway, how are we going to do a "draft" to decide who gets which players?

  9. makes sense, I suppose. But didn't Soval say something about these co-ordinates being located within the Delphic Expanse. what probably happened was the writers realized that if Archer knew where to look it wouldn't be much of an story arc. So they 'destroyed' the coordinates, thus making it a lot harder to find the Xindi. maybe there's some sort of lost episode between the Expanse and The Xindi where the coordinates are lost. Who knows?

  10. I figured you'd be up for this bysty. Is your name pronounced Bi-sti or Bis-tee? Anyway, when should we get this started? I think I know a web site we could do this on but we should get some more people in it. We should spread the word. 4 people is not much of a pool. How about the idea of naming the teams after Trek things?

  11. This article has some good points but others won't work. Here are my takes on some of the ideas

    - new technologies? How does that work? IT'S A PREQUEL. They can't go nuts with new and cool inventions because they won't fit into the timeline.

-Enteprise can't really be funny like Star Trek 4, I don't think anyone can. By that time the TOS crew was well established having done 3 movies and the show but they also had the chemistry to pull it off.

-crossovers aren't to bad but it would be difficult because we've never been in this timeline before so we don't know what could be crossed over onto the show

-sign a big star? That would be difficult since stars tend to avoid Star Trek.

-caring about the characters is at the heart of every trek spinoff but its not instant. It takes more than 2 years. How many people cried when Yar died in the first season? I didn't. But after 15 years, how many cried when Data died in Nemesis. I did. Why? because I cared about Data but this caring came from a long history with the character. Same with Spock. No one cries for red shirts.

-I don't mind the idea of some famous writers and producers taking over but you also have to point out that Berman learned straight from Roddenberry and giving up control could take trek away from what it is.

-Anyone, notice that the author says that Enterprise has to go where successful action shows have gone before. One problem, at its core Star Trek is not action. it's sci-fi with its characters at the very core and hope for our future, that we'll one day get over all of our problems.

-what the heck do we care if weren't not getting made fun of? I don't really care what others think of Star Trek. I know a lot of people who don't like it but it doesn't affect my enjoyment. And hey, all the publicity Enterprise has been getting in the media about how bad it is isn't a bad thing. Someone is taking the time to criticize it and heck, it could attract more people to Enterprise to see what's up.

What Enterprise needs to do is move onto another network, a stronger network 9i don't know much about UPN but it appears to be pretty bad) and put itself in a new time slot with little competition, build a base that will follow it. What network does Stargate air on in the U.S., I mean new ones? What about putting them together on the same night. And promote! I live in Canada but the network that airs Enteprise is pretty good but it should promote more. Those are just my thoughts.

  12. In the immortal words of Chief Clancy Wiggum:

"Hey, I like it. I like it a lot."

seriously, an NHL pool would be great. I'd be up for it and I'm sure others would jump at the chance. Here's an idea, how about all the teams are named for something in Star Trek. ie: Jack Bauer's Jem'hadar, okay lame but you get the idea.

  13. Did you notice...

    Click for Spoiler:

-"Star Trek: Enterprise" in the opening? (I'm sure everyone did, it stuck out like a sore thumb)

    Click for Spoiler:

-T'pol eating with her hands and that her nose is still sensitive? (I know she ate the popcorn but this was more pronounced)

    Click for Spoiler:

-Hoshi was a little tougher? (she saw a body and her voice barely quivered. Very different from two years ago)

    Click for Spoiler:

-The internal mutation effect on Archer? (That was beautiful, great effect)

    Click for Spoiler:

-Travis was in charge for a while and had quite a few lines? (Not bad, and Hoshi was busy too)

    Click for Spoiler:

-How easily those decon agents turned on their own man? (Very callous but demonstrates how their race is determined to preserve itself from the virus. That virus must have really hurt their planet.)

    Click for Spoiler:

-"In Memory of John Fleck" screen? (A nice touch, wasn't expecting it)

    Click for Spoiler:

All in all a good ep. Fairly well written. Well acted, when I first saw the production report I didn't think Bakula could pull it off but he did a great job. It was so different from Archer I almost thought it was another actor. Park and Keating also did a good job but Jolene seemed to be lacking something in her performance but maybe that's just me. The make-up( I thought Hoshi looked really good in the Lo'kek make-up) and effects were great and of course, two new entries on the manifest: Palmer, and that Com Officer who took Hoshi's spot.

I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence with the "did you notice" thing. I'm just trying to highlight what I thought was interesting. I respect everyone on these boards for being so open and accepting. Way nicer than over at StarTrek.com. Also, I would mind doing this for every episode I can. Would anyone object to that? I don't want to waste board space but if you feel it is okay I'd be glad to. I take notes during the eps, just stuff I find cool.

  14. Click for Spoiler:

Yeah, it was a little like Identity Crisis now that I think about it. Still I thought it was a good episode. Two things, the picture of Malcolm isn't Malcolm, it's the guy who was toasted in the opening and Trip ran for the peach because it still had traces of T'pol's saliva (DNA) which could be used in the anti-virus.
