  1. I enjoy playing pick-up hockey. However, since I CAN'T SKATE (Well, I can a little) (I know its sacreligious). Anyway there's this relatively new elementary school (which means good pavement) in my area so me, my dad and my younger brother and I walk up, bring along our nets, sticks, and tennis balls and play some hockey for a couple of hours. Its great fun ( I have a pretty good wrist shot).

  2. This is creepy. :dude: Well, sort of. Remember my idea of three outdoor games on Hockey Day in Canada well, someone else has had it according to this article in the Toronto Sun today:

    How about three games outdoors?

MONTREAL -- The Heritage Classic in Edmonton was "unmatchable," but NHL clubs should look at staging more outdoor games, Montreal Canadiens president Pierre Boivin said Monday. One idea would be to have the six Canadian teams play each other outdoors on CBC's annual Hockey Day In Canada triple-header, Boivin said.

"It would be a day of celebration of our game," said Boivin, adding that minor hockey games could be played on the same ice to include all levels of the sport.

"That game (in Edmonton) was unmatchable," Boivin added. "It belongs in the history books as a once-in-a-lifetime event.

    BENEFIT TO THE GAME

"It's not about beating the attendance record, that's been set. But that said, it's how you take that event and turn it into a fan-driven benefit to the game. "That's why I think the Hockey Day In Canada idea is good," Boivin said.

"Edmonton did a wonderful job on it and it's definitely worth looking into in each market," said Richard Peddie, president of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd.

"But it might not work in each one. Logistically, it would be easy to pull off here. But could we come up with a reason, something special enough to have it?"

Okay, so this idea wasn't exactly hard to figure out. I just hope they're able to pull it off.

  3. I voted for the NHL because I LOVE HOCKEY and don't really care about football.

The NFL is obviously more popular because its a traditional American game and most Americans live and die by their football team. Americans just don't care about hockey (for the most part). I mean c'mon, the New Jersay Devils are unbeaten in nine and the Cup champions and they can't even fill their rink.

Hockey is the opposite, wildly popular in Canada as it is the traditional game and football has supporters but can't touch hockey.

Frankly, I don't care if Americans don't like hockey. I like it. It's fast paced unlike baseball (which I also like), its nearly constant action unlike football (I heard someone conducted a study and determined that the ball is in motion for only 8 minutes out of an entire hour of football) and hockey is relatively low scoring unlike basketball (basketball is good but just seems to be too back and forth for my tastes). Soccer is easily the most popular game on earth but it is just too low scoring for me.

These are just my views and I don't expect everyone to agree with them.

Of course, the NFL is a better league because every team has a fair chance and thigns can be radically different year to year. In the NHL, the Stanley Cup hasn't been outside of Colorado, Detroit, New Jersey and Dallas in nine years. But for my money, hockey is still more exciting.

  4. We all know that the Enterprise is always the flagship of the Federation. I've always wondered, what was the flagship of the Federation between the destruction of the Enterprise-C and the building of the Enterprise-D. I'm sure they had one in those 20 some years.

My theory was that it was the Excelsior. According to Interface (TNG) the Excelsior was still in service in 2370 so it presumably could have been the flagship during that time period I've mentioned. It could've even been under Sulu's command. Chakotay said that Captain Sulu sponsored his entry into starfleet and that would've have been just after the specified time.

Anyone else have a theory? (I don't think I posted this here, I did once over at the Startrek.com boards and didn't get any enthusiastic responses).

  5. I was wondering if anyone here has ever watched Slamball on Spike TV. Its like basketball but there are trampolines where the key should be and the players can bounce of them to dunk. Goaltending is legal, so is hitting. A lot of the guys who play are former college football and basketball players. I know it seems a little goofy, even stupid, but it is a lot of fun to watch.

Well, if you want to check it out, its on Spike TV at 9 ET (after MXC (another great show) tonight. Tonights game is the final: Riders vs. Slashers. These two teams knocked out the Mob and Rumble (the best regular season teams). If you're interested I recommend watching it.

  6. Yeah, Rexall doesn't sound nearly as cool as Skyreach. I'm sure you'll eventually get used to it.

Man, those images Takara posted are awesome! I think it would be so cool to go. BUt Bysty, do you know why they chose a game against Montreal? Is it because they are the most successful Canadian team or is it a scheduling thing? I think if they did a Battle of Alberta thing it would be a lot cooler, maybe on Hockey Day in Canada. It would still be cold enough.

OH MY GOD! I just had the coolest idea: what if for Hockey day in Canada they had an outdoor game for each of the three matchups? A Toronto-Montreal game at Skydome, a Battle of Alberta at Commonwealth and an Ottawa-Vancouver matchup in BC (I don't know where they could do it in BC). I think that would be a true celebration of the game we love.

  7. I'm not saying murder is okay. Unfortunately, its one or the other and if Sim decides to live he'll effectively murder Trip and if Trip lives he effectively murders Sim. Yet, if Sim chooses to live his life it will be short (that doesn't make it any less important) and he will rob Trip of a chance to live his much longer life. Its a very grey issue. However, Vulcan logic states: The needs of the many (Enterprise, Earth, Trip) out way the needs of the few or one (Sim).

  8. I have to agree with what Archer did. I look at as: Sim could have been given a chance at living but at what cost? If the experiment to prolong his life fails he can no longer be a successful donor for Trip. Therefore Trip and Sim die. Doing the tranplant ensures that Trip will live if Sim dies. There was only one guarantee and that is doing the transplant. If Trip and Sim die, everyone on Enterprise dies and Earth is doomed to destruction. As sad as it is Sim must die for the greater good.
