  1. Trip is a great character, I love his wit.  Kind of reminds me of McCoy in his way of behaving.

McCoy was a Southener too....a Georgia boy.

I think Trip is the most "human" human I've seen on Star Trek. Does that make sense? He's so full of life.

  2. I think the old policy was shelved because the response by fans would have created an overwhelming avalanche of submissions the likes of which had never been seen.

How about the computer idea, anyone have any facts about how they currently keep track of canon, do they use the same resource material as we do, publications. In this day and age, of computers and data storage and access, wouldn’t it be easy to archive old canon materials (and add new) in ways which would make retrieval and comparisons about how new ideas would be consistent with established facts?

In ENT first season - ep "Fortunate Son" Travis mentioned his sister and brother-in-law were left behind when left the Horizon. ENT second season - ep "Horizon" that sister and brother-in-law had become a 'brother'

So basically I would say they are not keeping track of anything. I think when they write something into a character's bio it should be consistent. You'd think they'd have a database or something where they maintain these updates. Hey, I just got laid off....maybe they'll hire me.

As for scripts - I am really not a script writer - as far as including including stage direction etc. But I would like to be able to submit a story outline that their writers could adapt.

Also please explain why you think we'd have conservative story lines? Or what you think conservative means? I don't think they've been very inovative.

  3. First, I wish Star Trek could sever itself from UPN because I think the show would be better quality if produced in syndication.

In one of the threads I sort of jokingly suggested there should be a Star Trek network on cable; the value of that would be the option of having several shows at once. But I think it might be sensory overload for the fans.

As for putting fans in charge of production - I think they would disagree too much to actually accomplish anything. I also think there is a lot more involved in producing a series than we realize and if we were in the driver's seat we might find ourselves making the same decisions we ciriticized in someone else.

I think it would be good if TPTB were to provide a website or other means for fans to provide meaningful input and/or suggestions.

  4. Do you have a favorite novel that you'd like to see made into a movie - or do you fear what some director will do to a character you love? Which book do you think would make a good movie?

First, I have to say I think Peter Jackson has done a wonderful job with LOTR - I was wary because I read the series twice when I was younger. The movies have been terrific.

Another trilogy I always loved was the "The Foundation Trilogy" by Isaac Asimov. This would be a major project but if they did a good job it would be terrific.

I think the SciFi channel produced a better Dune than the movie version; and A&E's version of Pride and Prejudice was great so don't count out TV.

  5. My favorite sci-fi author is Isaac Asimov - plus I've read some of his non-fiction books as well. I think Peter Jackson should set his sights on "The Foundation Trilogy" when he's finished LOTR. I would love to see that made into a movie but it would have to be done well - I don't think most directors could do it.

I haven't had a lot of time for reading lately and read non-fiction a lot when I do. I enjoyed reading C.S. Lewis and Jane Austen, and did read one Tom Clancy which was excellent

  6. I think I am doomed to have anything I like get cancelled in the first season. But fortunately networks are getting better about giving closure. I thought seven days had a final episode - maybe I'm wrong. J LaPaglia is on The District now

One of my all-time favorite shows was Due South about the Mountie that got posted at the Canadian Consulate in Chicago. The show was creative, had very clever humor and the two actors were terrific so it was cancelled; and brought back and cancelled again and produced in Canada for a year which we didn't get here until reruns.

I decided then that network people were crazy and vowed never to watch CBS again. I got over that part because I like CSI - But I'm still mad they cancelled Due South.

  7. I got all six but the way the question was set up I knew I the answer wasn't obvious. Also, when you've had to do a lot of proofreading at work you learn to count letters rather than read words.

Capt. Picard, didn't Cpt Kirk reprogram the Star Fleet Academy computer in order to pass the simulation exam? I guess you're just following in his footsteps.

  8. It would be close between ENT and StargateSG1; I don't watch the other two. SG is more creative and the characters' relationships are better developed, SG **Definitely** represents women better. However, I think ENT episodes as a whole have more depth and try to be more socially relevant. I think there is more complexity in ENT characters and plots. Still hard to choose - if ENT didn't have Tucker I don't know that I would like it so much.

  9. Maybe if you charged me a dollar each time I'd quit posting without logging in.

I'm set up so I stay logged in - but I am the only one who uses my PC - but it will still probably work if you sign into your ISP under different names? Maybe the support guys can answer that.

  10. I have to admit that i am not familiar with any of the actresses u mentioned, but i would have to suggest someone like Megan Leitch who played Kira in the SG-1 episode 'past and present'... She played a doctor/scientist in that episode and i guess she just seemed perfect for that kind of role, i could totally see her as a counsellor on Enterprise

Is that the one where everyone lost their memories when they got younger - And Dr. Jackson really her. I liked that actress.

  11. If ever there was a thread that would get my attention - this is it. I love Commander Tucker - he's just darling. Did you check out the thread about who you'd most want watching your back on an away mission? He took the lead because everyone knows he's going to watch your back. Oh, and Tucker is a Florida boy, that's just too good. My favorite scenes are in Cease Fire when he's on the bridge - so cool; Stigma - when he talks to Phlox about Feasel - so charming; and Oasis - that kiss was so sweet; and of course that bit with the Denoblian and the phase pistol. Oh thank you for giving the opportunity to go on so.

He was what kept me watching at first but in truth the crew is getting better; I've gotten quite fond of Archer and Reed as well.

  12. If I understand the concept of "prisoner delimma" games - that's what politicians are doing. They seek to get re-elected ie their own interest rather than the good of the nation as a whole. Truth is, I wonder how many would get re-elected if they voted to shut down a worthless project that nonetheless provided jobs to their district.

It's still depressing and I think some of our "programs" just make some social problems worse which will mean more taxes.

  13. Suzie Plakson's always great for a recurring role but I think she would make a good ship's captain as was mentioned in another thread. She could be an alien that becomes an ally with Archer.

I think Susan Debney would be good as a counselor or a scientist - but I read she was working on another show. I'm mentioning mainly females because I think the balance is off as it is. There's another actress I like - Kristin Lehman - she played the girlfriend on the short lived series Strange World and she had a guest role on Andromeda - I think she could play a "real" officer. Hoshi just isn't convincing as an "officer" - she's whiney and high maintenance; gifted linguist or not - if she wears the uniform you need to know you can count on her.

  14. Well, since I've had a little extra time on my hands I decided to see some movies I'd heard about but never had the chance to see. Warning, these are not action/adventure movies - a couple are even chick flicks. Kleenex recommended.

From least liked to most liked

    3. Divine Secrets of the Yaya sisterhood - movie was okay but the yaya part was a little silly to me

    2. My Big Fat Greek Wedding - it was good - I would have seen it even without all the hype. Unfortunately, no movie (except LOTR) has ever lived up to the hype.

    1. The Other Side of Heaven - my definite favorite and it reminded me how full life can be when you love people.

  15. There's speculation that there may be character changes in the third season. What new character do you think we need. There seems to be agreement from previous posts that a recurring role of nurse or physician's assistant is needed. What other character would you like to see?

I would still like to see a another female officer - one that doesn't wear a catsuit and higher ranked than ensign like Lt. Commander - you know, I'd like to see a science officer that gets excited by science. Why do they make science officers Vulcans? Science is not boring - but T'Pol makes it seem that way.

Maybe they could use a Chaplain or a counselor, but I would like to see more science like an Anthropologist and/or astronomer on board - at least in recurring roles. In truth a lot of characters would probably need to have dual specialties to be on the first star ship. You notice how many people show up in Sick Bay during an emergency - where are they the rest of the time?

  16. I thought those costumes in TOS - A Taste of Armageddon were a hoot - check out the men's pantlegs. This picture is the best I can do.

Personally, I like Trip in the tan, away mission uniforms rather than the blue jumpsuit.

  17. For American posters (I don't know much about other governments)

I get so depressed when Congress passes a new budget. They tax us to death and yet have no shame in funding these self-serving pointless little projects or well-meaning progams that simply don't work. Does anyone else feel that way? Do you think Americans really have any hope of getting Congress to act responsibly with our tax dollars?
