  1. TOS - Mr. Spock

    TNG - Lt. Commander Data

    DS9 - Major Kira

    VOY - Lt. Paris

    ENT - Commander Tucker

Movies: Lt. Saavik (Kirstie Alley) or the whale keeper in ST IV (played by Catherine Hicks)

  2. Since Trip is supposed to be from Florida I was going to limit this to Florida/Florida State but I tried to expand a bit. Let me add that football is not my area of expertise but I tried to pick schools that had good teams or engineering programs. While they've never said I take it as a given that Trip would have played football since he mentioned in Vox Sola it was his favorite sport.

Personally I'd like to see him wearing an FSU T'Shirt the next time he shows up in the gym.

  3. As far as "Precious Cargo" went, the guest actress was simply not up to par.  I'm not offended that Trip had sex, but to base an entire episode around it when there's zippo chemistry between your actor and actress is pretty pointless.

I think basing any entire episode on sex is not what Star Trek was about whether there is an attraction or not; that was my main objection to this episode - not to mention it was such a worn out stereo typed plot.

    Oasis was sweet.

Now Trip and Hoshi should be the ones having some romance.

I really dislike the character Hoshi and I wouldn't wish her on such a nice guy as Trip. He would need to be involved with someone mature and strong for it to be believable for me. There was a character in Voyager - I think her name was Lindsay Ballard that seems more like the type he would get involved with. He plunges into adventure - Hoshi whines about her shadow. I like equal relationships so he should have someone closer to him in rank a Lt. at least a Lt. Commander or even another commander would be best.

  4. D**m it Jim, I'm a doctor - not a popularity contestant.

McCoy was the greatest, One of my favorite lines was on the planet where the spores created paradise. The leader told him they didn't need doctors and he said "No? You want to see how fast I can put you in a hospital?"

  5. I picked four episodes from both seasons and tried to pick those for which I had seen a lot of complaints or no mention whatsoever.

I voted for a Night in Sickbay. What little plot this episode had was best suited for one of UPN's sitcoms rather than a drama that is supposed to be for mature people.

  6. Is this you moulinrouge?

WHAT??????  You didn't include "A Night in Sickbay" as one of the choices?  I'm outraged!!!   ;)  :D If, however, you want to do a worst ENT episode to date, I am so there

    Ditto!!!

    .

That leaves "CeaseFire" and "Future Tense." Since I can't tie them, I'll rate Cease Fire as number one by an eyelash.  Soval's interactions with T'Pol and Archer rocked, as did Trip in command. However, Trip and Malcolm's musings about the wisdom of knowing the future as opposed to living your life as it goes in "Future Tense" was just about my favorite scene of season two so far.

You are so right - that scene between Trip and Malcolm was terrific. Small, well-done scenes do more for character development than whole episodes like "Precious Cargo"

  7. I agree that the bottom line is the bottom line - if it will risk profits it isn't going to happen.

But then I'm not interested in seeing any of the regular cast members become romatically involved with anyone. Civilization is about the only episode where a little romance worked and that was more just a hint. Oasis had even less a hint but I liked it too. ANIS still makes me cringe as does "Precious Cargo" . In other words the people writing this show don't know anything about real relationships.

I think "Stigma" vaguely tried to address the issue of stereotypes and prejudice but it sounded more like obvious preaching down to us than meaningful examination of an issue. And that tactic definitely will not win viewers. IMO

I really liked this episode - and I even found a Klingon that I liked. In fact I think I learned more about Klingon society in this one episode than the last 35+ years. And whether they realized it or not they explained how a lot of cultures develop. If something is promoted or popularized by those in power to the exclusion of all else - people soon forget there is anything else.

Ah, but I'm wandering. I also like that Archer got to be a man of honor himself. And I loved that they "sprung him". I've been rethinking this whole prime directive thing. On one hand it sounds quite sensible and noble; on the other - why should someone lose their life in a prison camp because a bunch of bad guys don't like to play fair. This episode was

  9. Trip drips sex appeal like no one I have ever seen. He's charming - even when he's cantankerous he's a doll. I love the accent. So I voted for him. But Captain Archer (Scott Bakula) is a sexy man :wow: and maybe my age is showing but he has the maturity (As long as I can forget I ever saw A Night in Sickbay) that Trip doesn't have yet. Oh well, and then there's the real world. :wow:

  10. I had to read this post out of curiosity. As of my posting time T'Pol has no votes - the folks at UPN would be mortified. What shocked me though was the number of votes that Hoshi has. Serious question here - isn't her constant whining and incessant negativity a turn off? In real life it generally is.

  11. I haven't seen too many Voyager episodes like the one where Naomi comes on board Voyager.

Grim episode in general dealing with multiple dimensions but the baby was born (via transporter- I bet a lot of women wish that part was real) on board; her mother discovered she was pregnant soon after Voyager became lost in the Delta Quadrant

  12. I WANT A FEMALE COMMANDER TO RIVAL T'POL FOR SECOND IN COMMAND.... WE HAD SPOCK VS MCCOY THROUGHOUT ORIGINAL SERIES AND FUN WITH QUARK AND ODO AT EACH OTHERS THROATS. THIS TOO COULD BE FUN.

Hmmm...you got me here. It could be fun but Tucker and T'Pol are supposed to have that sort of Spock/McCoy relationship. And I wouldn't want to lose their wonderful arguments.

  13. i think it would be nice for Archer to have someone to relate to regarding captain duties and stuff and also ther could maybe be a little romance thrown in to spice things up for him a bit... i think that if he gets together with T'Pol i will stop watching it!!!

    I totally agree

  14. I think most of my complaint is the 7 of 9 catsuit and her sexy, pouty look. I have absolutely nothing against sexy and pouty, but I don't think it belongs on a Vulcan. That's why I think it would have been better to have a sexy human bombshell on board, if they really wanted one.

I agree or even a Denoblian female. I noticed none of the Vulcan males dress in catsuits.

  15. [The Wisps did say that they were once like us so there for evolving is implied. Also Q once said that the Q's used to be like Humans and that one day the Human race would evolve to be even more powerful than them. The wisps had evovled to a point at which body and soul no longer ment what it does to us now. And because of this they had the ability to set the Enterprise crews souls free while they took over the body. The Enterprise crew however, who still have yet to evolve, did not possese the knowledge to seperate body and soul so even if Humans are dual natured it wouldn't matter.

The point is that our consciousness or inner wisp which the episode implied we have was able to survive outside of our body at this time. Many scientists today emphatically denounce near-death experiences, even though the evidence is pretty amazing. If we already possess this ability to survive outside the body - then if we learn to remove ourselves by mechanical or external forces such as stopping the heart (which happens in near death experiences) it is not evolution. My point was that since modern science denies an inner consciousness do the writers realize they're contradicting science.

Also, I'm still not buying the evolution concept just because the writers threw in the word. Evolution involves gradual changes to the DNA as naturally occuring mutations become dessiminated throughout the population. For the ability to leave the body to be affected by evolution it would have to be a biological process. On the other hand if everything we are, think, feel, remember etc. is a product of brain chemistry as is argued by many scientists - then we would not be able to exist outside of our body so "evolution" would be counter-productive which is the opposite of what evolution means.

    5. Does being converted to energy automatically give the ability to transcend the boundaries of space/time? It didn't in TNG or TOS.

When your talking about the "unkown" the science that we know doesn't always apply. Was Q limeted to space/time? I don't think so..

All previous ST series took great care to use the best scientific knowledge and theory they could. Pure fantasty or speculation is not theory. If we convert (or release stored energy) matter to energy that energy now doesn't transcend space and time.

    6. If we have a dual nature - ie a consciousness that could be removed shouldnt the means be mechanical - like a power surge rather than mental will as T'Pol implied? How is a forceable takeover a temptation?

Not necesserly. Remember that they couldn't get to Docter Phlox either. The human mind seems to be a very fragial thing. It is un-organized, un-controled, and very cahotic therefor taping into it would be very easy for a species that had evolved to the point that they were nothing but whisps. The Vulcan mind however is very deciplened, organized and controled. They have telepathic abilities and are well practiced in blocking things out (i.e. emotions), so I think that it is very believeable that their minds would be harder to enter.

I'll buy that they may be better able than some humans to resist temptation because that's how the writers described them. But my point was that if the wisps are using some sort of force or physical ability it has nothing to do with our "mental" control. Dr. Phlox simply wasn't physically compatible. However, given the amazing things that some humans can do as far as controlling their heart rate by controlling their thoughts even today I'm not buying that humans are weak. And those who made it through star fleet training would be more disciplined than the average human.

    7. Remember TOS - where the three surviving "consciousnesses" of a dead race inhabited Kirk/Spock/female doctor. They weren't energy wisps they hung out in orbs (Spock hid out in nurse chapel for a while)

I'm afrade I don't see the scientific flaw in this. If it is possible for a race of beings to store a persons consciousnesses in an orb, than I can't see any reason why another race of beings could evolve to the point that their consciousnesses could survive as flying whisps. That makes about as much sense as saying "Just because some apples are green, shouldn't oranges be green too?"

The issue was not the ability of other species - the issue was the ability of humans. In TOS our consciousness had to be stored in a receptacle when removed. In this episode they were able to fly through space and time. Whether or not we could survive outside the body would be a function of our physical capabilities (aliens didn't create a consciousness we already had it)

I saw several other flaws as well but I only have so much time. Truth is I enjoyed the episode from its adventure standpoint. That one scene where Trip was standing behind the screen was a creepy/cool shot and I was glad to see Travis more involved.

    Can't remember this episode...

It was called return to tomorrow and guest starred Diana Muldaur (in one of two guest starring roles)

  17. I enjoyed the adventure aspect of this episode but the logic and science seemed terribly flawed and I'm only an amatuer scientist. Any thoughts?

    1. Didn't the fact that the wisps could remove the crew from their bodies imply that humans are dual natured and if the wisps could remove us we should be able to learn to remove ourselves - no evolving necessary.

    2. How do wisps travel in subspace yet are not able to survive in space - if they are noncorporeal why do they need a ship? If they can't repair the ship how do they pilot it? And how did they travel through space between ships.

    3. How did Phlox resuscitate everyone just be changing the air supply?

    4. If they shielding in the Catwalk kept out the wisps - how did Trip get in?

    5. Does being converted to energy automatically give the ability to transcend the boundaries of space/time? It didn't in TNG or TOS.

  18. I love Enterprise but haven't been happy with their portrayal of women. Hoshi is just too whiny and so negative about everything. T'Pol is more a sex symbol than scientist (I guess they have to have one). If they got a sexy new nurse then T'Pol could concentrate on being a Vulcan scientist.

I would like to see a recurring guest star that was a combination adventurer/natural resource protector - sort of like The Crocodile Hunter in space. Of course she would also be beautiful - this is television.

I'd also like to see a female Star Fleet officer - that was just a normal competent officer. I thought a very by-the-book security officer - an ensign would add some depth the female population.

My personal preference is for the female scientist (exo-anthropologist?)- who is an officer and who would specialize in new alien contacts. (She of course would probably be beautiful too?
