  1. So Data uses contractions sometimes. Maybe Song gave Data that ability but he jusr never used it much. As you remember, Data could also dream but he did not dream until later on in the series.

That could be true, the dream program was only supposed to be activated when his programing reached a certain level of development. True, it got activated sooner due to the incident in Birthright Part I. Maybe that is the case, like the dreams, the ability to use contractions was already there. I know I saw a thread here recently speaking about how they noticed that he could easily speak French which does use contractions in the proper speech pattern...so if that is the case and he has no problems there, then maybe in some form he does and can use that ability though he is/was not aware of it.

  2. I have not heard from sexykitten69 for a while now...

She is one of my sister's (EmilSoong's) best friends...so I will ask ES about if she has heard from her, and ask her to pass on all your birthday wishes to her.

ES has not been online much lately either, though(and her birthday is exactly one week from now).

  3. on my mom's side: German, Norwegian, Danish, Scottish, Cree Indian, Polish, Irish, and Welsh, and a little bit Russian. (I have relatives, never met them, still living in Denmark)

on my dad's side: German and Norwegian, with a little bit of Irish. My grandfather was from Norway (and I still have relatives, though I never met them, living in Norway).

  4. Well if you notice the mood now, its going back.

I am glad to hear that  . I have not been around here much as of late, kind of had a lot of things going on (including the fact I am a member at another board, as well as a moderator at another). I was a bit shocked to sign on and find this thread, so I am definately glad to hear that things are returning to normal.

  5. As being a part of our civic group  in my home town i was in the.

Nutcracker 9 years  (insert joke here )

oh, no...no need to insert a joke about that. B)

I was in my city's production of the Nutcracker in 1999. I was the soloist Russian(I love that piece of music!!!!! "Trepak"  B)) OK, OK I like ALL the music from that ballet. But, mainly I got to showcase my skills as a gymnast (just retired last year, after a 20 year career). Plus except for the parents, and the people portraying Drosselmeyer, Mother Gigone, Cavalier, Sugar Plum and Dew Drop Fairy.......I was the only other adult, at age 19, in the cast(the two others in Russian with me were a little under half my age)

I also like ballet (took advanced classes in 2000, and after only 5 months I was almost en pointe), and jazz.

Plus, when I was little I learned a lot of the Norwegian traditional dances :dude: , as well as dances from my other ancestral countries. personal favorite the Rhinelander (I have always said it..never wrote it, so I am not sure if this is how it is spelled).

A classmate who was an exchange student from Egypt taught a few of us basic belly dancing moves (though my little sister was better at it than me, LOL)

Of course in gymnastics, a floor excercise routine requires you to dance. And I always choreographed my own routines(well, when I was in optionals or performing in an exhibition anyway)

ok, ok, ok.....long story short, I do like to dance.

  6. What unusual mixtures of foods do you like?

For me nothing particularly unusal in mixing food... though when we have roast I tend to take mashed(or cubed) potatoes, put the peas or green beans we usually have on that. Then the pieces of roast, then pour on the gravy. And then on top of all that, if we have any, I sometimes place a little sour cream and butter into that mix.

This does not bother most of my family, but it makes my little sister (EmilSoong) gag. She has a big problem with most food touching. She freaks out when her food touches (but likes pizza, or ice cream with chocolate sauce....so go figure  )

As for unusual......that honor goes to my little brother(wookieofborg). He is like the king of really weird combinations. Like him taking and making a sandwich of chicken cordon bleu, with mashed potatoes and gravy and spaghetti and meatballs.

And that is just a single example....

but then my mom said I ate the following when I was an infant and toddler...

    Click for Spoiler:

chocolate ice cream with ketchup on top. but stopped eating taht when I was around 2 1/2 years old.

  7. Just finished the new TNG novel "A Time To Be Born" (which is a part of a series of books coming out this year).

It was interesting, and as it was supposed to it gives some insight as to some of the events seen in ST: Nemesis. In this part of the book series, Wesley's appearance and why Data seemed like he did not have emotions(as well as why he made his decision at the end of Nemesis). these are not particularly spoiler for the book , since they can be found on the preview/description of the book.

However, it adds some events that make the novel a little confusing at times and hopefully with the addition of the following books it will clear up a bit.

Next month's book is "A Time To Die"

  8. I believe that Yillara and Emil are related however I could be wrong about that.

You are 100% correct RikerChick. EmilSoong is my little sister.

In my case my screen name is a character from a story I once had in the works, but once again it has fallen by the wayside.

Similarly, EmilSoong's name has to do with a character in her story(that I believe she might have finally finished, and has nothing to do with Trek.) Emil is the character's first name, and Soong was because my sister likes the character of Lore (Data is my favorite. :hand: )

One of my uncles(my mom's side) actually had a small part in "Illegally Yours", but ended up on the cutting room floor (OK, I counted him as an extra, but I honestly do not recall if he had a speaking part in it). And my aunt(his sister) catered for the cast and crew, occasionally).

That movie, bleahhhh....it was aweful. And one of my biggest complaints is that they cut and pieced the town together. They have stuff that is in the historic section(downtown), with stuff on the island. And stuff that is north of town with stuff that....well you kind of get the picture.

  10. I live in Norway. In a city not far from Borgheim....

Cool, my grandfather was from Bergen. He moved to the USA not too long after WWII.

I live in the US, but have been to Russia(for 3 weeks when I was 13), and on that trip there was a several hour layover in Ireland.

I sometimes think I would like to visit the nations that make up my heritage, but that could take a long time and way much more money than I have....LOL, about 9 or 10 different nations. Only ones of my ancestry that I have visited are the ones that I just mentioned.

  11. Emerald, for two really good reasons.

    A) It is my birthstone

B ) my favorite color is green

Other birthstones I really like: garnet (January's birthstone), Amethyst (especially in its geode form!!), Fire Opal, sapphire, pearl, blue topaz is pretty(better than yellow topaz anyhow).

Non birthstone ones I like: quartz(pretty much all colors), agate, jade, turquoise, tourmaline(even though it is pink, is kind of interesting), tiger's eye, star sapphire, star ruby.

I know quite a list there, but I like collecting rocks and stones(geology is one of the many sciences I like). Actually, that is something that runs in my mom's side of the family. Most of my current collection I actually inherited from my grandmother.

Oh, I though of another neat one...Sunstones.

  12. This is me...

    QEMR: Scientist

The Scientist is always coming up with a new theory: how the universe started, how it will end, why humans still fear the dark. The Scientist has trouble communicating with lesser minds, and is often found hard at work and alone.

I think this one works out pretty good since my goal in life is to be a scientist  (well, that and I still desire to be an astronaut...which both have been a goal since I was about 3 or 3 1/2 years old) .

  13. I change mine from time to time, but for awhile now I have had a quote by Data in Nemesis, and a snippet of a song I like to sing.

I have had many quotes in the past...so listing all my old ones would be kind of tough.

Might change mine a bit soon though, I am not sure.

  14. 38% (Yankee). You have a good Yankee score.

    LOL, this makes sense.

I was born, and pretty much completely raised in Florida(2 years in NY though, which was where my little sister was born). But, most people think my family is from the North, either that or from another country(usually from one of our ancestral countries).
