I have a cousin who has the same first and middle name as me-just a different last name. I was around first, so when the family gathers, I'm Colleen and she's Kelly, to avoid confusion. That same aunt had a baby boy a few years after my cousin Kelly was born and gave him the same first and middle name as one of my brothers! Having someone else in my family with the same name doesn't bother me, but my mom was a little peeved at my aunt. "Why can't she think of her OWN names for her kids!!"

If you ask me, you're making much ado about nothing. I mean, where is it written that Star Trek fans must hate Star Wars and vice versa? I am a Trek fan through and through, but I did enjoy the first three Star Wars movies as well, and I don't feel like a "traitor" at all.

While perusing another Trek message board, I happened across this site. I've been looking around for a long time for decent Star Trek themed desktops and screensavers, and this site has them! Figured I'd share it with my friends. Check it out!

It was great, I had never seen so many things blowing up in one place before until 1/4 of the way through it stopped playing, I'm not sure if the error was on my end or not.I don't think so AE, because the same thing happened to me! I do have the Quicktime plug in, and I use a cable modem, so I have no idea what the problem could be.

First off - Do you have RealOne?Master Q
StarTrek_Master_Q@yahoo.com
I think I deleted it a while ago because it tried to take over all the audio/video on my computer. I prefer Windows Media Player.

I've been adapting to my new 4X10 work schedule and helping my friends move on my days off. I'm getting used to the schedule now and my friends are getting settled in to their gorgeous new home. You should be hearing from me a bit more regularly now!

I just watched the eppy where B'lona (sorry about the spelling) found out she was preggers. Good eppy, but it made me extremely angry. To think that she wanted to 'change' her child ticked me off big time. That baby is going to have a totally different life than hers and what gave her the right?Your feelings are what the episode revolved around. If you recall, Tom was totally against B'Elanna messing with the baby's genes because (I'm paraphrasing Tom Paris here) "you'll not only be changing what she looks like, but WHO SHE IS!!" The doctor and Captain Janeway were against the procedure for the same reasons. As far as Janeway not punishing B'Elanna for reprogramming the doctor, that left me scratching my head, too.

I clicked on the link and all I got was a blank page with no sound. I'm not using IE as my browser. Could that be the problem?

Way to go VBG and all the mods who helped this place become the best Trek site on the web!! I'm not surprised we won an award. I always knew this place rules!

I voted for the red, white, and black uniforms featured in STII-VI. The tailored jackets looked great on both the men and the women, and I liked the rank pins. The only thing I didn't like about them was the red stripe running down the side of the pants. Reminded me of a band uniform I had to wear in grade school!

Could this be due the Blaster?I doubt it. I'm watching the national news right now and they're saying it's a power outage affecting Con Ed customers. Something about a power station in Niagra being overloaded and causing a cascade effect. But you never know!

This is a worm written to take advantage of a vulnerability in Windows NT systems (NT, 2000, and XP). This vulnerability was announced two weeks ago on TechTV and Leo implored all viewers to download the patch RIGHT NOW. I did, but apparantly alot of people didn't. Part of my job as a customer service rep at Time Warner Cable is Tier 1 RoadRunner support. If a customer is unable to get online, I verify that the modem is working correctly before passing them on to Tier 2. On Tuesday, August 12th, we were inundated with calls from people because when they tried to get on the internet, they got an RPC error message and their system would suddenly reboot after one minute. They immediately thought this was the fault of their ISP (RoadRunner) and called us. They waited on hold for 20 minutes only to have me tell them to call their computer's manufacturer or Microsoft. I had many irate people calling me some very vulgar names!!

People used to have a hunger for Star Trek they don't have now. We've been flooded with too much trek too fast (IMO). They need to stop for a while and let people develope that hunger again. I still haven't been able to catch up on all the shows, there's too much. You hit the nail on the head, RC. Back when the TOS movies were released, they were the only new Trek episodes available on film. Trek fans waited with anticipation for each film's release, and tickets were sold out weeks before the movie opened. People were GLAD to see our heroes in action once again, and that joy was palpable in the theater. It made attending a Trek film FUN. Nowadays, people complain about silly little things like the color of the uniforms being wrong or the fact that Beverly parted her hair on the wrong side. It's kinda sad.

I've read all of Shatner's novels and loved all of them except "Captain's Peril." That book was more of a murder mystery with Kirk and Picard playing detectives. I just couldn't get in to it.

It brought up some questions in my mind though. I believe AOL has out lived it's usefullness and unless they mutate into something along the lines of the Cable modem business they will no longer be around in the next few years. I know that not everyone can afford Highspeed access, and not all areas have highspeed access but I think the day is coming that the cost and availability will kill AOL.As most of you already know, I work for Time Warner Cable, a division of AOL Time Warner. AOL does offer high-speed access, called AOL broadband. The cost is $54.95 a month, and it utilized a cable modem. I, too hate AOL. I can't stand all the pop up advertisements you get when you log on, and their outright refusal to let you cancel your account. A couple of years ago, I purchased a computer from Gateway which came with one year of AOL for free. After the one year trial expired, they started debiting my checking account for $21.95 a month. Then, one day, I decided to sell the computer because I needed some extra cash. I called AOL to cancel my account. I got transferred at least three times, and finally spoke to a woman who tried to talk me into keeping a limited account which would allow me to continue using AOL e-mail for the following four months free of charge--as long as I remembered to call back four months from that day and cancel. I told this woman that I had sold my computer, and her response was "Well, you can go to the library or something and check your e-mail!" I said forget it, cancel my account. She said OK, and I thought that would be that. Wrong. The next month, my bank statement came and and lo and behold, there was a debit from AOL for $21.95. I got back on the phone. This time, I got a lame excuse that I had cancelled my account less that 7 days before the billing cycle so it was too late to stop the debit. I asked them if they were going to refund the money they took for a service I wasn't using, and they actually said NO, like this crap was MY fault!! I hung up the phone angrily, hoping that would be the last time I had to deal with these idiots. Nope. The next month, another $21.95. Back on the phone. Do you have your cancellation authorization number? My what? We have no record of you cancelling your account. YOU DON'T? If you can't provide me with your cancellation authorization number, we can't refund the money. I WASN'T GIVEN A CANCELLATION AUTHORIZATION NUMBER!!! Sorry, ma'am, there is no record of a request to cancel this account. I'll place the order now..your cancellation authorization number is blah, blah, blah, blah. WHAT ABOUT THE FIFTY BUCKS YOU OWE ME?? Ma'am, you never notified us. YES I DID YOU.....oh the hell with it. I hung up the phone and immediately called my bank to tell them NOT to allow any further debits from AOL. I have RoadRunner now and I am completely happy with the service. Oh, and ever since Time Warner merged with AOL, our stock prices have dropped by at least 50%. There goes my pension. Thanks AOL!

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this in previous posts, but here I go again. I've seen ALL of the Trek movies in the theater at least once. The first six I saw multiple times. I'll admit I am a TOS fan, but that's not the only reason I didn't see the TNG films multiple times. It's hard to put in to words, but the atmosphere has changed. The crowd isn't fun anymore, and they don't "get into" the movies like they used to. Maybe it's because the first four movies were the ONLY new Trek we had-there was no TNG, DS9, or VOY on TV yet. The crowd would cheer when their favorite character appeared on screen, or when Kirk kicked the bad guy's butt. It's not like that anymore. Now people complain more than they cheer. The "party" atmosphere is gone, and I miss it.

No TOS remake!! Nobody could portray the "holy trinity of Trek" like William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and the late DeForest Kelly. What I would like to see is a mini-series based on the happenings behind the scenes while TOS was being filmed. We could have young actors portraying William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelly, Walter Koenig, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols and Gene Roddenberry. As far as a regular weekly Trek series? I would like to see one starring George Takei as Captain Sulu in a series based on his adventures as the captain of the starship Excelsior. That way, Shatner, Nimoy and the remaining TOS cast still with us could make an occasional cameo appearance. What do my fellow TOS fans feel about that?

During the early seasons of Voyager, B'Elanna was portrayed as an angry, bitter ex-Maquis who is forced to work along side the people she hates the most-Starfleet officers. I'm sure this made the character unlikeable to many viewers. During the later seasons, she begins to "soften up" as she develops friendships with Janeway and Harry Kim and then falls in love with Tom Paris. This made her character a bit more likeable. Seven of Nine appeared cold and unfeeling at first, but that's because she was a Borg drone since early childhood, and had no idea how to relate to others as an individual. Watching her learn about her feelings and deal with them was much more interesting and moving.

Well, in my opinion, Chakotay acted more like a ship's counselor than a first officer. He never made any command decisions, and Janeway basically used him as a "shoulder to cry on." She made a tough decision, and then she would call Chakotay in to her ready room just to ask him how he felt about her decision. Her mind was made up, regardless of how Chakotay felt.

I saw Nemesis in the theater, and I haven't yet watched the DVD. I really didn't care for the movie because I thought the story line was very choppy-really rotten job of editing there! The battle scenes did impress me, but there were too many plot holes, many of which are mentioned in previous posts-ie, why was Wesley wearing a Starfleet uniform in the two second shot we see of him at the wedding? I thought the story line was waaaay too much like The Wrath of Khan-the captain meets a villian who is out for revenge, and a beloved character dies saving the day. But lightning doesn't strike twice, and this movie was no where near as good as The Wrath of Khan. The scene between William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy while Spock is dying still brings tears to my eyes over twenty years and multiple viewings later. The TNG crew's reaction to Data's death left alot to be desired..."Oh bummer, Data's dead, let's toast his memory, clink, boo-hoo, that's it."

I saw it as a TNG movie with a couple of TOS characters appearing in it. I disagreed with the decision to kill off James T Kirk-he deserved a much better send off than that!!

I wish you the best of luck, trekzone, but don't get your hopes up. The main reason Paramount won't accept ideas or scripts from fans is that today's society is completely litigation happy. Way back when, when Star Trek did accept scripts from fans, they began to get calls from lawyers. These lawyers wanted to get paid because a recently broadcast episode featured a character that had the same initials as a character featured in a script submitted by his client....you get the picture. As long as there are ambulance chasing lawyers, Paramount will not accept fan submitted scripts or story ideas. Sorry!

Nurse Chapel
in Star Trek

I wouldn't consider her a regular cast member..more of a recurring character, like Luwaxanna Troi. Chapel, originally, was written as a one shot deal for the episode where the Enterprise finds Roger Corby. Gene then wrote her in as a recurring character to keep the mistress happy (I don't think Gene and Majel were married yet at that time).
