  1. Which ISP are you with? I recommend dumping them, and SOON. Are you using broadband (cable or DSL)? I have been using RoadRunner, an ISP associated with Time Warner Cable, for about 18 months now, and have NEVER had a problem. Sometimes I do lose my connection, but that's only when there is a service issue (both TV and internet) in the area, and it's always fixed within a matter of hours. If it's available in your area, check it out!

  2. 8. Keeping the AOL icon on desktop.

ROTFLMAO!!!! Oh, and regarding #1, even though you have caller ID, you can still get in trouble, especially if more than one person lives in that household. Case in point: My friend Kari lives with her boyfriend, Tom. The phone bill is in her name, so the caller ID displays her name. Kari and I both have a sense of humor which can run on the raunchy side, and we kid around alot. One day, my phone rang. I checked the caller ID and saw Kari's name. I answered the phone thusly..."Whaddup 'ho? How many tricks ya turn today?" There was a second or two of silence, followed by Kari's boyfriend's voice..."Um, Colleen? This is Tom. I was wondering if you've seen Kari today..."

  3. Thin mints all the way!! I got in trouble as a child when, as a Girl Scout, I was selling them myself. One lady placed an order and when it came time to deliver them and collect the cash, she denied ever placing the order. Instead of sending them all back, I ate the two boxes on Thin Mints which were part of her order. Boy were my parents pissed at me!

  4. Yes, I have a sig (see below). The pic of the Enterprise and the "Mrs Kirk" font were added for me by VBG. When I first joined the board, I noticed the pic of the Enterprise on his sig and the same font on his user name. I PM'd him for help, since I was still figuring out most of the stuff on this board, told him what I wanted, and wha-laa! I had a sig! The quote I stole from a poster over at TrekBBS. I saw it on one of his/her posts and laughed my butt off.

  5. This thread reminds me of a line from a movie called Field Of Dreams..."If you build it, they will come." VBG, you have built an awesome site where Star Trek fans can discuss the series they love without getting bashed or spammed, and make many new friends...and we are coming in droves!!!

  6. The most memorable scene for me was Spock's death scene near the end of Star Trek II. I have the movie on DVD, have probably watched it a hundred times, and that scene still brings a tear to my eye. IMHO, it's William Shatner's best performance ever!

Spock: "I have been...and always shall be...your friend. Live long and prosper

    Captain."

    Kirk: "NO!"

  7. My vote goes to the freak out the censors and Bible-belters Kirk/Uhura kiss! After I read the behind the scenes story regarding that kiss, it made it so much better. TPTB at the time wanted the kiss filmed several ways, including filming it so the characters don't kiss, it just kind of looks like they do, just to pacify the Bible belters. William Shatner was so upset about the ballyhoo over this kiss, he purposely blew each scene where they "pretend" to kiss by crossing his eyes or doing something stupid. That rendered the "pretend" scenes unusable, and the "real" kiss had to be broadcast! Way to show 'em Bill!!

  8. I saw this commercial for the first time about 3 or 4 days ago and laughed out loud when Leonard Nimoy came through the door at the end! It was great!!! I'm hoping this means that Mr. Nimoy has changed his mind about retiring from acting...Star Trek XI-Reunification????

  9. Aw, come on now CJLP!! Ever since these talented gentlemen announced their project on our message boards a couple of months back, I have seen numerous threads and topics authored by you regarding the same subject..Paramount's gonna sue ya! Nya, nya, nya!! You have already made your opinion on the New Voyages quite clear but you insist on endlessly repeating this issue ad nauseam. I have downloaded and thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of New Voyages and anxiously await the release of the second episode in July. Now please CJLP, cut us all some slack and stop beating a dead horse!!!

  10. I just downloaded all 5 acts from one of the mirror sites (mirroruniverse.net). A word of warning to those of you still using dial-up...even though the epi is split up in to 5 parts (teaser plus acts 1-4) the files are fairly large, so expect a few hours of downloading. Luckily, I have a cable modem so I downloaded all 5 acts in less than 5 minutes. IT WAS AWESOME!! The special effects rock..especially in the beginning where the Enterprise is shown leaving space dock. The story and acting are great, even though it took me a while to get past the Elvis hair on the actor playing Kirk and the actor playing Scotty lost his Scottish accent more often than Doohan did. I, too, plan on ordering the DVD so I can watch the episode on my 36" Sony Diamondvision instead of a 17" computer monitor. The only complaint I have is that I have to wait until July for the second episode! Long live New Voyages!! I strongly recommend that everybody download episode 1. You won't be disappointed!!!

  11. I, like Riann, escaped from st.com long ago because of the childish and idiotic behavior of many posters over there. The message boards were bad enough, so I didn't even BOTHER trying to get in to the chat rooms. I did glimpse at the st.com chat room once, however, and the entire screen was covered by one person typing the word "nude" over and over in bold capital letters. Cute. I'm glad to see many others migrating here from st.com and I hope you all decide to make our little community your permanent home. I've even gone so far as to set stfans.net as my home page!

  12. Do you need anything found? If you do, post a message here and i will find it, it can be anything, i promise u i will find it.

I need to find an elderly, single, male millionaire in poor health with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. He must be willing to marry a skinny Polish girl from Milwaukee and have no heirs.

  13. Is now a bad time to mention that today its in the low 80's and I've been outside in shorts a t-shirt most of this morning? It is? Ok then I won't tell you.

Klingonmike...where do you live and do you have a room you'd like to rent out to a fellow Trekkie? Right now I'm looking out my window at a blizzard!!!

Sure MrsKirk, come on down! I live in Fort Myers beach, Florida which is in southwestern Florida. The waters warm and the beaches are pretty. My latest hobby now is snorkling, going underwater and collecting seashells and sand dollars.

Be careful what you wish for Klingonmike...it just might happen once my back gets healed up. Today we had 4" of snow and I had to call my dad (he lives in the same apartment complex that I do) to clear the snow off of my car so I could hobble to it and drive to the doctor's office. Renting a room from a trekkie who likes to smoke weed and lives where it's warm sounds like a dream come true for me!!!

  14. I just saw another news story today stating that the woman who supposedly "lost" the winning ticket has admitted she lied. It seems the police checked her criminal record and she has a long history of cons and frauds, including passing forged checks. Guess no lawsuit will be forthcoming after all!

  15. I''ve been around, but having a bit of bad luck lately. I have a condition known as scholiosis (sp?) or curvature of the spine. Over the holidays, I twisted or bent wrong and now am suffering from lots of lower back pain, and my sciatic nerve is involved as well (shooting pain and numbness in my right leg). I've been running to doctors and eating painkillers, muscle relaxers, and steroids...which kind of puts a damper on my job hunt!! I'm scheduled to see another doctor on Jan 12th to have an MRI scheduled to see if I need surgery on my back or not. I'll keep you all posted as long as the Vicodin doesn't keep me too stoned to make any sense!

  16. Wow! That sucks bossman!! Hope you get everything back in order soon...but I have a hunch you will with your computer skills. My computer has been acting up lately too. Something is up with the driver in my NIC card and I just had to reinstall it to get online tonight. Hope it doesn't get any worse. Oh, and by the way, while you're busy, I'll keep my eyes open for any more coup attempts.... :assimilated:

  17. Judging from these past few weeks, I think the Packers have re-earned their nickname-"The Heart Attack Pack". Now, please don't take that comment wrong, this has NOTHING to do with the tragic death of Irv Favre. The Packers earned that nickname years ago when most of their important games went right down to the wire and kept Packer fans (like me) sitting on the edge of their seats biting their nails until the game was won by the Pack at the last possible second..kind of like Al Harris' interception! GO PACK!!!

  18. I agree with Data, I think they wanted Pike and Vanna (was that her name?) to fall in love. Their database on humanity was somewhat limited but I believe they wanted the environment to be completely natural so Pike would want to stay.

You're thinking of The Cloud Minders VBG, the girl in The Cage was called, and I'm not sure of the spelling but it was pronounced, Veena.

The female android Kirk fell in love with in "The Cloud Minders" was Rayna.

  19. I voted for "Generations" because there was so much promise for that movie and it just did not deliver. The movie was touted as the "old school" meeting "the next generation." I had high hopes. I thought maybe both CREWS would meet via a time warp or something, and the TOS and TNG crews would join forces to save the universe once again. What did I get? My beloved James T. Kirk getting killed in a fist fight!!! What a let down!!

  20. Was it my imagination or did Spock smile during the chess game?

Yep, he did smile during the chess game. I'm sure you noticed the look of the character was quite different as well...the eyebrows were much more pronounced than in later episodes. He blamed his show of emotion on the fact that "one of his ancestors had mated with a Terran." The characters were still being developed during these early shows, and the unemotional, reigned in Spock came about during "The Corbomite Maneuver," where he utters his now famous catch phrase, "fascinating" for the first time. We also learn which ancestor married the human in "Journey to Babel" which turned out, of course, to be Spock's own father, Ambassador Sarek.
