  1. Another female Trek fan here! You probably figured that out just from the username.

I think the reason alot of people got the mistaken impression that Star Trek is a "guy show" is from the costumes William Ware Theiss designed for the females on TOS. Skimpy, skimpy, skimpy.

  2. Alterego, you must have Time Warner Cable. How do I know? I work there!! I agree that the VOD is terrific! Only problem is, I haven't found ANY Star Trek yet-even on the Premium on Demand or the Movies on Demand!!

Time Warner has another new feature coming soon. We will be offering new cable boxes with a digital video recorder built in! (A digital video recorder is what a TiVo is). That way, you will never miss an episode of any Star Trek series or movie because you can set your cable box to record it! Pretty cool, hey?

  3. You are quite right, Tank. Leonard Nimoy is probably the only original cast member that has anything to do with William Shatner.

I am a voracious reader and have read the autobiographies of Nichelle Nichols and George Takei. I have also read a few "behind the scenes of Star Trek" books. The "minor" cast members (Walter Koenig, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, and James Doohan) liked Mr Shatner well enough at first, but then he began demanding more money and screen time. He started playing the "I am the star" game and suddenly their lines were being deleted to give Mr Shatner more screen time. His demands for more money but a huge strain on an already tight filming budget. His demands and his ego made the other cast members feel like second class citizens. As far as DeForrest Kelley's feelings one way or the other, he never made them public, but that's the kind of man he was.

  4. I just watched a rerun of the TVLand awards where Star Trek was awarded an award for the series that had the most impact on pop culture. The award was accepted by William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan, and Nichelle Nichols.

I was frightened by how old and frail Mr Doohan looked. He could barely talk and had to be helped to the stage by his young wife. I'm afraid we're going to lose another of the original crew of the Enterprise in the near future. Ms Nichols is still the epitome of grace and beauty. I didn't like Mr Shatner's acceptance speech. He referred to the cast members not present only in passing..something along the lines of "those who are not here." Mr Nimoy, as always, picked up the ball Mr Shatner had dropped. He mentioned Walter Koenig and George Takei by name, and dedicated the award to DeForrest Kelley.

Did anyone else see this award show? If so, what were your impressions of the cast members?

  5. Wow!  Great site!  I have a question for you.  I've been trying to find an animated 3D Star Trek screen saver.  Something along the lines of the Enterprise zipping back and forth across my monitor.  Any suggestions or sites?

I'll look for somethig like that. It would be pretty cool. I may even try to make something like that.

If you find it or make it..SEND IT TO ME!!!

  6. VaBeachGuy deserves alot of compliments and applause, IMHO.

In addition to creating this great website, he doesn't mind showing newbies like me the ropes. I've sent him a few PM's with lots of quesions like "What does this mean?" and "How do I use that?" He always responds to me within an hour with an explanation that even a computer illiterate like me can understand.

But what really got me was this: In one of my PM's to him I mentioned that I liked the pic of the Enterprise he uses in his signature. I asked him where he got it and if he would mind if I used it in my own signature. He not only sent me the link to the pic, but, knowing I'm a newbie and not very good at using the features on the board yet, he created my signature FOR me based on my telling him what I wanted it to look like. The fact that he took the time to do that for me was really sweet. VaBeachGuy has a new fan, and, thanks to him, I will be hanging around this forum for as long as you all will have me.Live long and prosper,

  7. I thought the destruction of the Enterprise 1701 packed much more of an emotional punch than the way Data's death was portrayed. The destruction of the 1701 underscored the cost James T Kirk was willing to pay to save his friend Spock-he had risked his career, lost his only son, and now destroyed his beloved Enterprise.

The way Data's death and the crew's reation to it were portrayed in "Nemesis" I felt was sorely lacking. Data says goodbye, saves Picard's life, and the rest of the crew takes about 30 seconds to mourn. What was THAT???

    Just my humble opinion folks!

  8. IMHO,  the most irritating Star Trek character ever was Neelix.  He had no business being on any starship.  I know he supposedly "knew his way around" the Delta quadrant because of his former occupation, but he was never any help.  All he did was whine alot and stick his nose where it didn't belong.  No wonder Kes dumped him!

I stand corrected! Neelix and Zimmerman, an irritating combination!banghead.gif

Alterego, you may make me turn in my communicator badge after seeing this question but...I have to ask...who is Zimmerman?

  10. My name is Colleen. I'm 43 years old and live in Wisconsin. My favorite ST series is TOS, but you've probably figured that out by my username. I remember watching TOS during it's original run when I was a child. My father used to watch it on NBC then (channel 4 in these parts). Back then, my favorite character was Mr Spock, but as I got older and began watching TOS in reruns, I developed a liking for Captain Kirk.

I have no problem letting people know I'm a trek fan-my desktop wallpaper at work is a hung pic of the original starship Enterprise. But, Star Trek is not the center of my life. I am a single mom and I have an adult son (he's 22). HE'S the center of my life. My other interests include computers, and football. GO PACK!!! (sorry Judi...). I also enjoy going out for a few beers now and then and sharing a few laughs with friends.

So, that's about it! Me in a nutshell...

  12. I just jumped over from StarTrek.com, and I left those boards for the same reasons alot of others have. People with small minds turning the message boards into a haven for filth and drivel. I hope to find alot of fellow trekkies on this board who are capable of having an intelligent conversation and alot of fun. I am a TOS fan, in case you haven't figured it out from my username. You'll be hearing more from me as soon as I figure out how to use and navigate this site.
