  1. Although it isn't mentioned on the referenced page, I do remember reading (in the ST: The Motion Picture captions for one) that Gene Roddenberry had suggested the machine planet that V'ger came from might have been a Borg home planet. Although, this concept was never brought into the Star Trek cannon it would be an interesting coincidence.  But then how was V'ger able to get back to earth so quickly without the Borg knowing...the list could go on. Now that I think of it, that concept would reall be hard to explain.

While it may not be considered "canon", William Shatner did explain that concept in his book, "The Return". The machine planet was indeed partially responsible for the birth of the Borg. The inhabitants of the machine planet built the vehicle for V'Ger so it could complete it's programming-gather all knowledge and return it to the creator. But, as explained in ST:TMP, V'Ger amassed so much knowledge during it's voyage that it developed a consciousness, and a need to evolve. It wanted to "merge" with the creator. Now, here's Shatner's theory. When Decker merged with V'Ger and the Ilia probe, the Borg were born.

  2. I think there are situations where PC has gone too far. Take, for example, my personal situation. I am tall and very thin. Almost every person I meet says something like: "Oh my GOD!!! You're so SKINNY!! Don't you ever EAT???" Now, what if the situation were reversed? What if I were introduced to someone who was overweight and said: "Oh my GOD!! You're so FAT!! Don't you ever stop EATING??" What do you think people would think of me?

  3. I voted cigarettes (I'm a pack a day smoker) but it's really probably a tie between cigs and clothes. After June 2004 I'll probably have to vote stfans.net convention. I've already started saving up and I plan on having tons o' fun, so I'm bringing plenty of ching-a-ling!

  4. I don't plan on going to a nursing home either. If, in the far, far future, I become frail and unable to care for myself, I'll move in with my son. That way, I can pay him back for everything he put me through during his teenage years!!!

  5. Grace Lee Whitney (Janice Rand) and George Takei (Hikaru Sulu) both appeared in an episode of Voyager. It was the episode where Tuvok was having flashbacks to the time he served aboard the starship Excelsior under Captain Sulu.

  6. "Endgame", the final episode of Voyager, left nothing BUT loose ends. Sure, Voyager makes it back to the Alpha Quadrant, but WHAT THEN?? I have seen many threads on many message boards (including this one) regarding this. What happens to the Maquis? How does Seven of Nine adjust to life on Earth? Do Tom Paris and his father bury the hatchet? How does rebel Tom Paris adust to domestic life-being a husband and daddy-especially being married to a half Klingon woman? I know there is a book coming out soon which will answer alot of these questions, but I want to see it on film. Not necessarily in the theatre, either. Maybe a two hour TV movie-"Voyager on Earth"

  7. I don't think a series with Sulu in command shown right after the cancellation of TOS would have worked, and here's why:

The command structure of the Enterprise 1701 was as follows-

    1. James T Kirk

    2. Spock

    3. Montgomery Scott

    4. Hikauru Sulu

So you see, there are two men from the original crew who would have gotten command BEFORE Sulu.

However, I believe that a television series featuring Captain Sulu should have been produced after the release of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. That movie features Sulu in command of the USS Excelsior and a series based on Sulu and his new ship would have been great!!

  8. I didn't like "Fury" either. Kes was an innocent, childlike character who was loving, gentle and wouldn't hurt a fly. As a matter of fact, if she found a wounded fly she would try to comfort it and nurse it back to health!! Then, in "Fury," she is an evil, bitter character who kills B'Elanna Torres! No way!!

  9. Yep, I've been through the old "trekkies are weirdos" thing myself. I work in a call center which requires business casual dress, so I go to work wearing dress pants and a sweater, or blouse, depending on the weather. We work on a computer all day, and the desktop pic on my work computer is a picture of the starship Voyager, which I downloaded from startrek.com. One day, one of my co-workers noticed my desktop and he got a look on his face like he had just sucked on a lemon. "Who did THAT?!?" he asked, while pointing at my monitor. I just smiled and replied, "I did." His only reply was "Oh" while backing away like I was going to whip out a knife and stab him or something. Jerk.

  10. Hmmm...I don't have UPN and I don't Watch Anything On The WB...so this doesn't affect me....and If I did have UPN..it still wouldn't

But...It makes me think about those gosh darn networks doing this...can't they just let people watch ALL Their favorite shows instead of having to choose?

I've got the answer to that dilemma..a digital video recorder!!! It allows me to record up to 2 shows at the same time while watching yet a 3rd. I can then watch ALL of my favorite shows when I want to. The quality of the recorded shows is perfect-I know video quality can be an issue with VCRs-and the best thing of all??? If I record a show I can fast forward through all the commercials!! YAY!!!

  11. Welcome Yuta! I use the method posted by dsbs to change colors and fonts. I find it easiest. And you can also PM our great and powerful webmaster, VaBeachGuy, for help. He doesn't mind lending a helping hand to a newbie, and he'll answer you right away. I had some of the same problems you're having when I first joined and VBG's assistance was invaluable to me!

  12. Sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel thing, but guess what?? I'm living the life of leisure for the next couple of days (on vacation 05/14, 05/15 & 05/16) so we can hang out here together and get paid!!!

    Ooookay okay....I said PAID with a "P"!!!!!

  13. Yes, I like Wesley Crusher more than Neelix.

Agreed!! I never warmed up to Neelix. He always struck me as a nosey old woman-always sticking his nose in where it didn't belong, and making a mess of things.

  14. I don't know if this is on topic-I apologize to everyone if it isn't-but since this thread is about browzers and what they can do, I'm gonna give it a shot.

I am now using IE6, but I'm thinking of downloading Mozilla because of the tabbed browzing and built in pop-up blocking feature, among other things. I'm on an HP Pavilion PC running Windows XP Home. Has anyone else tried Mozilla? If so, do you like it? If not, why not?

    Opinions please!!!

  15. I voted for Spock's death scene. I still cry every time I watch it! Oh, and a bit of trivia for the younger fans. I notice nobody has chosen the Transporter Malfunction scene from TMP. Unless you read the novelization of the movie, you have no idea why Kirk reacts the way he does after the accident. In the book, you know the identity of the other person (besides Commander Sonak) who is killed. It's Admiral Lori Ciani, a woman James T Kirk was deeply in love with, and had been living with for the past year. She had planned to beam aboard the Enterprise to surprise Admiral Kirk and see him off. Kinda puts an entirely different spin on that scene, hey?
