  1. I think VaBeachGuy should drop them a line and let them know about this website. Most people who are looking to contact Trek fans unfortunately go to StarTrek.com first, and they're impressions from the message boards and chat rooms there can't be a good one. If the producers of Trekkies2 want to meet and interact with Trek fans who are capable of agreeing to disagree and can have intelligent conversations about Trek, well, this is the place to be. Waddaya say VaBeachGuy?

  2. I don't remember the first Trek episode I ever saw, but I remember what episode I was watching when I finally "got it" and became a major Trek fan. It was during the early seventies and I was watching a rerun of "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield". It was during the scene between Kirk, Spock, and Frank Gorshin's character (brain cramp, I can't remember the character's name) when it dawned on me. They were talking about racism!!! This show was originally broadcast during the late sixties and Gene Rodenberry got controversial topics past the network censors by disguising it as science fiction. Brilliant!!! I've been proud to be a Trekkie ever since.

  3. Back then, I was still employed at a call center with GE Medical Systems. I had just arrived at work the morning of 09/11 when a friend of mine came running past my desk saying "A plane just crashed in to the World Trade Center!" I thought, like alot of other people, that this was an accident. I pictured a small plane hitting the top of one of the towers. I thought maybe the pilot had a heart attack or something. I hoped not too many people were hurt. I decided to go into the break room, where a TV set was located. It was always tuned to CNN. I walked in to the break room and looked at the TV set just in time to see the second plane hit. "This was no accident!" I said. I hadn't even realized I had spoken out loud. Standing next to me was a very well dressed gentleman, obviously one of the GE executives. He looked at me and said, "The east coast is under attack." Then I was frightened. VERY frightened. All I could think about was my son (I know it sounds selfish, but I wasn't exactly thinking rationally). I had to talk to him. I had to hear his voice. I went outside and called him on my cell phone. He works nights, so I figured I was waking him up. I wasn't. He was watching TV and knew what was going on. He was all of 20 years old at the time, and very angry. He was ready to go "kick some terrorist *buttocks*" as he put it. He didn't realize that his world, our world, would never be the same again. I didn't have the heart to tell him. I felt a little better just being able to talk to him. I got off the phone, finished my cigarette, and went back inside. Rumors abounded. A plane had just been shot down over Pennsylvania. The White House was being evacuated. The price of a gallon of gas would be $8 by the following day. Fill your tank right now!!! Most of my co-workers looked pale and frightened. Some just sat in stunned silence. I went back to my desk, and one of my pod mates had a radio tuned to an all news station. The reporter was describing a scene of horror and chaos. People were jumping from the upper floors of the buildings. I had to walk away. The phones were eerily silent. Then one of my co-workers, a woman named Sue, came up with an idea. She was our warehouse liason. We sold medical supplies and accessories. These people are going to need help. Sue and two or three other women went to work. By 4pm that evening, thanks to them, there were two semi trucks loaded with medical supplies and accessories bound for New York. We received another shock when, two days later, the trucks were sent back. The supplies weren't needed. There weren't as many survivors of the disaster as anticipated.

  4. My favorite Bones line also comes from Star Trek III, just before Bones and Spock undergo the fal-tor-pan, to restore Spock's katra to him. The Vulcan high priestess warns Bones that the danger to him is "as grave as the danger to Spock" and allows McCoy to choose whether to participate or not.

McCoy: "I choose the danger....helluva time to ask!"

  5. The novelization of ST:TMP by Gene Rodenberry delves a little deeper into the Deltan race. The Deltans view sex very casually-kind of a way of saying hello, or in the same way the Human race would view a hand shake. They can't comprehend the taboos the human race attaches to sex. That's why Ilia stated that humans are "a sexually immature species." The Deltans also release pheromones which generate a sexual response in other humanoid species. This can prove very embarrassing for a Human male when encountering a Deltan female, and is why Lt Ilia had to sign an oath of celibacy before joining Starfleet.

  6. TOS: Kirk (no brainer there)

    TNG: Ro Laren

    DS9: Jadzia Dax

VOY: Tie between Seven of Nine and B'Elanna Torres

ENT: Only watched a few eps before I got bored and quit watching

    MOV: Saavik (Kirstie Alley's portrayal)

  7. Do I leave negative feedback because he won't pay? I feel bad since he left me glowing feedback.

I would definitely leave some sort of feedback regarding this person's refusal to pay, and the fact that he/she is refusing to contact you to explain why. Don't think of it as an insult to the person in question, think of it as a favor for anybody who might deal with this person in the future. Maybe the reason this person left you a glowing review is so you would feel too guilty to expose his/her dirty little secret! What do you think?

  8. I believe that DS9 is a spin-off of TNG, and VOY is a spin-off of DS9. My reason is the first episode of each of these series. The first episode of DS9 features the TNG cast, because the Enterprise is docked at DS9 to drop off Miles and Keiko. We then see why Sisko doesn't like Picard-as Locutus, Picard led an attack by the Borg that killed Sisko's wife. The first episode of VOY shows a newly launched Voyager arriving at DS9 before heading off to the badlands to catch the Maquis.

  9. I voted that it was good. I did enjoy the plot line..Kirk getting the Enterprise back, much to the chagrin of Capt Decker, and seeing the crew reunited after all those years. I also liked the way Spock developed during this movie. He enters as a cold, logical Vulcan, and after he mind melds with V'ger he discovers there is more to life than logic alone. I loved that. Some parts of the movie were a tad slow. The scene where Enterprise first enters the cloud surrounding V'ger. WAAAAAY too much time watching a silent crew react to a bunch of blue lights on the view screen. I also agree that the Director's Edition did a great job of tightening the movie up, so it didn't seem as slow.

  10. But apart from Uhura gettin jiggy with McCoy and Sulu and Chekov getting lost in a forest, it was basically the amazing trio (I'm trying to say a bad word but can't)in at each other as they tried to stop the evil mad man.

It was Scotty, not McCoy, that Uhura was trying to hook up with. And I agree, TFF was not one of the better Trek films.

  11. I don't know if you would consider this a sad statement, but when I overheard this comment, I cringed.

It was while I was leaving the theater after seeing The Wrath of Khan. As all of you know, the movie ends with Spock's death and his coffin being shot into space and landing on the Genesis planet. Just before the scene shows Spock's coffin on the planet's surface, they show it orbiting the planet. This woman I overheard must have taken a bathroom break right after that, because as I was leaving the theater, bummed over Spock's death, I heard this woman talking to her companion. "Wow, that was neat how they reincarnated Spock. They turned him into the sun!"

  12. Hey, thanks for asking for our input on this!

I voted no, leave them as they are. I agree with many of the previous posters who point out that Star Trek fans are more than aware of what TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, and ENT stand for. We also know what TMP, TWOK, TSFS, TVH, TFF, TUC, GEN, FC, INS, and NEM mean too!!!

  13. GUESS who I voted for????? Sparkling hazel eyes...sexy smirk...nice body (up until the 5th movie, that is)...even after he put on a couple of pounds I still liked to look at him-more to love!!!! I even like the hair piece! James T Kirk just ooooooozes sexy! Sorry if I got carried away there.....

  14. Enterprise vs Reliant in the Wrath of Khan! Classic Trek!!!

That battle shows why James T Kirk is considered the best ever to command a starship. It shows battles are won with brains and tactics, not just weapons and brute force.

My FAVORITE battle scene of all time occurs earlier in the same movie, when Enterprise encounters Reliant for the first time. Two Federation starships, equally matched in weapons and speed. Enterprise, taken by surprise, is badly damaged and all looks lost. The ensuing battle of wits between Kirk and Khan is classic. And my favorite line in the movie comes while Spock is entering Reliant's prefix code and lowering her shields....

KIRK: It's coming through now Khan.......here it comes......FIRE!!!!!!!!

I can still hear the cheers erupting through the theatre every time I watch that scene.

  15. Since yesterday was April 1st, I decided to see if anybody besides me got in to the spirit of April Fool's day and decided to play a joke on your friends. I did check out startrek.com yesterday and laughed my butt off!!

Here's what I did: I have a joke program that I can send to other people as an attachment to an e-mail. It's an .exe file, and when you open it, it appears as if your hard drive is being erased, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. After about 20 seconds, a window pops up telling your victim that it's a joke and their hard drive is fine. I re-named the file, and sent it off to about 15 of my co-workers who I know are computer savvy and have a sense of humor. All day at work yesterday, my victims were coming up to my desk telling me how that program scared the crap out of them until the final window popped up. I got 'em good, I did.

Anybody else get evil on April Fool's day? I want DETAILS!!!

  16. Like everyone else I liked Pike, and he could have been the Capt in the series had he not had other obligations in 1966.

Actually, VaBeachGuy, Mr Hunter didn't have any other "obligations" in 1966. He was offered the part of Capt Pike in the second pilot, but he turned it down. Why? The woman who was Mrs Hunter the time was a control freak who ran every aspect of Jeffrey Hunter's life and career. He wanted to take the part, but she convinced him that a role on a TV series was "beneath him" and that he should pursue a career in movies. There was an interview with William Shatner that I saw on television a while back where he thanks Jeffrey Hunter's wife for talking him out of taking the role. If it wasn't for her, there would be no Captain Kirk!

  17. I know because I tried that when TOS movies ended.

Everyone all busted up over the possibility of the TNG ending needs to realise they are not the first ones to have Trek they really care for taken away from them

    Amen, Alterego!

I was extremely bummed when the TOS cast stopped making movies. While I do enjoy the other series, TNG and VOY (don't really care for DS9 or ENT), I was disappointed to know I would never see any more adventures of the Enterprise with Captain Kirk in the center seat. I do continue to see all the Star Trek films on opening night, but I only bought the first 6 on DVD. Now, I read novels and fan fiction starring the Original Series crew and let my imagination take me away!

I did realize that, alas, age had caught up with my heroes and I believe the same is happening with the TNG cast.

  18. Starfleet's first and foremost priority is exploration. The reason for the weapons are for defense. The reason there are ranks is to keep a clear chain of command during an emergency. If a Starfleet vessel is attacked, every member of the crew reacts the way they were trained to do, and a clear chain of command makes sure an emergency situation doesn't deteriorate into chaos. That's my theory. What do YOU think?

  19. While I agree that setting times for chat may be a good one, don't you think it may be a little difficult to coordinate? After all, we have people from different states and different countries, and that makes for a lot of different time zones. And many of us have jobs or attend school, so we are online at many different times. I, for one, have an unusual work schedule. I work the evening shift, and my days off are Thursday and Sunday. But, what the heck, it's worth a shot. Let me know when it will happen and I will try to patricipate!

  20. As I said in the PM I sent to VaBeachGuy, great choices!! And thanks for making my suggestion a reality. Now I can tell all my friends that I had a hand (albeit a tiny one) in the creation of the best Star Trek fan site on the net!

    Live long and prosper,
