  1. I can agree that DS9 might be a spin off of TNG as TNG's Best of Both World's led into DS9, but why is VOY as spin off of DS9? There is no direct relationship between the two, except that Voyager visited DS9 in the first ep. Also, I can't see how ENT could be a spin off of TOS only. TOS comes later in the timeline from ENT, as do the other Star Treks. So ENT would really have to be a spin off of Star Trek itself. You couldn't narrow it down to just TOS, because you could still have ENT if TNG was the first Star Trek series. TOS has no direct relationship to it. As you've likely guessed, I feel that every series is just a spin off of Star Trek in general, but DS9 and Voyager because of their proximity in the timeline to TNG could be considered linked to TNG.

  2. Trekzone.. those were funny!

Anywho, for the most part I don't think big star belong in Star Trek. It would make it a bit more obvious that Star Trek is just a show and not a universe. But one star as a villain is fine! Villians should be eccentric (usually) and big actors can usually put that off.

For a spunky low grade security officer, I think Colin Farrel would do good. But only as a small part like Lt. Hawke. Probably best just to leave him out tho.

I think Tom Cruise would make a good villian.

Russell Crowe has always been good at large commanding roles. I think he'd make a good enemy or maybe an admiral?

Oh, I know who'd make a good captain... that guy who played Charles Xavier in X-Men... oh what was his name.

I dislike Vin Diesel, he can't act... but thats why he'd make a good short lived red shirt.

Oh Oh, and Steve Buscemi as some kooky/insane alien cameo! That guy could pull off a funny Star trek alien any day... cause he seems like an alien in real life...

Hmmm, so hard to think of a woman character... maybe thats why most characters are male in Star Trek... Oh I know... Sigorny weaver... ok thats a joke!

You know, after looking at these... I'm thinking... bad idea... except for that Xavier one!

  3. JCLP, you said there are basic rules to time travel. That is true, but Star Trek constantly jumps from one rule set to a contradicting rule set if it serves the purpose of an episode. If you look at the time there were two Picards it was said that Picard was all wierd cause there were 2. How come that doesn't happen in other episodes? This is just one example. There are many others. I can overlook these inconsistancies for a few good episodes, but if they ever make a series about time travel I would be very concerned.

  4. I am the first "no"! I'm surprised that I myself said the "no". To be clear, I DO like the TCW. But I consider that to be a plot, not time travel. It is the actual time travel that bothers me. "Carpenter Street" didn't live up to my expectations for a time travel episode to the past of Earth. This is just a small gripe. What I dislike most is "Shockwave". There were things about the episode that didn't make sense. (and time travel episodes normally make sense to me) It was quite possibly the most dissapointing Enterprise episode, and the worst cliffhanger/season opener of Trek. While, I did the TCW because it creates interesting problems like the Xindi, the actual time travel episodes themselves have been lacking. In previous Trek, they have always been great. If the poll question had been, do you like the TCW I would have said "yes"!

  5. Click for Spoiler:

I liked tonights episode but not as much as others. It advanced the Xindi plot which is important. By itself; however, I thought the episode might be a little lacking.

It had a mission, but it didn't have any emotion. No interesting reaction from Archer, and very little from T'Pol. Her reactions were almost all based upon trivial things such as the smoking habits of 21st century humans. The only exceptions where her comments about the value of human life. The show did critique our habits in a subtle way to make a message: we still need to grow up. Therfore, message wise, the episode was good, even if it's impact wasn't as strong as other episodes, particularly last weeks episode. I suppose the message was more subtle because we have a hard time accepting our PRESENT faults and thus forcing the issue wouldn't be an effective way to make a point.

After last weeks episode, and the few before it, this one might not shine as well as it normally would. It was like any episode, entertaining, but unlike some episodes, it could have been better. I have always liked time travel episodes but unfortunately this episode didn't live up to my expectations for a good time travel episode. Time travel episodes that I liked were the episode where the Doctor got his mobile emitter, or when Sisko had to play the role of Gabriel Bell, or when Kirk and crew when back to save the whales, or the time when Data encountered Guinan on Earth. Interesting to note is that all of these good examples of time travel in Star Trek are 2 parters (except for the movie, but it is just about the same length as a 2 parter)

At any rate, the episode was a good one, but in comparison with other time travel episodes or recent Enterprise it was not up to par. It is worth a solid 6, maybe even a 6.5 but I shall go with 6. Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad I guess. Hope everyone enjoyed it a little more than I.

  6. Ok, both Kims were the original Kim. They were NOT duplicates. A partical can be phased on a quantum level to exist in more than one place. Technically, both Kims should have had the same experiences after their quantum phasing because they are in all regards the same individual... not separate. The fact that one died and the other lived made ZERO sense. It is like that episode where voyager "punches through" an event horizon.... It made ZERO sense.

The theme with Trip and Sim was that they were the same AND different. Having Sim as the cheif engineer would not be the same as having Trip. I would be completely ANGRY if they did that. I would have lost faith in B and B!

Speaking of duplicates, I hated it when B'elanna was split into her klingon half and human half. Since each or made up of different genes they could not have been the original B'elanna. Then the Klingon died (or was it the human one). The Doctor then added her human DNA back to the klingon B'elanna altering this NON B'ELLANA into something LIKE B'ELLANA. As far as I'm concerned, she died in that episode.

I never saw that episode until the series had ended. I was completely annoyed that I had been believing that B'elanna was the original one, when in fact she was not. IMO anyways. It's a matter of philosphy, but lets take this for example.

You have a solution of SALT + WATER. Together they are SALT WATER. You separate the two into SALT + WATER. Now you "kill" the SALT leaving just WATER. Obviously, the SALT WATER does not exist. Neither does the SALT. SALT WATER has died. By adding some protons, neutrons, and electrons in the right manner to the WATER, you create SALT WATER. But this is not the same SALT WATER as before. It is the original WATER with NEW SALT. (ie original human b'elanna with NEW klingon b'elanna)

Now, lets take this thinking further. If Trip was COBALT. Sim would be NEW COBALT (if he was an ordinary human and not one that dies quickly) Clearly NEW COBALT is a separate entitly (a clone) even if the same.

So if NEW COBALT is a clone, so is NEW SALT. That would make B'elanna half original entity, and half CLONE. So what is she? She is not B'elanna. That is all I can say.

That was my daily RANT... I must go to bed now. This now concludes your philosophy lesson.

  7. It would be much more effective to go into the episode "not knowing" Earth would be destroyed, promos put aside.  Watch any episode of the previous Trek shows or any other TV show for that matter.  The intro is allways the beginning of the show, not some "kewl" flash forward to get people hyped.  I prefer quallity over hype. :dude:

It would be better to go into the episode not knowing Earth would be destroyed huh? Well I can honestly say that when Earth was destroyed at the beggining I didn't know about it before hand, so whats the diff? While I think most episodes should follow the plot chronologically, I think in this case it helped the episode. We never thought we'd see Earth destroyed during season 3. Seeing that at the beggining of the episode was such a shocker. This biggest I've ever seen in Star Trek. And because it was destroyed it created the main problem for the rest of the show for Archer, dealing with the fact that it was gone. I'm not trying to bash you opinion, I just think it was better in my opinion.

I must say though, they seem to be showing intros that should chronologically later... (similitude for example)

  8. If i had a problem i would go to see Dr Mccoy and hope he didn't say she's dead Jim   He always has a nice bed side manner, always a gentleman. The Doctor( EMH) is funny i know many real Doctors with a much worse bed side manner than him.  I would see him as long as he didn't sing opera (not my thing).

ALWAYS had a good bedside manner? I've seen him strike stubborn patients!!!

Anywho, The Doctor is the most capable doctor there is. He is a sentient computer with so much medical knowledge its crazy. Don't forget the fact that his design allows him to be more accurate in his work too! Oh no, he is annoying... big woop, I would much rather a little annoyance over misdiagnosis!

  9. I not sure if he does have a big ego. I know he sounds like it and acts like it, but I have this feeling that he just thinks he's being funny. As for the autograph thing, it is really nice for actors to give them out, but should we demand it. It really alot to ask really. Most of us fans couldn't care less about other people. People in general are selfish with our time... why should expect anything less from an actor? I'm not going to rag him for that. Oh, and I think it is us who thinks actors are the gods... why else would we think so much of a stupid signature. I don't go around asking me friends for autographs.... sorry if I've offended anyone who likes autographs... its just that I personally don't really care about em'.

  10. They could make canon novels, so long as the setting is completely removed from any setting that could occur in a tv show. For example, what if a crew was duplicated and ended up in some random alternate universe? You would still have that crew in the mainstream star trek universe and thus anything that happens to the duplicate crew in the other alternate universe would have no effect on anything in televised trek. Futhermore, if they decided to do a tv show on the same ship where the ship gets duplicated and the duplicate goes to some alternate universe, but the writters want to take it in a slightly different direction such as altering a character that they encounter in this alternate universe, they could just say that it is an alternate universe similar to the one found in the book but not the same, and that the ship was actually duplicated to more than one universe: the universe in the tv show and the universe in the book. So yeah, a book could be made canon just by avoiding everything else all together. I'm not saying this is a good idea, just possible.

As I was watching this episode, I found myself having a hard time rating the episode. As the episode began to deal with the implications of cloning I felt that the episode deserved an 8 out of 10. This is because the episode was exploring a very gray issue in a way that Star Trek had never done before. But in time, I started to think that the episode may deserve a lower score. When the nearly adult Trip was showing interest in T'Pol I could see where it was all leading. Because "Twilight" and some other episodes have made me feel Trip and T'Pol are too superficial to be worth exploring, I was thinking that if some romance did happen between Sim and T'Pol I would find it unbelievable. I was concerned that this might result in a score of 6.5 but that could not be further from the truth. As I began to think about it, I realized that Sim is not Trip and that even though Sim had expressed deep feeling towards T'Pol, the same feelings might not apply to the real Trip. After all, it can take just one moment to break or make love. The episode continued on and Sim became his full adult self. Then the tensions arose! They were completely understandable tensions, but I feel that Archer might have been just a little too harsh on Sim. But I could still understand where Archer was coming from. The circumstances were so complex that Archer's insensitiveness to Sim's want to live was forgivable. The tension made me feel that the episode could be perhaps a 7.5 if romance was to still enter into the mix. Low and behold, it did! And I must say, when T'Pol kissed Sim it seemed all too believable. I couldn't quite understand how I was moved so much, but I suppose that when it comes to matters such as those, feelings can be unpredictable. As for Sim having deep feelings for T'Pol, I think that it was believable by all means, because Sim was in essence human and the emotions of humans, as well all know, can by very unpredictable. T'Pol kissing Sim is a different matter however. It is well known that Vulcans don't just go around kissing everyone. I'm not even sure if I've ever seen a Vulcan kiss someone before, but there is something so human about T'Pol. She, like all Vulcans, has a great deal of control over her emotions, but at times I can see some emotion seeping through. I have noticed it since day one. I suppose this is what a passionate Vulcan would be like. I think that Jolene Blalock has brought something very new and refreshing to the Vulcan character type. Maybe this will come to establish the nature of female Vulcans. At any rate, I was deeply moved by her kissing Sim, and I was deeply moved by Sim's bravery. Because I found their kiss to be much more than believable and moving, and because I found Sim's bravery so moving, I just had to bump my 7.5 up to a 10! There is absolutely no way I could not give a 10. In Star Trek, only 2 other times have I been so moved. They were Data's death, and especially Spock's death. Frankly, a one in three moment, of powerful emotion, within the universe of Star Trek should deserve more than 10, but sadly, 10 is the maximum of what I can give. In addition, I would like to make note of the great acting on behalf of John Billingsley and Scott Bakula. I truly believed that these two were having an incredibly hard time with the situation. The same applies to Jolene as well. This episode is sure to become known as one of the "Enterprise greats"

  12. Yeah it is quite sad. I'm not sure why she passed away either. I would like to see some tribute on Enterprise for her, but I really don't think her character should killed off. To me that would just be taking advantage of her death. Anything that happens to an actor or actress in real life shouldn't affect a character unless they are a regular character and their absence need to be explained. I think we should leave her character to the episodes she had and remember the real Waymire with those episodes. Just dedicate a heart warming episode to her! That would be nice in my opinion.

  13. Well in star trek they are called transporters, but the real name is teleporter. It's also more practical!

For example: "I'm going to transport something to somewhere"

Does that mean "I'm going to beam something to somewhere"

or does it mean "I'm going to ship something to somewhere by car" etc.

But I would think a trekkie would say "transporter"

  14. Ensign, I'd love to help, but I have no clue how to use that program. In fact, I was trying to create a database last night. I have a website with trivia and I wanted people to submit their questions and be able to go to the score page and see how the faired against everyone else. I got so frustrated with access that I just made my form send the results to me. I'll just enter the information into the scores page myself. Good luck with access!

  15. WOW... those are all big lol's. JK! They are fabulous!!!! I especially like the second last one with Poseidon between earth and the moon! That would be a good pic for it's maiden voyage in my opinion. Also is that the Poseidon in the 3rd and 5th pictures? I don't know what it is supposed to look like from the back. But whatever ship it is in the 3rd and 5t picture, it love it. The way the nacelles are posistioned kind of reminds me of a Klingon Battle Cruiser like the ones from TOS... but with a saucer and starfleet stylings. SO GOOD!

*EDIT* Oh... I just read the title.... The Akira-class. I know the POSEIDON is based on it, but I can't tell the diff bewteen them yet. I don't really know what an Akira class should originally look like....

  16. Yes, I think there will be a 6th series because it would make money, but it likely it would make more money after a wait.

As for the series being based on the early years of the federation. I used to want to see that. In a way I still do, but having a show based in the past limits how the writters can wrtie the shows. Think about all the criticism ENT has recieved because of this. Something after VOY would be best for the writters.

  17. During High School my grades were all over the place. I had anything from a D to an A*. Now that I'm in college taking the easiest course ever: Police Foundations. I am getting killer marks. Maybe it's cause I've never missed a class in 1 and a half years?
