  1. My fashion is very simple.

    Cold-Jeans, T-shirt, Hoodie

    Warm-shorts, T-shirt

It drives my mom crazy! I'm not sure why though because she is always complaining about how expensive clothes are and my style is really cheap.  Oh well.

    Hi there

That almost sounds like my kind of fashion. Shorts, t-shirts and mostly bare feet in summer; jeans, jumpers (or sweaters) and boots in winter. I'm a girl but I hate wearing skirts and dresses. I hate wearing shoes too - if I could I would never wear shoes at all.

I often wondered about living in the 1800s when women had to wear dresses. If I was alive back then, I would have refused to wear any kind of dress. I would have done anything in my power to find some pants and a shirt to wear. However, corsets worn under dresses, were really great for posture and the figure. I'm just glad I'm a woman living in this day and age

  2. Anybody remember Jake's Clothes from Season 1 of DS9???

I just finished watching season 1 of DS9 amd I've seen about half way through season 2. Jake wore some daggy outfits in those episodes. What was up with Jake wearing really tight lycra?? What about that peach jumper (or sweater) that Wesley wore in season 1 of TNG - that colour seemed to be quite popular among guys back in the 80s.

I just loved Deanna's galactic cheerleader's outfit in the first episode of TNG (I'm being sarcastic) I'm glad she only wore it once, her clothing after that was much better. Some of the crew on TNG wore those funny dresses in season 1, they looked like something out of Hercules. The dress uniform wasn't much better either, it looked like a 'dress' with pants underneath.

Kes's outfits were very interesting and I liked them. They made her look cute and unique. She made a statement with her clothes, I thought because they made her an individual. I found it amusing to see Janeway wearing dresses whenever she wasn't wearing her uniform (which wasn't very often) It surprised me because I didn't think she would be a 'dress' person.

  3. I noticed that almost every species' planet is named after them. Except for humans. An example would be Vulcans=Vulcan, Romulans=Romulus, Ferengi=Ferenginar, Cardassians=Cardassia, etc. I think the writers just got lazy and named the planets after the species.

    Hi there

Maybe the writers did get lazy and just name the planets after their species. It does make it easier to remember which planet different species come from. So I guess it does make sense in that respect.

I was trying to think of aliens that live on planets that have completely different names but I don't think there are any.

Species 8472 don't live on a planet but if they did, I wonder what it would be called..............

  4. Well... I like swearing, I do it a lot myself, so I can handle it when I see it on TV. Even Jean-Luc, believe it or not, uses to swear sometimes ;)

    Here are some examples:

"Damnit, Geordi, I... I know what we have to do!" (All Good Things)

"Not good enough, damnit, not good enough!" (Yesterday's Enterprise)

"Shut off that damn noise!" (Mission Farpoint - at least I think that was the episode)

"That is enough, damnit!" (Don't know which episode, I only have the soundfiles here  B) )

And then, of course, his favorite swearing expression: "Merde!" (French for "Sh..!"  ) - he used that in more than one episode.

But I'd never consider that as inappropriate. Maybe because I swear a lot, too... Hm... Could be the reason   B)  :o

    Mrs. Captain Picard

    Hi there :)

I don't mind swearing either, infact, I actually quite like it so I don't mind when its used on tv. I swear a bit too, although I hardly ever use the 'f' word (unless I'm really, really, really mad). I never considered damn or damnit as swear words, even though they are but they don't sound like swearing to me.

Data said sh- in Generations. Remember when Deanna was at the helm of the Enterprise and she is about to crash the ship into that planet.................and O'Brien said bl**dy hell in a season one episode of DS9. I can't remember the name of the episode but he was on a planet with someone else (not sure who it was) and he had to get rid of some monster that came out at night - or something similar anyway.

There isn't really much swearing in any Trek series. I guess the crew are too busy with other stuff to worry about swearing too much or maybe they do swear when we can't see them ;)

  5. Hi there

I voted for Voyager. I love Captain Janeway and it was the first Star Trek series I watched properly. After watching the entire series of Voyager in seven months, I'm now hooked on Star Trek. I'm now watching TNG from the beginning (I'm up to about episode five of season 1) and Im about half way through season 2 of DS9. DS9 is fantastic and I would vote for that too but I could only vote once. At first, I didn't hold out much hope of even liking DS9 but something clicked and now I love it (I can't get enough of it) and Julian is VERY cute!!!

  6. I would prefer ANY of the above doctors, over the real-life doctors I have had to deal with.  But since I have to choose, it's very difficult between Dr. McCoy, cause he was the first and maybe the best, and Dr. Bashir, cause he's just so darn cute.  Since I'm in a really shallow, superficial mood right now, I'll go with the aesthetically-pleasing Dr. Bashir.

    Hi there

I agree, Julian is darn cute isn't he?? I love his accent too. Even though he was arrogant and he thought he was 'the master of everything' at the beginning, I think I would choose him to treat me (if Beverly wasn't available). He did have a caring side to him and his bedside manner, well I've been to doctors with worse bedside manners than him. On a side note, I just watched the episode when Julian keeps whipping O'Brien's butt in racket ball (I can't remember the name of the episode - I've only just started watching DS9 and I'm about half way through season 2). Julian was wearing a really tight outfit while he was playing racket ball and he looked even cuter than ever!!!

Okay, I've rambled on enough about Julian for one post

  7. Hi there

Hey, this thread is similar to the one I started over in the Voyager message board. I didn't start up a poll though, my thread was asking people if they would let the EMH treat them. I haven't seen much Star Trek apart from Voyager, although I've started watching TNG from the beginning and I'm about half way through season 2 of DS9 (DS9 is fantastic, I didn't think I would grow to love it but now I can't get enough of it!!)

I voted for Dr. Crusher, even though I haven't seen much of TNG but she seems to have the best bedside manner out of the other doctors in the poll (or as far as I know anyway). If I had to choose the 'best looking' doctor, it would definitely be Julian...............mmmmm he is VERY easy on the eye, is all I can say!! I liked the EMH too, he practically knew everything there was to know about medicine. If it was a real emergency, then I would let any of Trek doctor treat me.

  8. I went into a chiropractor the other day and got some x-rays on my body and I found out the the curve in my neck is %^*& up and that it is actually curving slightly backwards.  I saw the x-rays and I believe that they are good x-rays. He says he can help me get my curve normal.

Now comes my problem.  A lot of people I know say that chiropractors have helped them a lot and a lot of people I know say that chiropractors have messed them up really bad.  Now I know that there will always be some bad apples ect.  Also a lot of my friends that had trouble with chiropractors said to see a physical therapist.  So I want to know what I should do to get my neck normal.  (My neck is causing a lot of headaches and making me miserable and I don't want to live this way)

So what should I do.

I have a slight scoliosis and I went to a chiropractor a few times. To be honest, all she did was cause more pain. She was all into finding pressure points and pressing on them as hard as she could. It was almost unbearable. Then she would do a bit of manipulation with my kneck and another one with my legs. I can remember her stretching my legs in weird positions until something in my pelvis cracked - it was horrible, I felt like my legs were going to break while she did that!! She told me all this body manipulation would help straighten my spine a bit but I don't think it did.

I found that doing yoga was much better. Its your choice though because some people I've talked too say chiropractors are better than physiotherapists and the other people say its vice versa.

  9. Glad you found my statement amusing and thought provoking Linda

    Adam

    Hi there Adam

I did find your statement thought provoking. I really admire people that know exactly what to say and they don't have to beat around the bush trying to say it. I have been told that I always get straight to the point when I want to make a statement. Why bother starting off with a lengthy discussion about why you are going to say something, when it can be said in just a few words?? The lengthy discussion can wait until later!!

However, when I'm typing replies on message boards, I like to go into great detail. I could write several essays about particular quotes and storylines in Voyager episodes. Many of the issues raised in certain episodes can be related to real life situations. A great emphasis was also placed on returning to Earth to be reunited with family and friends. I will finish off with this statement:

"Earth is a great place to live but it wouldn't be the same without our family and friends"

    Just something I made up,

    Linda

  10. I would choose the Enterprise you could have days of endless fun trying to persuade Picard to break the prime directive and wooshing off around the universe.Another plus point is it looks much cleaner and brighter i always wanted to take a can of spray polish to DS9.

Well I would love to live on a starship, as long as it wasn't going to get lost anywhere. Or be destroyed by some ferocious aliens.

The Enterprise or Voyager would be great starships to live on, although I would prefer Voyager because its smaller. I would want to visit the holodecks all the time but I don't think Picard or Janeway would allow people to be in there all the time. Maybe I could request to run diagnostics on the holodecks all the time. I would be able to sort of 'forget' to finish running the diagnostic and run a program aswell. This would also be a great opportunity to report 'apparent' malfunctions in the holodeck (when there isn't) because this would allow me to spend even more time in there  I'm sure Janeway would realise, sooner or later and I would lose all my holodeck privelages. On the other hand, The Enterprise is a bigger ship and it would be harder for Picard to find out what I'm up to................. B)

I agree with you, it would be fun trying to persuade Picard to break the prime directive. Whooshing off around the universe appeals to me aswell, as long as the ship didn't get lost anywhere, with no chance of getting out!!

  11. Hi there

This ia an interesting thread and I love it!! I voted for changing into inanimate objects to spy on people. I wouldn't do it to invade someone's privacy, just to see what/who people talk about. I would love to go back to my old workplace and shapeshift into the kettle or microwave in the staffroom. This was the best place to hear gossip and people dissing other staff members. If I heard anyone talking about me, I would re-materialise out of the kettle/microwave, look at them and just walk away without saying a word  The office would have been another great place to spy on people, heaps of 'secretive' discussions were held in there.

The thought of being able to sneak into top secret facilities also really appeals to me. Morphing into a door or door handle would be the best way to see people coming and going and I would be able to see what is happening on both sides of the door B) (not a bathroom door though)

  12. I would have to say Deep Space Nine.I know the Enterprise has a lounge and holodecks, but it would just be so much nicer to relax after work by having a few drinks at Quarks, then a game of darts with Bashir and O'Brien,or a little Dabo.Or,if you have more time and extra credits,a little holosuite action.

It would also be great seeing all the myriad species of the galaxy strolling along the promenade. That, and occasional day trips to Bajor.

Deep Space Nine has holodecks too, although Julian's 007 programs sound a bit too silly for me!! The Enterprise seemed to have easier access to holodecks, or at least we got to see the crew involved in them more than on DS9. I rather liked the astrometrics lab on Voyager, it was like a telescope with a big tv screen, minus the telescope. I loved how Seven could just push a few buttons and within nano seconds, she had an image of the nearest nebula or exploding star on the view screen.

I wish I had my own holodeck, transporter and replicator. Life would be so much easier with those, even if I had to choose one out of the three, I would be happy.

  13. Hi there

I would like to live on a starship, preferably Voyager because it was smaller than the Enterprise. However, I would not like to be stuck on a ship that was lost in the Delta Quadrant or anywhere else where it was almost impossible to get home again. If I knew there was even a small risk that the ship was going to get lost somewhere or be destroyed, or there was a chance that I might die, I would think twice about going on the mission. I guess there is always that risk though so I think I would live on a starship if it wasn't going to be involved in any armed conflict.

Deep Space Nine would be a great place to live too. At least there would be no chance of the station getting lost somewhere. Also, its like a small city and everything that I need would be easily accessible. I could even do some 'trading' with Quark for stuff that wasn't easy to get elsewhere. If I needed to take a holiday, I could travel through the wormhole to where ever I wanted to go. There are pros and cons about living on DS9 and on a starship and there would be risks involved living in either place.

  14. I'd let any trek doctor treat me, they're bound to be better than anyone we've got.

Yes, I agree with your statement. It made me laugh  I guess any trek doctor would probably be better than the ones we have these days, even Dr McCoy. If I had to choose the best looking doctor, I would go for Julian. If I had some really weird condition (like an alien intruder was inside me, or an alien had implanted itself onto my body) or an unknown virus, I would choose the EMH to treat me. He seemed to have a knack for getting to the bottom of things and his medical knowledge was amazing.

I haven't seen much of TOS so I have no idea what Dr McCoy was like with his patients.

  15. I just watched Season 4's SPecial feature disc. I thought it was great to learn that when it came time to name Morn they named him after Norm on Cheers. It was also interesting that they made Morn's head with the ability ti talk when they thought some lines might be written for him but for the entire 7 season not a single word was ever written for Morn. I like it that way. Morn is always there, he's a major fixture yet never talks. They always had a running joke about Morn talking your ear off too lol.

    Hi there

I love how everytime I see Morn on a DS9 episode, he is sitting at the end of the bar, by himself and not saying a word. It makes me laugh that he is supposed to be a real 'chatterbox' and whenever we see him, he is sitting alone. Even Quark doesn't talk to him - does he ever try to do a deal with Morn?? I have only seen season 1 and about eight episodes of season 2. My housemate and I are watching it from the beginning (she is a Trekkie and I've just become one  )

  16. I was thinking about all the great scenes between The Doctor and the other characters on Voyager, when I came up with an idea for a new thread. Here goes:

Would you let The Doctor treat you?? Or would you rather be treated by Julian Bashir, from DS9 or Beverly Crusher, from TNG??

I would prefer to be treated by Beverly Crusher because she always seemed to be sympathetic towards her patients. She also had a good bedside manner. Julian's bedside manner was okay, although he was bit too arrogant and he thought he was the master of 'everything' (especially in the earlier seasons) I can't say much about him from the later seasons because I have only seen up to early season 2 so far. The Doctor had extensive medical knowledge and he was very competent but his bedside manner, or lack thereof was offputting. However, if it was a real emergency and/or I had no other choice, I would let The Doctor or Julian treat me.

    What does everyone else think??

    Linda

  17. Hi there

I liked both Kes and Harry and it would have been good to keep Kes on board. Or at least have her return for several episodes over the seven seasons. I know Ocampans are only meant to live for nine years but then again, Kes did meet another Ocampan that was twenty years old (I can't remember the name of the episode).

I didn't like Fury too much because Kes came back angry. It wasn't like her to be hostile towards the crew, she was happy on Voyager and she made lots of friends. Its sad to think that Kes would probably be dead by now. She touched the lives of so many on Voyager and I'm sure the crew would regret not being able to see her at reunions.

Harry was a great character. He was young and naive at the beginning but he matured as the years went by. I think each Star Trek series has had some young, overenthusiastic Star Fleet graduate at one time or another. There was Wesley on TNG and Julain on DS9. The Doctor was also another character that grew over the years. Kes taught him a great deal about compassion and dealing with people in general. This in turn, led the Doctor to teach Seven many things about humanity and ultimately to 'become more human'.

  18. I'd join your site Sirius!Afterall, every good SW site needs a Sith Lord! That's me...Darth Bananas.

I registered at Star Wars.com a few months ago,and was treated rudely by almost everybody. They've got a problem with newbies or something.People kept telling me "someone already asked that" and "Don't you read the posts before you add something?"...well,NO,not when the threads are 21 pages long!!!!I got so frustrated I just stopped going to those message boards altogether and only use my hyperspace membership to download suff and get spoilers and stuff.

My anger turned to hate.My hate made me powerful! The Dark Side of the Force coursed through my veins and I cut down my enemies!

Sirius,if you only knew the power of the Dark Side!Hahahahahaha.... :(

That's the reason that I don't post over there that much anymore. I understand that new people make mistakes and need to be corrected at times but there is no excuse for the rudenes some of the posters display to the newer posters. Some of them seem to think that hundreds of posts gives them the right ro speak to you any kind of way. I have seen some the the real mods jump on a few offenders cases over it. I don't think Star Wars.com is half as bad as Star Trek.com though. A lot of people over there are just plain sick.

I agree, lots of people are just plain sick over at Startrek.com. I also found that site to be a bit unorganised and the message board seemed to be full of immature people starting threads.

As for Star Wars, I got sick of it a long time ago and I don't like it. That is just my opinion though and I don't mind if others want to discuss it.

I wonder if the 'rude' people on the Star Wars site would actually speak to people like that in real life? Its so much easier to diss someone in cyberspace because we can't see the other person and we don't get a reaction (and we can't see their reaction) I think this is wrong and we should speak to people in cyberspace the same way we speak to people in the real world. Its much better to be polite to everyone, even if they are rude to us, this way you can't go wrong. However, rude people on message boards can just be ignored, that is the beauty of the internet. I also believe that if you are say rude things to someone on the net, just think about it, would you really say those things to someone in real life?? What I'm trying to say is, just remember that people who post on message boards are real people too, even though we can't see them.

    Just adding my two cents,

    Linda

  19. I am thinking very seriously about having my own Star Wars fan site based on startrekfans.net.

I have become tired of starwars.com and various other star wars fan sites as they have all become quite as intollerable for me as startrek.com.

Of course,I haven't a clue as how to go about it...

    I'll keep you posted.

Star Trek is heaps better than Star Wars. No offense but I got sick of Star Wars back when the movies first came out (over 20 years ago) My brother was obssessed with it and my sister and I had to endure the movies countless times. Its amazing though because my brother loved anything to do with space but he never got into Star Trek.....................

  20. How do you get into the chat room?? I would love to join in on a chat sometime. As I live in Australia, it might be kinda hard trying to work out the time differences but I'm sure we could figure something out. Also, does anyone here have AOL IM or MSN messenger?? My screenname for AOL IM in Madame Captain, for anyone that wants to discuss Trek or other stuff.........

  21. Maybe it's becuase they don't want the rented homes, which you don't own, to smell like cigerratte smoke, have pee stains on the floor, smell like dog poo, and so forth?  It's possible ya know.

They don't want a smelly home or stains.Okay,I see your point. Then we shall have to ban all babies and children in general as well as pets.

    Balderdash.

Pets can be kept outside,as I've said already. And smokers can be made to agree to smoke out of doors, also as I've already said. This is simple discrimination, nothing more.

Mark my words,it will get worse. Before long there will be whole lists of things renters can and cannot have or do.Simply because someone is renting your house does not entitle you to lord over them, and dictate their lives for them.

    Banana's click here! :(

    Click for Spoiler:

I'm glad your feeling better!Good to have you back posting!

It's not discrimination. How can one be sure a smoker will smoke inside? Besides, you can tell your kids not to scribble on the walls, you can't tell your dog not to pee on the carpet. Gosh, I'm so tired of people yelling "discrimination!" at the drop of a hat.

I agee with you completely!! My housemate and I feel like our lives are being dictated by our propery manager. The landlord is fantastic, he doesn't really care about the flat being a bit of a mess when he comes to visit (which isn't very often as he lives in another city). By mess, I mean a few clothes on the bathroom floor, a pile of papers on the table and a few dishes in the sink. We keep the place clean and tidy, although I'm the most unorganised person in the world (my housemate has more organisational skills in her little toe) it does appear that we look after the place quite well. However, the property manager and the real estate agency in general are a different story. Its like they can't leave us alone. My housemate told me that out of all the places she has rented, she has never come across a real estate agency like the ones we have now.

    Linda

  22. There is another group of people who are discriminated against by landlords...single mothers.  I know this because I experienced it first hand when my son was little.  One particular story sticks in my mind even though it happened over 20 years ago.  My son was just a baby at the time, less than a year old, and I was looking for an apartment of my own because at the time I was staying with my mom.  I found an ad in the newspaper for a two bedroom flat that was reasonably priced and was nearby to where my friends and family lived.  It was also on a bus line, which was important to me because at the time I didn't have a car.  I called the number in the ad and spoke to a man who told me the apartment was still available and invited me to come take a look.  My sister agreed to drive me and off we went.  I arrived less than 15 minutes after completing the phone call.  I was greeted by the landlord, who saw me standing there with my son in my arms, and immediately asked "Where's your husband?"  I was a little taken aback by the question, but I politely explained that I was an unmarried mother with a job and I would be renting the apartment for my son and myself only.  His response?  "The apartment has been rented!"  I explained that I had spoken to him less than 15 minutes earlier and was told that it was indeed available, but he refused to listen.  He cut me off and ushered me out the door rather rudely.  The apartment was indeed NOT rented at the time, this gentleman simply didn't want to rent to a single mother but wouldn't admit it because he knew that it was against the law to discriminate against me for that reason.  What an (Ignore me, I'm using profanity)!!

If what he did was illegal, why did you not report him? Also, no need for profanity, as there is a whole dictionary worth of discriptive words to describe how you feel.

    Hi there

I don't mind if you use profanity in your post, that was the best way to describe the guy you were talking about and in my own opinion, he did sound like an a$$hole (I didn't use profanity, I just implied it  )

You are right, single mothers are discrimiated against when they are looking for a place to rent. I think even these days, its very difficult for single mums to find suitable places to rent. If I owned a home and I was renting it out, I wouldn't really worry about the habits of the tenants (as long as they didn't do drugs) as long as they paid the rent on time and the kept the place neat and tidy (and they didn't trash the place). Children wouldn't be a problem either, or single parent families. As for smoking, I would prefer non-smokers but if the people were smokers, they would have to agree to smoke outside AT ALL TIMES. I would also allow pets (to be kept outside aswell).

I'm allowed to have one cat in my flat (I rent with my housemte) and I had to pay a pet bond of $100. That was just a once off payment but any damage the cat does to the place, I have to pay for myself. I would love to get another cat but its not allowed. Dogs are not allowed in my flat either. I think the next place I rent isn't going to have much garden (or no garden at all). Im sick of having to maintain a garden that doesn't even belong to me and forking out money to buy fertiliser for the plants. At least I don't have to do any mowing (that is all done by a contract mowing service, free of charge for me) Rent inspections annoy me too. We get them every three months and its a full on inspection. We have to clean EVERYTHING thoroughly, as if we would be moving out of the place. Its not enough to just clean stuff normally, the place has to be absolutely spotless. Even then, the property manager still finds something that isn't cleaned to her liking or some 'extra' weeds that are growing though the pavement.

Overall, I'm just sick of renting but I don't have the finances to buy my own home yet. I guess I'm lucky to be living in a city where rental properties are easy to come by and relatively cheap, while still being in resptable areas.

    Linda

  23. Hi there

I agree with you completely. A friend of mine had a really hard time looking for a place to rent because she owned one cat and two ducks. She smoked aswell but she didn't mention that, as she smokes outside all the time and she didn't think it was worth mentioning. She had to give her ducks and cat to another friend to look after while she was looking for a house to rent, as she had to find somewhere to live while she was looking for something suitable (which was a tiny, one bedroom flat) Eventually, she found a great house and the real estate agent let her have her pets there too.

I also rent a flat with my housemate. We find that we are contanstly being 'spied on' not only by the propery manager at the real estate agent but by other people that live in the complex. The flat we live in is part of a strata title, with about 15 other flats within the same area. There are a group of people that are in charge of the strata, they make all the decisions about maintenance etc. The property manager turns up at our place occassionally, without calling us first and she sends maintenance people over (we have requested them to fix things) without calling us to tell us when they will be coming over. This is rather annoying and frustrating. Its also a bit scary to see strange guys wandering around outside, when we don't know who they are. The other scary detail is once, when a maintenance person came over to fix something inside the unit, they borrowed the key from the property manager (this is allowed, as the real estate agent have a spare set of keys). Anyhoo, this maintenance person accidently, or maybe purposefully took the key away and didn't return it to the property manager. Now we have the added worry that some nutcase has our key and could let himself in at anytime.

Then there are older people living in the complex that seem to have nothing better to do than to 'police' the area. Don't get me wrong, this is great as they can tell when strange people are hanging around the place. However, they can go a bit over the top. For example, just yesterday some people were visiting the lady that lives opposite me. They had parked behind the lady's car so I couldn't get my car into my car port. This didn't really bother me, as all I had to do was ask the people to move their car but some old guy living on the other side of the complex thought this wasn't on. He even rang me at home (and he knew my name, even though I haven't seen him before) although I wasn't home then. When I got home, he told me to 'have a go' at those people for parking there. How ridiculous!! For one thing, that lady is really sick and her family have been dropping in to see if she is okay. And I think its a bit petty to be complaining about this sort of thing. Its as if he has nothing better to do.

Another thing that really ticks us off is the amount of rules the strata have made up about living in the complex. Things like 'no boxes to be kept in carports'. I got a letter from the strata telling me to get rid of the boxes in my carport. Then I noticed the guys next door had EVERYTHING imaginable in their car port - boxes, pieces of wood and an exercise bike, among other things (and a car too) My housemate and I lovingly refer to the strata people as 'The Box Police'. Other stuff too like home owners in the complex needing permission from the strata to do any home improvements. It reminds me of one of those planned communities, where every house has to have the same coloured mailbox (although not as bad........yet)

I could go on and on but I will stop there,

  24. Hi there

I find the internet very useful for finding information about absolutely ANYTHING. Its so much easier than going to the library and trying to hunt down a reference book. The net is really fast also, getting information is almost instantaneous.

Its also very easy to access these days too, as heaps of places have computers to get online................libraries, internet cafes, univerisities even backpacker hostels. I like being able to use the internet to look for jobs aswell. I can apply for jobs online, email my resume and other details to employers and this is which is much easier than posting the stuff by snail mail. As I don't know many other Star Trek fans, its great to be able to come here and reply to posts. I also love being able to correspond with other people all over the world. I chat with several people on AOL IM from the US and one from Canada.

I love the idea of emails. I don't like using the phone most of the time, so sending emails is great for me because the person on the receiving end can read it when they are ready. Whereas I find whenever I call somebody on the phone, they are usually busy and have no time to talk. A good friend of mine is living in London right now and she sends me regular emails. Snail mail letters would take a while to get here and sometimes they get lost in the post. Emails only take minutes to reach another computer (although sometimes they do get lost in cyberspace). I also love AOL IM and MSN messenger. Chatting with someone from the otherside of the world still amazes me. Broadband internet is rather handy too, as it keeps the phone line free. However, I find that I often get on the internet so people can't get hold of me on the phone  I always screen my calls too so broadband would be sort of defeating the purpose in my case :(

  25. Hi there

It looks like there are a few Aussies here. I am also fed up with the amount of crap on tv at the moment. Big Brother and Australian Idol are both an absolute insult to anyone's intelligence and I didn't even bother watching them. What a waste, putting on rubish like that. I would rather have teeth pulled than have to endure that garbage.

As for Enterprise, I don't like that either but if I had to choose, I would gladly watch that instead of the other two shows you mentioned. At least its still Star Trek and I must admit, the opening sequence is great (especially the music).

I'm not really interested in many Australian drama series. Blue Heelers, All Saints, Neighbours and Home & Away are all basically about the same thing - who is sleeping with who, and who got caught sleeping with someone else's wife/husband etc. Most Australian movies are quite good (Muriel's Wedding, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert and Rabbit Proof Fence are good examples) and particular mini series, such as Marking Time on the ABC a few weeks ago. Changi is another great example of good quality Aussie drama. This is why my housemate and I watch so many DVDs and videos instead of stuff on the free to air channels. I think its a waste of money to get FOXTEL when these days, most series (or the ones that we like) we can get on DVD or video anyway.

What is the deal with so many ads on tv these days?? I'm constantly channel surfing to get away from the ads, only to find that every other commercial channel is playing their ads at the same time. I don't usually watch many programs on tv but when I do, the ads are very frustrating. They interrupt the program too much, just when you are getting into the show, the ads come on. Imagine if ads came on at the cinema, during a movie..................you get the picture.

I think Big Brother and Australia Idol make Aussies look like complete idiots. I wouldn't want the rest of the world thinking that Australians behave like everyone on Big Brother (or Neighbours and Home & Away for that matter). I can't imagine how anyone can watch that crap, its all the same stuff repeated, its just turned inside out, back to front and upside down to make it look a bit different. What is the point of focusing on everyone jumping into bed with each other?? Give me Star Trek, X-Files, ER, Northern Exposure, Red Dwarf, Father Ted and The Sopranos anyday (I have most of those on DVD and video).

Okay, I have had my gripe so now I'm happy,
