  1. I GOTTA SAY YOU HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD.  I LOVED SISCO, AND HIS DEEP, MELODIOUS VOICE.  I WONDER IF HE CAN SING.  HAVE YOU EVER SEEN MICHAEL DORN WITHOUT HIS 'WORF FACE' ON?  MMM MMM, GOOD!  NEVER SEE GUYS LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE, DO WE?  BE STILL MY HEART.

I have often wondered if Avery Brooks can sing. I think he would sound like Barry White or maybe even James Brown if he can sing. That would be very interesting to find out if he can actually sing, I might look him up on a search engine and see if I can find some information. I love his voice, it is very unique.

Yes, I have seen Michael Dorn without his 'Worf' face on. He is quite something to look at isn't he?? I envy him for being such a fantastic actor and yet he can do his shopping without being malled by fans. Alexander Siddig is another face that I could look at all day - mmmmmm!!! What about Vedek Barail (sp) he wasn't bad either. Deep Space Nine (and Star Trek in general) has some very attractive people in it - both male and female. Terry Farrell (Jadzia) and even Nana Visitor (Kira) - both of them could light up any room with their smiles. Chase Masterson (Leeta) was quite attractive too. I found her in an episode of ER last night.

  2. i have concluded something from all this reality show crapt

IT makes you appreciatate sitcoms.. more..but overall.. most of the things that are on TV are crapt... except Star Trek.. and other Sci-fi shows.. (of course)  :)

Another thing I have noticed about reality programs is that all the people in them are so artificial. To me, the people on these shows seem so fake and arrogant. Most of them don't care if they humiliate themselves in front of millions of viewers, all they want to do it win the money at the end. Its quite sad to think that some people will do anything for a bit of money. I actually know a girl that wanted to be on Big Brother, she was even ready to go for the audition or interview or whatever to get onto the show. She was another one of those 'fake' people who liked herself a bit too much (and she thought everyone else loved her too). She was quite a nasty person and well known for stabbing people in the back. She never did get on Big Brother in the end.

  3. I have never watched a reality program and I don't ever intend to watch one.

I think Survivor would have to be the worst example of a reality program.

    Madam Captain out!!

If you've never watched then how do you know if it's good, bad or horrible? That's like someone saying Star Trek is a racist, sexist show that only panders to the lowest comon denominator when in fact the person saying that has never seen the show.

There are at least 2 examples of members on this board that thought the same thing, or close to the same thing. I asked them to watch Survivor this season starting with Episode 1 and then base their view on it in an informed way. In both of those cases they changed their minds and really like the show.

In at least one of the cases the person said to me that they are "addicted" to it now and don't know why they weren't watching it all along. Once the episode ends they can't wait for the next week's episode to begin.

So I challenge you too to watch the show, then if you still feel the same way at least you will have an informed opinion and can say "Yes, I watched a full season and I hated it".

I saw the advertisements for Survivor and they were bad enough. I don't want to torture myself by watching a whole episode of Survivor, let alone an entire season. However, I see your point about people forming an opinion of a show when they haven't even seen it and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. On the other hand, I don't think I need to watch an episode of Survivor to know just how bad it is - I can't stand reality programs in general. Also, I don't want to become addicted to something that insults my intelligence. How can you talk about Star Trek and Survivor (or any reality program for that matter) in the same sentence?? What an insult!!! Just my opinion, of course.............

  4. I think reality programes are a waste of time and money  ;)  the sooner they ditch them the better  ;)

Also as for Pop Idol what a load of crap  :) :)

I agree that reality programs are a waste of time and money. Pop Idol was a load of crap, even thought I didn't watch it, I know that it was something that I would never watch. I'm not sure how people can become addicted to these programs - what an insult to a person's intelligence. People that watch reality programs need to get a life!!! Give me Star Trek any day.

  5. Avery Brooks was fantastic as Sisko. I especially loved his hypnotic voice, I could listen to that voice all day. I found his character to be quite indimidating and with his shaved head and beard, he looked rather scary. On the other hand, he was a devoted father to Jake and a great Commander/Captain. I think he held a great deal of respect for the everyone that worked on the station, especially Kira and Dax. I especially liked the way Sisko saw that Nog had the potential to get into the Starfleet Academy. To most people, Nog was just a trouble maker but Sisko knew that if he was given the opportunity, he could do almost anything.

  6. I think its really up to the parents, its a too difficult stituation to call if you're not in it.

I agree with your statement but its still an interesting topic to discuss, particularly because I find conjoined twins to be very fascinating. If you are interested in some 'light reading' there is a really great site about conjoined twins that I often visit and it even has a message board. I like going to the message board because the moderator always posts news stories about the latest conjoined twins and separating surgeries.

  7. Obviously, conjoined twins didn't separate at the crucial stage of  mitosis, at which time they would develope into two distinct daughter cells in the womb.  I't a mistake, an error, which if can be rectified by medical intervention, should be. If at all possible both are viable but in some cases they are not. We have to accept this tragic but neccessay part of it.  Any parent would anguish over this prospect, it's a difficult situation to be in, playing God.

Separation of conjoined twins is far more successful these days than twenty or thirty years ago. Of course, it still depends on how the twins are conjoined and the severity of their conjoinment. Obviously twins joined at the head (craniopagus) pose more challenges than other types, such as twins joined at the buttocks (pygopagus). Then there are those that can't be separated. Thoraocapagus conjoined twins usually share a heart and quite often a liver too. In some cases, they will also share intestines and other organs so its almost impossible to separate these types. There was a case of thoraocapagus twins a few years ago that shared a heart and it was decided that the stronger twin would be sacrified for the weaker one. It was a very contraversial issue and the parents had to get a court order to allow the surgery to take place. The parents were advised not to go ahead with the surgery because there was a 95% chance that the stronger twin would die aswell. The surgery was performed and as expected one twin died (because the heart was given to the other twin). The other twin defied the odds and survived the surgery. The doctors were amazed and they even gave her a 90% chance of going home and living a long, healthy life. Unfortunately, she never left the hospital and died a few months later.

Many separation surgeries are still unsuccessful today, often resulting in the death of one or both twins. There also seems to be more conjoined twins born these days than there were five or ten years ago.

Conjoined twins occur when a single egg is fertilised but that egg doesn't divide properly into two eggs, therefore they are always identical. There are several types of conjoined twins:

Craniopagus: joined at the head (rare form, occurs in only 2% of all conjoined twin cases)

Pygopagus: joined at the back and buttocks (occurring in 20% of all cases)

Thoraopagus: joined at the chest, often sharing a heart (the most common form occurring between 35-40% of all cases)

Ishiopagus: joined at the coccyx (the lowest part of the backbone, occurs in about 6% of all cases)

Omphalopagus: joined from the waist to the lower breastbone (occurs in 34% of all cases)

Dicephalus: One body with two separate heads and necks (extremely rare form, only a few documented cases of this type have occurred)

Dicphalus tetrabrachius dipus:Conjoined twins with two heads, four arms and two legs. This is the rarest form of conjoinment and up until about 1 year ago, there was only one living set in the world (Masha and Dasha of Russia)

  9. Reality television really, really annoys me. To say that it irritates the hell out of me would be an understatement. I have never watched a reality program and I don't ever intend to watch one. There is no purpose to these programs and are they really portraying reality?? Is it just me, or have the number of reality programs increased over the last five years? It seems there is a reality program about almost 'everything' these days.

I think Survivor would have to be the worst example of a reality program. Another one we have here in Australia is Big Brother - what a load of bullsh*t. The newest one to come out here is The Hot House. I have never seen it but it sounds ridiculous, just like the rest of them. People that want to get payed big bucks to embarress themselves on tv are complete idiots

  10. What did you think of One Hour Photo?  It was pretty good.  I give it 8.5/10 stars.

Plot Outline: An employee of a one-hour photo lab becomes obsessed with a young suburban family

I loved One Hour Photo. Robin Williams is such a talented actor, although it was strange to see him in a serious role. I found this movie to be very disturbing but so realistic of how an obsessed psychopath would behave. On the other hand, I sort of felt sorry for that character, as he was so lonely and longing to be loved that he had to make that particular family 'his own family'. The scene when Robin Williams was in his apartment and the camera shows one entire wall covered in photos of the family really showed how his obsession had taken over his life. It sent chills up my spine!

I want to watch this movie again but I need to be in the mood. It is quite full on and as I said before, rather disturbing.

  11. I have a 7 month old and a 3 month old. so the short answer is "Yes, I have to"

You have a seven month old and a three month old?? Can I ask, are they both your own children? They must keep you very busy.

  12. Here in Australia we call diapers 'nappies'. I work in child care and I have to change nappies everyday and as I work in a babies room, they all wear them. Changing nappies has never bothered me and I could do it with my eyes closed. I know people that have never changed nappies before but for me, its just a part of my everyday life (apart from the weekend)

  13. I live in the 'burbs.

    Hi there :)

I live in the suburbs of the city of Perth, in Western Australia. I have lived in Perth for about four years and I have been in the same house for three of those years. Before I lived here, I lived in a small town, about ten hours drive north of Perth. It has two supermarkets, seven or eight churches, five pubs (or bars as they are called in the US), lots of caravan parks (I think Americans call them trailer parks), four hotels and two video shops (with a few other shops too). The population of that town in about 7000.

Its really warm here now, although summer actually ends soon. It never snows here either.

  14. What are your opinions about the separation of conjoined twins?? I have been very interested in this topic for a few years now and I have found that the issues regarding surgical separation of conjoined twins can be quite contraversial. I think twins that are joined should be separated, if there is a reasonable chance of survival for one or both twins. I do not, however, agree with the separation of twins when it means one has to die to let the other one survive.

I find the whole topic very fascinating. What does everyone else think about conjoined twins??

  15. I just finished watching 'Hard Time' from season three, the episode in which Miles believes he has been in prison for twenty years. I have seen this episode once before but after the second time, it was even better.

This episode has lots of symbolic messages and I think it holds different meanings for different people. Miles was adamant that he had spent the last twenty years in that prison cell, when he was only really subjected to those memories for a matter of hours. Everybody on the station tried to imagine what it was like for him, being alone in that cell for so long but of course they had no idea. Miles knew his memories were real and although Julian and the others were trying to help him, they couldn't reach him to give him the help he really needed.

For me, this episode is saying that one person may experience something that may be absolutely impossible for someone else to imagine. For example, somebody who is brought up in an alternative lifestyle may find it difficult to understand how other people can live any other way. Or a person that has lived in an abusive household all their life may find it hard to comprehend that other people don't live that way. It also brings up the issue of mental health. I don't really want to get into that on here, as I don't know enough about this subject to really form an opinion. There are lots of other examples that I could mention but I'm sure others get the idea. My flatmate said this episode represents different things to her. She is a member of this forum so I will let her reply with her own opinions.

What do other people think?? Does this episode hold messages for you??

  16. The total population of DS9 is mentioned in a season 2 episode. I can't remember the name of the episode but I do remember it was about a group of aliens that thought Bajor was their new home planet. These aliens got through the wormhole and at first, the universal translators were having problems deciphering their language patterns. They really liked Kira in the beginning but when she told them they couldn't settle of Bajor, she wasn't too popular. Anyway, Odo told Sisko (or someone else) that DS9 could only hold 7000 people and their was no way three million of the aliens could come aboard. I'm not sure if 7000 people were living on the station at the time though.

  17. Why would you want to cure your Star Trek addiction?? I would say the only way to cure your DS9 addiction would be to watch more DS9!!! I'm addicted now too, especially to DS9 and Voyager. I would rather be addicted to Star Trek than some other things. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  18. None so far. :)

However, I've finally given in and will be buying a DVD player this year. :roflmao:

I bought a DVD player about a year ago. I wasn't going to buy one so soon but one day I just went out a bought one. I only got into Star Trek about a year ago too but I already have quite a bit of Trek on DVD. I'm planning to buy all seven seasons of Voyager (when they come out) and I already have seasons 2 and 5 of DS9 on DVD.

  19. When I read your post, I thought it was something I had written. I read it out to my flatmate and she said "I would say that you wrote that". Everything that you wrote is exactly what I thought about DS9 when I first started watching it. Now I can't get enough of it!! It is such a great series and I have watched the same amount of episodes as you in one sitting too!!!

  20. I watched Resolutions (VOY) today...one of my favorites

First Contact ...movie on the weekend

Resolutions is also one of my favorite Voyager episodes and probably one of my all time favorite Trek episodes too. I have seen that episode so many times but I never get sick of it. I loved the interaction between Janeway and Chakotay.

The Thaw is another favorite episode of mine. It was the first Voyager episode I ever watched and the first episode of Trek that I watched properly.

I think I might watch Resolutions now...........

  21. I'm watching Soldiers of the Empire and earlier I watched Children of Time - both from season 5 of DS9. Last night I watched The Thaw and Tuvix - from Voyager. The night before, I watched Resolutions (also ST:Voyager)

I watch at least one episode of Trek every night.

  22. Off topic but have all of you Gillian Anderson fans seen "A House of Mirth" - she did a terrific job in that movie...be warned it is a kleenex movie.

Yes, I saw The House of Mirth a couple of years ago at the cinema. It took a while for it to be released but as soon as it came out, I went to see it. It was a great movie and I wished I had taken some tissues too. I love Gillian Anderson and she has proven that she can successfully portray different characters apart from Scully (I loved Scully in TXF too). Another great movie is Playing By Heart. GA is also in this movie, along with a heap of other great actors like Sean Connery and some more that I can't think of right now.

Now, getting back to the related topic..............

What do you think about Gillian Anderson playing a starship captain?? I think she would be fantastic. Of course, she would have to be named Captain Dana Scully. I could see her clashing with Admiral Janeway at times but I think she would have great respect for her most of the time.......

Anthony Hopkins would be great as a Cardassian, Jem'Hadar, Vorter (I think I spelt that wrong) or any other dangerous character. He has the perfect voice and he is such a gifted actor - he has that ability to make scary characters so realistic.

  23. I was reading through the thread titles in this section when I came across this one. It relates to me, so I thought I would add a post of my own. I quit my job in September 2003 and it was the best thing I ever did. Nobody at work had any idea that I wanted to leave and even though I was almost certain that I wanted to quit, I did it sooner than I had planned. I had been sick with tonsilitis and the day that I came back to work was the day that I decided to leave. I actually told my boss that I wanted to quit on the same day and handed my notice in the next day. Well it wasn't really that straight forward, there were lots of factors that made me decide I wanted to leave but after that, I felt as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I had about two months off, then I was started getting bored (and my money had nearly run out). I needed to find another job, so I did and I started my new job at the beginning of December 2003. So I left one job in 2003 and gained another one in the same year!! My new job is like working in dreamland, its the best job I have ever had! (Im not sure whats going on with my enter button but its not working right now!) Madam Captain out!!
