  1. Hi there

I live in Australia and it doesn't snow where I live, although it does snow in some parts. I have never even seen snow. Right now, its getting into summer over here, it was around 40 degrees C (over 100 F) here a few weeks ago. Its been cooler since then but it should start getting warmer again soon. Christmas day is always VERY hot here. I couldn't imagine a cold winter, that would be too weird.

Our winter is over June/July/August but it never snows or gets below about 2 or 3 degrees C (not sure what that is in degrees F) and the average temperature at night during winter would be about 8 degrees C.

I love summer. Winter is too cold and the days are too short. Plus I hate getting up early in winter, when its still dark and freezing cold. Driving in the rain isn't fun either.

  2. Hi there

So what other animals can you hunt in the US besides deer?? Here in Australia, deer are farmed, they are not wild like they are in America. Some friends of my parents own a farm with about two hundred deer. My parents get venison from their friends. I ate venison a lot when I lived at home but now that I live away from home, I haven't had it for a while.

Usually its only kangaroos and rabbits that are hunted over here. My Dad occasionally still hunts kangaroos but not as much as he did when I was younger. I can still remember the kangaroos coming within a few metres of the house. There seemed to be more of them back then (over twenty years ago now). My parents have lots of rabbits living around their house. The cat used to catch baby rabbits sometimes and eat them.

This is an interesting thread because I have many hunting stories to share,

  3. I've never hunted,I've only gone fishing a time or two.

But there's a cafe close to campus where they sell buffalo burgers, and all sorts of buffalo dishes. At first I didn't think I woud like it,but its awesome.I'm going to miss it once I head back home.

    Hi there

I love fishing! I think I was about four when I caught my first fish. I come from a family that loves fishing, especially my brother and my Dad. As a child, we were always out in the boat on weekends fishing and sometimes after school aswell. I even used pieces of cheese as bait to catch fish!! Amazingly, it actually worked, well to catch small fish anyway. Bigger fish were easier to catch with other types of bait (like pieces of fish) or lures.

I have never tasted buffalo. What does that taste like?? I have tasted venison (yum!), rabbit, kangaroo and goat. Emu is sold over here too, at some supermarkets but I haven't tried that yet. Oh yeah and I saw ox tongue in the supermarket recently too, it sort of resembled liver - yuck!

  4. well i just finished my hunters saftey course last weekend and got my license deer season opens up on mondy, and ill be out bright and early. anyone here like hunting, or at least enjoy venison?

    Hi there

As a child, I used to go out hunting with Dad. He used to take me out to the back of our property (or 'out the back' as we called it) which was mainly bushland. He mainly hunted for rabbits but sometimes kangaroos. He also thought it was funny to chase emus on the motorbike. The emus would always outrun the motorbike. We never hunted emus though, they were too quick. I have never tasted emu either, although it can be eaten and is sold in some supermarkets over here.

I like venison, I first tried it about ten years ago. It has an unusual flavor but I quite enjoyed it when I first tried it, even though other people told me it had an acquired taste. I found it tasted better and better every time I ate venison. I have had it in all sorts of forms - roasted, in stews, with curry and rice.........My Mum didn't really like the flavor so she tried several recipes that disguised the taste. I have tried rabbit too, my Mum tried cooking some in a casserole once. It was okay but not as good as venison or kangaroo. Kangaroo tail stew is fantastic, especially with potatoes.

Apart from venison, rabbit and kangaroo, the only other 'game' animal I have eaten is goat. It is very similar to lamb, with about half the fat. My Mum often roasted a leg of goat instead of lamb and always told me it was lamb.

  5. There are so many great episodes here. I loved Basics, Flashback, The Q and the Grey, Before and After and Macrocosm. I voted for Macrocosm, this was such a great episode, Janeway marching around the ship with her phaser rifle, blasting the crap out of those macro viruses was fantastic. She really kicked butt in that episode.

The Q and the Grey was another one of my favorites, there were so many good scenes between Q and Janeway in this episode. I enjoyed any episodes with Q in them, he was one of those characters we all 'loved to hate'.

Its so hard to choose just one episode, I wish I could vote for more than one.

  6. Although this quote was probably also said in TNG by the Borg......I'm sure it was stated far more in Voyager.......I loved hearing the Borg say"RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!!"....... <_<

Yes, I agree, I liked hearing the Borg say that too. It also sent a shiver up my spine when the Borg said "You will be assimilated".

I loved Body and Soul when The Doctor took over Seven's body, especially when he said he was in 'complete control' of her body and he had his hands all over her chest.................

I just about killed myself laughing in that episode, it was so funny!

  7. How many minor races can you think of? lets kinda discuss em as well (maybe not here, in seperate posts)

    Acamarians

    Edo

    Binars

    Vulcans (not really "Minor" though)

    ................................................................................

    .................

    Here goes:

    Trills

    Bajorans

    Bolians

    Ocampans

    Talaxians

Srivani (they were on Voyager in Scientific method)

    Kazon

    Vidians

    Sikaris

    Banean

    Betazoid

    Haakonian

    The Botha

    Shape Shifters

    Hazari

    The Krenim Imperion

    The Devore Imperion

    Species 8472

These are mainly from Voyager because I haven't seen much DS9 or TNG yet. I can't think of any other minor races right now.

  8. I was thinking...  Would you prefer "Fury" as is, more guest appearances, no "Kes returns" story at all, or something else?  I myself would have liked to either have more Kes episodes, with her as a guest star of coarse, or make "Fury" a story arc spanning 4 episodes.

    What about you?

I enjoyed "Fury", I just think it should have been a small story arc or 2-part episode.

    Hi there <_<

I didn't really like Fury all that much, Kes being angry with everyone on Voyager wasn't like her at all and the episode didn't make much sense to me. I would have liked Kes to appear again on Voyager but in different circumstances. I enjoyed her character and I found her race to be very interesting.

  9. Yea I checked the book out from my local library and was expecting some great behind the secens stuff but no they only had a tid bit at the end of some of the shows not even all of them I was so glad that I did not buy it.

    Hi there

I went out and bought The Voyager Companion shortly after it came out. I have to disagree with everyone else in this thread and say that its a great reference book to have. I thought there was an adequate amount of behind the scenes stuff included it this book and its good for looking up particular episodes aswell. I'm glad I made the purchase, even though at the time, I had only just started watching Voyager (and Star Trek for that matter)

  10. Maybe he had just finsihed some type of assignment that required him to be altered to look human, and since the Enterprise-B had no medical staff (not until Tuesday, anyway :) ),he hadn't been changed back to his normal Vulcan appearance yet?

    Hi there :)

I was watching Generations about a week ago and I just realised that Tim Russ was on the Enterprise-B. I'm only new to the world of Star Trek so I didn't know he was in Generations, even though I have seen that movie many times before. I like to think that it was Tuvok, he was sort of acting like a Vulcan, without the pointed ears. Perhaps he had been on a previous assignment which meant he had to look human. I'm sure it wasn't unusual for him to go undercover, being a security officer. Afterall, he was posing as a Marquis in Caretaker, to try to capture Chakotay.

Maybe he did have to wait until Tuesday, for the medical team to arrive, before revealing his Vulcan identity.

  11. I only have one Star Trek reference book, as I have only recently become a 'trekkie'. However, I don't even know if I should call myself a trekkie yet, as I have only really seen Voyager (apart from a few TNG episodes and some DS9, along with most of the movies).

I got The Voyager Companion several months ago, probably when it first came out here (I live in Australia). I have found it to be very useful because it lists every single episode from every season of Voyager, aswell as a detailed synopsis of each episode. It also has information about all the main characters and little quotes from the actors too (which are great to read).

  12. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey.

. . . one flew east, one flew west, One flew over the cuckoo's nest.

    Hi there

I have seen the movie 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. It was rather interesting and apparently extremely contraversial for the time it was made (in the 70s sometime I think). It has few famous actors in it but I can't remember who they are right now. I have never read the book but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

  13. I just finished Homecoming and The Farther Shore, the two new Voyager relaunch novels by Christie Golden.  I was surprisingly entertained by the books, since I am not much of a Voyager fan.  I picked up the first book in Borders, sat down and started reading, and before I knew it, I was five chapters into it and liking it a lot, so I decided to buy the pair.  I think people who really liked Voyager will love these books.

    Hi there

I just finished reading Homecoming and The Farther Shore aswell, they were fantastic, I couldn't put them down. I have only been watching Voyager for about eight months but I must say, its got to be my favorite show (apart from The X-Files)

I have read a few books based on Voyager, The Murdered Sun, Death of a Neutron Star, Caretaker, Mosaic, Pathways and of course, the two mentioned at the top of this post. I'm now reading Section 31 - Shadow, which is another Voyager book, mainly about Seven so far but with other stuff going on too. I'm loving it. Mosaic and Pathways are great also, I found them very interesting and I read them even before I had seen the entire series of Voyager. So if you aren't into Voyager that much, you will probably enjoy them.

  14. I currently have 7 books which I am reading...one for each day of the week

    Indiana Jones

    And The

    Temple Of DOOM

    Spider-Man

    The Venom Factor

    Star Wars

    Episode II

    Attack Of The Clones

    Aliens

    Earth Hive

    Star Trek

    Section 31

    Cloak

    Bruce Campbell

    If Chins Could Kill

Confessions Of A B Movie Actor

    Brave New World

    Hi there

I'm reading two books right now:

    1. Star Trek: Voyager - Section 31 - Shadow.

This book is started out with so much suspense and intrigue that I read three chapters without putting it down. I see from your post that you are reading the same book (unless of course, there are other Star Trek novels with the same name). What do you think of it so far??

    2. My Place.

This book is an Australian novel, a true story, set in Perth, Western Australia (which is where I live and the events in this story took place in the suburb next to me, only about three streets away!) It is basically an autobiography, written by an Aboriginal woman, who was always told she was Indian and not Aboriginal. Her grandmother was part of the Stolen Generation, when, back in the 1930s (and up until 1970) half-caste Aboriginal children were taken away from their families and intergrated into 'white' Australian society. I have read it before, about ten years ago.

I have read a few other Star Trek novels, I think the best ones were 'Pathways' and 'Mosaic' along with 'Homecoming' and 'The Farther Shore'

  15. If you haven't seen VOY's series finale, "Endgame", it'd be a good idea to click back now.

"Endgame" - Admiral Janeway travels back in time 26 years to get Voyager home 16 years early.  In doing so, Voyager destroyed one of six transwarp hubs as they made their way home via transwarp conduit.  Meanwhile, Admiral Janeway was assimilated by the Borg Queen, leading to her death (again  ) and the distruction of Unimatrix 01.

Here's the big question.  With the events of "Unimatrix Zero" and "Endgame", do you think the Borg are done for, or do you think they set the stage for a 2nd movie?

I myself think they set the stage for a 2nd movie.  The Borg Queen could return or we could have a new individual who brings order to chaos.  The collective come unite once again, but with entirely new goals, the possibilities are vast!

Anywho, I think "Endgame" set the stage for a possible 2nd Borg movie, featuring the cast of VOY.

    Hi there

I think Voyager did defeat The Borg, although only for a short time. I think The Borg have the technology to create a new queen and new drones. However, I think The Borg have become a bit annoying and we have seen too much of them. Species 8472 were only in a few episodes and I found them to be quite interesting.

I would rather see a different alien in a new movie, honestly, I'm a bit sick of The Borg.

  16. Janeway- "Theres coffee in that nebula."

I like this one from Coda:

Janeway and Chakotay are in the shuttle on their way to a planet and they are talking about talent night.

Janeway: Maybe you could stand with an apple on your head and I could phaser it off.

Chakotay: If you miss, I get to be Captain.

    Janeway laughs :P

    Linda

Oops! I got that one from Coda a bit wrong. Here is the correct version:

Janeway: Maybe I can stand with an apple on my head and you can phaser it off.

Chakotay: If I miss, I get to be Captain.

    Linda

Sung by the Doctor (Tinker, Tenor Doctor, Spy):

    Tuvok, I understand,

    You are a Vulcan man.

    And you have gone without,

    For seven years....about.

    Paris, please find a way

    To load a hypospray.

I will give you the sign,

    Just aim for his behind.

    Hormones are raging,

    synapses blazing,

    It is alllll  so il-log-i-cal.

    Il-log-i-cal!

I love that episode!! I just loved that scene when The Doctor turns into the ECH and all the pips pop up on his collar. That would probably be one of my favorite Doctor episodes, although its so hard to choose just one favorite.

Another great scene in that episode was when The Doctor, Janeway, B'Elanna, Tom, Seven, Neelix and Janeway are having a meeting. Seven and The Doctor are sending little messages to each other on their padds, while Janeway and B'Elanna are also 'interested' in spending some time alone with him. Then Janeway pretends to stunble due to an old Academy injury that just suddenly flares up and she grabs the Doctor's hand and puts it on her behind - so she can show him where the 'injury' is!! I had to rewind that part and watch it again several times, its so funny.

    Linda

Great quote Indy! This fantasy of The Doctor is a great scene! It’s very interesting to know that secretly The Doctor wants to anaesthetise Tuvok. And the way he achieves this is a great feat, in the middle of an opera! The timing couldn’t have been better, impressing the crew, resolving Tuvok’s Pon Far, while singing opera, all at the same time! After Tuvok collapses, none of the crew care about his condition, they’re all too awe struck by The Doctors overwhelming talents! Even the Captain is captivated. This scene is one of my favourites too!

    Hey, I'm a lieutenant now!!

Here are some more great Janeway quotes:

"You can use logic to justify almost anything. That's its power........and its flaw"

    (Prime Factors)

"You can't have it both ways Commander. If you want to get in the mud with the Kazon, you can't start complaining that you might get dirty"

    (Alliances)

I loved this piece of dialogue, between Janeway and Tuvok, in Waking Moments:

Tuvok: The alien simply stared at me as if scrutinising my appearance.

Janeway: That's what happened in my dream. What did you do?

Tuvok: I returned to my quarters.

    Janeway: Did he follow you?

    Tuvok: He did.

    Janeway:And then?

    Tuvok: He watched me.

    Janeway: Doing what?

    Tuvok: Getting dressed.

    Janeway: Getting dressed?

    Tuvok: Yes.

Janeway: I don't suppose I should ask you why you were undressed?"

Tuvok: I would prefer that you didn't.

  17. Tuvok (in State of Flux): “How may I be honest with you today?”

Janeway (in Worst Case Scenario): “You’ve just threatened the wrong woman, Chakotay.”

Janeway (in The Cloud): “Dismissed. That’s a Starfleet expression for get out.”

Neelix quoting the Captain (in Thirty Days): "Tell Mr. Paris this is punishment, not shore leave."

Seven of Nine talking to the Captain: "You would deny us the choice as you deny us now. You have imprisoned us in the name of humanity yet you will not grant us your most cherished human right ... to choose our own fate. You are hypocritical, manipulative. We do not want to be what you are! Return us to the collective!"

Captain Janeway: You lost the capacity to make a rational choice the moment you were assimilated. They took that from you. And until I am convinced you've gotten it back, I'm making the choice for you. You're staying here.

Seven of Nine: Then you are no different from the Borg.

Tuvok: "I am curious. Have the Q always had had an absence of manners, or is it the result of some natural evolutionary process that comes with omnipotence?"

I also love the scenes involving Arachnia, Queen of the Spider People.

    Scientific Method:

Janeway: Your the chief of security Tuvok, don't thirteen department heads report to you every day?

    Tuvok: Yes.

    Janeway: Well straighten them out.

Tuvok: Shall I flog them aswell?

    Drone:

One: Seven of Nine, do you wish to rejoin the Collective?

    Seven: Voyager is my Collective.

Later, One and Seven are in the turbolift:

    One: Will Voyager be destroyed?

Seven: The Borg are powerful but Captain Janeway is a resourceful leader. We will resist.

    One: Resistance is futile.

    Seven: Perhaps.

  18. Captain Janeway talking to Seven, “There's a time and a place for philosophical discussion, this is one of them.”

Captain Janeway: “Who wanted to muck around in the dirt when you could be studying quantum mechanics?”

Seska: “If this had been a Cardassian ship, we would be home now.”

Seven of Nine: “Nevertheless, I am willing to explore my humanity. Take off your clothes.”

B'Elanna Torres: “How the hell do you know when we're having intimate relations?”

Seven of Nine: “There is no one on deck 9 section 12 who does not know when you're having intimate relations.”

    While B’Elanna is in labour:

The Doctor, counselling B'Elanna: “Will you relax?”

B'Elanna Torres: “If you tell me to relax one more time I'm going to rip your holographic head off!”

The Doctor: “I hope you don't intend to kiss your baby with that mouth.”

Seven of Nine: “Fun will now commence!”

Captain Janeway: “Dismissed. That's a Starfleet expression for "get out".

Here are some great quotes from Night:

The senior staff are having a meeting, everyone except Janeway is there:

Harry: Listen, maybe we have got the wrong attitude. Lets think of this as a two year vacation.

Everyone stares at Harry, with skepiticism.

Tom: Wow Harry, you're a real genius. How do you come up with these brilliant idea?"

Harry: You're such an optomistic guy.

Later on in the episode, Chakotay is talking to Janeway in her quarters:

Janeway: I made an error in judgement, Chakotay. It was short sighted and it was selfish and now all of us are paying for my mistake.

    While B’Elanna is in labour:

B'Elanna Torres: “If you tell me to relax one more time I'm going to rip your holographic head off!”

Seven of Nine: “Fun will now commence!”

Captain Janeway: “Dismissed. That's a Starfleet expression for "get out".

Seven and The Doctor are on there way to the shuttle bay, to go on an away mission.

Seven: This isn't shore leave. There will be no time for recreational activities.

Later on, they are in the shuttle with Tom and B'Elanna and The Doctor insists on taking some photos of Seven.

The Doctor: And smile, like I know you can!

The Doctor: Rise and shine lieutenant! 0600 hours, early bird gets the gagh!

B'Elanna is about to have a sonic shower when the Doctor appears on the screen in her bathroom:

"I'm a doctor, not a peeping Tom. Besides, its nothing I haven't seen before.

  19. Concerning Flight

"It never fails to impress me....No matter how vast the differences may be between cultures...people always have something that somebody else wants. And trade is born."

    --Janeway to Tuvok

I love these ones from 'Bride of Chaotica!":

Janeway marches into the mess hall and says to Neelix:

    "Coffee, black!

Neelix: Ah, sorry Captain, we lost two more replicators this morning........

Janeway cuts him off and says:

"Listen to me very carefully because I'm only going to say this once. Coffee, black!"

    Neelix: Yes ma'am.

Later on in this episode, Seven says to Harry:

    "Entertainment, another frivolous human endeavour.

Then when Janeway is posing as Queen Arachnia:

    Janeway shoots Chaotica and says:

"I don't know how to tell you this, but the wedding's off!"

Later on she says to Tom:

    "I'm the queen, remember?!"

In Dark Frontier there is a great scene between Naomi Wildman and Captain Janeway:

Janeway speaking to Naomi: “There are three things to remember about being a starship captain, keep your shirt tucked in, go down with the ship and never abandon a member of your crew.”

Tuvok in (Favourite Son), talking about deja vu:

“Perhaps you are experiencing a paradoxical, state dependant, associative phenomenon.”

The scene in Endgame when Admiral Janeway takes the chronodeflector from the Klingons, and they are perusing her:

Admiral Janeway: “What do you want?”

Klingon Commander: “You’ll pay for your deceit…the house of Korath wont rest until you’ve drowned in your own blood.”

Admiral Janeway: “I’d love to stay and chat, but I’m on a tight schedule!"

    Hi there Janeway_IDIC ;)

I like these quotes from 'Latent Image':

The Doctor is taking photos of the entire crew for his medical records and its Naomi's turn.

The Doctor: Try to hold still please.

Naomi: Is it going to hurt?

The Doctor: Of course not, a few photons never hurt anybody.

The Doctor lets Naomi takes some photos of him:

Naomi: Try to hold still please.

The Doctor: Are you making fun of me?

    Naomi: No.

I also like this one from Night:

Seven and Tom are in the holodeck, the Captain Proton program is running. Tom has told Seven that she needs to deactivated the robot:

Seven walks up to the robot, and says:

"I am Borg" and deactivates the robot.

    Then she says to Tom:

"The robot has been neutralised. May I leave now?"

Tom looks at Seven and says:

"Oh come on Seven, give it a chance, the galaxy is at stake.

The Doctor:  "Flesh and blood, photons and force fields, why quibble over details?"  (Or something close to that, can't remember exactly.)   ;)

I liked thses quotes from 'Latent Image':

The Doctor turns up on the bridge while Chakotay, Tuvok and Janeway are having a discussion about some martial arts battle.

Janeway: If this is another housecall, it will have to wait, as you can see I've got a mutiny on my hands.

The Doctor: A mutiny, I suppose thats better than a conspiracy.

Later, Janeway is in her quarters reading a novel when Seven enters.

Seven: I'm having trouble with the nature of individuality.

Janeway: There's a time and a place for philosophical discussion, two o'clock in the morning, in my quarters isn't one of them.

  21. Hi there

I was just wondering what your favorite quotes are from Voyager. They can be from any episode in any season, involving any characters. I will add a few of my own:

Janeway to Q: And please don't call me Madam Captain!

Janeway to Q: Don't you Aunt Kathy me!! (Q2)

Tuvok: Mr Neelix, I prefer not to hear the life history of my breakfast (Flashback)

Janeway: I'm just not the right sort of woman for you Q.

Q's wife: Truer words were never spoken (The Q and the Grey)

The Doctor: My programmers didn't clutter me up with pithy Earth trivia, they programmed me with much more important data (Persistance of Vision)

Janeway: I don't want something better than coffee, I want coffee!

Janeway: Okay Mr Neelix, give me your better than coffee substitute.

    Chakotay: Bridge to Captain.

    Janeway: I'm on my way!!

    Janeway gets to the bridge

Chakotay: Captain, there was no need for you to come to the bridge.

    Janeway: Oh yes there was!

Janeway: My latin may be a bit rusty, but I assure you, when it comes to mathematics and the sciences, my lessons will be quite challenging.

Feel free to add your own....................

  22. Hi there

I voted for Basics but I also liked Scorpion. I loved the scene, in Scorpion, when Janeway is talking to Chakotay about the Borg. She was reading through some past Captain's reports of the Borg and Chakotay told her she was using their inflections, to describe their experiences. Then he tells Janeway that another crew member does a good impersonation of her and she says that must violate some sort of Starfleet protocol.

I also loved The Year of Hell and Dark Frontier.

I don't think I could pick just one favorite two parter as there are so many that are equally as good as each other. I must say that The Year of Hell stands out in my mind and I just loved that scene in Dark Frontier between Naomi and The Captain.

"Asking you to stay, would be asking you to die"

Janeway to her crew in 'The Year of Hell'

  23. Okay, just to make everyone happy, I decided to vote. I voted for The Voyager Conspiracy. I thought that episode was very interesting. Seven had some great theories about why some of the crew were 'really' aboard Voyager.

I also loved the interaction between Naomi and Seven. Naomi was really scared of Seven at first, she thought she was going to assimilate everyone on board. I liked how they became friends and the similar feelings they experienced about eventually returning to Earth (when neither of them had ever been there before).

  24. Hi there

I didn't vote because my favorite Seven episode wasn't listed, which is 'Body and Soul'. This was the episode when The Doctor downloaded his program into Seven, thus taking over her body. I just loved the way Jeri Ryan was able to act out The Doctor's personality and mannerisms so perfectly. I loved the scene when 'Seven' is chatting to that alien and she asks the replicator for some New York cheese cake. She starts eating it, realises how good it tastes, then orders some more for the alien. She gives him her half eaten piece of cheesecake and grabs the new piece that she just replicated for herself!!

I also loved the episode (I can't remember the name off hand) when Seven and The Doctor are singing 'You are my Sunshine'.
