1. Hi, Madam Captain!!  I could be wrong, but I don't think posts count in the games forum.

    Anyway, Odo said it.

    Here's one:

"In my expert opinion, it's sick."

EDIT:  Nope, my post count didn't go up.

    312785

That was Julian in 'The Wire'

Here is another one for you:

Which Trek actor named her son Django??

Ok that one is too easy so here is a harder one for you:

Which Trek actor has a daughter named Sophie?

  2. I have The Voyager Companion and the print version of The Deep Space Nine Companion. I didn't know there was a PC version of the DS9 companion. Anyway, I like both companions, even though I haven't really read through the DS9 one properly yet. I purchased the Voy companion when I first started watching Trek (I started out with Voy, then DS9 and now I'm up to season 4 of TNG). I found it very helpful to read about upcoming episodes that I hadn't seen yet. Now when I want to know which season an episode is in, I can just refer to the companions.

I find the companions useful if I want to find an episode that has an interesting 'side' story. For example, I wanted to watch the episode in which Nog tells Sisko he want to go to the Academy. I did some reading and found that this episode was called 'Heart of Stone'.

  3. It's definately worth the price..I've read thru it a few times..

It sounds like a great book. I will definitely try to acquire a copy in the not too distant future. I love your 'Kira banner' in your posts - Kira is one of my favorite Trek characters. I bet you can't wait to see her at the con in Las Vegas.

  4. Here are a few good books for you:

    Pathways - Voyager novel

    Mosaic - Voyager

    A Stitch in Time - DS9

    Fallen Heroes - DS9

Homecoming and The Farther Shore - Voyager (they follow on from Endgame)

The Lives of Dax - DS9

These are all very good Trek novels. My favorites would have to be The Lives of Dax, Pathways, Mosaic and A Stitch in Time.

  5. *Jeri Ryan now stars in Boston Public and Armin Shimerman also had a guest role in that show. I also spotted Armin in an episode of E.R last year.

*Patrick Stewart was in the movie, Conspiracy Theory and of course both X-Men movies.

*Michael Dorn did a voice over in the animated program 'I am Weasel"

*Denise Crosby had a small role in 2 X-Files episodes (season 8)

*Wil Weaton was a main character in the movie, Toy Soildiers (was this made during TNG?? Not too sure about that)

*Terry Farell starred in the sitcom, Becker for a few years. I also saw her in a movie about a plane that was hijacked - can't remember the name.

*Avery Brooks did the narration for some nature program I was watching about a month ago - I can't remember what it was called!!

*Gates McFadden was in an episode of Party of Five.

*William Shatner did some voice overs on Fututama.

*Kate Mulgrew starred in the play about Katherine Hepburn: Tea at Five.

*Andrew. J Robinson was in an episode of The X-Files (Trevor: season 6)

    * Penny Johnson starred in 24, E.R and an episode of The X-Files (season 8)

*Robert Picardo was in a few episodes of Stargate SG1. He was also in a episode of E.R (season 2 - this may have been before or even during Voyager though so it doesn't really count)

*Whoopi Goldberg was in the Sister Act movies, of course.

*Rosalind Chao was in an episode of Without a Trace, E.R (season 5) and the movie, Freaky Friday.

Wow!! I managed to think of heaps!! I can't think of any others but I'm sure there are more.......

  6. I was reading through the posts in this thread and I had a crazy idea. Why not have a dwarf actor to play a Captain?? I was reading about Josh Ryan Evans during the week - he was on Passions and played the role of Timmy, the living doll. He was also on Ally McBeal, playing a child lawyer who gave Ally a hard time. He was a dwarf but sadly he died in 2002. Can anyone imagine a dwarf Captain? It would definitely make things very interesting. I couldn't imagine Madonna as Captain though, she isn't a very convincing actor at the best of times.

  7. Okay, this has nothing to do with the quiz but I just realised that I have 242 posts and it was the same amount last night. I have posted at least 3 posts since last night so I should have close to 250 posts by now.

  8. I thought I would start a Trek quiz. I will ask a question about Trek and whoever answers it can ask another Trek question. The questions can be about any Trek series or movie, character, actor, alien, planet etc. I will start with a relatively easy questions to get things going:

    Which character said this:

"Your brother Rom is an idiot. He couldn't fix a straw if it was bent" ????

    This is an easy one!!

    Madam Captain out!!

  9. This is a mad idea that came to me during the day. Here are the rules:

I will start a Trek story with a few sentences and the last sentence will be left open for someone else to continue the story. They continue the story with a few more sentences and leave it open for the next person to add onto it, etc, etc, etc. It can be about any Trek series or movie and any Trek character. So here goes:

Captain Kathryn Janeway suddenly found herself sitting behind Sisko's desk, in his office, on Deep Space Nine. To make matters worse, Major Kira, Wil Riker, Chief O'Brien, Neelix, Quark and Kai Winn were sitting on the other side of the desk. If that wasn't bad enough, Janeway realised that she was.........................

Now someone else needs to add some more onto this part of the story. It can be funny or serious, it really doesn't matter.

  10. When I first started watching TNG, I really liked Dr. Crusher and she became one of my favorite Trek characters. Then season 2 came along with Dr. Pulaski. I liked her but I preferred Dr. Crusher. I was very relieved that she came back in season 3. If I had to choose between Beverly Crusher, Julian Bashir or the EMH, I would definitely choose Dr. Crusher.

Hello again. This has nothing to do with the topic but I just realised my avatar states that I'm a ships crew chat mod. This is not true. I was chosen to be a chat mod but it never eventuated into anything, other than my avatar saying that I am a chat mod.

  11. My favorite Dax host is definitely Jadzia. Ezri became a great character too and I thought she was very interesting but we didn't really get to know her properly after only one season. As for the hosts we hardly ever saw, I liked Lela (after reading The Lives of Dax) because she was the kind of person that didn't take any sh!t from anyone. I often wonder if Jadzia got those traits from Lela.

  12. I had plenty of DS9 quotes in my list.

If you have something to say then say it!   - Sisko to Weyoun.

Kiss the girl and get the key. They never taught that in the Obscedion Order. - Garak to Bashir.

That man loves me. I can see it written all over his back. - Quark to Kira.

Yikes! What is that? Is that a bird or a dog?

    Oh that? That's a Yukaku.

What did you do with them? Keep them for pets or something?

No. We use to eat them. - Dax and Kira

    :theforce:

    Next?

The quote between Kira and Jadzia Dax actually goes like this:

Jadzia: Whoa!! What's that? Is that a spider or a dog?

Kira: Pulaku. The Bajoran moons are full of them.

Jadzia: Oh I suppose you used to make then your pets and sing songs about them around the camp fire.

Kira: No, we used to eat them.

    ~The Siege~

Here is another quote from the Siege:

Jadzia: Oh, don't tell me, seat of the pants.

Kira: With your eyes leuitenant, not your pants, just point and fire.

Earlier in this episode, Quark, Julian and O'Brien are hiding on the station and talking to Sisko through the comm system about the replicator rations:

Quark: Am I the only one who doesn't think this is funny?

  13. My boring fact of the day is that cucumbers and watermelon are related and if you plant them too closely to together the watermelon will turn out to be one gaint  cucumber.

So what's your boring fact that is garrantee to make you the life of any party. :dude:

    Hi there :dude:

I have some useless facts to share:

*All fruits have seeds, which means that tomatoes, pumpkin and avocadoes are all fuit.

*Once mango trees are planted, the trees will take about eight years to produce any mangoes.

*Grapes that are picked off a vine will not ripen after they are picked - they only ripen when left on the vine.

*A banana is actually classed as a herb.

*The length between your wrist and your elbow is the same size as your foot.

*The brain is such a complex organ that one part has no idea how another part works.

*Leonard Nimoy and William Shattner are both Jewish.

*Women that suffer from sea sickness or motion sickness are more likely to suffer with morning sickness while pregnant.

That is all I can think of right now,

  14. I thought it enhanced his character greatly. Made it more interesting, and more "human". He wasn't perfect by any means, so when he did something really great we understood why. But when he messed up it showed that even he could screw things up.

    Hi there :dude:

I liked the interaction between O'Brien and Julian in 'Dr Bashir, I Presume' after O'Brien discovered Julian was genetically enhanced. O'Brien said:

"Your not a fraud. I don't care how many enhancements your parents had done. Genetic recoding can't give you ambition or a personality or compassion or any of the things that make a person truly human"

O'Brien saw past his genetically enhanced background and accepted him for his natural human attributes, rather than the 'modified' ones he had been given.

I thought Julian's parents were very selfish, wanting a 'perfect' son when they realised the son they had was less than perfect in their opinion. I strongly disagree with people having procedures performed on them without their consent and this happened to Julian. They decided that he was a failure in the first grade - they didn't even give him a chance to succeed in anything.

So obviously, I didn't agree with the reasons for Julian's genetic enhancements but on the other hand, it made his character more interesting. I liked the way O'Brien still agreed to play darts with him, even though he knew Julian could beat him without even trying.

  15. I just watched this episode again tonight, and it is probably one of the best social commentary episodes in all of trek. Brooks was outstanding as usual in this one, once he took over the role as Gabrial Bell, and I liked the other characters, such as Lee, Webb, and BC.

One thing that always makes me to think after watching an episode like this, is what is going on in our society, and how close we are to what was portrayed here. Living here in San Francisco Bay Area, homelessness is a big problem, and it does seem like we have forgotten how to care. True, there are those who fake homelessness, but there are those homeless people who are just as normal who probably became that way by loosing thier jobs. I was also struck by the whole thing with the "Budget Cuts" that were mentioned in this episode, and it reminded me of California's current budget problem and our federal economy.

On one of the special features, Ira Behr said that during the time they were filming this episode, the LA times was reporting special "Havens" to block off a part of the city from the "normal" public. Will we see the concept of sactuary districts in the very future. 2024 will be in my life time (I'll be 40) and it may not be the same, but it seems like our social problems will get worse before they get better. I don't even know if anyone cares about this problem in our society and will all the lay-offs, it seems like we are heading into the realm of courting people off who can't afford to make a living.

I really do like the final scene between Sisko and Bashir.

"How could things have gotten so Bad"

    Hi there :dude:

Past Tense was a great DS9 two parter. I found it very ironic that Sisko and Julian ended up in the Sanctuary District, where thousands of homeless people were living and Jadzia wound up in the rich part of town. The Santuary Districts were over crowded and the people living there made up the majority of the population but there was also still a handful of 'wealthy' people living in the city. It seemed to me that there were too many homeless people without jobs and the situation was only going to get worse before it got better. I wonder how many people just 'got lost' in the system?? The facility that dealt with the 'ghosts' and other homeless people of varying degrees, reminded me so much of the Centrelink offices here in Australia. Centrelink deals with the unemployed, single parents, disability pensions etc.

I really hope that society doesn't turn into the situation being portrayed in Past Tense but realistically, I think things have to get worse before they get better. We watch DS9 and other Trek series and think "The 24th century will be a great time to be alive, the technology is fantastic and people are accepted, regardless of their gender, religion or race. People are able to live in peace". However, these things didn't happen over night.

  16. Okay I am a huge horror/gothic fan and I was watching I still Know What You did Last Summer and there is this obnoxious I would like to kick his *buttocks* kinda hotel owner and I am listening to his voice.

I sit and think to myself erm I know this voice. And so everytime he pops up I am getting bugged by it. And then I twig who it was..................

JEFFEREY COOMBS only he was playing a guy not too disimilar to shran, which is how I pegged it. I began watching his face. And he did the Shran movements where he is all sarcastic and wheedly.

    Sry Just a random announcements.

So I am gonna make this a thread on where you saw a trek actor in something you least expected!

    Hi there :naughty:

I'm a bit of a fan of Boston Public. I had just started watching it one night when the opening credits came on and then it went to the first scene. The guest actors were being listed and then Armin Shimerman came up as one of the guest actors!! I said to my flatmate "Hey, Quark is in this episode!!" She said "Indeed" Later in the episode, Armin turned up (without his Ferengi makeup) but he still sounded like Quark and it was great to see him as a normal person lol.

  18. Haven't been to WA yet but these are the places I always file away for future reference when I see them on travel shows. Trouble is that there is so much to see and WA is such a huge state.

Snorkelling with the whale sharks at Ningaloo Reef.

    Exmouth

    Geralton

Rottnest Island to see the quokkas.  You can spend the day cycling on the island.

    Margaret River

    Albany

Kauri forests- can't remember where they are.

    stromolmites- Carnarvon?

Maybe the rains will be kind enough and some wildflowers will still be on show.  Let's hope so.

    Western Australia Tourism website

    Hi there

I live in Western Australa and I have been to most of the places on your list. I had to laugh when I saw that you had Geraldton on your list. I went to highschool in Geraldton and I wouldn't recommend it as a holiday destination. However, that is just my opinion and I guess if you have never been there before, it might be different. I haven't been snorkelling on Ningaloo Reef with the whale sharks but I know lots of people who have and they said it was absolutely fantastic.

The stromatolites are actually near Monkey Mia (not Carnarvon). I have been there once before and they were quite fascinating. I am from Carnarvon originally and there are heaps of great places around there to visit too.

The wildflower season has usually ended by October/November, which is when Stardreamer is planning to visit Western Australia. The wildflower season starts in about June/July if there has been enough rain for them to grow. I have seen some spectacular wildflowers in previous years.

  19. Hi Aussies and everyone who visited West Australia!

My hubby and I are planning our this year's vacation. We'll want to visit West Australia in October/november 2004. Of course we'll visit Perth, the Wave Rock, the Pinacles and Monkey Mia.

Are there any other places you would recommand? Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

    Hi there

I live in Western Australia and I have travelled around most of it. I would recommend visiting the following places:

    Perth

    The Ningaloo Reef

    Monkey Mia

The Kimberleys (in the far north of WA)

Kalbarri (about two hours north of Geraldton)

Mt. Augustus (a huge and spectacular mountain)

Wittenoon (there are lots of spectacular gorges there)

Rottnest Island (I have never been there but I have heard its a great place to visit)

The South West of WA is beautiful, especially Margaret River, Yallingup, Walpole, Manjimup, Denmark and Albany.

    You will love Western Australia!

  20. What are your favorite Odo quotes (or those of other characters about Odo)?

Here are some of my all time favorites:

    Odo:"Who the hell are you?"

    (First words to Sisko)

"Stopping to see if I've run away?" *snort* "I couldn't get that lucky."

-- Quark & Odo (The Vortex)

"What kind of fool are you?"

    "My own special variety."

-- Ty Kajada & Odo in (The Passenger)

    "Oh, is that Starfleet policy?"

    "Yes." Lt. Primmin

    "Well, I'm not in Starfleet!"

    -- Odo (Move Along Home)

"Ladies and Gentlemen -- and all androgynous creatures -- your attention please! I'm going to have to ask you all to please refrain from using your imaginations!"

-- Odo (If Wishes Were Horses)

"I don't handle 'delicacy' very well."

    -- Odo in (The Forsaken)

"I don't eat! This is not a real mouth, it is an approximation of one. I don't have an esophagus or a stomach or a digestive system. I am not like you! Every sixteen hours, I turn into a liquid." (pause) [shrugging] "I can swim."

-- Odo & Lwaxana (The Forsaken)

"Let's try again. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, clear your mind of everything in it...if there's anything there."

-- Odo to Rom (Necessary Evil)

"I'd bring those guards back if I were you, I'm not in a very good mood."

-- Odo (The Die Is Cast)

Can you guys remind me of any other good ones? :P  :(

I can't remember which episode this is from but Odo is talking to someone (I think its Kira or Sisko) and he said:

    "I always investigate Quark"

I can't think of any others right now,

    Madam Captain out!!

  21. What was your favorite kind of episode? I loved the Ferengi Episodes. I never get tired of watching them. I also liked Garak episodes.

I also liked the Vic's episodes, I wish they had brought Vics in before the 6th season, it was such a great break from the usual kinds of episodes. Where else could you see Rom singing The Lady Is A Tramp?   :o

I really loved the contraversial episodes, such as Rejoined, Doctor Bashir I Presume and Hard Time. The issues raised in these episodes were very interesting, especially in Rejoined. This has to be one of my favorite DS9 episodes. I also enjoyed the Ferengi episodes and any episodes involving Garak.

  22. I was watching a little known aussie kids show today, called 'Hi-5', well the TV was on in the background while I was on the computer.

...anyway, they were having a space theme day, in one part one of the girls mentioned Starfleet, beaming-up and a replicator. I did a double take when she said starfleet. She had a mixing bowl as a helmet, raincoat as a space suit and a cardboard ship that looked a lot like a shuttle, she was calling 'starfleet' to say she was lost! - its everywhere.

I'm a member of an astronomy club here in Perth (Western Australia) and I go to club meetings with my flatmate. Last year one of the guys was doing a presentation about asteroids. First of all, he explained what asteroids were, their size and how they ran into other planets from time to time. Then he started talking about how some asteroids are shaped like squares. He showed us some pictures of a places where one hit in the US somewhere. Then he said "Some asteroids are shaped like this, unless these impressions were made by Borg cubes". My friend and I looked at each and she said "What did he just say??" We realised that he actually did say 'Borg cubes' and we found out later that he liked Voyager.
