  1. First off, I'm very sorry you were in a car wreck and am glad to here your only injuries required some pain killers till you heal up. Second off, is your car salvagable?

As for the driver, in the USA, the police would contact him. If he "didn't see you" and was not intoxicated or abusing a drug, chances are he's probably got night blindness and shouldn't be driving at night. If it were me, I would get his license plate number, report him to the police, and ask that they investigate why he almost killed you. If he's something legitimate like night blindness or something, I'd let it go, but ask him to "contribute" to paying for the damages to your car, perhaps paying for half since he is responsible. In any event, he sounds like a very dangerous driver if he's just going to plow cars over, and the cops are idiots for letting him go after he almost killed someone.

  2. Another name for Escape pods used is "Lifeboats", which is undoubtably taken from the name used for rafts, row boats, and motor launches used for the same purpose aboard seagoing vessels.

True, but they're in space, not at sea, so I don't think they'd call them lifeboats any more then they'd call a shuttlecraft a boat. I could see them "referred" to as lifeboats unofficially, but I only remember them being called escape pods.

I would assume, and it's fiarly safe to do so, that each Lifeboat is NOT a one man vessel.

Agreed, most escape pods usually hold 3-5 people, one would assume anyway.

if you actually want to count the number of lifeboats on a Galaxy class starship, there are between 150 and 250, which suggests each lifeboat has room for five to eight people.

Hang on, I'll go count... A Galaxy-class starship has 432 escape pods. :roflmao: Now, let's multiply that by 3 - that gives us 1,296. One could conclude that each escape pod holds 3 people. Let's count Voyager's escape pods, multily that by 3, and see if we get a number a little larger than the crew number. Voyager has 42 escape pods. Multiply that by 3, and you get 126. That seems low for an Intrepid-class ship's crew compliment of 150. Let's try multiplying by 4 - we get 168, that sounds much better. Conclussion: Galaxy-class escape pods hold 3-4 people while Intrepid-class escape pods hold 3 people.

this probably isn't a very comfortable fit, but I'd bet a months salary it beats sticking around on the bridge during a warp core breach.

Indeed. Knowing me, I'd be running to the shuttlebay instead of an escape pod. :eekout:

  3. Does the word "refit" mean anything?

    :roflmao:

The Enterprise-E in NEMESIS is the same height as in previous movies, the changes were asthetic along with warp pylons that are farther swept back, and a few extra torpedoe launchers.

There's a scene on the bridge, that you can pause and see clearly, where you can view the ship's MSD which clearly shows 24 decks if you count them. :eekout:

  4. Could you show me some pics???

Go back to the first post to see pictures.

I mean pics of the inside of escape pods. And how large are they exactly. Do they have restrooms???

We've never seen the inside of Starfleet ship escape pod, except for one, which was the Saratoga escape pod from "Emissary, Part I". I'll do a quick search on google... Sorry, I looked, but I couldn't find any pics.

  5. I voted "What You leave Behind", if that is the name of the final episode. I think it ended the series very well, showing the impact of the life of Ben Sisko on that station. Kira was back in the office, but not hostile or bitter. Nog was back in the cargo hold, but not stealing--rather taking inventory as a starfleet member. All story lines were resovled well. Worf was going to Kronos as a Federation Ambassador. On and on. It was a satisfying conclusion, and ended with a hint of melancholy as we left Kira and Jake longing for loved ones separated from them by the wormhole.

Yes, that's about how I felt about the series finale, however, the thing with Jake, Kira, and the wormhole... I never caught that symbolism! :P

  6. Why are people posting on a year old thread? I'm pretty sure the decission was to leave "Ten-Forward" and "Off Topic" seperate forums, which by the way, are not the same thing. "Ten-Forward" is for general Trek topics, where as "Off Topic" is for virtually anything. Why do people think they are the same? :o

  7. I just watched the two previews at the movie website, and after watching the second one, something occured to me. They gave away the movie's entire plot from B4, to Shinzon being a clone, Troi's mind rape, B4 being dangerous, the Kolaris adventure, Picard & B4 using the Scorpion fighter, all the way to the ramming sequence. Could this be part of what hurt the movie?

  8. Everyone wakes up in the middle of the night.  Instead of getting up to tell us about it, turn on some soothing music, like classical, and make sure all the lights are off.  Also, try drinking a glass of milk.  Milk always helps me get back to sleep. :P

Instead of getting up and telling you about it? What kind of thing is that to say? It's like saying, SO WHAT. And I didn't get up and tell you about it. It's the middle of the day right now. I've been awake for 6 hours.

Well, the way you wrote your post, it sounded like you couldn't sleep so decided to post about how you can't sleep.

Frankly, I would never talk about someone's problem in such a callous and insenstive way.

I was not calous and insensitive. You asked for advice and I gave some.

If you don't care to help, just let this thread alone.

I did help, but instead of ponderring you advice, you chose to complain about how I executed my post.

Please don't treat my problem like it's nothing. :o I'm sorry, I'm just a bit irritable right now. Guess after 3 months of this my nerves are kind of frayed. :o

I went a whole year where I couldn't sleep for more than 3 or 4 hours at night, so I know what you're going through. My inability to sleep turned out to be a combination of stress and impropper sleeping conditions.

  9. If UPN were smart, they would do the following:

    Monday - Comedy night.

    Tuesday - Reallity night.

Wednesday - SCI-FI night, ENT and another sci-fi show. Perhaps they could bring back Jake 2.0?

    Thursday - Drama night.

    Friday - Movie night.

If they took their programs seriously, they could have the following:

    Four comedies on Monday nights.

Two reallity shows on Tuesday night, perhaps something serious like Habbitat for Humanity?

They're big SCI-FI night consisting of ENT and another show. Another idea would be to have season 4 at 8 then start with "Broken Bow" at 9. Do like the WB. New ENT episods at 8 while you have "ENT Beginnings" at 9, except without the silly "beginnings" in the opening credits. :P

Then on Thursday nights, we could have two down-to-Earth dramas like the WB's 7th Heaven and Everwood.

Finally, Friday nights would be "movie night", but instead of the crap they show now, they could show Paramount classics or something?

    What are your thoughts?

  10. I think the first 3 did pretty good in following TNG, but nemesis... First off the transfer from the wedding scene to the crew going to romulus was too rushed i felt (and why are romulus and remus in the orbit of the same star all of a sudden, anyone got an idea?).

I didn't think it was very rushed, moving from the wedding to Romulas. Remember, we had the whole Kolaris thing in between. B)

And they didn't give data a "plot hole" they could use at some later point, for say, a book or fan made movie; just because brent spiner isn't going to play data anymore (supposedly), that's no reason to just have him die in the movie (and i find the idea that data transfered his "chakra" to B4 a pathetic one).

In the DVD bonus features, it wasn't even Spinder's idea for Data to die, not initially anyway. Logan and Spinder decided that with the way the movie was building up, either Picard or Data should be killed off in a brilliant sacrifice for the Enterprise and her crew. Ultimately, they went with Data as a final and ultimate act of Human expression - self sacrifice so that others may live. As for Data's "chakra", Data uploaded his memories to B4, nothing more and nothing less. Data died in the Schimitar explossion, he's gone.

But the one thing they DID do right was finally get riker and troi hitched so i guess it wasn't a complete loss. :naughty:

Yes, OMG, I loved the whole wedding scene! :P

  11. Which of these 3 The X Files agent pairs were your favorite? I'm not a fan of the show as I feel there were far too many demonic/freak episodes, but I did watch for the alien arc. I'd say on average, I'd watch 3/4 of the episodes each season.

Anywho, my favorite has to be Mulder & Scully, however, when the 2nd movie comes out, I hope Doggett and Reyes return. They're characters were a breath of fresh air and made Mulder/Scully feel like they've come that much farther that they now have successors in a way.
