I never understood how they could take old shows filmed with old cameras and get more definition anyway, also how can animation be HD???
If it was shot on 35mm print film it can be processed at around 4k resolution. Blu-Ray is a little less than 2k. Even though it's old film it is still higher resolution than broadcast video. Our methods of viewing it in our homes has just improved over the years.
Amimation is based on the same rules of live action. If you draw something small and blow it up the edge definition becomes pixelated. So if you scan you images in at a higher rate you get better edge consistancy.
Special effects practical or cgi are based on the same resolution rules.
Interesting, and welcome to the board. I just wish they had been a little more far sighted when they were producing TNG, DS9 and Voyager and hadn't converted all of the raw film to video before post production.

I don't fully understand it all either but if I recall, the old shows were shot on film and the original film is actually HD in quality. But with DS9 and those other series they were converted to video and made into SD quality so they can't go back to the original without going through full post production.

Mark Kelly commands a crew of six which includes Pilot Greg H. Johnson, Mission Specialists Michael Fincke, Greg Chamitoff, Andrew Feustel and European Space Agency astronaut Roberto Vittori.Endeavour will deliver the Express Logistics Carrier-3, Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-2 (AMS), a high-pressure gas tank and additional spare parts for the Dextre robotic helper on the 36th shuttle mission to the International Space Station.
I had hoped to go to the final Shuttle launch.

If you get up any morning for the next few weeks, you’ll be treated to the sight of all the planets except Saturn arrayed along the ecliptic, the path of the sun through the sky.
For the last two months, almost all the planets have been hiding behind the sun, but this week they all emerge and are arrayed in a grand line above the rising sun. Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter are visible, and you can add Uranus and Neptune to your count if you have binoculars or a small telescope.
I'm going to try to get pictures if the skys are clear enough.

I wish I could go, I'd love to meet Tim Russ!
Yeah, he was one of my favorites from Voyager. I think the Doctor was my favorite but Tuvok would be #2.

Is anyone here close to City of Industry? If so you should try to make it out there (and take a lot of pictures to post).

I still haven't opened any of the glasses, in fact they're not only still in their boxes, they're still in the BK bags lol.

Sounds like it would be a good time.

Like I said before, it's Cease Fire and now the vote is official. Like I said before, I don't know how I voted previously but I deleted my old vote and now have voted for Cease Fire.

I don't really spend on Star Trek "stuff" but I'll include this site in the "stuff" category, so it's over $500 a year.

One thing I'm noticing is, since the change, old topics are resurfacing on the Unreal Portal as if they had a recent update. For example, "Who Mourns For Morn?" is showing up as recently updated even though the last post to that topic was in June 2008.
That happens (and should have been happening before) because polls will bump a topic if a new vote is cast in it. So if a topic from 2008 shows up with no new posts it's because someone voted in the poll.
Of course, not all polls are set to bump it's topic but most of them are.

I've got it! It's Mr. Mott! Here he's shown cutting some extra's hair...I've got it! It's Mr. Mott! Here he's shown cutting some extra's hair...
lol I couldn't resist.

You almost had it! Mot's a good guess - I like bald men. But he's a bit too... blue for my taste. lol And he talks too much.
lol Well, then I'm out of guesses... lol

Wesley Crusher? :P
Let me see, you like Deanna Troi, right?A lot of this reminds me of my ex boyfriend and me about nine years ago. He kept nagging at me to finally watch TNG because it was his favorite show. I refused for weeks because I said I wasn't interested in "people on a starship wearing ridiculous-looking pajamas".
I gave in after weeks and weeks of endless nagging, and well... seems I was interested after all. At least in one particular series and in one particular character.
Well yes. I do. :P (To some extent, anyway. Nowhere near being my favorite, but she's alright. Liked her a lot more after she finally stopped whining and started to wear a uniform like everyone else.)
I know it's incredibly hard to guess who my favorite character is, it's not that I'm actually using my nickname in order to try and hint that I would marry him right away or anything...
This is where I should go change your name to something to do with Wesley lol
He's a bit too young for my taste, actually - I prefer older men. :P
And no, while we're at it, it ain't Worf either. Too aggressive. Riker has too much hair in his face. Data's too unemotional and LaForge is too nerdy. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, who can it be...

Rest In Peace Itchy. You died too young.
Way too young, that's for sure.

For the record, Amy voluntarily watched all of the Star Trek and Star Wars movies that she watched. She emailed me one summer and said "Give me a list of movies to watch and I'll watch them all" (or words to that effect), fully knowing that both Trek and Star Wars movies would be on that list lol.

Yes, I noticed his birthday was today and that reminds me that I want to put the tribute back up for him when I get a chance to work it into the new skin.

DS9 - "The Magnificent Ferengi"

Second...nice try sneaking Galaxy Quest onto your server and labeling it as Survivor. I watched it until I heard the music start and knew immediately that you were messing with me.
I'd never do such a thing!
I knew you'd like Kick-Ass. If I was 12 years old I'd have a mojor crush on Hit-Girl lol
-
Why? You would never like a movie about superheroes... would you?Don't you dare ruin that movie for me!
We need a "HitGirl" smilie...

You probably have to be a big Sci-Fi fan to really enjoy it as much as some of us do and to get a lot of the humor.I was assured that I was free to post here, so please, no hate mail....but I do not understand the fascination with this movie. Sure, there were a few funny scenese, but really didn't find all that entertaining.Sorry!
Personally I love the movie and laugh at it just as much each time I watch it as the last time I watched it. After you've watched it 7 or 8 more times you'll get into it more...
There won't be a 7th or 8th time...
That is what you say now, but you have already stated that VBG is sneaky. We will ask how many times you have watched it in a couple of years.
He doesn't need any encouragement!
All I have to do is splice it into "Kick-Ass" and you won't have any choice but to watch it over and over.

Wow, no STF review of this episode? I'll have to work on this once I finish up some lab work for my Unix class this weekend, my personal thoughts are that this is a pretty dark but great episode.
It has some great wartime, battlefield drama and a pretty intense battle.
I really look at this episode as the first of a two parter that is divided by an unrelated episode. The 2nd part would be "It's Only a Paper Moon". Whenever I watch this episode I follow it right up with that one.
This was an excellent episode and I gave it a 5.
