  1. I was disappointed in the whole final episode. It was an interesting concept for an in-season episode but the final episode of the entire series should have been their own.

I've always meant to take the TNG episode and this one and splice them together as best I could to make it run together as one. I'm sure someone out there has already done it but it'd be an interesting 'episode' to watch like that.

  2. It couldn't have been anywhere close to the bright future he has as as a member of Starfleet. Same could be said for Rom. He ended up with Miles, and the entire crew, discovering that they had in their midst a terrific engineer..not to mention that he eventually became the Grand Nagus, and had the power to effect some positive changes from the very top of the Ferengi society...a real success story, I liked the way the writers moved things along for he and Nog. Jake, being not in Starfleet, didn't have the venue for things that the other charcters did, it appears to me, though his relationship with Ben was something the writers crafted well, and with Joseph. But, I imagine him writing at some point in his career a major nonfiction novel on the Dominion War, given his place at the heart of the conflict. I stopped keeping up with DS9 after the series ended, and I've only read three DS novels, those being the first ones, so I haven't a clue as to how any of these characters have been taken in non-canon form, other than Sisko's return, and the addition of Ro, and some new chars to the station.

Rom becoming Grand Nagus is one of the "Star Trekkie" things which really both me. Gosh it is always the same. No-one ever just goes away and does nothing or gets demoted or anything. They always go on to do something really prestigious. Head up some department on Earth. Write a famous book or something. Become Nagus! Admirals, blah blah.

Well, there's always Quark who didn't go away to do anything. He's just a bar owner.

  3. But why the hell would Shran have gone from being a Captain of his own ship to working under Archer at a lesser post? And what post would he have had anyway? Morale Officer? Everything was taken unless you got rid of someone.
They never said (on the DVD) what his position on the ship was going to be. Remember though, his ship had been destroyed and he said that it would probably be a long time before he ever got another one.

They'd probably have used that and brought him on as an adviser in a role similar to what T'Pol had. With that you'd see the beginnings of the Federation.

  4. I guess I should jump in here lol. Yeah I'm a total Niner now. I'm not changing my name though. My love of Riker hasn't changed. My favs in order now are DS9, VOY, ENT, TNG, TOS.
How'd you like Thomas Riker in the episode "Defiant", the one where he steals the Defiant and is part of the Maquis?

It was alright. Good episode but the whole transporter duplicate idea was pretty silly from the beginning.

I actually tend to skip that episode unless I'm watching the entire series from start to finish. I knew though that once you watched all of the episodes that you'd see the greatness of DS9.

I wish more people would do the same, as with Enterprise. I really wish people had watched it while it was in it's first run. My oldest brother recently watched the whole series and really liked it. I think season 5 of Enterprise was going to be the best of the previous 4 with Shran becoming a member of the crew.

Had that happened I think they would have made it all 7 seasons.

  6. Back in February I decided to build a Windows Home Server using a spare PC I had sitting around (I wound up rebuilding it with higher end parts a month later). I put a 1 Terabyte and a 1.5 Terabyte hard drive into it, hooked it up to my home network and began loading all of my Star Trek onto it.

Eventually I started loading a whole bunch of other stuff on it too but it's great to be able to access the server on my TV (through my PS3) and have any episode playing with the push of a button and not have to worry about switching Discs.

Of course after building the home server and transferring things to it from one end of the house to the other I discovered that my home network was in serious need of an upgrade. Everything was 10/100 as far as the modem, router and switches goes but all of my NIC's were Gigabit.

One thing that will make me remember exactly what I was doing when I ordered all of the hardware to upgrade the network is the Tsunami. It was hitting Japan at the same time that I was ordering everything.

Anyway, if anyone else has a home network I'd recommend thinking about a Home Server. I love it, and with the newest version of Home Server that's due out soon you can stream any of your videos over the internet. With the current version you can only download them.

So if I'm away from home I can log into my home server and watch any of the shows or movies that I have on there. It's really cool. Sort of like having your own Netflix.

  7. I'm not sure if this was ever brought up around here before but a few weeks ago I was searching to see if there were plans to put DS9, TNG or Voyager on Blu Ray and came across an article that explained that a Blu Ray release was probably never going to happen.

The reason being that after they filmed all of the scenes and sent the film off for post production it was all converted to video and then processed for effects and so on. So in order to make HD copies of the shows they'd have to take each episode back into post production, re-edit, re-add all the special effects and the score. They'd basically be starting from scratch with each episode.

Has anyone read about this? I can't seem to find the article again now. I'd love to have HD copies of all of the series but I could understand that the cost of doing so would be too high.

  8. WOOHOO!!! *does happy dance*

We got Netflix about a month ago, so this is great news! If we can watch Star Trek any time we want, and as often as we want, we may never leave the house. :notworthy:

CBS was streaming TOS, Enterprise and TAS from their website for a while for free with commercials like Hulu has. Since the Netflix deal was worked out TOS and Enterprise have been pulled.

I watched a couple of episodes at CBS.COM, I don't think the stream quality was as good as what Netflix offers. Free is free though lol.
