Just saw this rerun again last night. Below Decks gives us the chance to see some junior officers and a civilian crewman who worked in Ten Forward. The fact that the officers were able to interact with the civilian much more as a person than with the junior crew was very interesting. Also the way that Picard tested a junior officer was enlightening. The active speculation of the junior crew as to what was going on during a special ops also seemed typical based on my experience in the USN.Trivia - one of the Ensign actors is currently playing Kevin Buchanan on One Life to Live.
This was a very good episode, I always enjoy watching it. I too saw some of the speculation during my time in the Army. Back when the first Gulf War was about to break out I was one of the few people in my company to have a security clearence so I was one of the only people authorized to enter the S2 and HQ buildings due to all the secret and top secret communications/orders that were going on.
On one hand it was really cool to be able to go in and see what was going on and then have all my friends ask me what's happening only to have me say "It's top secret, if I told you I'd have to kill you..." lol. I never did reveal anything that was secret or top secret, the penalties were too high if I did not to mention losing my clearence.
On the other hand, being one of the few people that had a clearence meant that I was one of the few people that had the ability to pull CQ duty at the Battalion or even Brigade HQ. For those that don't know, CQ duty (Charge of Quarters) is an overnight duty where you have to stay away until the company reports for duty the next morning. Weekday CQ duty would start after you finished yoru normal daily job at about 1600 (4:00 pm) and last till the next morning at about 0800 (8:00 am). No sleep, just staying awake and answering the phones. If you have company level CQ then you have to do security checks on the barracks. Battalion or Brigade level CQ is mostly just answering the phones if they ring. It makes for a VERY long day being awake for more than 24 hours at a time. The good thing about that though was that you had the next 24 hours off.
Since I'm on that subject, I had CQ Duty on the night that the US invaded Panama and again on the night that Iraq invaded Kuwait... after the Iraq invasion I turned to the girl that was pulling the duty with me and said "We're going to war in Kuwait... ". She didn't like me saying that lol.

"sugar"? Not sure I remember about that... Don't I have nice legs too? And yes she's pretty much the only one I like too, I think she was on a show on the Style channel I used to watchYou're banned for giving me a lame "clue" that really wasn't a clue at all. I didn't think it was Corina
I deleted your double posts for you. If I recall correctly Elisabeth was a shoe designer, that's probably why she was on the Style channel.
(I don't ban people so you're not banned)

All of the videos that I made for the site and posted on youTube got hit with copyright issues, they just put advertising on them ald left them be though. I did notice that a lot of the other videos that I uploaded that got copyright hits are blocked from viewing in Germany though so maybe Germany has issues with YouTube in general.
It's all up to the copyright owner though, they can opt to leave the video/music there and just add some advertisments into the video or they can force the video to be taken down. I've had both happen.

It's all a matter of editing anyway, Rupert could have easily been protrayed as a jerk in his previous 2 seasons and Boston Rob could have been everyone's hero in his. The shows are scripted, they're just scripted in their editing as opposed to in their filming. They take the footage and see what they have and write their stories from what they have.
As for Elisabeth, she's everybody's 'girl next door'. I'd rewatch season 2 just to watch her. All of these other "Survivors" seem to need the show to stay popular and in the spotlight, if she were to do the show again though it'd probably hurt her image.

I'm not really sure why they had her on the villain tribe, she wasn't a villain in season 7 (Rupert's first season). That was the season that Johnny Fairplay and Burton thought they had it all wrapped up but Sandra just hung around and hung around until finally they all voted her the winner.

I read a little snippet that they plan on changing how they do the hidden immunities.
-
I don't think they actually rig it, but I do think they probably manipulate things behind the scenes. Like if it's true that no one was allowed to know how Russell played in season 19 so that he'd be a "wild card" in this season, it would give him an unfair advantage in that no one would know anything about him and he would know all about them.Proof of rigging would total kill it for me, I'd never watch another episode again.I do think they need to phase away from the hidden immunity idols though, there's too many of them and they're too easy to find now.

Ok, delete the words "a printout of" from my guess.

Over the past few years I've gone and downloaded each season and stored them on DVD, when I get bored and there's nothing else I feel like watching I'll pop a season in and re-watch it.
In the Outback Jerri had a HUGE crush on Colby, she wanted to hook up with him in the worst way. He wasn't having any part of it though ane eventually got rid of her. His negative comments about her all throughout that season are why Jerri hates his guts now, it's really funny to re-watch season 2 and listen to her talk about her sexual fantasies that involve Colby and know that he can't really stand her. Then to see how she totally turned against him in All Stars and now in this one just makes it even funnier.
Don't forget that in season 11 (Guatemala) they also brought back Stephanie and Bobby John. So you can add that to the list returning cast members.
For me, the thing I find most interesting about Survivor is having total strangers being thrown together like that and added to that the fact that they're having to live outside, rely on each other for food, water, firewood and whatever just makes it very compelling. I don't care about the little competitions really. It's the camp life aspects that I find most interesting.
Once a group of people have done it then that aspect is gone and once they all get to know each other outside of the game, which many of them do then the whole aspect of "strangers depending on strangers" is gone too. Just makes it less compelling.
There's also a lot of question about "rigging" to a degree. I've read that none of the other survivors were allowed to know anything about Russell and how his game played from last season. They weren't allowed to ask any questions or whatever and Russell of course wouldn't talk and give his game away. So it gave him a big advantage.
Of course "rigging" has been whispered about ever since the first season and Rudy. I don't really care though, if it's rigged it's rigged. I'm still entertained by it and don't really look at it any differently than I would a completely scripted show.

I'd also be prepared to go into the game right away, they like to surprise them sometimes and make them go into the game with just what they're wearing. Well, I might be wearing a suit on the outside but under the suit I'd be wearing the clothes that I wanted to play the game in (baithing suit or whatever).LOL - I can totally see you wearing an expensive Armani suit and looking at the other contestants wearing shorts and bathing suits and saying "What? It's on now? Oh crap!"
I think somebody did start a fire with their glasses once. Or maybe that was Lord of the Flies. I could see it happening for Survivor though. It's not like they could take your glasses away from you.
For this thread the luxury items can be serious or they can be goofy. It's not like you're actually playing.
So anyone want to guess what my luxury item would be?
Yeah, BeBe (the old guy) started a fire with his glasses in the very first episode of the first season. Yao Man also started a fire with his glasses inFans vs. Favorites I believe and Michelle started a fire with someones glasses in Fiji. Of course Boston Rob started fire with just sticks in this season.
For your luxury item, I'm guessing a printout of Corina in her catwoman outfit?
-
I've thought about that, back when I was thinking about applying to be on the show and never really did come up with a good idea on it. I'd either pick something that could help with survival or some kind of brand name item that could get me free stuff when I got back lol. Like Rob in season 6 with his Magic 8 Ball, I read that whoever makes the Magic 8 Ball was very happy with Rob for that one.
I've told Amy (our oft absent Mod) that I'd be trying to find any way I could to "cheat" a little, like JT for instance. He wore those cowboy boots, I'd have had a heel hollowed out and water proof matches inserted. Or a belt buckle that is also a flint. I'd wear eye glasses that were really magnifying glasses that could aid in starting fire if needed. Stuff like that.
I'd also be prepared to go into the game right away, they like to surprise them sometimes and make them go into the game with just what they're wearing. Well, I might be wearing a suit on the outside but under the suit I'd be wearing the clothes that I wanted to play the game in (baithing suit or whatever).
As for the luxury item I'd want to take, I'll have to give that more thought.

As much as I like Survivor and as much as I enjoy re-watching some of the old seasons I'll be glad to see this season over. I'm tired of watching people who have played it 2 or even 3 times now. For most of them it's all about their camera time. I want to see people that have never slept outside a day in their lives or have never had to go hungry or whatever.
I don't want to see "professional reality TV stars" anymore, I want to see some amateurs.
As for Russell, there were times last season that I liked him but for the most part he's just clueless when it comes to actually winning the vote.
Anyone got any predictions on who you think will win Sunday? If so put it in a spoiler. Since I already know to within 99.99% who the winner is I won't put a prediction.

I watched one or two episodes of Star Gate and they were pretty good, I just never got around to watching beyond that. If Netflix has them available for instant viewing I might check it out there.
I watched the entire first season of Heroes on there and that was pretty good, I never got around to any of the other seasons though.

Sure, you just wait there for your refund check. Of course keep in mind that my challenge was specifically to Takara. But you're welcome to watch every episode of DS9 also.Let's say we do as you say and still think it is a bunch of crap. Will you refund us the cost of the DVDs? -
Why don't we have a Lt. Leslie action figure? My question would be, why wasn't he in any of the movies? He was in enough of the episodes to warrant at least a cameo.
I finally saw Endgame
in Star Trek: Voyager
Posted
Endgame was good, not the best of finales but it was good.
