  1. You know, I soooo much want to travel back in time and witness this moment. I mean I was 4 years old back then and not exactly interested in Star Trek...

But then, I guess if I had been a die-hard TOS fan back then, I'd have screamed in agony at the idea of an old bald guy who actually happens to THINK before he gives the order to fire phasers...:congrats:

In all fairness to Kirk and TOS he did his fair share of thinking before firing back then lol But in 1987 when TNG came out, from what I can remember, Picard wasn't exactly a fan favorite. From my memory, he was thought of as too passive in the first few shows. Almost timid when it came to reacting to Q in the first episode.

Makes you wonder if anyone at that point in 1987 believed that the series would go seven years and end up with Q still messing with the crew and with Picard's mind?

Oh, I can tell you that in my house after the first few episodes we didn't think it'd last. We liked it for the most part, but with those early episodes we just didn't think it'd make it past the originals 79 episodes.

I went into the Army about 11 days after the first season ended and missed the second and third seasons completely (I might have caught a few of the third season while I was at Fort Hood in Texas but probably not a whole lot of episodes).

By the time I was able to pick back up in the 4th season it was well established and on a roll.

  2. Yeah, that was too much for the seats they were wanting to sell me. It worked out to about $350 or $400 per seat for 10 years. I'll eventually get the season tickets when I can take the time to travel to Philly 8 Sundays per year but for now I don't have the time to do that so it'll wait.

  3. lol okay, you'll see my text.... maybe the other admin here knows something about it? idk it was pretty weird haha
Just got it lol I wish I'd have had my phone with me, I could have checked it out when I got to the computer lab but I'm 99.99999% positive that it was just site maintenance going on. I expected it, I just didn't expect it to happen until 3 or 4 am.

  4. Also, is there some reason why my account here was suspended this morning???

    huh? You weren't suspended. :congrats:

Yeah, I texted you about it but never heard anything back.
I haven't had my phone on at all today, I went out and forgot it. It may have been a server issue, Invision (our host) said they'd be moving the site (all of the files that make up STF) to a different server. So that may have been what was going on. You weren't suspended though.

I'll go turn my phone on now. lol

  6. Finally, an odd tidbit from the realm of so-called “legitimate” theater. It seems CBS Consumer Products is preparing an interactive stage show called “Star Trek Live” to be performed five times a day starting June 11 at the 300-seat Astronaut Encounter Theater at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex near Orlando, Fla.

Based on the franchise (though the plot seems more like the new movie), the 30-minute experience combines special effects and audience interaction, letting fans play new cadets at Starfleet Academy, where they will have to learn quickly about living, traveling and working in space and about the latest in communication and technology.

Sounds like a smart way to get the word out about this obscure franchise. ;-) Actually, the NASA connection makes a lot of sense.

This wouldn’t be the first interactive “Star Trek” experience for fans. Universal Studios theme parks in the late 1980s and early 1990s offered The Star Trek Adventure, which cast audience members as Starfleet officers and Klingons as they filmed an episode, and let participants buy a tape of the final result. And The Star Trek Experience operated out of the Las Vegas Hilton from 1998 to 2008, letting fans sip drinks at Quark’s Bar from “Deep Space Nine,” travel back in time to fight the Klingons, or fight off an invasion by the Borg. Highlights from the Vegas exhibit are available on the bonus disc of the Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection DVD and Blu-ray.

Maybe they should bring the whole Star Trek Experience to Florida.

  7. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!
I know this post is over 5 years old now but since it was never answered back then...

The Jem'Hadar are a race of warriors designed by the Founders (The Dominion) in the Gamma Quadrant, their only desire is to please the Founders (Odo's race - The Changelings) who are their 'gods'. Their sole purpose is to be the military might of the Dominion.

They have one flaw that was bred into them on purpose and that's an 'addiction' or biological need for the hormonal enzyme "Ketracel White" or simply just "White". Without the White they will eventually die, after going through several stages that will make them so aggressive that they'll kill everyone and everything in sight, including other Jem'Hadar and presumably even Founders if there happen to be any nearby when they get to that stage of "withdrawal".

The Hirogen are a Delta Quadrant race that thrive on hunting 'prey', it doesn't matter what or who they hunt just as long as they hunt something. The reason for the hunt is to gain 'trophies' to adorn their hulls. We see them in several Voyager episodes, "The Killing Game" being one of my favorites followed by "Flesh and Blood" which is another of my favorites.

The Hirogen are driven by their own motivations, their desire to acquire trophies and the thrill of the hunt. Desires though, can wane over time and motivations can change. This is why I believe the Jem'Hadar would ultimately defeat the Hirogen, provided that they have an ample supply of White. Destroy their supply of White and they'll eventually die off or kill each other off.

  8. I just watched it now. I can see why CBS combined 2 tribal councils into one episode. There wasn't enough interesting stuff for 2 episodes.
I think it also had to do with the alloted number of episodes they get and the fact of 20 contestants. They needed to get one more person out of the way to get the correct number of episodes. At least that was my thought on it.

They could have gone to 21 if they really wanted to. I think the Russell attacking people thing and the constant back-and-forth alliances is simply not as exciting for the viewers.
That's the stuff I enjoy, I usually fast forward through the challenges and rewards. It's in the in camp stuff I that I like.

  10. It's a Catch-22. You need your allies on the jury, but that means voting them off and making them no longer your allies.
Yeah, and that's where Russell is lost. He needs to put them on the jury in such a way that they aren't pissed at him. He tries to pit one against the other thinking that they won't talk to each other and if they aren't on his alliance then he'll just totally piss them off on purpose. No way JT, Rupert or Colby ever vote for him. Same with Amanda and Coach and Courtney. None of those votes go to Russell. That's 6 out of 9 jury votes right there.

That's probably how this season will play out. Ultimately, however, the only way to have a chance of winning is to get into the final 2. If you don't get that far it is pretty much irrelevant.

I agree, but the key is how you get there. Not just to get there. It should be a Final 3 this season and this season I don't see Russell getting any votes at the final jury.

His best bet was to try to make the final 3 look like this: himself, Dannielle, Jerri or kick Jerri out and add Courtney in or even Coach. The final 3 that he's going to be stuck with and the jury that it will make up guarantees he won't win if he's on the final 3.

  11. We know more a lot more about them than from TOS, didn't you watch the Enterprise episode "Bound"? Had it not been for T'Pol they'd have taken completel control of the Enterprise.

Is that the one where they captured T'Pol and put her up for auction? If a sexually repressed Vulcan female can do better in an auction than a horny Orion female that tells you something right there.

No, it's the one where a trio of Orion females take over the Enterprise.

  13. I'm not talking just about Kirk and that specific Orion female, I'm talking about all Orion females and all human males. Starfleet could never allow the Orions into Starfleet because of the potential of the Orions just using their females to completely take over the Federation without even firing a shot.

Having an Orion female in Starfleet might have looked cool to some Star Wars writers but it doesn't fit in a Star Trek universe.

Oh come on. In TMP Lt. Ilia had to take an oath of celibacy to be allowed to serve. Even still all she had to do was smile at Sulu - SULU!! - and he turned into a major klutz.

We really don't know that much about Orion female physiology, just bits and poeces from TOS. Maybe the seductive drive can be turned on and off at will.

  14. You know, I think Russell has to be one of the worst players to ever play Survivor. He does great for two thirds of the game but he doesn't seem to understand that he needs the jury to win and the way he plays guarantees that the jury will hate him.

I wouldn't go that far, but he is one of the worst *recurring* players. Unfortunately he is also one of the luckiest.

Richard Hatch wasn't one of the most people-friendly players either. Didn't seem to hurt him.

You really can't count the first season of Survivor when you're looking at who was good or bad. Well, not with who was good anyway. In Season 1 no one knew what the game was. Most of them seemed to think it was a "Survival" game, as in surviving the elements and hunger.

Take Hatch off of season 1 and put him on season 3 or 4 and he probably doesn't even sniff the jury.

With Russell, he just doesn't seem to understand that you win the game in the jury. Not in your strategy.

  15. Wow, Patrick Stewart is 69? I don't know why that surprises me but I hadn't realized he was almost 70.
Yes he is. He forgets about that fact as well, though, so, you're not alone! LOL (He went WATER-SKIING a little while ago. WATER-SKIING. And he's also trying to learn how to ski, too. What is he THINKING? *facepalm* *worried* lol)
Oh, I wouldn't worry about him. George Bush (the older one) is well into his 80's by now and he still jumps out of planes lol.

I was just a little surprised to see that age in print and associated to him.

  16. I don't think I've ever actually watched an episode of "Family Guy"

Then you've lost out. Its the funniest show on TV!

Please. Family Guy hasn't been funny consistently (if at all) since it came back from cancellation and it's been getting even worse lately. South Park was right, the show is written by manatees.

The Simpsons always has been and always will be the superior television series. Hell, in my opinion The Simpsons is the greatest series in the history of television (and I realize I'm saying that on a Star Trek message board). I acknowledge it may not be as good as it once was (but it is still eminently watchable) but quite frankly, nothing is as good as The Simpsons was in its prime.

I'd stack any episode of WKRP up against The Simpsons any day lol.

The only half hour cartoon I could ever sit down and watch was the Flintstones and that was when I was young.... though that's not entirely accurate, I did watch the Futurama episode episode of Star Trek a few weeks ago.

  17. Just the fact of an Orion Slave Girl being in Starfleet shows a lack of research on the part of the writers. They just wanted to have the "cool green chick" in the movie. They didn't take into account the past history of Orion females and their ability to control human males.

Remember, history changed in this Universe after the Narada appeared, so it works.

How does that change a races body chemistry though?

Oh, I was talking about an Orion chick being in Starfleet.

It was never said she couldn't control him, for all we know their being together was her idea.

I'm not talking just about Kirk and that specific Orion female, I'm talking about all Orion females and all human males.
