  1. I was always a very mixed soda kind of person. I like it all. A few years ago however I had to pretty much give up soda because of some blood sugar problems. I found that I could drink diet coke but the more I found out about Asparteme (the sugar substitute used in most diet sodas) the less I wanted to drink. I now drink Diet Rite which is made by RC Cola. It tastes a lot better then diet coke and it's sweetened with Splinda which is much safer the Asparteme but still doesn't effect me like sugar.

  2. Humanity was lucky in the Star Trek universe. Its first contact with alien life was with a peaceful species that while arrogant and somewhat elusive had basically good intentions.

    But What If?

Suppose that in addition to the Vulcan ship, the warp signature from the Phoenix was detceted by an Andorian ship passing near the Sol system. When the Andorian ship gets to Earth it realizes that the Vulcans have set down near the source of the warp signature and they decide to set down on the opposite side of the planet. The Andorians arent gonna let those damn Vulcans recruit another species to their side as with Coridan and so many others. What the Andorians dont realize is that they have set down in territory that is still partially controlled by the ECON(Eastern Coalition of Nations-Chian,Japan, Australia???)The local leaders are advised that a meddlesome race has made contact with their bitter enemies in the United States. The Andorians agree to help these primitive Human pink-skins do what it takes to keep the Vulcans and the Americans/New United Nations from controlling thier planet.

What happens next  on an Earth still divided and injured by World War III  becomes embroilled in a long term dispute between Vulcan and Andoria?Does the Earth ever become united?Does it end up on Vulcans side?Andoria's? or does it ultimately end up deeply isolationist and embittered or expansionist and arrogant-forming an alliance with the Klingons or the Romulans? Any and all ideas appreciated.

Sounds like a good start for a book. You could make it a time travel story in which Kirk (or Picard who knows...) has to go back and patch things up to protect the future. Kind of like Strangers From the Sky.

  3. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.  Yes, season 2 did have some strong points.  But I think the bad points out wieghed the good.  Here is my rant about what I think is wrong with season two:

    Click for Spoiler:

    • Several episode have been copies of the old episode.  Vanishing Point is a copy of Barcley's TNG episode.  Judgement Day, which did have strong points, is a copy of The Undiscovered Country.  The Crossing was a copy of I don't know how many episodes from all series.  First Flight was okay but it was a copy (or homage, take your pick) of The Right Stuff.

    • A Night in Sickbay could have been great.  It was extremely disappointing.

    • Minefield had plot holes left, right and center.  There were enough for a thread.

    • Trip is a good character but is my least favourite character.  He had way too much air time.  Plus that thing in the season finale shows that he ain't goin' any where any time soon.

    • Hoshi's one episode (Vanishing Point) was bad.  Mayweather's one episode was good.  Phlox had a good episode last season but his episode this season (A Night In Sickbay) was exremely disappointing.  My point is that my four favourite characters didn't recieve enough air time.

    • Regeneration was just grrrrrrrrrr.  I was throwing stuff at the tv until it stopped.  No joke.

    • The second half of the season was annoying.  It was a string of episodes that either bad, copies, or featured my least favourite character.

Please don't get the impression that I think all of season 2 was bad.  It just had many, many weaknesses.  My solution to this is simple.  HIRE NEW WRITERS!!!

I had to say it, but I have to disagree with you on almost every point. With the exception that I do agree that 'A Night in Sickbay' was a let down. In fact it was my least favorite episode all season.

I didn't see Judgement as being a rip off of The Undiscoverd Country. In fact I thought it was neat to see the same court room again. It was a Klingon Trial so of course there would be some similerities, but the over all story was completly different.

I loved Regineration, in fact I thought it was one of the best episodes to date! I know that a lot of people seem to think that history shows Picard as the first human to meet the Borg, however history says nothing about a group of people from the future helping Cochrane fix his ship after it had been damaged by a group of cyborgs. IMO First Contact messed up the time line and Enterprise simply made the best of it. Also they did a good job of never saying the name Borg so what exactly would that information be filed under? I doubt any 2 hundred years later would be thinking "oh the Borg, aren't they that race that we found 200 years ago that we really never knew anything about!"

Also I think that season 2 started getting really good durring the second half of the year. And Trip is probably my favorite character.

  4. I've seen the VHS taped for sale on ebay but it's hard to find more then one or two of them. I've also seen the entire series on ebay availible on Laser Disc, but then agian who really has a laser disc player... I myself downloaded the entire series from Kazaa and then burned it to VCD. I know these can be hard to find so I would be more then happy to share with anyone who is interested.

  5. I call my boss by his first name, however I also call my parents by their first names as well. Starfleet may not be military but that's no reason not to call thier captian sir. They have ranks don't they? They may not be military but they are clearly not civilians either.

As far as everything else goes.. There were a lot of things that changed during the time of TOS simply because Rodenberry didn't have a clear idea of what his universe was yet. I think it makes more sense to accept Starfleet and Phase cannons then it does to take the first few episodes of TOS word for word. When those episodes were written they had no idea if they would even have a second season, let alone 10 movies, 4 spin offs, and God knows how many books. Also in terms of technowledgy remember that TOS was created in a time when color TV's were still considered pretty cool stuff.

  6. I voted TNG. I really liked both DS9 and VOY but I always thought they were a bit slow paced. Also I'm not big on Faith of the Heart. TOS is fun but it's nothing that I would listen to other then when I'm watching the show.

  7. Rene Auberjonois played Father Mulcahy in the movie version of M.A.S.H. And who can forget Patrick Stewert as Gurney Halleck in the David Lynch version of Dune! Christopher Plummer who played General Chang in Star Trek VI also played the dad in The Sound of Music. Kirstie Alley whom we all know as the "real Saavik" is probably best known for her role on Cheers. She was also in the TV mini Series North and South with Johnathen Frakes.

  8. The thing that angers me about the Enterprise writers is that there are the occasional eps where they come strong out of the gate and introduce a good problem and then have the crew solve it, then the story seems to take a backseat as they find a quick way to end..perhaps it has to do with time restraints.

This has been one of my biggest problems with Enterprise as well. There have been so many episodes that could have easily been 2-parters but insted they solve everything in less than 5 minutes. TNG and DS9 hardly ever had this problem. With both of those series' the episodes just seem to flow better.

  9. This made me feel better about season 3.  At least Scott seems to be aware of the problems a relationship between Archer and T'Pol would cause, so mabe TPTB are, too.

But ya gotta wonder, how would the green makeup not get smeared everywhere?

    --------------------

"Lipstick? there's no lipstick on me."

"She wan't kissing your face my love."

    The Matrix Reloaded

This should cheer you up even more:

    UPN news release

The voice - over remark was made by a reporter with nothing better to do. I like Jolene's remarks.

That's interesting. I'm glad that niether Bakula or Blalock seem to think an Archer/T'Pol romance would be very helpful to the show. I wonder in what all ways season 3 will mirror the after math of 9/11. Will it be a sweet patiotic revenge story? A cold bitter and ugly revenge story? or will it be a learning experience in which everyone puts aside their differences and makes peace. This should prove interesting...

  10. Welcome aboard! I believe I know of the board for which you speak. I too discoverd startrekfans.net through another board and I haven't looked back since! I'm sure you will like it here.

  11. Quark followed closely by Pulaski. I'm dreading what he's going to do to poor Riker. :)

How do you like my new Avatar?

That's awesome! I might have to make myself a new flash avatar.

For Prometheus I voted for Quark. Archer was my second choice.

  12. I can very easily spend a lot of money on musical equpment and up grading my computer. After that I would say most of my non rent/food money goes towrd DVD's/CD's and then Alcahol/bars(which I don't spend on that often but it's never cheap...).

  13. I voted other. For the most part I stick to mix of different beers. My favorites are Tsingtao, Corona, Henikin, and Michelob. And when I'm feeling chaep I enjoy a Miller Light (which I am at the moment). There are those rare times when I enjoy a good mix drink at which times I can go for a good Gin & Tonic or a frozen Margerita.

  14. So far, and especially after watching The Expanse, I've been really happy with Enterprise. But I do think that it would be a great idea for the writers to write and memorize some character biogrophies for the crew so that they will stop changing these kind of things. The writing isn't that bad, I mean they've come up with some great stories, they just need to do more research.

  15. I usually rate Insurrection 6.9 out of 10.  It's not bad but the story had a few plot holes. But of course very few stories these days dont.  The FX were not that well dome IMO also.  It's better than ST V.  That's not a huge accomplishment.

I agree but I would ad that is was also much better then Generations as well.

  16. I voted "no" because it simply doesn't seem wise to have the captian lead away missions. I think it's a good regulation to have if for no other reason so that it can create friction between the captian and the first officer when the captian decides to go against it.
