  1. Exactly. The other question, APW, is WHY? Why the hell would they be interested in some po-dunk backwater like Earth? Compared to an Interstellar or Intergalactic Species, we're in the frickin' Stone age! the odds that they care enough to stop in and say "Hi" much less fight us are slim. Unless, like in "Independance Day", they need our resources.

  2. Correction, It would cut down on CIVILIAN casualties, APW. Actually, fighting ship to ship in space is more dangerous to the crew than traditional Naval warfare is (or air warfare) remember, you can't just "Jump Overboard" from a starship without already being in a pressure suit. Thank you for posting this, though. I'm beginning to see that the imaginitiveness of Liberals to conjure up rather interesting stories spreads beyond the US.

  3. Okay, here's the set up. You are a rookie free-agent in the NFL. missed the draft for some reason, but every NFL team (all 32) have contacted your agent and have offered you a contract. Where would you go? Do you go someplace like Indianapolis, who has a really hot team, and is probably a playoff contender? Or do you go someplace like Green Bay or Chicago, a team that may not be great right now, but has a history to it that few others do?

For me, Assuming it's May 2006, I'd look at it this way. I could go to Indy, and play with Peyton. Go to the playoffs, maybe even get my ring the first year. I could go to Philly and play with Donovan McNabb. Good choices both. Defensively, assuming I played on Defense, I could go to Chicago and play side by side with Brian Urlacher, or go to New York and line up next to Micheal Strayhan. But, All of those players I mentioned are going to be around a while. So, If I was going to make my decision based on playing with a future hall of famer, there is no choice. And this isn't because I have their helmet as my avatar. If I am going to have an opportunity to play with a future 1st Ballot hall of Fame player, The choice is clear: Green Bay. Brett Favre won't be around much longer. So, I'd want to get a chance to play with that man before the chance dissapears. He's a great QB, and a great leader.

There is also another thing: Green Bay has an unrivaled history to it. No other team in the National Football League has won as many championships has they have. Nobody. Period. Not the Cowboys, not the Niners, Nobody. And by championships I mean National Football League Championships. Green Bay was dominating the competition before there even was a Superbowl. The NFL has been around for some 80+ years now, but only had 40 Superbowls. And before the Superbowl Era, there was the Packers' Era. A time when men like Curly Lambeau and Vince Lombardi were kings. An area when a helmet was made out of the same material as the ball. And the Packers have plenty of history. they have a winning tradition there. so much of one, in fact, that when a team wins the Superbowl, they take home the VINCE LOMBARDI trophy, named after a man who forged his legend coaching in a small, Northeastern Wisconsin football team. That's where I want to play. I could care less about the big city lights, or a multi-million dollar contract. Give me a chance to be a part of the most storied franchise in NFL history. Give me a chance to be a part of the largest football organisation in the NFL (with more than 20,000 people who can legitimately claim to be a part of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers, after all, are owned by the community.) That's where I would play. How about you?

  4. Must be nice, Wishfire. My drivers have had to bust out the gloves and Standard Issue Domino's Pizza knit caps. In otherwords, it's clucking cold! we had some very light snow about a week ago. nothing major, but it was starting to stick a bit in certain areas, and some ice formed. It's supposed to (I guess) snow on Wednesday and Thursday throughout much of Illinois, Indianna, and Iowa, so maybe we'll get the first good snowball fight in...

I always give thanks on Thanksgiving for the wonderful people in my life. the whole famn damily, for one. All of my friends, for two. I also thank the good lord above that I live in such a wonderful place.

  5. This DJ has a few tracks to spin for ya today. I'll put them in spoilers so I don't take up ten miles of screen.

The first one is one Krissy always plays when things start to get alittle bumpy on this road we call life. I try not to worry too hard about much of anything, because I've seen hell first hand, and after having been there, nothing seems to be as bad. But, this song (and my usual response to it) always seems to make Krissy feel better.

Lyrics for Song: Just Might (Make Me Believe)

Lyrics for Album: Twice the Speed of Life

I got miles of trouble spreadin' far and wide

Bill on the table gettin' higher and higher

They just keep on comin', theres no end in sight

    I'm just holding on tight...

I've got someone who loves me more then words can say

And I'm thankful for that each and every day

And if I count all my blessings, I get a smile on my face

    Still hard to find faith..

    Chorus:

But if you look in my eyes

And tell me we'll be alright

If you promise never to leave You just might make me believe

Its just day to day tryin' to make ends meet

What id give for an address on easy street

I need a deep margarita to help me unwind

    Leave my troubles behind...

    Repeat Chorus

I used to believe in use

    When times got tough

Lately I'm afraid that even love is not enough

    Chorus:

But if you can look in my eyes

And tell me we'll be alright

If you promise never to leave you just might make

Oh, you just might make me

You just might make me believe

This next one goes out to all the folks in the Gulf Coast who today are still struggling to stand back up.

Lyrics for Song: Stand Back Up

Lyrics for Album: Twice the Speed of Life

Go ahead and take your best shot,

Let 'er rip, give it all you've got,

I'm laid out on the floor, but I've been here before,

I may stumble, yeah I might fall,

    Only human aren't we all?

I might lose my way, but hear me when i say,

    I will stand back up,

Youll know just the moment when ive have enough,

Sometimes im afraid, and i dont feel that tough,

    But I'll stand back up,

I've been beaten up and bruised,

I've been kicked right off my shoes,

Been down on my knees more times than youd believe,

When the darkness tries to get me,

Theres a light that just wont let me,

It might take my pride, and my tears may fill my eyes,

    But I'll stand back up,

    I've weathered all these stroms,

But i just turn them into wind, so i can fly,

What dont kill you makes you stronger,

When I take my last breath,

Thats when I'll just give up,

So, go ahead to take your best shot,

Let 'er rip, give it all you've got,

You might win this round but you cant keep me down,

    'Cause I'll stand back up,

And you'll know just the moment when ive had enough,

Sometimes im afraid and I dont feel that tough,

    But I'll stand back up,

Youll know just the moment when ive had enough,

Sometimes I'm afraid and I dont feel that tough,

    But I'll stand back up.

And as long as I'm spinning tracks today, why not New music from the King of Country Music, Garth Brooks!

Lyrics for Song: Good Ride Cowboy

Lyrics for Album: Good Ride Cowboy

From the hills of Kaycee, Wyoming

    Where life's wooly and wild

There's a Navy brat in a cowboy hat

    And that Copenhagen smile

And from buckin' broncs to honky tonks

He always sang a cowboy's song

We were much too young, havin' too much fun

    As we all sang along

    We sang Life's a Highway

There's only one way you're gonna get through it

When she starts to twist be more like Chris

    Pull your hat down tight

    And just LeDoux it!

    When that whistle blows

    And that crowd explodes

And them pickup men are at your side

They tell you good ride cowboy, good ride

From gold buckles to gold records

Once again he was spinnin' 'round

    Took the whole world on

And he turned us on to that Western Underground

And from Bareback Jack to This Cowboy's Hat

The songs were stronger than his pain

He would not slow down from town to town

Like children running thru the rain

    We sang Life's a Highway

There's only one way you're gonna get through it

When she starts to twist be more like Chris

    Pull your hat down tight

    And just LeDoux it!

    When that whistle blows

    And that crowd explodes

And them pickup men are at your side

They tell you good ride cowboy, good ride

    We sang Life's a Highway

There's only one way you're gonna get through it

When she starts to twist be more like Chris

    Pull your hat down tight

    And just LeDoux it!

    When that whistle blows

    And that crowd explodes

And them pickup men are at your side

They tell you good ride cowboy, good ride

When we cross that river Jordan,

With St Peter on the other side

Singin' Good Ride Cowboy, Good Ride!

Say Good Ride Cowboy, Good Ride!

  6. The other thing about those tankers is, dispite their huge size, they would have a relatively small crew. the Ship's Master, 1st Mate, maybe three sets of bridge crew (Which would consist of a Helmsman, Navigator, Sensor Officer, and a communications specialist) and probably a small engineering crew of 4-5. so, overall, the ship's crew would be less than 20 people, on a ship as you said about 800 meters long. a Starfleet vessel of equivelent size might, depending on it's mission, have a crew ranging from as small as 600 to over 1,500.

  7. I was talking with a buddy today about first dates, and he had some interesting stories. The only one I have though that is interesting is my first date (And follow-up the next day) with Krissy...

It was way back in the time of 7th grade. I asked her if she would like to go ice skating at the ice rink on Friday night for the Friday Nigh DJ Skate. She said yes. Why, I'll never know, she won't say. But it was obvious that we liked each other. Anyways, it turned out that it wasn't the two of us by ourselves I had been hoping for. several of her friends were there, with a camera. Towards the end of the night, pictures were being taken rather liberally, and one of Krissy's friends asked me to pose with Krissy. Since it was, Technically a date, she decided to take a commemorative picture. I have always been an opportunistic son of a biscuit, and that night was no different. as her friend snapped the picture, I struck the first shot in what would, thankfully, turn out to be a long relationship. I landed a big kiss right on her cheek. I don't think even roses turn as red as she did.

The next day, I walked her home from school, and we sat on her porch talking for about an hour. somehow, she ended up in my lap, and she asked me finally. "What did you mean by that kiss?" Well, Mr. Opportunity-Taker wasn't going to let a second shot slip away. All I said was "This". I placed my hand gently on her cheek and kissed her. I thought for sure I was a dead man. Especially since not 2 seconds later, her older brother (Known to all here as Hardcharginsarge) arrived home from football practice. but, as Mr. Bugs Bunny might say, "It's the beginning of a beautiful Friendship". Now, after...geeze, has it been 8 years? Krissy and I are no longer middle-school Boyfriend/Girlfriend, we're married and have kids. A funny and rather odd way to start a pretty good relationship.

  8. How would, if at all, STF.net be affected by this? I know that at the footer of the Portal we do have a copywrite notice, but would that protect STF? And what about the endless number of simming websites out there, such as Tangofleet.org and Bravofleet?

  9. Anyone know any really obsucre sports rules? In any sport, Football (American), Soccer (Outside the US, Football), baseball, basketball, Rugby, Hockey, Etc?

    Here's one for you.

GOALTENDING American Football- The act of blocking a Field Goal Attempt At the goal posts, if the kick would have been otherwise successful. infraction is either a 15 yard penalty or points awarded as if try was successful. A field goal or Point After Touchdown kick may only be blocked at or behind the Line of Scrimmage.

  10. I really dont' see that much of a difference and I use both - one at home the other at work.

I also use different hands at work and home so I'll reduce the stress on either hand. I actually miss the keybord command days of DOS because keys are faster to me than a mouse. And I really will be glad when we have some sort of hand device that you can direct at the screen w/out a mouse.

Are you refering to something like a laser pointer that interacts with the screen, TUH?

We have a ball mouse here, but the ones at work are lasers. we have 6 computers at work, but we only use the mouse regularly with one of them. 4 of the 6 are touchscreens (Git-R-Done!) so the mouse is pointless. the makeline computer, we use the mouse to set up the makeline screen, but that's about it. One motion per day with the mouse on that computer. the computer in my office (Jees, that sounds funny) is the only one we have to use the mouse with. the monitor isn't a touch screen.
