I chose Halfback. When I was with the Chiefs (Sem-Pro in Illinois) I was a halfback. in High school I was a Defensive Tackle.

Emmit and Tim have retired, the rest of the list is stickin' around. Jerry Rice may yet retire, but it depends on how things go at Bronco's Camp

Up, Up and Away they went! Good to hear that the Shuttle is back in space, where it belongs.

There are alot of things I could have done alot different, but Those decisions, and their consequences, have made me who I am today, and I like who I am. I made unwise decisions, but I learned from them (it may have taken me a few tries with certain things) I think about the only thing I might change is the one time I got robbed while working and decided to fight...I've got a pair of scars to remind me of it every morning when I take a shower. That's about the only thing I might change.

The Mythbusters did a thing about talking on the Cell while driving. According to that, you are about as impared as you are while you're drunk.
By the way, you have a better chance of being killed by your own toilet than to be killed by someone Driving While Smoking. (insert corny toilet joke here)

I like the movies, so maybe I should borrow the books from my sister.

Time for a smoker to weigh in. I understand totally your right not to be around me when I smoke. As a matter of fact, it has been stated before that I (the only smoker in this house---yes folks, Jim is now tobacco free) am not permitted to smoke in the house. I can smoke in the garage or outside. Doesn't bother me. and when I drive, I use my car ashtray. The college that I attend has a smoking section that is seperated from the main cafeteria and has large ventilators(Sp?) and if you smoke outside, you can't light up within 20 feet of the entrance. I understand this. I chose to smoke, you chose not to. I will respect your decision to smoke, and your right not to be around me when I do. However, smoking is a legal activity. the thing that annoys me is that elements on all levels of government are spending more effort to curb a legal activity such as smoking than they are to control illegal activities such as Cocain use. Let's get our priorities straight, here, folks. 90% of smokers are pretty considerate people. if you ask them not to smoke around you, they'll go somewhere else. Just be polite about it, PLEASE! and cut the crap about telling US it's bad for us! We know it is! It says it on the box, for cripes sakes!

Depending on who you trust, it either hit 100 or 98, but the heat index here was over 100. and with the high humidity (in the 90's) it certainly felt hot and muggy. And that's in Illinois! the average temperature is about 14 degrees cooler, with about 15 to 20 percent less humidity
-
Yesterday it reached 99 degrees air temp, with a heat index of over 100 degrees. Today we're expecting storms, so it should keep the temperature down to a cool, comfortable 88 or 89 degrees. and where am I you ask? Perhaps southern california? Maybe Arizona or Nevada? Try Illinois, about 40 miles north of Chicago!

I suppose "Phaserman" falls under "How in the hell did you come up with that?"
I try not to judge someone by their usernames. Any info I need will become available when you start reading posts.

it could be that the lowest enlisted ranks (EI those below Petty Officer 3rd Class) would have no insignia. the other possibility is this:
Crewman: No Insignia
Petty Officer: 1 black pip
Chief Petty officer: 2 Black Pips
However, it would not seem right that someone could serve for 20+ years and only hope to be promoted twice during that time, unless they attended an Officer School.
-
Perhaps very junior enlisted? in the US Military, the lowest rank in the Military (E-1) has no insignia.
-
Jim used to pull those kinds of watches on Shore-duty before he went to OCS. I think his success there helped determine that he needed to become a Zero.
-
Psy, I was gonna tell ya ya just need to know someone over 21, but you have a good point about the meds. By the way, my buddy mike says I am drunk, but I don't believe him. However, I am NOT driving anywhere till I wake up in about 12 hours...
-
I stole yer bottle, Jim. It's Mine! Muahahahahah! J/K. But I am drinking Cuervo.
I drink what Jim Buys. I don't care...

Aren't there commissioned and non-commisioned officers in the military? Commissioned officers start with rank of Ensign in the Navy (and Lt. in Army - excent and correct me I'm wrong - Captain if they have a professional degree Dr./Lawyer)Anyway, I'm guessing the Star Trek universe operates the same way. You wouldn't necessarily see enlisted personnel and officers interacting because there's a barrier there in real life.
I thought Troi's promotion was to rank of Lt. Cmdr. but also - and this is as much a question as an opinion - I thought her test was also about command path versus medical.
Being an officer is also a status thing - remember An Officer and a Gentleman. Or read an old English novel to understand the difference between officer and enlisted.
Yes, there are Commissioned and Non-Commissioned Officers in the Military. Myself, being a Petty Officer 3rd Class, would be considered an NCO. as would Odie (Petty Officer 1st Class) An Officer is anyone holding the rank of Ensign or 2nd Lieutenant or above. there is also a middle ground. the Warrant Officers are Warranted as officers by the President of the United States.

Very Nice, Takara. I always thought, though, "Premier" sounded a little too communist for a free society. I can understand how most of you can not remember the names of Premiers from various parts of the country. I can only name 3 governors from the US (Blagovich, D, IL; Schwartzenegger, R, CA; Bush, R, Fl) off hand. the rest I'd have to look up.

So, what's your favorite Patriotic song? With Canada Day being today, and Independance Day being Monday, I figured this would be a good question to pose. I am not picky if it's American or Canadian, since both are celebrating national holidays this weekend.
Mine is definately Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All"
By the way, the radio station in my area is doing the top 5 Patriotic Songs in Chicagoland. Here's what they are...
5. Billy Ray Cyrus "Some Gave All"
Click For SpoilerI knew a man called him Sandy KaneFew folks even knew his name
But a hero was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don't understand
About the reasons we are free
I can't forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cries
As he said these words to me
All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all
Now Sandy Kane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo through out our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man
Love your country and live with pride
And don't forget those who died America can't you see
All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall
Some gave all
Some gave all
4. Lee Greenwoord "God Bless the USA"
Click For SpoilerIf tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my lifeAnd I had to start again with just my children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away
And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA.
From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston, and New York to LA
Well there's pride in every American heart
And its time we stand and say:
That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA.
3. John Micheal Montgomery "Letters from Home"
Click For SpoilerMy Dear Son, it is almost June,I hope this letter catches up to you, and finds you well.
Its been dry but they're calling for rain,
And everything's the same ol' same in Johnsonville.
Your stubborn 'ol Daddy ain't said too much,
But I'm sure you know he sends his love,
And she goes on,
In a letter from home.
I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, and they all laugh,
Like there's something funny bout' the way I talk,
When I say: "Mama sends her best y'all."
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
Waiting on letters from home.
My Dearest Love, its almost dawn.
I've been lying here all night long wondering where you might be.
I saw your Mama and I showed her the ring.
Man on the television said something so I couldn't sleep.
But I'll be all right, I'm just missing you.
An' this is me kissing you:
XX's and OO's,
In a letter from home.
I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, and they all laugh,
'Cause she calls me "Honey", but they take it hard,
'Cause I don't read the good parts.
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
Waiting on letters from home.
Dear Son, I know I ain't written,
But sittin' here tonight, alone in the kitchen, it occurs to me,
I might not have said, so I'll say it now:
Son, you make me proud.
I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, but no one laughs,
'Cause there ain't nothing funny when a soldier cries.
An' I just wipe me eyes.
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
Waiting on letters from home.
2. Trace Adkins "Arlington"
Click For SpoilerI never thought that this is where i'd settle down,I thought i'd die an old man back in my hometown,
They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done,
there's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road,
the man inside he cried the day they brought me home,
they folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we're proud of your son
Chorus:
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful peice of property,
I'm on sacred ground and i'm in the best of company,
I'm thankful for those things i've done,
I can rest in peice, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington
I remember daddy brought me here when i was eight,
we searched all day to find out where my granddad lay,
and when we finally found that cross,
he said, "son this is what it cost to keep us free" Now here i am,
a thousand stones away from him,
he reconized me on the first day i came in,
and it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me.
(Repeat Chorus)
and everytime i hear twenty-one guns,
i know they brought another hero home to is
we're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done,
we can rest in peace, 'cause we are the chosen ones,
we made it to arlington, yea dust to dust,
don't cry for us,w e made it to arlington
1. Toby Keith "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue"
Click For SpoilerAmerican girls and American guys, will always stand up and salute. We'll always recognize, when we see ol' glory flying,
There's a lot of men dead,
So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads.
My daddy served in the army where he lost his right eye,
But he flew a flag out in our yard 'til the day that he died.
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me.
To grow up and live happy in the land of the free.
Now this nation that I love is fallin' under attack.
A mighty sucker-punch came flying in from somewhere in the back.
Soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye,
Man, we lit up your world like the fourth of July.
Hey, Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list,
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist.
And the eagle will fly and it's gonna be hell,
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell.
And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you.
Ah, brought to you, courtesy of the red, white and blue.
Instrumental break.
Oh, justice will be served and the battle will rage:
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage.
An' you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A.
'Cos we'll put a boot in your *buttocks*, it's the American way.
Oh, oh.
Of the red, white and blue.
Oh, hey, oh.
Of my Red, White and Blue.

I agree with Odo. American Citizens don't want to serve in the Military these days because they don't want to risk combat, but these folks aren't even naturalised Americans yet and they are willing to do it. I suppose it shows that becomming an American citizen still means something to someone at least, in a time when some people are considering fleeing the country...
-
I thought we aught to build a new one that resembled a hand giving a specific, single fingered gesture...
-
I'm going to Wave the Flag, sing patriotic songs, Talk trash about everyone else in the world and revel in America's general superiority (That was meant as a joke, by the way, it's okay to laugh). THen I'll get hammered while watching the fireworks. Maybe throw a few burgers and some hot dogs on the grill...
-
Submarines are definately important, but I was more refering to Surface Combattants. Many countries with navies operate Submarines, but only a few actually build them. The two most popular types are the German Type 209 D/E Boat, and the Russian Kilo D/E Boat. Most Submarine equipped navies use Diesel Electric because they are cheap and easy to maintain. the US is the only Navy to my knowledge that has a submarine force that does not include any D/E boats.

Interesting design, what I've seen of it. I remember when they were trying to decide from like four designs. When my dad was on the Chancellorsville, I went on a Tiger Cruise, and they did both day and night shoots, I thought it was awesome. they fired like 6 rounds normal, then they went into rapid-fire. that cruise was, coincidentally, the first time I got some trigger-time with the .50...

I've got one from World War II. Normally, I check out their websites. I am a frequent visitor to (I think) www.Navy.Mod which is the Royal Navy's website. navy.mil.au is, I believe, the website for the RAN...That's how I normally keep tabs on things. I think it's the Germans who have a Corvette that's largest gun is a 40mm rapid fire cannon. The gun I guess is also used by the Italians, it's supposedly like a big 40 mm revolver that fires something like 600 rounds a minute.
Presenting the NFL Hall of Fame class of 2010

Tim Brown is a quiet kind of reciever, he doesn't talk it up the way many recievers today do, but he certainly has the numbers to make it to the hall. and he is definately a class-act. He has numbers that make TO and Javon Walker cry when they see them. and the guy has never once threatened to hold out. I fear that players like Tim Brown are becoming rarer and rarer these days. This is the age of Terrel Owens, Micheal Vick, Randy Moss, and Warren Sapp. Players who perform well, and want the whole world to know about it. Tim Brown is among the last of a breed of players who go out on Sunday and play, and let their numbers do all the talking. Tim Brown's achievements in the NFL speak louder about his greatness than anything that TO might say about himself.
