1. It would be interesting, Lord of the Borg, but there are a few cases here where more than one member lives within the same house, and that presents a computer availability problem. However, even if we could get a number as small as 25%, that would be impressive. the other problem is the amount of bandwidth available on the site. 1,000+ members all trying to get on at the same time, say 4 July 2005 at 1200 Greenwich Mean Time, could cause the server to collapse.

  2. The wheels on the bus go round and round....

You've got it wrong, TUH, and you're gonna shoot me for this, I bet....

The wheels on the bus go open and shut, open and shut, open and shut. The wheels on the bus go Open and Shut, all day long. The door on the bus goes round and round, round and round, round and round, all day long...the windows on the bus go swish swish swish, swish swish swish, swish swish swish, all day long. the Wippers on the bus go waa waa waa, waa waaa waa, waa waa waa, all day long. The kids on the bus go Shhh shhh shh, shhh shhh shhh, all day long...the driver on the bus goes swish swish swish, swish swish swish all day long...

I've got that song in my head now, but I've also got Cowboy Troy's "I Play Chicken with the Train" in my head. (go to cowboytroy.com to learn more)

  3. I do believe, and I have had experiences to back this up.

    1. Anyone ever heard of Fort Sheridan? It's an old Army post near Highland Park in Illinois, about 20 miles north of Chicago. Well, before my dad retired from the Navy we lived on Westover Road, in old Cavalry housing. On the rare night I would be alone, I could SWEAR I'd hear booted feet walking around upstairs. Now, remember, my dad was in the Navy, and wore boots to work quite often, so I know the sound of booted feet on hard wood floors. and it was definately the sound I heard. Now, people always want to tell me it was the Dog, or the Cats, but dog and cat paws don't have NEARLY the resounding sound of boots on hard wood.

    2. When I was ten, just after my great grandfather died, I was laying in bed one night, watching Baywatch of all things (Great night time TV, by the way). My TV was located on the far wall of my room, with my bed in the middle. I was laying there facing the TV when I heard a rather distinctive husky voice saying "Gary!" scared the daylights out of me. and, I smelled the distinctive smell of his pipe. I can't remember what it was he smoked in his pipe, but I remember it always smelled really good. And I know this wasn't one of my brothers or my dad playing a trick on me, because none of them could match Grandpa Curley's voice, and my dad didn't buy a pipe until a few years later.

    3. Anyone ever been to Old Town in San Diego? If so, have you visited the Whaley House? I did in 4th Grade. If you've been there, Nuff said. if not, click on the this Link

  4. I love Band of Brothers! if I had the money, I'd buy all six DVDs. By the way, TUH, have you seen the last part of that? "We Stand Alone Together" with the real men of Easy 506? Made me and Jim and Darryl cry like babies. Especially when Winters is talking about the letter Mike Ranagan wrote him.

"I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day. He asked me "Grandpa, were you a hero during the war?" Grandpa said "No, but I served with a company of heroes" Wow.

By the way, TUH, there is a Star Trek connection here. Tom Hardy appears in the last two or three episodes as Private John A. Janovec. and Ladies, you get to see his bare hindparts in "Why we fight"

  5. That's what I like about Football and Wrestling among other sports on the High School level: You show up, you are on the team. Then again, those sports (and certain others) require large teams. You'd think Wrestling would not require a large team, but there are ALOT of weight Classes, and you need multiple people for each.

Here are the IHSA Wieght Classes to the best of my memory

    95 lb

    112 lb

    125 lb

    130 lb

    135 lb

    140lb

    150lb

    160 lb

    170 lb

    195 lb

    215 lb

    275 lb (Heavywieght)

That's 12 Wiegth Classes. and in wrestling meets with teams, the team with the most accumulated points wins (Teams get points for wins, pins, and if their opponent forfiets, meaning no wrestler in a weight class). if someone gets injured, you need someone to take that spot, and you don't want your 275 lb wrestler practicing with the 95 lb wrestler, since the strategies are different in those two classes. and in Football, you have 48 potential starting possitions to fill, so most teams keep a team of around 50 players. Now, not everyone starts, but you do need backups, since football seasons without a player being injured in some way are rare.

  6. Well, Lursa, Valderans live an average of about 500 years. Presently, they are only found in one Star Trek RPG (USS Eros sim, PM me, Jim, or Lotti for more info on that). First known contact with the Federation was in 2295 when the Enterprise B stumbled upon a Valderan Destroyer near the M4765 system, about 4 lightyears from the Federation border.

The Valderan education system is somewhat different than that of the local species (Humans, in perticular). Valderans begin school at age 3, and complete their secondary schooling at age 14, at which point they decide what they will do with their lives. Those who join the military enroll in Basic Military Training, which is a 4-year boot camp that all members of the armed services attend. Officers then attend the Military Academy of their respective service. What they do in the military determines what happens after the Academy. Engineers go through a 2 year Engineering program, Fighter and Bomber Pilots attend a 2 year training program, and doctors go through a 4 year medical program. On the civilian side, they go to a Junior College for 4 years from 14-18 years of age, then on to a University at 18. Depending on what they wish to do, they may attend further education after the University level, or they may skip the university level all together and go straight into a profession. The Ministry of Defense is the Empire's largest employer, with 64 Million active and reserve personnel in uniform, as well as another 100,000,000 civilians.

Civilians in the Empire generally enjoy the same freedoms as those of the Federation. the Bill of Rights is essentially the same. the unit of currency is the Kurat, which is equivelant to 2 bars of latinum. Unlike in other cultures, the Valderan Military is paid quite well. Below is the pay (per half month) for the various levels of the Military.

    E-1: 1,500 Kurats

    E-2: 2,000 Kurats

    E-3: 2,500 Kurats

    E-4: 3,000 Kurats

    E-5: 3,500 Kurats

    E-6: 4,000 Kurats

    E-7: 4,500 Kurats

    E-8: 5,000 Kurats

    E-9: 5,500 Kurats

    WO1: 5,000 Kurats

    CWO2: 5,500 Kurats

    CWO3: 6,000 Kurats

    CWO4: 6,500 Kurats

    CWO5: 7,000 Kurats

    O-1: 6,500 Kurats

    O-2: 7,000 Kurats

    O-3: 7,500 Kurats

    O-4: 8,000 Kurats

    O-5: 8,500 Kurats

    O-6: 9,000 Kurats

    O-7: 10,000 Kurats

    O-8: 11,000 Kurats

    O-9: 12,000 Kurats

    O-10: 13,000 Kurats

    O-11: 14,000 Kurats

    O-12: 15,000 Kurats

O-13: 15,500 Kurats (Only one officer ever holds O-13 <Warmaster>)

Junior Cadets are paid 100 Kurats a month

Cadets earn 250 Kurats a month.

These pay scales are equivelent to similar jobs in Civilian life. For example, an Ensign would make roughly the same as a recent university graduate working at a major business. the Government has decided that Military personnel will be payed the same as the average salary of someone of the equivelent rank within the business sector.

The Valderan year is 64 Earth weeks in length. this is because Valderis sits slightly farther out from Valdera, the star it orbits, than Earth does. The year is 8 months long, each month being 7 weeks. the Months are: Jakal, Koral, Nocral, Ogral, Gaghal, Frogtal, Iktalal and Sectal. Literally translated, they mean "1st Month", "Second Month", "Third Month" and so on (Al being the Valderan word for Month)

phrases to know when visiting Valderis...

    Jukagta'Rich: Hello

    Jukagta'Nor: Good Bye

Dragh majak broka Nigt?: Where is the food?

after that, you may need to ask this:

Dragh majak broka y'gal?: Where is the restroom?

quera vrogk shikat hagt _____ vak Valderick?: How do you say _____ in Valderan?

quera vrogk shikat hagt _____ vak Englick?: How do you say ____ in English?

quera vrogk shikat hagt _____ vak klingick?: How do you say ____ in Klingon?

    Nigrok: Please

    Jak Shikat: Thank You

  7. As bad as the base closings are, some of the reallignments are also going to have major impact in local communities.  At the Rock Island Arsenal, on Arsenal Island, on Iowa- Illinois border, they are talking about a loss of 1400 civilian jobs.  The Arsenal is the largest emplyer in the Quad Cities which includes the metropolitan area around Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa and Moline and Rock Island, Illinois.  The loss of that many jobs, and the decreased purchasing power and loss of sales for local businesses will have a very negative effect on the economy there.  Closures and reallignment in smaller communities will be devastating to their local economies.  The arsenal has been busier recently doing more armor production.

    324010

Great Lakes is losing about twice that. And the Wisconsin Air National Gaurd is NOT AT ALL happy about the reserve center at Gen. Mitchell being shut down. the 440th Airlift Wing will be sorely missed up there.

  8. Right now Jim is upstairs watching FNC crying like a baby. the Pentagon has released the list of bases recommended for closure and one of them is very near and dear to his heart: Naval Submarine Base at Groton, Conn. where he trained to be on a Submarine. Other bases include Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, and a Naval Air Station near Atlanta. in all, 33 major installations and 100 smaller bases, including dozens of reserve and National Gaurd posts, are on the list. More to come when I hear more.

  9. Yep. That's the kind of stuff you use when you need to strip the paint of the JPJ... "Hey, You, run to the Chief's Mess and grab a pot of the black stuff, this paint won't come off!"

  10. Please don't cry too much when the Ravens beat the Packers on Monday Night Football......lol

    321387

Which team made it to the Playoffs? Now, I'll grant you this: The Ravens had to contend with playing in the same division as the Steelers, but still...The Raven's Defense will have their hands full with Green Bay's formidable O-line and their ability to spread the field. Javon Walker, Donald Driver, and Bubba Franks are all great recievers, and then you've got a 5-headed monster of a backfield to worry about.

Ben doesnt play like a Young Quarterback.

plus the Steelers O-line if the remain healthy will help him out

I'll admit that, DW. The kid can play. Now he needs to start every game for the next...14 seasons, regardless of injuries to impress me.

  11. Okay, so yesterday I'm doing my radio show, and I go to CMT.com...and there is a video for this dude. His name is Cowboy Troy. If you aren't familiar with Cowboy Troy, click on his name below and check him out.

That's assuming I decide to re-enlist when my term is up. my term will be up about the same time I graduate college...

I do like regular hamburgers, with the works, 'specially if it's a BK Double Whopper. Micky D's and Wendy's have burgers that are good, too, but I like the size of BK's burgers. and I prefere a beer-battered bratwurst to Hotdogs.
