VBG is right. My "team" <the four guys I work with on inspection missions, that's who I am heading to Iraq with> and I have an unofficial motto, and that is "Peace through Superior Firepower." this I think is the basic goal of the US Military. we will achieve peace, should it be neccisary, through skill and shear firepower. We in the armed forces are trained for war, but we would always prefere that the UN work things out before we have to do our thing. Trust me, No sane warrior likes the thought of taking another human's life. in fact, my uncle had a mental breakdown because he killed someone in the line of duty. Our Goal is peace, and we achieve peace by taking on the missions required of us that are handed down from the Commander in Cheif (President in the US, NOT the Secretary General of the UN. he is not in my Chain of Command, and therefor his orders mean little to me unless I recieve similar orders from the CinC.> for the defense of the nation, which may require an offensive operation (Afghanistan. I don't see anyone protesting Afghanistan)

Well, the Brits never cared much for Bush anyways, right?

Why is it only the American landers seem to be working? are we just that much better at this than the rest of the world?

Technology is wonderdful, and Humans are also improving on it by leaps and bounds. 100 years ago, Orvill and Wilbur Wright never would have concieved that, becasue of their invention, we have routine space travel, and we have put a man on the mars. also, the Space Shuttle is hardly the cutting edge of technology. the computer I am writing this post on has more power than the entire space shuttle's computer system. I think it is entirely possible that, within the next ten years, we could be ready to send people to mars. actually, to tell you the truth, the computer I am on, while more powerful, seems slow by comparison. (It's a PIII 550, and the newer P4 and AMD processors blow it out of the water.) also, with newer composite materials, we can build a spacecraft that is stronger and better than the Enterprise class Orbiter, all while at the same time making it lighter, if it is the same size. but before we go to Mars, I think we do need to establish some sort of a forward base, like a refueling station on the moon, because the breakaway from Earth will consume alot of fuel.

American Football, Oh Yeah. Zion-Benton Zee Bees (HS) Lake County Cheifs (Semi-Pro) Wisconsin Badgers, SDSU Aztecs (College) and The Packers (NFL) are my respective favorites. now can you tell me which ones of those I played for?

Hey, if I visit when I am in Kuwait next week, then Iraq, will you add those two to the list?

Ah, but remember, in 1961, we did not have the technology yet to go to the Moon, yet when President Kennedy challenged America to put a man on the moon, we answered the challenge in a way in which only America can. we didn't put ONE man on the Moon, we put TWELVE men on the moon.

Interesting idea. Did you know there is a Space Command in the US Navy?

So, Noone is contesting that Starfleet could be analogous to the USCG? Perhaps I need to inform my friends in the Puddle Pirate Brigade that they could be trhe forerunners of Starfleet?
-
Perhaps you haven't heard, but Dubya, as he is lovingly called, is preparing to announce his plan to re-invigorate NASA, with possible revisiting of the Moon and possibly MARS! if he can push this through, I think he would do alot to endear himself to Star Trek fans. -
a three parter? Wow! Hey, Picard, you used to also be Daniel_jackson in the startrek.com rooms, didn't you?
-
it's like someone opened the floodgates. the startrek.com room was always packed. after a while, you get used to filtering out who you don't want to talk to, and alot of people end up in Private messages anyways. basically, you get used to it.

Ah, Okay.

I would be hard pressed to believe this is the first time this has happened, in ANY state, so I am assuming that there are legal precidents that have been set concerning lotto fraud. as far as I am concerned, though, no ticket, no cash. but as I voted, it's not up to me, it's up to the courts.

He's been up to cloning people and making himself a big problem in the chats. I can ignore him if he would keep the same name, but he keeps switching it.

Good Luck, Cap! -
So, no comments on getting this skin to cover the stuff on my face? Eh, guess my stand up routine needs some work...

I would have to say my favorite non-star trek movie is....Hmm...My home movies from when I was 5...just kidding. I don't know. probably Star Wars: Return of the Jedi or Top Gun. :tomcat:

Hmm, who would play me? name some actor who is 6'4" tall, wieghs 250 pounds, can pretend to play a Semi-pro football player who works for a Pizza place to support a family he had too early, and is dealing with the stresses inherent to someone preparing to go into a warzone. any ideas, guys?

that was a speedy recovery.

I should call my father in law and ask him precisely what he would do...but it's 11 PM now and he'd threaten me with a lawsuit or something...or revoke the ultimate privelage of being related to a lawyer: Free legal councel.

Being the Skipper is my ultimate goal. I am in the reserves to pay for college, and when I graduate, I am going to OCS so I CAN be a captain, so take a wild guess what my vote was...
-
I'd vote for Picard, but I don't know...Maybe I wouldn't want him as MY president because he doesn't fit the criteria, other than that, I guess he'd be pretty good. However, Ben Sisko...Ben Sisko has the ability to be firm with his oponents, and he has the...the spine, yeah, that's it, to back up what he says. Kinda like Dubya...

Hey, VaBeachGuy, looks like this place will be in good hands during your absence. :tomcat:
Is Starfleet Military?

I think most people also ignored my comment about Starfleet being more analogous to the Coast Gaurd rather than the Navy, but hey.
