  1. With Veteran's day approaching here in the US (Tomorrow) I wanted to pose a question to all Veterans. What was the most memorable experience of your service? What was the most fun? what was the least fun?

As for me...Well, being a reservist, Not a whole lot is memorable, so my Iraq tour would be the most memorable experience. the funnest part was driving a Rigid Hull-Inflatable Boat in the port of Umm Qasr. the least fun was probably being away from my family. Being away from home was the hardest part of the whole thing for me. The other fun thing was trying to identify flags being flown on ships coming into port. We'd have a pool on what country we thought the ship was from, and when they docked, we'd ask a crewmember where the ship was from. I was in the pools for the first few months, then I realised that I am not good with National flags, so I stopped throwing money in.

  2. Think you know the answer? Are you sure?

the Red Baron was killed by a single .303 round entering in his right side and exiting just below his left nipple. Click on the spoiler to find out if you picked the right one.

    Roy Brown

    Click For Spoiler
He participated in the Baron's final battle. diving from above to help a fellow pilot, Brown was given credit for killing the infamous German flier. However, using ballistic tests, it was proven "Highly unlikely" that Brown hit the Baron's plane at all, and didn't have the angle on Richtofen to inflict the wound.

    Eddie Rickenbacker

    Click For Spoiler
Though at the time of the Baron's death Rickenbacker was flying in the ETO, he was not present at the engagement, and therefor could not have shot down Manfred von Richtofen.

    Snowy Evans

    Click For Spoiler
if you picked Snowy Evans, you are correct. Evans was the only person to have a shot at the Baron that could have inflicted the wound. a second infantrymen fired on him, and likewise had the angle, but reported he only hit the plane in the Engine. Evans is the only person who could have inflicted the fatal wound.

  3. I was reading an article online today about Antimatter engines. it appears Gene Roddenberry had the wrong idea. Matter/Antimatter engines are a good idea, but not as a source of power for Warp drive, but more likely, for high speed impulse drive.

as we all know, when Matter and Antimatter come in contact with one another, they make a fairly good explosion giving off alot of energy---hence why Matter and Antimatter are used in Photon Torpedoes. using a magnetically charged engine bell, a Matter-Antimatter explosion could be used as a form of pulse-jet type propulsion. the reaction would--theoretically--provide more power than a chemical or nuclear rocket engine, at a greater fuel economy, since all of the propellant is used in the combustion--no excess left over, like in a rocket or a jet. Scientists have found ways to convert Protons into antiprotons, the only problem comes in keeping them stable enough for long trips for use as fuel. One possible solution to this problem is to carry Deuterium, a Hydrogen isotope, aboard and convert some into Antimatter for use when needed. Adding in all the wieght of the engine, the converters, and the fuel, you still end up with less mass carried than with a chemical rocket or a nuclear rocket, AND, there is a lesser risk of radiation poisoning from the engine. below is a design for an Antimatter rocket.

  4. As a homecoming present, I got to go to see the Packers and Bears at Lambeau Field, before the game, the stadium announcer said something like this...

"The National Football League and the Green Bay Packers are proud to honor the sacrifice of Former Arizona Cardinal and Army Ranger Pat Tillman, and all the men and women who have given their lives to defend our country".

I went to visit the college I went to before I was deployed, and several of my friends made mention that I was a hero. I have also seen posts to this on this board. I would like to point out that the REAL heros are the men and women like Pat Tillman, the people who came home in a flag drapped coffin, or didn't come home at all.

  5. Guess who's back? Back again? Gary's back, Tell a friend!

Hey guys, glad to be back in the good ol' USA. I've missed home soo much!

and you are all very welcome. I served my country because it was what I felt I needed to do. I still have 3 years on my enlistment to the Reserves, but I don't forsee going anywhere any time soon

  6. Do you know precisely how much those pads help? if not, just ask LeRoy Butler, who broke his shoulderblade, or Terrel Owens, who broke his collar Bone, both are bones protected by shoulderpads. besides, any REAL football player yearns for some Backyard, unrestricted, unpadded football. that's the way to play. and Don't be a wimp about it and keep the fat boys off the field. get em in their as linemen. so what if your 350 pound neighbor busts you up when he tackles you for a 5 yard loss, it's what football is about!
