  1. (I swear I'm not disagreeing with or correcting anyone, but if this sub-discussion is going to continue, it's important to note that 7of9 did indeed talk about the events of First Contact in Voyager.)

I don't have all of Voy on DVD, and the amount of time to blow the dust off the aging stack of VHS and play through is too much work. So please: which ep and what time frame. Can you provide a transcript?

    Hehe, same situation here. :dude:

I just recall that from memory. Seven was having a discussion with Harry and B'elana. I believe it was the ep that had the Kim/Torres quizzing each other about historical information, and Seven brought up how the Borg were present at first contact, etc. If I remember the ep name, I'll let you know.

  2. Right now, there's no series that I stop to watch on a regular basis, but I've seen 4 or 5 episodes of Lost and it's a really well-written show.

I was only able to catch the last 15 minutes of the season finale last night. Would someone mind providing a general recap of the first part of the ep for me? (in a spoiler)

    :dude:

  3. Nice design, Jim. More rounded than the Peregrine, but very similar in design. :P

Well this is very much what I myself was aiming for with my "Project" thread.

Another few things that could be considered are:

    - Starfleet "Carrier" vessels. These would be the largest starships in the Federation fleet, essentially the "command centres" for various operations. They would be stocked with a fleet of various Federation starfighters of varied designs and types.

Like a larger/newer/more well-equipped version of the Akira class or Curry-type? Actually, the first image that popped into my head was the Excalibur class (fan design). Essentially, a gargantuan Sovereign. Very nice, though.

    - Starliners. These would be the "ocean liners" of spaceflight. Designed for leisure cruises and carrying passengers on pleasure cruisers. Essentially think of the "Queen Mary 2 in space" and that's generally what I'm think of. These vessels would be immense and privately owned by starliner companies and corporations.

I'm sure they're around, but it would be nice to see some better-looking passenger ships than the generic "transports" we've become accustomed to.

    - Greyhounds. I don't mean motor vehicle buses, but I would think that people/civilians who need to get from one planet to another need some kind of public transport system. So why don't we see them in Star Trek? We should see "starbuses" or "startrains".

Yes, more courier-type ships would be nice.

    - Private transport. Why don't the citizens of the Federation have their own private space-vehicles? In today's world, people have cars, in the future I would think you'd have a hover-car to travel around the city you live in. Now, people may say "well, they have the transporter beam", yeah but we could explain that the transporter uses a massive amount of energy and is limited to really miltary use aboard starships. Plus the distance you can travel is limited. Federation citizens should also have their own personal spacecraft like "spacecars". Why don't they?

Again, I'd say this is common; they just aren't shown very often (other than several aliens in VOY, I think).

    - Industrial spacecraft. We should also see "spacetrucks", freighters and large bulk carriers. I want to introduce industry and commerce into Star Trek, so we WILL need to see industrial space vehicles.

If there's one thing Trek doesn't lack, it's freighters. Half the galaxy is apparently full of Antares-class freighters. I do see where you're going, though.

    - Federation Hospital Ships? It seems that they should be seen somewhere in Star Trek.

    Would the Pasteur qualify?

  4. Thanks to AE (I believe), and my apologies, Matt, for not noticing it sooner.

Even though I don't think it was a good series finale, it was still a decent episode (IMO). It is canon, but like others have said, details can get lost throughout history. You don't have to consider "TATV" to be a completely accurate representation of events.

  6. ...debate endlessly over the finer points of the Lucas storyline, often invoking the vagaries of The Force to explain the unexplainable.

LOL! And I just did that.

Alot of those issues are easily explained away (IMO), but some, such as Leia's comments about her mother, have confused me too. I just figured that Leia was still under the impression at that moment in time that Lady Organa was her real mother, and that she was the one who died when Leia was young. *shrug*

As to the topic, no, I really don't think SW fans (on average) care as much about canon. I'm a big fan of both SW and ST, but care alot more about ST canon.

It might have something to do with the proliferation of info (6 SW films vs 10 ST films and 5 ST series). The more you've seen on screen, the more there is to nitpick.

Also, since SW has a much bigger fanbase than Trek, it's more likely to have a majority of fans who couldn't care less about smaller canon issues. Big breaks in continuity are sure to be complained about, but may not be discussed as often as in Trek (imo).

  8. That's an opinion I've always had as well. The ENT crew just seemed to lack the camaraderie of the other series (of which humor is a big part). I mean, DS9 had it's funny parts, and it was supposed to be the darkest series :waaaa: . Other than a few Trip scenes, one or two T'Pol scenes, and maybe when the Doctor did that defensive thing with his face, I can't remember much comedy in the series...

  9. Considering how bad I expected it to be, I was surprised that I actually enjoyed some of it. It wasn't a good send-off by any means, but it wasn't horrible. I'm going to give it a 7.5.

So... yeh. As a stand-alone ep, it was decent. But as a series finale, it blew. The ENT actors deserved a much better goodbye.
