  1. I will also go with Burton. It seems most of the actors enjoy being in episodes he directs and he generally directs good episodes. I hope he gets a shot at the next Trek movie, he deserves it. He is the only actor-turned-director to direct an episode of each spin-off series.

Burton's best episode? Hmm...Timeless (VGR). I love that ep.

Honourable mention for Similitude (ENT), Cogenitor (ENT), and Dreadnought (VGR).

    My thoughts exactly.

  2. The special effects carried ROTS.

McDiarmid over-acted on several occassions, McGregor was decent (though not overly impressive), and I've usually described Christensen's method of acting as "emotional constipation." No offense. lol.

I mean, they were all decent, especially considering the script they had to work with, but none of the performances were exactly Oscar-worthy.

Best actor in the film? R2-D2!

(And despite all I've just said, I loved ROTS.)

  3. According to my mother, pretty much our entire family has been Baptist or various Christian denominations for generations. Methodist on one side of the family, I think.

I'll only refer to my mother's side, as I don't claim the other half of my family tree anymore for personal reasons...

Grandparents were Baptist, mother was raised Baptist, but I was raised in a Christian church. I consider myself a Baptist now or at least a mix of the two denoms.

TUH: We still had VBS when I was a young kid in the Christian church, and it seems every Christian/Baptist church around here still does. My grandma still has a piece of my old macaroni art sitting on her book shelf. lol. Those were fun times.

Three cheers for pot-lucks! I've had home-cooked meals with Baptists, Christians and Catholics and they're all incredible. My mouth's going to start watering just thinking about it all...

  4. Finish college, get my Master's, (...and if I'm feeling random enough) get my doctorate. Then figure out what the heck I want to do for a living, marry the girl of my dreams, and... "be fruitful and multiply." lol.

Everything else aside, I just want to be happy and live the life God wants me to. Like bysty alluded, the little details along the way aren't that important.

  5. That Escape hybrid looks pretty nice.

A friend of mine just bought a Prius and loves it. I'd love a hybrid for the gas mileage, but I'm not a big fan of the hybrid designs that are out now. The hybrid Accord? Maybe.

Also, Toyota is about to begin production on a hybrid Camry here in Kentucky. That should be a big seller.

  6. There are no winners in this situation, obviously. I feel for the young boy's family. I can't imagine the pain they're going through right now.

However, I do think some of you are being incredibly harsh on the driver without all of the facts. Unfortunately, these things do happen sometimes. That's no excuse, but nonetheless.

There are mothers and fathers who accidentally lose track of their children all the time. That doesn't mean they love them any less. Parents are humans too, and sometimes the consequences are horrific.

For all we know, this van driver is going through tremendous pain right now as well. It's not like he did this on purpose, and he knows he can never replace the life of this little child.

The law affecting the leaving of a child in a car unattended was first made here in Kentucky after a babysitter left a boy in her hot car while she shopped. That's both neglect and murder.

If this man exhibited the same purposeful neglect, then he doesn't deserve my defense. However, don't hang him until you know all the facts. He deserves to be punished, but mistakes, even awful and hard to believe ones, happen.

What I really want to know is why was there a 5 hour gap between the incident and the call to the police...

  7. Hey, ST. :assimilated:

Since you seemed to be going for all the young persons who were regular or recurring in the series, I went ahead and added Icheb as well. He was pretty much the Wesley Crusher of VOY's latter seasons. If you don't want it that way, just say the word.

  8. Actually, I've gotta go with Naomi Wildman. Sure, she could be obnoxious at times, but otherwise she was a fun character (also a good actress on Reba now).

Also liked the alien kid ("Jean-Luc") from TNG's "Future Imperfect", Molly, and Wesley.

Jake and Nog were ok, but Nog annoyed me in the early seasons of DS9, and Jake annoyed me in the latter ones. :assimilated:

  9. I caught the last half of it and it was pretty fun. I'll have to say, though, the one lady you didn't mention from last night's performances was easily the most talented singer. Can't remember her name.....

    For the second performances:

Tiffany did ok on the Kelly Clarkson song. Loverboy was alright. Flock of Seagulls' take on "On the way Down" was... interesting. lol. Arrested Development was cool. I like "Heaven", and they did a good job on it. Glad they won.

I'm too young to have been into 80's music, but I still recognize alot of the songs and bands. :assimilated:

  10. It's only illegal if you get caught.

    328346[/snapback]

No offense, but... no. Whether you get caught or not, it's still illegal. Just because "no one's looking," that doesn't make everything right.

I can see both sides here, but I've got to support the music artists. Songs are the intellectual property of the writers/performers. It is an art form, but that doesn't mean it's supposed to be free. If it is, then someone needs to have a talk with the sculptor of this ugly piece of metal I saw the other day with a $1000+ price tag on it. Some musicians don't want any money and DO promote free downloads, but that's a clear minority. For most, this is their only career, and they deserve compensation.

Do the record labels charge us too much? Absolutely. But I don't think that hunk of metal was worth a thousand bucks either. The price is up to the seller. Just because we like music, that doesn't mean we're automatically entitled to choose how much we should or should not pay.

Will the artists suffer financially? In most cases, not really. They might end up with one less Ferrari in the garage. However, changing this would set a bad precedent. Just because some artists are rich, that doesn't mean they all are.

Believe me; I WANT to download a ton of music. I just want to find a legal means of doing so.

I understand that we should be allowed to do what we want with our own cd's once we purchase them, and agree. If I want to burn some songs for a friend off a cd I bought, I don't see that much harm was done. However, these big sites that illegaly allow hundreds of thousands of downloads cross the line, if you ask me.

But, I just can't really figure out how to condone not compensating an artist for his or her work when it is used. Think of it this way: How would you feel if you came up with the design for some great invention that millions of people would use, yet someone else takes your plans and you don't make a dime? An abstract example, but the correlation fits.

  11. For any family, it depends on the types of parents, family situation, finances (to an extent), time between births, etcetera. As long as a family can truly love and support each child, it's not a big deal imo.

As for me, I can't see myself with any more than 4 kids. Four or fewer seems manageable. Anything more would be too much of a handful, to say the least.
