1. MSU has a pretty good shot at beating KY.

How many games have you said this about now? Oh ye of little faith.

I feel sorry for WV and Zona, but que sera, sera. There's a KY team in the Final Four already, and that's good enough for me. Besides, Zona won in 97. It's the Illini's turn to make a go at it.

Wisconsin is going down... I think. As for UK/Mich St, I won't even risk a prediction.

  2. Well, the first set of Friday games are on right now, but even beforehand I had no doubt that NC St. could take Wisconsin. It's starting to look like it's going to turn out that way.

I'm surprised at how well Mich St. is doing against Duke. Good for them.

Bite your tongue, Jaz :P . We could definitely lose tonight, but I'm still hopeful.

UNC will probably take Nova, no problem :P .

I like all 4 of the teams already in the Elite Eight (and I picked most of them to make it there :P ). This is looking to be an interesting Final Four. :wow:

    Erm... Go Cats!

  3. This thread is about the upcoming final episode of ENT.

Does anyone else have any thoughts and opinions about the finale?

As for me, I'll watch it, but if the script rumors are true, I won't enjoy it. It sounds like an idiotic concept and doesn't give the ENT cast and crew the send-off they deserve.

  4. With the first day of the tourney completed, only two games really surprised me. I really thought UTEP would upset Utah, and I didn't think there was a chance in heck of LSU being upset by UAB (which beat UK in the 2nd round last yr). Part of me saw that Bama loss coming.

Pacific over Pitt tripped me up a little, but not much.

Looking forward to tomorrow. For your sake, I'll root for those Gophers. :wink2:

Is anyone else here watching this tournament? Trust me; it's a lot of fun. :P

  5. Well, I finally did the men's brackets ~~ I misplaced my copy of the women's;  will need to check elsewhere ~~  decided to make two separate ones.  In the first, I have the Final Four teams as:  Illinois, Georgia Tech, UConn, and Syracuse, with the championship going to UConn.  Only one of these is a #1 seed.

In the second bracket, I selected these four finalists :  Arizona, Washington, North Carolina, and Michigan State, with the final winner being Washington .  I have two #1 seeds here.   Its always a question as to who is going to be upset, who is going to be hot, etc.  So what are your predictions?  Does anyone agree with my selections?

BTW, Ace,  I have KY upset by Iowa, or losing to Oklahoma in the third round. Sorry, but no hard feelings? :P

    310642

I have Kentucky losing to Oklahoma in the third round, so no, no hard feelings. :wink2:

Did I mention I have Minnesota getting knocked off in the first round of all but one of my 5 allowable brackets?

Hmm, I don't see Georgia Tech or UConn making return appearances in the Final Four after last yr, but it's possible. Wait, I think I do have UConn getting there in one bracket.

My Final Four... and then some:

Austin region: 4Syracuse or 1Duke (darkhorse = none)

    Albequerque region: 1Washington or 2Wake (darkhorse = 5GA Tech, 6Tex Tech, 4UL)

    Chicago region: 1Illinois or 2OK St. (darkhorse = 3AZ, 6LSU)

    Syracuse region: 1UNC or 2Uconn... or 4Florida (darkhorse = 6Wisconsin, 3KS)

I think Old Dominion could possibly take out MSU in the opener. You know how dangerous those 5/12's can be.

  6. March Madness...

My favorite time of year... :P

Yes, I've filled out my brackets, made my family fill out brackests, and got a few friends to do it as well. I do mine through ESPN's online tournament challenge.

I don't think KY will win, but I hope they at least make it to the Sweet Sixteen.

Can't decide who I think will win. I've pretty much narrowed it down to Illinois, Wake, UNC, OK St., or maybe Syracuse...

    Hmmm... ;)

  7. After reading the above posts of some, all I can say is, so much for the aspect of tolerance among the more religious individuals here.  An aspect that is suppossed to be virtuous.  It's a TV show.  What they are saying isn't going to cause the world to crumble or society to fall apart overnight.  It's a view from the writers to express a point and they have a right to make it as much as anyone.  It may seem unflattering to some but in what way?  I doubt if what is being written as script is going to cause the world to end.  It's a well done show and it's science fiction.  Leave it at that.

    310348

No one said the world would crumble. No one said they didn't have the right to do it. It's just an aspect that not everyone enjoys. People are allowed to have different tastes ;) .

Besides, I can *almost* deal with the "unflattering" religious references. It's the fact that Baltar and #6 are always getting it on :P . I favor more character development over the constant sexuality.

Even if someone completely despised those aspects, however, it would be their prerogative.

  8. I think there's a SeaQuest topic around here somewhere. If not, feel free to start one.

I loved that show when I was younger; aren't there reruns on somewhere?

    Anyways...

    On topic:

Isn't "Poseidon" the name of TrekZone's fan series?

  9. I personally consider the name "newbie" a term of endearment ( all of us have been one at some point), but I haven't noticed any mistreatment of new members here. If so, that's really unfair  . Like VBG said, if that happens, please feel free to let us mods know.

  10. Hmm...

Ferengi - We would've been completely exploited in every way. lol.

Klingons - I can see us like those miners or whatever in ENT's "Marauders."

Romulans - Very interesting. The whole "Mirror Universe" Federation could happen.

I like the Andorian idea. We might've turned out a little differently as they'd have been less likely to hold back as much tech as the Vulcans did.

  11. Deep Space Nine.

He went from an interesting character on TNG who slowly was being developed, into a TERRIFIC character on DS9.

Plus, it was nice to see the development of his marriage and family starting with TNG all the way through DS9. Much respect must go to Keiko O'Brien too. Another superbly written character and flawlessly portrayed.

    What he said.

  12. I know I'm not as active in the trivia chats as I once was (time constraints), but I'll put my two cents in.

Either day works about the same for me, to be completely honest. Sunday might be a little better, but not by much. I will try to get back into the swing of things when I can.

Whatever works best for you, MQ.

  13. I was dumber for having watched it.

That said, it had its moments. "Different" is definitely a good description. At least it was relatively clean. Also, living on a college campus, you almost have to see it since everyone quotes it all the time  .

    "Tina! You want some ham?!"

Let's just say that I won't be watching it again any time soon, but it wasn't a bad movie.

  14. The Duras sisters were definitely fun characters.

Hmm, I guess it depends on your criteria for "best death," be it most emotional, exciting, or whatever else.

Khan's remains a powerful few scenes, but Lal's in TNG's "Offspring" was pretty emotional for a lot of people. I'm not sure; I'll have to think about it.

  15. Well, I think that is carrying things a bit far. Are you sure they are serious, TUH?

You know, I am from Indiana originally. Indiana high school basketball all-stars play Kentucky high school all-stars every year. It is a long-standing rivalry. ( Actually I don't know if they still play...I just presume they do.)  It's been more than 30 years since high school for me, and I still care about Indiana beating Kentucky in basketball. And I would be happy if Indiana or Purdue were in the top ten college polls, and not Kentucky.

But I am not crazy. If I was that serious about it, then I would be mad at Ace ( a generation and a half younger than me raised in the tradition of Kentucky basketball) for being a Kentucky fan. Does that make sense?

People sometimes confuse the words rivalry and emnity. Rivals compete, and live to compete another day. :P  Some people need a reality check. ( Indiana University just has not been the same without Bobby Knight. If "we" ---I haven't lived in Indiana for a quarter of a century---still had Bobby Knight, IU would be in the top ten for sure. :)  )

And they made the movie "Hoosiers," not Kentuckians.

Seriously, TUH, I am sorry you are having to deal with this. Maybe they will turn out to be a little more sensible than they currently seem to be.

    309217

    :P Indeed.

(Though I wasn't necessarily raised in the tradition; I was pretty much the first member of my family to even care about UK sports.)

Rivalries exist, of course, but to take offense for such reasons as TUH described is idiotic, imo. There are people in other areas that actually HATE my team, for whatever reasons, and take their opinions too far. It's just a sport; it's not meant to be taken so seriously.

Take Kentucky/Louisville, for instance (sorry, mj; IU is 'small fries' to us now :) -j/k). There was talk of a civil war here when Pitino went to L-ville, but it was only hype. I have friends who support L-ville (though they go to UK), and even though we joke around, we're accepting of each other's teams-of-choice. Heck, I even support multiple teams; I'm sitting here rooting for Florida (vs Bama) as I type.

The fact is, sports rivalries are supposed to be lighthearted. If someone lets their support for a team turn into a hatred for the opposition, they're ignoring the true spirit of the game. It's sad, really.

For you, TUH, I don't know what to suggest. I wish there were an easier way to know if they were truly offended or just playing around. If they were (which would be absolutely ridiculous!), it may be best to hold back the Seminole comments for the time being. Hmm...

This is hilarious!  I graduated from the University of Kentucky and I have two favorite teams ... U.K. and whoever is playing I.U. I'm thinking about switching to University of Louisville, though, because U.K. ain't been the same since Pitino left!

    309390

    Bite your tongue. :P

  16. I actually vote "Nah. Too much trek is a bad thing."

I like it the way it is right now with 4 Treks a day on Spike. If Spike, SciFi, or some other network could at least play one or two eps of each series every day, that would be cool. Do I think an entire network playing Trek all day every day would succeed? Not really. Only the die hard fans would watch (which is too small of an audience to keep an entire channel running), and even then oversaturation could become an issue. Even I don't watch DS9 and TNG on Spike every day. If I've seen an ep once or twice and have it on tape, I'm not all that interested in watching it over and over again (unless it's something like "Yesterday's Enterprise" or "The Best of Both Worlds" :P ).

As for the DVD sets, they're too freaking expensive B) . We pay for UPN through our Dish satellite now for only an extra 2 bucks or so every month. That's incredibly cheap compared to the sets. At least now we have almost every episode on VHS.
