  1. i wanted people to know it was  not me.

and not to take credit for it.

I know, and that's very humble of you  . I was just letting you know that you don't have to pull out of the contest, but it's up to you.

  2. I respectfully ask that you remove my avatar.

as i did not do it myself. It was done on request

by a good friend I met here. I can not take credit

for something i did not do.

Very few people made their own, Odo. People are just voting for which avatar they like the best. RC also made Hang's, and edited mine so that I could properly use it. :) I nominated you (and Gamera: you're welcome :) ) because I like that avatar and thought RC did a great job with it.

    Now as for my vote:

I'm afraid he'll beat me  , but I just have to vote for TrekDude's.

  3. My favorite series were VOY and TNG. I also liked DS9 and feel it was a strong series.

    Now as for the weakest...

I did enjoy ENT, to an extent. TOS had its moments, but it probably ranks as my least favorite. However, I definitely think ENT was the weakest of the five series.

  4. I forgot that I'd already voted in this poll, but I think I've changed my mind. Spock is still an amazing character, but I've really grown to like and respect Sarek over the years. I love all his scenes, especially in the movies, "Sarek", and "Unification". I need to re-watch his TOS appearances.

  5. Carey died in Friendship One. He died in the alternate Before and After timeline.

Relativity and Fury were both flashbacks so Carey didn't appear in present time between State of Flux (Season 1) and Friendship One (Season 7).

A Sev Trek comic strip joked that Carey got out and walked because Voyager was taking so long.

I did remember the "Relativity" timeframe wrong in reference to "Friendship One." I still could've sworn he was at least mentioned in an ep after the character's death...

    *Must.. rearead.. interview*. lol.

Dang! That Ayala was everywhere! I hadn't even noticed that til now. Since he was in command-red in a few episodes, could that have been who Dark Reality was referring to?

That link did take me to another interesting link with the recurring characters:

    Ayala

    Azan

    Reginald Barclay

    Borg Queen

    Braxton

    Joseph Carey

    Doctor Chaotica

    Jal Culluh

    Hogan

    Icheb

    Michael Jonas

    Mezoti

    Owen Paris

    Q

    Rebi

    Seska

    Lon Suder

    Deanna Troi

    Vorik

    Naomi Wildman

    Samantha Wildman

    Lewis Zimmerman

    link

Of those, the only ones I peronally consider the primary recurring characters are Naomi, Seska and Icheb. Carey would be 4th or 5th on that list. He may have been in fewer episodes than Ayala, but he actually had storylines and dialogue.

  6. The original BSG was WAY too hokey for my taste  . I may not like every aspect of the new BSG (mainly Baltar and #6), but at least it keeps me entertained.

As for a movie? I'm not sure about the timing. If it's completely separate from the new series, I can't say I'd support it. Having different plots shown at or near the same time may have worked for other franchises, but it would just seem odd to me.

  7. (according to MemoryAlpha)

Josh Clark as Lieutenant Joe Carey:

    VOY:"Caretaker"

    VOY:"Parallax"

    VOY:"Prime Factors"

    VOY:"State of Flux"

    VOY:"Relativity"

    VOY:"Fury"

    VOY:"Friendship One"

    mentioned in "Before and After"

In a couple of these episodes, he had sizeable speaking parts. He even apeared in the show after he was killed off ("Relativity"). He obviously wasn't an integral part of the show, but I think seven episodes qualifies him as one of the most used non-regulars.

I read an interview with him in :Star Trek: The Magazine" one time that was pretty interesting. I should go unbury that issue from my closet.

  8. Actually, I don't see that as any sort of plot hole. If you look at it from another perspective, VOY focused on a few more minor characters than the other series did, so it all works out.

Samantha Wildman's husband is K'tarian(sp?), and was back in the Alpha quadrant. She was pregnant with Naomi when Voyager was lost in the Delta quad.

Naomi was pretty much on screen more than Wesley was on TNG. To me, Naomi was practically the final main cast member. As for your other comment, taking the time to see what Naomi was up to every time Voyager gets into trouble is unfeasible; Janeway has over a hundred lives to look after and Naomi is just one of them.

Blue guy = Chell (a Bolian). He was featured prominently in "Learning Curve", and later offered to be the new chef in Neelix's absence.

Also, Lieutenant Carey was featured in more than a few eps, making him one of the most prominent recurring characters.

There were a few other characters that were mentioned in multiple episodes, such as the Delaney sisters, but not many. I'm afraid I'm not sure who commander-looking guy is. If you gave me an episode name I might be able to figure it out.

  9. Again...

Just because they don't affect you, that doesn't mean they can't affect someone else who may have a pre-existing condition of mental or emotional instability. Video games don't make people violent, but that's not to say they don't contribute in some way (in a few cases), and they definitely desensitize.

No matter what, the responsibility falls on the parents much more than the gaming companies. If you don't think your kid can handle the violence and take it in stride, then don't buy them the game. Plain and simple.

You at least have to admit that there are games out there that a 7 or 8 year old shouldn't be playing, right? It's all about using discretion and knowing what is or isn't good for your kid.

  10. We just got back from seeing it and... well... it was a movie.

To paraphrase Bart Simpson, how does something both suck and blow at the same time?

Good effects. Decent acting. Crappy dialogue. Worse plot.

OK, it wasn't awful. But like AE said, it left way too many unanswered questions and had a bunch of tiny plot holes.

For one: How was that guy's video camera still working at the beginning?!?

A respectable blockbuster, but I don't have any desire to see it again.

    5/10

  11. Congrats!

I understand what you mean about the parked cars. When you first start driving, things seem a whole lot narrower for some reason. One of the first times I drove was on a really narrow road, and I could swear I was just about to fall off the side of it. ...So I hugged the inner line and drove about 30 miles per hour  .

Don't worry; it'll pass with experience.

  12. Does anyone else occasionally re-read old topics that they made? I browsed through some of mine just now, it gave me a really weird feeling of deja vu but it was also really interesting. It was almost like reading a time capsule and seeing how you've changed as a person as time passed, some of them were from more then two years ago.

    So, anyone else?

    336654[/snapback]

I've done the same thing, NB  . It's interesting to see how things like my posting style have changed over time.

  13. Not really, but I do understand how it can happen. If someone has a friendly-sounding screen name, you expect them to be friendly, and vice-versa.

Actually, I have done this from time to time. It's not a bad thing; we all just have to make sure we get to know people before letting in the misconceptions.

  14. I liked him, but not all the time. He was annoying in his earliest episodes, and brooding Wes got on my nerves in "Journey's End".

He was a good character in between, especially when he just acted like a regular Ensign up at the helm (like in "The Best of Both Worlds" and other eps).

  15. I don't have the time to read the article right now, but I wouldn't just dismiss the effects of violent video games. They affect different people differently. I may not want to go out and commit a crime after playing some Halo or something, but I've known a few kids who should never be allowed to play violent games.

Since we can't always know how emotionally stable a kid is, I think the age ratings and requirements should be followed. Especially if you're talking about a game where you can beat hookers with golf clubs or something...? (at least that's what I heard about one of the Grand Theft Autos  ).

  16. I'll have to give it some more thought, but the first ones that come to mind for me are "America The Beautiful", "God Bless America", "The Star-Spangled Banner", and "Letters From War" by Mark Schultz.
