  1. Any album by William Shatner is great for laughs. His singing is just so terrible!I've never heard Nimoy sing,so I can't say anything about him....Nichelle Nichols is a wonderful singer,as is Jeri Ryan,Robert Picardo, and Nana Visitor....but William Shatner,OMG,the horror.

Hell is an eternity of listening to Shatner and that rapper Biz Markie (Nah,even the devil ain't THAT mean spirited) ;)

  2. I don't feel that nuclear torpedoes would be any more dangerous to the crew of the NX-01 than they are for today's submariners.Accidents aboard nuclear submarines are very, very rare and more often than not are never related to the nuclear payloads. Also the distances between the ships in space are significant, usually hundreds of kilometers if not more,so damage to the torpedo launching vessel would likely not be significant.

Nuclear torpedoes make sense to me,and they would tie in to TOS,like has already been mentioned in this thread.War and killing are barbaric regardless of the sophistication of the weapons being used.

    Agreed.

Go for it Captain Archer!Nuke them Rommie $#@!'s! ;)

  3. Well,TOS did mention that the Earth-Romulan wars were fought with atomic weapons, didn't it?I'm pretty sure it did.So nukes would make since to me.Hey,how's this for barbaric....maybe both sides used orbital nukes on the populations of each others worlds?

  4. His father died, and he has taken it pretty hard.He has vanished from every message board we used to regularly visit, with the exception of a post here and a post there, usually posted in the a.m.

He's even stopped e-mailing me very often, and we used to trade e-mails a couple of times a day.Last I heard from him was 4 days ago,and my e-mails to him in that time have gone unanswered.

If I don't hear from him by this weekend,I'm going to give him a phonecall.I'm sure he's fine, just still a little down.He was very close to his father.

  5. Yeah,I thought that was a lousy call at the end, too. But Rice did brake the rule.I saw a couple of blown calls last night (like the facemask call that was overturned once the ref saw the replay on the big monitor in the stadium...of course, that was illegal. Then the head ref claimed that one of the other ref's had simply overruled the one who had tossed the flag. I found that hard to believe).Still,it was a helluva fourth quarter.I'll be talking to my buddies here at home about this all week, and maybe even next.

  6. REDNECK ROMULANS

  7. Oh my God,what a game!Did you watch that? That Colts comeback was the most beeeeaa-utiful thing I have seen in years! :( :( :wow:

The Colts made history. No NFL franchise has EVER came back from 21+ points down with 4 minutes or less to go in the 4th quarter.

    How about that on-side kick?

I am still charged up from that game, and I don't even like the Colts or Bucs!

    Whewwww

  8. My avatars usually only mean that I found those pictures funny at the time I was using them. The one I have now,is of myself about 5-or-6 years ago.It was taken in South Dakota, during a visit to an old friend's ranch.

    Date: 2 May 2002

Summary: Occasionally brilliant, but often predictable and standard trek.

While Voyager does have a number of brilliant episodes, the majority are extremely predictable and very much bog standard trek. I sometimes wonder if the producers have a few story templates to use when they run out of ideas.

    Example Template:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Voyager is flying along in space.

    2. Voyager discovers planet/anomaly/ship.

    3. There is some sort of problem with planet/anomaly/ship.

    4. Voyager's crew solves the problem with the help of some extremely lame techno-babble and everyone is happy.

    5. Voyager continues on it's merry way to the next predictable episode.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

As far as the characters go, they are extremely under-developed. The only way to tell apart a season one episode from a season seven episode is Janeway's hair style and whether Kes or 7of9 is in it. Some characters also do complete backflips in their behaviour and ideas from episode to episode. In some episodes Janeway refuses to break the prime directive to even the smallest degree, but in other episodes she doesn't think twice about breaking it. A good example of this type of attitude change is the way she refused to share transporter technology with the Kazon, but later in the series she shares holodeck technology with the Hirogen. While the other characters don't have quite as many contradictions, they also aren't given the opportunity to develop contradictions because they are often just there to support Captain "Inconsistent" Janeway.

They also killed off some great story possibilities by making the ex-Maquis crew fit in so well. There was so much potential for some great stories filled with tension between the Starfleet and Maquis crew, but instead they turned Voyager into one big happy family after only a few episodes.

Basically I think Voyager is the weakest of the Star Trek series. It only has minimal character development, it is very predictable and has some of Star Trek's worst ever episodes (eg: the great Tom Paris turns into a giant catfish episode :-) ). However, Voyager is Star Trek and it has its moments of brilliance. Overall it is still a good series and is much better than a lot of the other rubbish that has been produced for TV.

Found on IMDB do you find this review to be a fair appraisal of the Star Trek Voyager series?

Totally agree with you.I thought Voyager was going to be awesome when it debuted. It had the potential to be Roddenberry's Wagontrain to the stars, more than any series before it....a ship and crew all alone so far away from home(and a mixed Starfleet/Maquis crew at that!),with Neelix as a sort of alien Sacagawea, leading them through unknown space. But it SUCKED!For all the reasons you stated, and then some.I got sooo tired of shows that focused on Seven and The Doctor at the end! :look: And poor Chakotay got shafted when it came to character development beyond the first season or two,as did Neelix.

Tom Paris should have never lost his badboy attitude, and reckless charm.

Neelix should never have been relegated to the kitchen, with less and less air time.

Seska was a great "face"(good guy)character as a Maquis. They shouldn't have made her into a demented loser of a villain....that was just wrong.Martha Hackett deserved better.

They should have found a way to keep Kes around.I loved the character.

Harry Kim should have been promoted at some point by Janeway, and Kim needed more air time.

The stories should have been more daring and not so formulaic.Take a clue from Lexx,or (damn,I forget the name of the show....)one of the other sci-fi shows and take Trek in a new direction every once in a while.

They could have done so much to improve Voyager.

  10. This past week I have visited the various Star Trek series forums on a daily basis and have not seen many new topics posted,or ones that i cared to contribute too. While I have noticed a jump in the amount of posts in off-topic and risa. Are we running out of Trek topics to discuss?I tried hard to think of something to post as topics in each Trek series forum, but could not think of something that had not already been posted. :P

  11. I find it disturbing that Presidential candidates were demanding he be fired over these remarks, which weren't remarks stating that Race got him his job nor were they remarks stating that his race makes him less of a player or person. Just that the media was giving unwarranted attention and credit to him because of his race. It was an opinion, that's why ESPN hired him. To give his opinions.

The question in my mind here is, where is freedom of speech and freedom of the press? Where is tolerance? Where is open debate?

Yeah, those are pretty much my feelings on the whole deal.As soon as I heard Rush, images of Jimmy The Greek popped up in my head and I just sort of thought,"Oh,my God,here we go again..."And,it seems I was right in thinking that. Why can we have a film geared toward a black audience called "White men Can't Jump",and that's fine, but a white man can't mildly criticize a black football player. It may seem like these two things aren't in the slightest connected. But to me they are.Truth is,blacks can make desperaging remarks about whites and get away with it,but if a white man says anything negative, then bang he's a "racist".
