  1. Seriously, though, re 'Khan', I was at Trekcore yesterday, and they have put up these fantastic-looing screencaps, in HD version, of the film It looks terrific that way. I have never seen it so, actually my vid collection is woefully small, for ex, but to the point, it reminded me that yes, it was a major film-and worthy, to be sure!-of inclusion in my best of..I guess I have seen it so many times over the years, that, well...anyhow, it has to me among the best space battles in the films-not that this element is the be-all-end-all, or should be..but everyone remembers the Mutara Nebula sequences, and before. A fave shot for me was when 1701 is cruising far above Reliant in the huge gas cloud....and of course....ENTERPRISE coming up over the other vessel from behind...

The Mutara Nebula sequence is great. That exchange between Spock and Kirk about two demensional thinking is perfect as they drop down below the Reliant then reappear behind it. Plus the trick of getting Reliant to lower its shields. Plus one of Khans crew suggesting that they go off with the Genesis device and the Reliant and Khan replying "No, he tasks me! He tasks me and I shall have him! Great dialog and action from a great movie!

Yep, that was Joaqim, his second in command-played by the same actor who guested a few years later on TNG's ''Symbiosis''...I liked also the scene in which Kirk visits Spock in his quarters after realizing there's a problem afoot...and our beloved Vulcan friend utters those now famous words,'I always have been your friend', echoed in full, in the end-scenes with him....and of course, we get to see that legendary friendship begin anew in 'Star Trek'. My, all the great adventures, and moments those two have had, and will have...

  2. See, it is worse than being tossed out an airlock! Thanks, Stephen..I think. Ugh. RIIIIPLEY!!!! Help!! LOL. 3. Did luv it when the boulder strikes Gorny, unfazed. I will say, though- I recently ref'd the ep to a friend, and said, heck, Kirk could simply have OUTRUN his opponent, slow as he was!! Heh heh...still like ARENA...

  4. Oh, SORRY-right!Forgot. Yes, it detected their brain patterns....as said, still neat to have seen it. I always loved tie-ins in the series to TOS..such as 'Flashback', or 'Trials and..'

  5. Gorn for me. Yes-guy in rubber suit. Still like it. Love the alien species. The Space Amoeba-well, sure. Liked that ep a lot. Good drama, with Spock giving himself for the sake of the crew, and Bones' quips at the end...one of those classic Enterprise vs. huge threat eps...the Horta should throw in , a well-written episode...

  6. Even still, the U.T. should be able to translate it. It can understand Klingon or Vulcan but not English spoken with a Russian accent? Yeah, I believe that...

On the other hand, it would explain why a San Francisco cop couldn't understand him.

The original U.T. also reminds me of a big "Beta Capsule"... if you remember what a Beta Capsule is...

Of course I do. It translates Japanese into Engrish.

Holy Cow!DO I!? LOL-cool, Van Roy. Thanks for the Ultraman image. I used to come home from junior high back in the day, and watch the big silver guy on tv battle the latest monster..ah, the Science Patrol...yeah, sure-by our adult standards, ugh..but it has a fond place in my memory, as does Godzilla-again, many a Saturday afternoon ''Science Fiction Cinema'' outings at home with the Big Green Lizard-better than the Matt Broderick flick still, to this Classic fan....re the translator...chest-clipped devices were worn by for ex the Coalition reps in council during Season Four of Enterprise..a much smaller device than in TOS-but, could be argued, that, by Kirk's time, of course, the Federation had many more mems, and had encountered countless species by then...

  7. I've seen all of them from all of the series including TAS. I've recently been watching the remastered Season 1 TOS episodes on NetFlix, I find myself saying "Oh my god, look at that!" when I see a lot of the new graphics. Very cool!
Got that right, VGB!! Infinite kudos to the gang who remastered, and tweaked our beloved TOS-with love in every effort.AWESOME FX.

  8. It for me would have to be 'Star Trek'...it's where my mind and focus is, so...but in past Treks, I'd have to rank them ''Nemesis'', ''Undiscovered Country''...I should probably throw in ''Khan''....or get tossed out an airlock. Heh heh. It does have those great battles, and high drama...VERY high drama-as in the ending...thankfully undone!!!

  9. Well, I don't know about frequency-but practically everyone who knows me well, knows I am a definite Trekkie. My besty friend at times would say, referencing his daughter, if she spied some ST program, that there I was!''....

  10. It's too bad, that some very sophisticated aliens couldn't say, drop by Talos Four, encounter Pike and Vina, and offer to transfer their cortical marixes into android forms, and give the two a ride back to Federation space, where they could take up a new life, and new adventures together..maybe it sounds silly, or contrived, but it's a thought...I have read that Jeffrey was, according to someone on the series, a nice man...RIP....his Pike was in the pilot rather aloof, in a way...if a fine officer, and strong leader. We did see the human side in his interactions with Vina...passionate, potentially, and tender to her... I have two PocketTOS novels which feature the earlier crew-interesting glimpses into Pike, Jose', and co...one could do any number of books about this crew. I thought Bruce Greenwood did a good job as Pike in ST...and glad to see the character so far, spared his cohort's tradgedy...Susan Oliver was, again, rest her soul, a lovely lady.Guess she'll forever be the first 'green girl'...

  11. As a boy, my mother was always mindful of having me get myself indoors when a storm seemed imminent, and as an adult, I respect nature....it is always best to take care, wherever you are, to find shelter, when you begin to hear thunder..a little reminder,' Hey stay sharp'....and it's also not a bad idea, to keep in mind one's electronics gear as well in regards to protecting your investments, be it tv's, whatnot..certainly with a surge protector, but there's no substitute for simply unplugging something-including a computer power source-if for a bit...and watching when, and how long you are online if a storm appoaches...

  12. The question does get asked, no doubt, regarding folks all the time in the States, who live in flood plains..but then, not all of us are born and grow up somewhere like that...and it as to be fair as much their identity-of-place, as anyone else's....hope Angela fared all right...
