Not directly related, but the battleship U.S.S. North Carolina, permanently docked at Wilmington, has long been a WWII-derived tourist site; I saw it as a kid, and stilll have the old pics my parents took before the big guns...N.C. native here, as well...

Yep, Harry was driven in this one...but, he always was one of the stalwarts in wanting to get home, in contrast to Tom, who, for a long time, was actually relieved to be away from the Alpha Quadrant, for several obvious reasons. Kim's mindset stands out for me in that ep.No doubt Garrett enjoyed the showcasing of his character here.

It might be cool to have them as collectors items, as it stands right now though all of my 'hobby' money goes into keeping STARTREKFANS.NET online. I think if I were to start collecting Star Trek toys though I'd start with the ones I had as a kid (and wish I still had):

 

I had the Mego superhero action figures when I was a kid!....thing is, at some point, the bands that kept the arms together snapped....and boy, did that wreck my playtime!!Argh. I don't even have the 'remains' now...along with my G.I.Joes. Dang it!Now, those were well-built figures, brother! (I had three, one with 'hair' and beard...)

'Preserver',a Shatner novel, ghost-written by Judy and Gar Reeves-Stevens, is for the uninitiated a tale of Kirk vs. his Mirror conterpart, still alive as is he in the future century....it has a scene at the end, in which Zephrem Cochrane is holding a coin, and thus the metaphor of chance-i.e., quantum probabilities, I suppose, and he appaprently chooses to use a flip, to decide whether or not to tell the Vulcans about what he has just encountered ...and therein is the paradox of realities...an interesting way to ponder in print the 'what ifs'....

Judy and Gar are faves of mine. Good writers, who I was glad to see on ENT last season. 'Where No Man' has a cool premise as well. I would like to see Gary Mitchell-likely an ensign in Abramstrek-in the next film.

I like my TOS, but I plan to spend cash, rather, on the new film DVD. I have very few DVDS as it is, anyhoo.

Nice addition. I have never seen a cutaway of a Marauder anywhere. They probably have a targ pen there, too..for those Klingon colonies with an ecosystem where the critters can't roam and breed safely....after all, in business-ya have ta take advantage of the markets when they show up!Or somesuch Rule....thanks for the diagrams...

Good episode IMO. A touching end scene,between Picard and a certain Vulcan..and it had Denise back on TNG, as well!!

Apologies, to anyone who listened, as I did, hoping for some Star Trek highlights, but, was still an interesting glimpse into how he got his start in the business, and some of his acting methods...

I enjoyed Dark Angel as well. Micheal finally got himself a steady-and popular gig, on 'NCIS'..and Jessica seems to have done all right. I remember Nana Visitor having a role there later on, as well...

I have to say, that Ensign Beedril's comments, fir ex, about Young Jim's promotion straight to Captain does go so strogly against 'logic'..certainly, in the real world, no young military officer, even the finest examples of bravery, and sacrifice, would warrant such a promotion, I should think, from an initial rank. However, as we know, Trek is fiction-albeit great fiction...Jim has, as we know, in the original reality acheived something quite amazing, in retaining at least the captaincy, after having broken several Starfleet rules,some BIG ones...and been demoted...all part of a 'logical' plot to get Kirk back to where he truly belonged, granted...Young Jim accomplished the same 'world saving' objective here, if at a much younger age, and first-rank......but I have been able to set this issue aside, along with others, and still enjoy, and embrace the film, as many original-Trek fans have. As to what Bakula Babe said about being in other words skittish, one could say, about bringing upo the film, I understand what it's like to feel that way in general about a subject. If there have been too-strongly worded comments, then I think the thing to bear in mind, as always is, 'How would we feel if someone said this or that, using a specific word, or term, too harshly, about something we like...just a thought, gang, to ponder...whatever the subject. And, yes, I too am eagerly awaiting the dvd..especially the Klingons vs Narada!!!

I am a member at Roddenberry.com, and for a good while prior, and some time after the premiere, there was DEFINITELY discussion...and often heated, in many cases. I will say this film certainly has created a lot of talk-one way or the other. I do believe that it's had a fairly decent degree of discussion ,but I see your point, A. I have noted the falloff, as well, though I don't know if it's really been a personal point of regret,really, not to disparage your sentiment. The heated debates, I think are as well to die down..to me, by now, you have either seen it, or you haven't, you like, or love it..or not so much. Everyone has settled into their 'camp', if I may use the term, and, well, there you go..? But do I personally like talking about what I have-and with no negative context at all-labeled casually, 'Newtrek'...sure! I would welcome anyone who wants to discuss the film pm me, or the like....chast mutual appreciations of this or that, etc...it's surely a part of my own Trekfandom....

I think that's tricky territory to explore, given Two's huge popularity with fans....to me, I do tend to in some respects look at the Abrams universe as still, coinciding in many ways directly with the original; not everything need unfold differently than it did before-though it is fun, and creatively intriguing to explore some things-dependent on what one considers ' untouchable' or the opposite...I was just reading my new ish of ST Magazine today, and, if dated a bit news-wise, but not terribly so by now, Khan does seem to be, and in this or that net atricle with the writing team, a considerable interest...but it's early, yet. I read this am something about it perhaps the script being completed by December....? With a release date in 2011?...as said, quite as bit of the basic sets are now there, the key actors in place, etc...we'll see. But I would think the writers would want to consider leaning towards a more 'thought-philosophically-centered' film next time...with a good dose of action, and adventure, the mix that works in Trek....it will be expected, certainly by fans longer with the franchise, in many cases...

Hah! You know, Stephen, I have wondered the same thing...and why not? It's perfectly plausible; there is a canon bio for Jon, in the Mirror Universe Enterprise episode, P 2....a Defiant computer screen readout, which gives details about Archer's life after the Enterprise missions, but nothing to contradict such a possibility...I I think it would make a nice little link in a story concept...
