I had actually thought about doing a hand-off to you, if permitted....yes, I am pretty lazy about this...my regular writing to do, new ideas...we'll see. THANKS for the kudos, nonetheless. Just saw your post today, in fact. Sorry.

Whatever makes life easier! Hey, anybody remember, or miss those Ronco commercials...? Grin.

In terms of rescources, and assets, I would think that S-31 might have the upperhand there...more sytems to tap into for recruitment, a wide variety of species with various skillsets, and abilities....Betazoids, for ex....and from what non-canon views I have of UFP territory, it's definitely greater than the Empire's....the latest Enterprise novel gives us another glimpse into the world of Harris' contemporaries...as a certain character works behind-the-scenes with them to stop the Romulan threat of the 2100's..but, to me, in terms of sheer ferocity....the Tal Shiar is right up there. S31 may be willing to push the limits-but, at their core, they were brought about by a socially-evolving postwar Earth culture, and there has to be something said for relative 'human values'. so to speak....the Romulans have little at all compunctions to me by comparison. And they have beem at their game no doubt since the Empire was founded, a LONG time back...

...helps to run from Klingons, Romulans..and Breen with a very bad ice cream headache...

I saw the film again Thursday, and as I believe Van Roy Ref'd, the cuts of the action were coming quick, but it seemed to me at least, that the woman was pulled out through what looked-for that fleeting second-from a corridor....and, I think, yes, in the near-vicimity of a phaser emplacement, or turret, to use the term being bandied about herein...as to whether that's germaine to the question of whether or not Kelvin was using them..who knows? It wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility, to have manned stations-like the TOS Enterprise as in 'Balance'...(Tilll then we just thought, Sulu hits a control, and ZING!), which I rather preferred on the ship, but, comparing it to a naval vessel of gunship status, size-wise, well, I guess that would not be so 'illogical'....and make sense. Just a thought, but, given the 'unconventional' take for J.J. and his crew for this new Trek outing, it wouldn't necessarily be a suprise-no criticism thus intended-to hear that the defenses were so outlaid with manned turrets....precursors to a more modernized system, certainly, and surely done for the new 1701....BTW, and not to crtique, or 'censor' this train of thought-post as ye like, gang no problem-but, I do hope some of you might express some thoughts re the main question, at a later point, eh? Nice, though, to keep my thread alive! (Hope it will be so..)

Went back a few days ago. Loved seeing 1701 again, and realized, as Young Kirk and Spock did their derring-do on the Narada, ''So it begins'' I said to myself, hoping my friend whom I went with heard me. We both gushed as 'she' rose up at Titan....AWESOME MOMENT I keep referencing..wonderful music!, etc. It's part of MY trekfandom, at any rate...the music was for ex a terrific device to build to the revealing of the new design....
-
I was watching the film again yesterday, and in the bar scene, was briefly thinking about ' So, this is how one could suggest popular music sounds in the 2200's'...
-
Add two more tickets, gang! I, and a good friend/fellow trekkkie went yesterday-his for the fourth time-albeit he's had a few complaints, but no biggie-and myself, the second. Wish the DVD would come out sooner, than so late this year....got to see 1701 rise up at Titan again!YAY!
-
The creature moments don't really stand out for me, in any case...but Spock meeting Young Jim-yes. Guess i'll be seeing that again in a few hours, if all goes to plan....

Okay, okay, let's not take the quote, without being in its entirety....!Grin. Heck, somedays, I think I AM from another reality-but then, I'd have a very big place for a vacation!!

I have it as well. Some nice B and W photos therein as well, promo shots, etc...interesting, to see how Gene arrived at his creations of the Captains we now know so well..and therein also is a sketch of the ship which might have been the Enterprise-but became another, if non-canon, starship-and of a past Trekera. Plus, one gets a size comparison between the 1701, and the aircraft carrier...I got mine for chickenfeed at a used book store. Also have the entire James Blish to-paperback editions of all the TOS episodes...again, found at a great price-if no doubt multi-reprint, but who cares, at a used book outlet...the las one found for me by my mother at a church yard sale. Boy, was I thrilled!

I have been going with the premise, that this film-which I have chosen to accept as a fan-and thought was a good film-and as a longtime TOS fan, as was my 'first love'-takes place in a Quantum Reality, seperate from our so-familiar TOS series reality...which as I understood the writers' intent being to allow this to exist, alongside with the first, and thus, not erasing the one we all know so well. I do agree with VBG, that the preponderance of ST series-films utilizes the notion that I describe it this way, it's like a ruler-ex., Kirk and co. jump from inch ten, in the future, to inch three, in the past, and then back....I have read, if I understand it right, that this idea may not gibe with some interpretations, of what time-travel could and would do..But, even if that were the case, the PERCEPTION, EVEN if the reality of Trektemporal travel WERE so in fact, is that it's all occuring on a single line. It's the way I've always looked at it in ST in all past forms. 'That's the way it is' in ST as we've known it..and one can't be blamed for preferring it thusly. It did take a little effort deciding to accept the Kirk, Spock, and co. in this film as 'others' yet in basic the same, in most ways...but once I did, fine, it's just another aspect of Trek to me...however, I would NOT care for a concept which wipes out TOS, and my beloved future preferences, etc...but it's not how I assume this to be here. Surely, the writers, if nothing else, would know better, no matter how much a 'fresh take ' they wanted for the franchise, to eliminate all the years of tv and film events....Even if this were another timeline, as long as the first remains, then well, fine.A friend of mine and I were discussing at length these very issues of quantification the other night;he'd seen the film three times, and as of this writing,we plan to perhaps go see it together...he made the comment-and the thought has occurred to me, also, before, that, of all the premises they might have picked, if from the perspective of the general public, WHY time travel? That is, as posited in the film...which Trek fans or SF-minded folks would better relate to-if not agree upon, but, yes, it was to allow for another take on TOS....whether one is entirely comfortable with the concept..or not.

I'd be curious to read that article, or mention about possibly 'resetting' the timeline back to as it was...where is it?

.....The Borg Sphere was traversing the Transwarp Conduit, bound for the heart of the Collective, when it happened. All sensors, and system analyitics showed all was normal, the vessel en route to join a cluster of cubes, which were engaged in an intense conflict with a species recenly encountered , that, like itself, had designs upon certain sections of its home region......Without warning, the passage fell into chaos, the conduit twisting and warping in ways, which its underlying physics would give no cause for. All throughout the huge craft, an alert arose, each of the drones within moving to both anaylze, and correct the sudden instability-which, after a rapidly-executed diagnostic sweep, showed that its Transwarp Core was in perfect operating order. Therefore, it was not the ship at fault..but some external force, working against the Sphere in its incredibly-rapid transit across the breadth of the galaxy...a decision-equally fast, and sure, was made-...DEACTIVATE CORE went out the directive to the appropraite Engineering Drone-Cluster. AND TRANSMIT DISTRESS SIGNAL TO NEAREST ASPECT OF THE COLLECTIVE. The technician-Drones complied-too late. No sooner had the order been issued, than conditions outside the vehicle worsened, by orders of magnitude. The greenish-tinged environment became even more twisted, and corrupted....and the stress upon the cube, interlinked via its core to the effect, was more than it could bear...and it began to come apart, torn by forces which would have shredded a lesser vessel even more rapidly.........hull sections, drones, conduits, intricate data-relay, and other systems became so much detritus-scatttered into what was now a maelstrom......spiralling away..down into an aperture, which opened up inside the useless conduit-to suck through it the remnants of a mighty starfaring object.........................Sunrise, over a blue-white planet...or, what once had been such a place. Anyone who may have happened by this globe several years past, would not have recognized the scene which now spread out across its visible surface-dotted, in countless areas, with the blackness, the terrible scars..of a war-and the last one, presuably, to rock this world...home of humankind. But there had come a day, when arose another sentience here...and this intelligence, born from the mind of man himself, decided, that it did not desire to share this planet with humanity-indeed, that it wished this troublesome, inefficient, internally-conflicted, and chaotic species to simply..vanish. And so, with both the vast network that grew out of something called Skynet, and the technology which was spun forth from its core matrix, it began its campaign against these annoying creatures who gave it birth. Oneday soon, it was utterly certain, Skynet alone would dominate Earth...forever. Now, above that war-torn landscape, something took place. Amidst the dark, and stars of space, there opened up...a portal-or a hole-in the very fabric of what Einstein would call 'space-time'-and here, the term was far more applicable than he, or those who followed after him might have envisioned...for waht emerged had very little to do, with this small solar system, in a spot somewhere between the core of the Milky Way Galaxy, and its great outer spiral arms....that, not long ago, a certain object had effortlessy strode forth upon............And, in orbit of the New Earth, circled any number of devices-the eyes of the vast cybernetic-machine entity, Skynet...ever watching, everywhere...including the heavens about this world.........TARGETING SYSTEM INITIATED one of those bits of technology spoke to the appropriate superior Netlink....OBJECTS DETECTED-NEAR-PLANETARY ORBIT-DESCENDING....ANALYSIS IN PROGRESS......Skynet deliberated-and decided this discovery was not of human origin....and no doubt, hardly its own-but there WERE similarities-in that certain esoteric particles were detected by, in the process of study by an array of Sat-Drones, utilized in the Temporality Device, key, to the victory over the human race....TRACK ALL FRAGMENTS came the command from below. AND COORDINATE TOUCHDOWN POINTS FOR RETRIEVAL-EXAMINATION. EXECUTE. Had the central intellect that was Skynet been organic-been in any meanigful way human-it would have been amazed-amazed, and excited, to have from the cosmos drop into its lap, a technology that was not only extraterrestrial....but in great likelihood, advanced far beyond its own................To Be Continued

I'll be sure to find myself a T-1000 and reconfigure it core processors like future-John did for a bodyguard..two Ahnolds....some battle...!

Just basically saying I would still ship out with a leader of his ability, comparative knowledge notwithstanding...

Merely a joke, but, hm, had not thought about that! Now that would, if so, be a very nice way to celebrate...as have said previous, it would also have been wonderful to see the aftermath of Voyager's homecoming...but there was only so muc they could squeeze into what, eighty-four or so minutes...

While perhaps not realistic in the world we live in, it was all part of the necessity of giving 'Lanna her place on board as one of the regulars...and, once established-she earned that rank, time and again...''Not a bad choice for Chief Engineer'' smiled Janeway in a scene from ''Fury'' to Chakotay-as much the ex-rebel. But, consider, how much they both became so integral-all the Maquis-to Voyager and her survival..the grit, and determination needed, to survive, out there alll alone...a Family which endured, no matter what...

Though my personal favorite-shocker-between them is Kathryn, I would be glad to know Jean-Luc Picard was running the show, if I were to find myself on the Big E...and if I were hearing we were about to re-engage the Borg, or face a sudden assault by an unknown alien armada!

John Connor was smiling, as he sat out on a bench, watching the morning sun come up over the desert, at the edge of the hills, beyond the patch of ground where the old and by now weatherbeaten travel-trailer sat, an awning pulled out as a combination makeshift sun-shelter, and ersatz ceiling for the 'dining room' for this home that was indeed precisely that....a mobile, if not terribly fast conveyance, for he, and his mother....ever moving, ever ahead, driven by purpose-by a destiny that he had come to understand, all too early on, they were both at the center of-that HE was the apex of. War was coming..like the shadows, just before full sunrise, which were in time washed away by the dawning day. In a coming hour. a terrible brightness would encompass much of the world...not in glory, but in the initial flare of an Armageddon....one that he, his mother taught him, this child-too-young too know, had to be aware of-and to survive. To help humanity survive. His destiny............''Here we go'' Sarah Connor smiled, banging open the flimsy door of the trailer, from which she emerged, carrying in hand a pair of plates, piled doubly with steaming pancakes, their aroma caught on the morning breeze, and tickling his senses with blueberry goodness. No, it wasn't home made, just out of a mix-box, any more the the fruit was fresh..but, somehow, the very gesture was enough. It was a moment, that the woman who gave him birth tried, in what way she could, to give the son she so greatly loved, and cherished, beyond life itself, a little sunshine and cheer..some normalcy-in what was anything but a typical existence......''Thanks, Mom'' he said, popping the top on the plastic jar of maple syrup-idly, he did wonder what the real stuff, from real trees, tasted like-but, the fact that it had come from her hands was enough. SHE was enough. She was his world. And he, hers. ''You're welcome. Now, eat up. We've go a long day ahead....'' and his eyes drifted, as he tore into the flapjacks, the stand of rocks across the way, where sat several tin cans-targets, for the practice he would be undertaking-so that he could, more and more, be able to wield the very thing that would both evolve him as a living being..into a man, one day....of purpose. Of conviction. Who would not stop, until humanity was free........................''John. John!!'' With a start, Connor's dream evaporated like a fog in a stiff wind. He blinked, and angled his head on a stiff neck to face on of his men. ''Sorry. You were really wiped out...'' ''Long patrol'' Connor said, stifling a yawn, as he straigtened to hear what Kyle Reese was seemingly so animated about-ans steeled himself for what was as likely something he didn't care to hear. '' We jus got a report from Bravo Sector....'' a region up for grabs between the resistance and Skynet. ''And?'' ''The taskgroup there says that SOMETHING fell out of the sky last night-practically on their doorstep'' John wrinkled his as yet-unwashed brow. ''They tagged an airpatroller? '' Reese paused. ''Something bigger?'' ''Maybe.Look at this'' Reese lay a portable computer on the battered metal desk in his underground 'office', and keyed it on. Footage showed on its screen-and Connor found his sleep falling behind even further. ''What the devil is that...?'' ''We don't know. But, it was a pretty sizeable chunk of metal...and it came from VERY HIGH UP....or so the man who first saw it, and got it on vid says.'' ''Orbital?' Then it's nothing we could have possibly brought down...'' ''Well, there's no way to be sure. Not unless..'' ''Unless it's checked out'' ''It's been a pretty tight firefight in there. Not a lot of free movement-but of course, we're gaining ground...'' ''Close enough to get near the crash sight?'' John pressed. For a reason he could not completely name, he felt a sudden NEED to get there-to uncover the truth of this. And he had often found, that his gut-insticts-hard, battle-won..had been borne out wise to heed. Grabbing his weapon, and jacket, he rose, with energy, and renewed purpose. '' Fire up the transport. We're going on a little field trip'' he ordered. ''Yes, SIR''........
