  1. That was a great episode! Guys can be 'hopeless romantics', as well...and this one was a great drama piece...Tom pressing her to reveal her feelings, and she's aghast, that he's talking about this, at such a time!Heh heh...I wonder what kind of chaos ensued, when they were about to celebrate their first wedding anniversary!?

  2. Right. I would assume the real Ahnold has seen the new film? I confess I have not; I am just not the moviegoer I once was years ago..used to see every SF movie as it cam out..but, were the new Terminator on the tube right now, of course I would be there! Wonder what the Governator thinks of it?

  3. Janeway, for me. No..I would not want to be at the other end of Kathryn's ire...but, neither would I want to have 'Lanna after me. Kath was, is a wonderful person all round-compassionate, yet strong, maternal towards Kes, and Harry, a firm faith, and utter confidance in BE'Lanna(loved the hug at the end of 'Barge of the Dead' between them), her bonds with Tuvok, and Chakotay, 'reclaiming' wayward Tom, who fulfilled her faith in him so well....one of the finest characters in Star Trek-played expertly by the wonderful Kate Mulgrew-so GLAD she became the C.O.!

  4. Oh, oh, way to go! I actually inspired someone! Gor for it, in the event you're serious!(Just put me in the 'acknowledgements' section!...) I won't charge a fee for concept....but will take a seat with you at the MTV Movie Awards, when you hit it big with the screenplay! Yuks.Seriously though, my writer's brain is always on...whatever that comes down to...I do think that crossover series are interesting, Gene himself was good with such a concept-that is, for certain, all his creations....other franchises, as well, perhaps...

  5. Someone has been watching the Ferguson Schwarzzeneger.....he does pretty good, doesn't he? Yes, J..you did fine. But remember-you need a cigar in hand, a pair of dark sunglasses, and a leather biker's jacket...

  6. One of my all-time favorite Voyager moments, was when Janeway entered the Cargo Bay...and there was noone there. Her expression..wonderful moment. Another reason for me to love Voyager. The 'Myrad Universe' Voyager entry, I hear, has some story elements-not the 37's themselves-as part of its basic premise..but I also hear it's...dark. Not to give away...nuff said. Not my cup 'o tea, I think...

  7. Thank you much, J. I do think, that, to discuss her in general, the writers dropped the ball in developing her further-giving her more to do, and be. Look what they did with Troi on TNG. Granted, Kes' options weren't there to serve on the bridge at Alpha Shift-but, could have on others, and expanded her skillset-something she would have been intellectually inclined to do, and wanted to;she started out just being Neelix's kitchen helper, and rose to the second position in Sickbay. I do think that re her 'nature', there are some people, like me, who are drawn to that, whereas others like B'Ellanna, especially , or Seven. It's a matter of taste-and I respect everyone else's. Just askin' for mine...something I enjoyed was the Doctor's family. Too bad the producers were influenced by future syndication preferences of 'mixed air dates' to do much in the way of story arcs....for ex, ''Real Life'' was a touching drama piece, and it expanded his character. Tom's advice near the end was most sage, and kind....and it showed what any st series can do-provide a wonderful and powerfully emotioal glimpse into the human condition. There are those who would be harsh to Voyager-in this all we STV fans can unite!-and that does bug me, tell you...it's the 'intensity' of said criticism that's the problem. I feel the series captured the essence of Star Trek, at its heart..and I feel closer to these wonderful characters, in some ways, than TOS..which will ever be on my favorite list. Tom put it well how their Family there came to be...sad thing is, the novels have fractured it too much..IMO. Well, it won't stop this Voyager fan-writer...because Kathryn will live on!!

  8. Making jokes about someone who has just died is poor taste. Letterman I am not into. Better Jay. Therein lies the thing with comedians-some think that there are no boundaries....when there indeed should be.It's just plain decency. If it had been true, I can picture a few milllion angry st fans, as should be. SCOTTY WILL LIVE ON .....and Jimmy Doohan's memory, in so many.

  9. Not wanting to just keep this rollling on, but, just bear with me a few here

; but, yes, and to be clear, I do respect your right to your own opinion....and I appreciate your previous words of conciliation, as it were. Thanks. But, if I may, it's just that I, and others, have run afoul of what was I would call then 'outright hostility' to Kes-in months past. It was hurtful, and offensive-and has given me all the more appreciation for respecting another's choice of character as a fave.I do really try to always respect who another likes, and what, and to not use a word, or words, that could be offending. But, the issue, if I can, is using 'labels' on someone a person likes, that to me feel ...derogatrory-to whatever extent. It would just be better, if we could all couch our lack of interest into an 'I don't care for' or 'I did not like', or 'Was not interested', without going to specific terms, that's all. And this would be a good rule of thumb, not just here..but all across the boards-such as with the film, as I've seen in some places, not really here-that have gotten outlandishly vicious between the 'camps'...regardless of 'side'. I know it's a big, broad tent we live under..but a little bit of tact in regards to this sort of thingcould go a long way. Maybe it's harder for other people, sometimes, to see it that way..but it can come out so.Thanks for your indulgence, all. VR.

  10. Fine. But, if, and when I feel I need to, I will defend the character...the same right, as others may have to criticize..so, fair warning. Post anything at all about Kes, and poof, sooner or later, here come the critiques...same old thing. It's why I kept the subject out, to avoid the annoyance. I have always tried to keep my dislikes to myself-or couch them more 'gently'. Maybe people should think a bit more about how others feel about the charcters they like, and how they'd feel if the shoe was on the other foot, when commenting....right. Too much to expect that , I guess. Oh, well..nothing new. Nuff said.

  11. Kes was indeed a good person! And I deeply like those qualities in her. Not everyone in the world has a problem withthe idea of a person, or people-and, to whatever extent, there are real people-who are very loving, and giving.Perhaps the Ocampa, through her, had an extra sense in degree of compassion, but, it's just those basic qualities-compassion, kindness, gentleness-that make this world, which can be hard, and cold, and bleak, a better place. Just because Kes does not conform to some real-world perceptions of what a person is, doesn't negate her viability, or worth and contributions...and , after all, she WAS an alien, albeit a very special one, as was Neelix, or others. They were created to in part be observers, and commenters on the human condition-and who greatly admired humanity-through Kathryn, Chakotay, and the rest, whom they loved as family, and they them in turn. Such was said for Seven to do, and be. Well, while we're all being so frank, I have never cared for her character, much as so many have-for those who do, of course, it's your right as a fan to do so, naturally. But I will not refrain from defending my favorite, either. It certainly seems, as I vaguely alluded to prior, that Kes has gotten her share of knocks from certain segments of fans...which does get old to keep reading-and even to the point of outright 'bashing'-by some-repeatedly,and fiercely, in the past.Which is why I kept my appreciation for the character, and the actress who played her, out of discussion. Yes, everyone has their right to opinion, and it's always a 'risk' to bring up any tpoic-as we all have different tastes-but, I daresay many, whomever you prefer, could get weary of hearing that kind of negativity about your favorite, so consider that, when a Kesfan comes to her 'defense'. And, at the end of ther day, I remain a fan of the character, whomever does, or does not like her. Fortunately, that's my right, and privelege.

  12. What I don't get about the Kelvin is why they had phasers that were individually manned with people in the gun turrets. They didn't have that on ENT or in TOS.

I don't think that was the case. I believe those pulse phaser turrets were controlled from the bridge like every Federation starship.

It would make more sense, in a way, right...to my thread topic itself, I do find myself interested in these people. George is definitely a hero...in Star Trek Magazine, Chris Hemsworth, in coming uo with a vision for his character's persona, said he saw him as being this classic sort of hero,if I may roughly quote...he has these high moral values..is very idealistic;so, it's no suprise, then, he could, or would make the hard decisions-it's what an exec may be called upon to do, as Captain Robau, well...I think that he is a great example to younger men,and women, certainly after what occurs in the opening sequence.Of course, his choices affect also his son-significantly;we don't get direct answer as to how he feels about his father..but one can speculate-however, I don't see it as the same exactly, as the George Kirk of the novels-though some of the ideas therein were seeds for the writers of TREKXI....I would like seeing previous adventures of the Kelvin in a book series...I may well do some writing there myself. Faran Tahir sees his char as being a real veteran-of both combat, and peaceful negotation; he's been there on the fringe for a long while, has the experience, and is a prototype of Jim kIRK...It would also be fascinating, to see Winona Kirk, not as a woman on a farm-however 'rural' the Kirks truly were in the books-and someplace Jim could indeed go...but being on a starship, assumedly, carving out a long-term life there with her husband. I'd go so far, as to speculate that she was also a career officer...in the 24th, a Galaxy-class had dual-working couples...well, just some thoughts, about this interesting crew of Trekpast. I was glad to see them, particularly the Kirks....

  13. Really? I didn't know that!I DID see the movie, ya bet-and I tried to absorb it all...there was a lot going on in those first minutes....in any case, I missed that, Shoot-pardon the pun! To your question...duh. Toughie. There's one to ask one of the writers at a con. Someone should do that! Maybe increases coverage of fire in a given zone? No military strategist here....accomplishes, if more crudely-again, older-tech-what modern phasers do with strips positioned hither and yon? Hey, 'least i'm trying,eh?....

  14. Scenario:A Borg Sphere in the Terminatorverse experiences a severe malfunction, and crashes on Earth...right after Judgement Day.....Skynet is unable to target the incoming 'object' in time to destroy it-or damage it further-and it ends up going, scattered everywhere..but just enough remaining intact...for 'Net's soldiers to recover some technology.....

  15. I purchased Michael Giacchino's score for the new film around the time I saw it..which I definitely enjoy. Anyone else? Opinions? To me, the theme, while different, and naturally, it would be, is a good one. I am glad to place it alongside Jerry Goldsmith's work, and others..such as of course Alexander Courage, whose TOS theme was in my opinion WELL DONE by Michael. The soundtrack is predominantly action-oriented...and it delivers. The Narada motif is a fitting one, ominous enough to me....but what grabs me most, along with the Main Title, is ''Enterprising Young Men'', which in part features overture of the main theme-as is used , as many who have seen the film could recall, quite often in the movie. I do not tire of it. But, it's the fast-beat percussive work, if I am describing this correctly, of what is the central piece of this track-VERY heroic, and it frankly gets my blood pumping to listen to it, conjuring up images for me, of the Enterprise rushing to, and into battle, of Jim and Spock's derring-do....I had a similar feeling, when listening to 1701-E blazing in to help the Defiant, and 'whack' the Borg cube in Goldsmith's 'First Contact'...or Luke Skywalker-dare I mention the film!(Grin) heroics in the SW soundtrack....and this theme, interweaved with the Main..a wonderful piece! .....The music for George and Winona generates memories of seeing their moments together-and the theme for these scenes easily takes the place of sound, as the Kelvin..well, I'll say no more there.Very appropriately touching....there is also, to note another particular motif, which seems to echo what I suppose is Vulcan-some string or unusual instrument, or alteration, which evokes a sense of the alien...well, for what it's worth, there is my take on the soundtrack. I look forward to Michael trying to top his first Star Trek outing-which to me was a fine addition to any Trekmusic fan's library.....

  16. As I posted elsewhere, Bob Picardo, I read, may have a recurring role on a primetime series this fall..don't recall what, or where, if happens. Found the article via a Trekcore news page ref....
