  1. What total garbage! If they go through with this I too will not watch them. And I don't pass Star Trek up. But I would start very fast. It's just a bad idea. Somehow I get the feeling that this is just a silly rumor and/or joke. Paramount would never be so foolish. But if, for some reason, they do decide to go with this horrendously bad idea I will be writting Paramount. Many fans think they know how to fix Star Trek when they have no knowlege of writing; and as such I have heard many terrible ideas from fans. And if the fans know that this is a bad idea, then Paramount should also know because, seriously, Paramount is smarter then the "fans".

  2. Star Trek.com has an announcement to give this Thursday (April 1st, 2004)

They do not hint to what it is to any great degree but they do show a picture of the NX-01 beside it, and they say that you "Won't want to miss this!". So I'm guessing that it is Enterprise related and that it is good news. I'm guessing that they got a contract for the next season.

This is where I found it:

    Link to the announcement!

So check it out on Thursday and let's hope I'm right! What do you think the news might be?

  3. I think what it comes down to is the fact that we buy too many "luxuries". It gets to the point that the maintenance of the luxuries becomes a hassal. Keep it simple stupid :) All these cell phones, all the features, all the PDA's, all the fancy little gadgets that take forever to learn how to use, then you but a new one, and have to learn that too. Too much hassal, and how often are these features even useful? Do they enhance our lives or hinder them. These wants are not needs, and they certainly aren't what we REALLY want. I like this topic... it's good for a ramble!

  4. There are instances where a condition becomes permanent. In rare cases depression can be permanent. There are also conditions which are always lifelong such as Shizophrenia. For conditions like these medication has to be life long to manage the condition.

  5. In the book "Probe" Sarek's protege Riley (the singing one from Engineering) has a beard and Riley remembers how Sarek had first reacted to it when they first met. They mention how it is unusual for Vulcan's to have beards because they aren't dignified.

  6. I tend to hit things. I have a mattres that is leaning against a wall. I tend to go all out jiu jitsu on that thing. Prevents me from breaking my nuckles and putting holes in walls (I have put 4 holes in the walls of my home, but none go right through because I never hit a wall with full force. If I did that I could probably put my fist thru one side and out the other (if the wall is a separating wall)

  7. T'Pol was "fridged" or more accurately business-like. In season one she always seemed to be an annoyance. In season two she had not learned quite how to fit in but she was no longer annoying. Now she is the absolute opposite. In season 3 we have been given countless evidence that she prefers humans now. In Twilight she stayed with Enterprise and Archer for all the years. Her leaving vulcan command was proof enough. She has evolved into a human loving vulcan... and quite possible the most human vulcan out there with the exception of Spock.

  8. I respect your thoughts, though, because I can see that you think before you post and have strong opinions, which is a marvelous thing when you read some of the other things people post in this forum

You believe in creation. I believe in evolution. Both are possible, and neither can be proven. Just argued endlessly. So, I respect your belief as well.

I myself do not disclude "creation", but I do think that if creation did take place then that creation involved the creation of the processes that would assist life (ie: evolution) Again, that is a theory as is everything else when it comes to the questions of life.

It's been fun debating with ya!

  9. I'm somewhat surprised who I voted for. It was T'Pol. I chose her because she is my favorite. I know that Nimoy made the Vulcan's for what they are. And in that sense he did the better job as an actor to bring all that to a character. But putting what the characters put into it aside, I enjoy T'pols character more. Maybe it has something thing to do with her gender! Seriously! Not because she is gorgeous but because it's new to the Vulcan thing. I like exploring that aspect of the Vulcan's. It has made the Enterprise experience a good one for me.

  10. Oh really, I wasn't aware of that fact. That was the same year as the final season of Star Trek.

If he became the captain rather than Shatner I see 2 likely possibilities:

    1. Hunter would not have died because by living 3 of his life on the show he may not have not been by his stairs on that day. He might not have even had the same home

    2. Star Trek would still be loved by all but unfortunately because he did still die there was never a chance for The Motion Picture. Star Trek then was never resurrected.

Maybe there was a purpose[/] to why Hunter was never allowed to be captain on the show? Oh geez, I'm turing Star Trek into a religion. That can't be good!

  11. If this girl has feelings for you and you do not want them to persist you need to offer her closure. Make it 100% clear you are not intersted and never will be. When there is hope the heart cannot move on. If you remove that hope, the heart will have no choice because it wants love in return. If it cannot get love in return it looks elsewhere. Simple principle of psychology.

Therefore, I did not vote. Asking her about it was the closest vote but there real answer would be to tell her about it. Tell her where you stand. Don't give her room for interpretation. It must be clear.

  12. Okay, I can see you might have taken that as circular thinking. If evolution depends on life, then how can the first cell formation be thought of as evolution if there was no life.

When amino acids evolved into the first cell it wasn't even living. It was just a combination of molecules that had a propensity to stay intact and in some manner (perhaps of the face of a crystal) form a copy of itself.

So at 0 you have no life then evolution occurs to create life

The first cell or a replicating combination of molecules is point 1. From point on it replicates but becomes slightly more complex in the process. This evolves the thing in question to point 2. Then to point 3.... to 4 and 5 and 6 and so on. From point 0 to 1 there is an exeption because the fundamental process of evolution relies on the random combining of molecules. From each point after that (a point is a generation) evolution relies upon procreation (or replication) or the organism.

It is the manner of evolution that requires replication that I was saying requires life to exist. Not the first kind. I did not clarify that... cause as you can see it took quite a bit to do so. I was merely a difference in the kind of evolution. There are many kinds. Social life can evolve. The planets surface can evolve etc. Those kinds of evolution do not require life either. It was just one definition of evolution (one type) that I was refering to.

  13. In a way I do agree with William Stryker (see my above posts if you wish) Captain Kirk died. That is simply what happened. He died saving the crew of the Enterprise. Maybe not his crew, but that was the meaning of the whole thing, that in some strange way, the crew of the Enterprise, any Enterprise after Kirks would be his crew. He displayed that even on the Enterprise-B. He may have left the bridge, but he did what he needed to do to ensure the safety of that ship. Kirk died doing what he needed to do. He saved the Enterprise D, an Enterprise that follows in his footsteps. Isn't that good enough for a legend?

  14. Now that we have first contact documented with the Xindi and the mention that they serve in the Federation in the future it will take some clever writing to explain why we never hear of them for the next 300 years.

Why, there are 1000's of species on the Federation. Not all get mentioned in any Star Trek. Besides, we never hear of Archer in the other treks, and since the two are related then it would make sense that we also don't hear of the Xindi.

  15. lol, those were very funny. I loved the one about Charlie X. The fact that I even get it says that I watch too much Star Trek. I like the Khan one too.

    Here are mine:

Seven: Because resisting the urge was futile

Data: To get to the other side, sir? (looks to Picard, failing to understand the joke)

The Doctor: I'm a doctor, not a chicken psychologist

Chakotay: Spirit guide, you are the wrong animal. I want to speak with Mr. Chicken.

    Quark: Was there latinum involved?

Janeway: Maybe he was on the jouney home?

Neelix: I dunno, but a chicken would go good with leola root stew.

    and my favorite...

Q: (looks at his son) Don't provoke the Chicken!

  16. If the universe is losing energy, and becoming more random, how can a life form be becoming "more complex or better"?

If evolution depends on life than where did the first life form come from?

You say the universe is losing energy? Bam! That would violate another law of thermodynamics. The energy in the universe (overall) is just turning to heat energy. (the amount of energy is still the same, just in a different form) Heat energy is vitually useless except to keep things nice and toasty. To turn it into useful energy, you would have to use more energy that you would get out of it. In fact, organisms help turn enegy into heat (thermal) energy because as you may have noticed, the human body pumps out a good deal of heat. We pump out alot more heat that any bacteria I know of. Our complexity increases the causing of heat, so we are actually adding to the entropy of the universe. Complexity, also does not violate this because it isn't the universe overall that is gaining complexity, just a small part (a few living organisms). The second law of thermodynamics says that the universe lessens in complexity OVERALL. I SAID OVERALL. HEAR THAT AGAIN: OVERRRRRRRALLLLLLLLLLLL!

I also said that evolution depends on life. I never said that life depends on evolution. However, the forming of the first cell itself was a form of evolution because the molecules acheived a state which allowed them to persist longer in their given environment.

Just because evolution depends on life does not mean that life depends on evolution. It's the same for a child who depends on his mother. The mother does not depend on the child. Dependency is not always a two way street.

  17. Yeah, a series about the Maquis would be really good, I'd certainly watch it. Hell, a mini-series would do. It could be used to tie up some loose ends like what happened to Ro Laren. It could start during 'TNG' era and then end mid-way through the 'DS9' era.

Right. Another prequel for bashers to pick on. Never mind the fact that we would know that the characters would all die on Tevlik's moon. We all know what happens in that era of Star Trek. There is no need to reexplore an old area. At least Enterprise doesn't come from an era that we've explored before. Bad idea IMO.
