  1.   Congratulations VaBeachGuy!  Thanks for creating such awesome boards and for your efforts to ensure a civil and respectful place to share our fascination with Star Trek.

    I second that. Congrats!

  2. its a tie between,................ voric from voyager and tucker

ps how did you forget voric     :)

I only named characters who were already Chief Engineers somewhere. I seen some Voyager but I didn't remember anyone named Vorik. Sorry.

That's the Vulcan guy in Engineering who was in a lot of episodes for awhile, completely disappeared and came back out of nowhere for one of the last episodes.

  3. I don't think so either. Except maybe just for marines. You couldn't pick just anybody to help run a star ship. But if you just needed ground troops maybe, but my guess is the Federation had a ton of people to use without having to draft.

  4. I have to agree, her talent for giving useless information was shocking. "He's hiding something" Great, but what is he hiding, that he is cheating on his wife or that he is about to fire?

haha, that was the draw back of being half betazed. If you asked Picard though, he would tell you she was invaluable

  5. There was a writers' strike during season 2 that caused problems with productions.  I think Shades of Gray was a direct result of that as well as it being a cheap clip show.  Another thing that happened in season 2 were a number of stories originally conceived but not used for TOS were re-written for TNG.  The writers' strike is a reason why there were only 22 episodes that year rather than the 26 that all of the other seasons had.

Yup, they basically scrambled all season to put together episodes. A lot of them were written just days before shooting and sometimes were being re-written as the episodes were being shot.

  6. Yup, Troi was Lt. Commander and as mentioned, Lt.Commanders are almost always called Commanders. Just look at Dax, Worf, and Geordi for futher proof of that.

Also, it's pretty simple why she was on the bridge. Her empathic powers almost always were useful to Picard when encountering various species. He would routinely ask for her opinion to see if the guy/girl was hiding something, lying, or telling the truth etc. If you don't think Troi was useful on the bridge, you need to watch more TNG episodes. :D

  7. As has been said there are other ships, just nothing of the "Warp 5" class. This is Starfleet's first mission into "Deep Space". We are seeing the seeds of the Federation and the seeds of what we all know as "Starfleet" being planted now.

Another thing I just thought of, I wonder if we'll ever hear about Col. Stephen Richey of the Explorer ship Carbdis launched in July of 2037. They can't locate the ship because that would conflict with the Trek timeline but they could mention it as a nod to TNG in much the same way Tribbles were mentioned.

For anyone that doesn't remember, Col. Richey was the commander of an Earth ship that vanished only to turn up on TNG in the 2nd season in The Royale.

That would be a really obscure continuity reference to TNG. Even though I've seen that episode about 6 times I don't think I'd pick it up if they made mention of Col. Richey on Enterprise.

  8. Most costumes are hit or miss in ST in my opinion but there have been a couple of winners over the years. Personally I really like the Klingon uniform, it's perfect for their race and looks warrior like. Also, I like the robe/cloak that Gowron and others wear, very fitting.

  9. ok ill give ya that. when going to the movies you want a movie, not just another episode that shoul've been on tv, not the big screen. i think V would've make a good episode as well, not a movie.

Yup, Insurrection would have made a really good two parter but after First Contact I expected more in the sense that First Contact really raised the bar.

  10. the movie wasnt that bad, it was pretty good. better than V anyway. i also see no one likes my choice of THE MOTION PICTURE POSTER tsk tsk. im always in the minority. lol.

nah, it wasn't bad, but it played out more like an above average season 4 episode than an actual movie.

  11. The Borg's greatest flaw is over-confidence.  It's how Janeway and crew kept defeating them and why the Borg only send 1 cube for Earth.

They believe they don't need to cloak in order to assimiliate cultures.

Good point... I'm just waiting for their mass invasion of the Alpha Quadrant...

  12. NX-01 ENTERPRISE

From the registry number, you can gather that Enterprise is the first ship.  There are 3 more under construction.  They've made better relations with the Vulcans which were rocky at the start along with first contact with Klingons, Andorrians, and other popular aliens.  We also have the Temporal Cold War.

ENTERPRISE is currently my favorite TV show, so if you got any questions, I'm your man! :D  :D

ah ok, thanks. So I guess earth is kind of screwed if someone decides to start a war with them since they only have one ship, hehe.

  13. Oooooooo. That's a really good question! I've never thought about it before. I wish I knew the answer.

Then again, since the Borg have transwarp, maybe they don't need a cloaking device...
