  1. When Damar first appeared on the show I couldn't stand his character. He had no likeable characteristics and he was really dull compared to Dukat in my opinion, but by the end I liked him almost as much as Dukat. He played the part of a Cardassian leader, fed up with the Dominion, very well. It was tragic that he died, but you can't be a hero, unless you die, so they say... and despite his wrong doings, that's what he was. For awhile, I thought Dukat had come to his senses and was going to be good himself but he screwed that up when he signed the treaty with the Dominion, and then went further down the sanity spiral to the point of almost being insane. So I'm glad Damar ended up filling the void as the Cardassian who realized he was wrong.

  2. I've finally seen the complete run through of DS9, with a couple of missing episodes here and there. So tonight I finished with What You Leave Behind.

I'd like to know what everyone's opinion of this episode is? Maybe because I liked the show so much but to me this was one hell of a sad final episode. I haven't seen All Good Things since it's original airing but End Game was happy. The crew finally back in the Alpha Quadrant, all in one piece, where as What You Leave Behind has Odo leaving Kira, O'Brien leaving DS9, Sisko leaving Cassiday and Jake, and so forth. The only happy parts are Bashir finally finding love and Worf going with Martok and at least we know from the TNG movies that Worf is still doing good.

In a way it was a clever way to end the show, kind of finish everyone's running story, where as End Game just ended out of nowhere (what the heck happens to everyone back on Earth!?!). Seeing What You Leave behind really drives home the fact that I think us DS9 fans really need a DS9 movie, or least have most of the cast involved in a multi-cast movie... because everything was too sad to leave as is.

  3. i liked jakes character, whenever he and nog were starting trouble was pretty interesting sometime. i think his character added to the show, at least to getting to know sisko better. all in all he was a good character to have, IMHO.

The Nog+Jake scenes kind of disappeared in Season 5 though, Nog went on to Star Fleet and became much more interesting, while Jake spent most of his time being written out of episodes because there was nothing they could do with him.

  4. I've always thought that for a character who is mentioned in the main credits, he sure isn't in a lot of episodes. I never really had a problem with his character but I think the writers made a big mistake and built themselves into a wall when they decided to make Jake not want to get involved with Star Fleet. I really think the character could have been so much more interesting and they could have done so much more if he wanted to become a member of Star Fleet as opposed to a reporter who shows up every 10 episodes.

  5. I will always view the Borg as a force to rekon with.  They always find a way to adapt.  Even in the final episode of Voyager. I was left believing that somehow that was not the end of the Borg........the Queen and her drones would be heard from again.

I agree. I personally disagree with the statement that the borg were wussified. Lets be realistic, after so many encounters the Federation starts to become used to him. They developed weapons and strategies specifically to battle the Borg. So it makes sense they aren't as dangerous. While any given crew will probably have fear when encountering the Borg, you can't compare the first two encounters, when you know very little, to the 20th encounter when you know a lot. The crew isn't going to have the same feelings at that point and thus, either would the audience. With ENT, because the Borg were "new" again, the crew felt the same fear and wonder that the TNG crew originally felt and because of this, most members of the audience felt the same way, at least I did.

  6. alterego...phew quite a reply...but again the question remains, what about the wreckage and the effects on the.. timeline....ablative armor and transwarp coils...whats the deal i

i do recall them saying that they had a few more borg left in the freezer...is it possible they might be left too?  and what about the inert nanoprobes that were floating in phoxes blood and the borg technology that was left in that plasma relay junction?

I think the best answer to that is see how it plays out. I have a feeling there will be an episode where Phlox starts to turn back into a drone and tries to assimilate Enterprise.

  7. I would like to see one of the following:

    i) A show taking place in the movie time-lime that deals with star fleet command and also incorporates a lot of Section 31. Almost like a X-Files version of Star Trek.

ii) a starship series that continues the current time-line. There would have to be some kind of catch, like a military vessel, or a spy ship with a newly developed cloaking device.

iii) A show based around Romulans or Klingons as the main characters.

I love Enterprise but I want to see the current known time-line continued.

  8. Click for Spoiler:

Great Episode. I liked the holographic bullets reference. But why can 22nd century medicine discover that radiation cures assimilation when no mention of it is made in TNG and VOY?

    Click for Spoiler:

Well, they actually had time to do some research on the Borg which TNG never had a chance of doing. And keep in mind, Phlox wasn't a full drone yet, only about half way there, with a full drone it would not be effective I would surmise. And, we MIGHT find out later that there are side-effects from the radiation treatment that might effect Phlox. Perhaps, there will be an episode in the future where they find out the radiation didn't completely work and Phlox tries to assimilate everyone hehe.

  9. GREAT EPISODE

This was a great episode, but I think it would have made a better two parter

    Click for Spoiler:

I do have to wonder though about the Borg technology that was left behind.  Did the Borg use all of it to modify the ship, or was some left on earth?  If it was left on earth, would our scientists not analyze it further?  The part of Phlox hearing the message was great.  It kind of brings the Borg full circle.  The Borg getting the message in the 24th century, explains how the Borg would find out about humanity.

    Click for Spoiler:

I agree the part about Phlox hearing the message was a good touch. That's also a very good question about the technology they left behind - surely there had to be something if just hull plating. Wasn't it supposed to be Q - that introduced humanity to the Borg or did VOY alter that with Seven of Nine?

    Click for Spoiler:

That's what Q thinks, as I highly doubt that he was watching Humans during this time so he wouldn't know that humanity have met the Borg, since there is no reason for him to believe they did when he knows they're supposed to be in Delta Quadrant

  10. Click for Spoiler:

I think a couple of people touched on a key point here. The Borg were terrifying again. We have to keep in mind, the ENT crew knows very little about them, in fact, they don't even know they're called the Borg. You could tell there was a real sense of fear and confusion because The Borg are so advanced they (the crew) almost don't know what to make of them. Those same feelings the crew had, I felt too. Now, I liked the Borg in Voyager, but it was different than the Borg in TNG. In TNG you couldn't wait to see how the crew got out of it because The Borg were always one step ahead. That same feeling that was in Q Who, Best of both Worlds, and Descent was present in this episode and it was paced very well. I wanted it to keep going.

I also enjoyed the mention of the binars and the references to First Contact, and the end was great regarding the signal reaching the Delta Quadrant in 200 years. Even though Archer knows he won't be around by then, he knows something terrifying will happen then.

The research scientist at the beginning were interesting too and I thought it was really funny when one of the researchers said something like, "they're probably not hostile" or something to that affect.

Overall they did the episode very well and didn't screw up the time-line at all, in fact, they made it more interesting with the signal. And because the crew never finds out what they're called, about their real weapons and ships, it makes sense that Picard and his crew will still know nothing about the Borg by the time of Q Who. Because there was no real threat to Earth it was probably just a passing mention in a log that was forgotten about by then.

Lastly, the Enterprise was in real danger of being destroyed and they had trouble with a transformed transport ship, so we don't have to worry about, "how did the Enterprise crew take out a sphere or Cube and an entire fleet in the 24th century can't take one cube" mentality.
