  1. From my own personal experience............I know that Ouiiji boards can be very dangerous. We all have our own personal beliefs, faiths etc..............And sometimes in the midst of crisis, we can ignore warnings and do irrational, even desperate things...................When I was a young sophomore in college, a very close friend of mine was killed in a car accident. In my grief, and desire to try to know where she was, and how she was, I went out and bought a Ouiji board..........Belive me, I am a Christian, a Catholic, with a strong faith in God..............But I was distraught, and wanted badly to do anything to talk to my friend..............So the night after I bought this thing, I convinced several of my classmate to join me in playing with it. None of them knew what my motive was for using it. But the point is that it did begin to move around the board, which began to freak people out. It also began to spell things, as I began to ask it questions.............When I finally asked it who it was, It actually spelled out my dead friend's name, and everyone in the room jumped up and left me......I became hysterical, passed out, and the next thing I remember was waking up in the college infirmary. After I was released, I went to several of my psychology professors, trying to obtain explanations, about the Ouiiji board and what happened that night..............However, there is no factual explanation that anyone could give me........because there is none............One can believe whatever one wants to believe, but no one will ever know the truth.........still the serious issue here is the potential dangers that one places himself in, mentally from trying to delve into the supernatural...............I was a "mess" for quite sometime after that experience; it frightened me. And I needed logic to explain why the board moved..........but there was none.......which only complicated my healing process, and certainly didn't help anyone else who was in the room that night. As a psychology student, and a Christian, I really should have know better........but sometimes youth ignores rational behavior.............

For those of you who are young, and think this would be a big thrill, and lots of fun..........believe me if you get into something too deep.........you will not be able to handle it.

  2. I graduated from an all female college....... For those of you who are Bill Cosby fans, a number of years ago, he produced a sit-com called "It's A Different World", which was located at A fictional college called "Hillman"....Through out the show, they would occasionally show college buildings supposedly located at Hillman......But,in actuality these buildings were located on Spelman College's campus......the school from which I graduated. Cosby and his wife have had a close affiliation for years with Spelman........and our fine arts building is named after Bill Cosby's wife. Spelman College has become one of the top colleges in the United States, and is no longer just listed as a leading African American Institution of higher learning........

I truly think I can support the integrity of coeducation, while also supporting same sex institutions..........As a mental health professional, I have long been aware of the differences in males and females both from an emotional and physical perspective. Spelman is located in the midst of several other college, two of which are coeducational, the other, Morehouse college is an all male institution. Once a Spelmanite has completed her freshman year, she can if she chooses, take classes at some of the other schools in the area. However, she also has that wonderful opportunity to be empowered, and to get in touch with her uniqueness, and learn to feel okay about being female; about pursuing her dreams, and her education.........She learns how special she is, how to deal with certain issues and subjects that sometimes can only be addressed by the support of others like her. She gains support for her feelings. She learns how to think independently.....because much of her life she has been geared towards striving to be dependent and cared for. Please, understand that I am not knocking relationships..........we all want companionship. But often times females have such a hard time feeling okay about having their own needs met.........They usually put their partners, and so many other's needs ahead of theirs........So, while I support co-educational education; I certainly know the value of being with others and having a support system that can educated you in ways that would not be focused on in a co-educational environment.

  3. :borgqueen: I waited to see what others has to say regarding this question, but there haven't been a lot of responses here. So I'm going to go ahead and voice my views.......... This episode had an exciting story line. I think that was the purpose of the episode...to have an exciting conclusion for the season. Captain Janeway has always been my favorite Captain. But I have questioned why the writers had her to make certain decisions, based on how they portrayed other species and characters. Regardless of what the Borg are up against, it is factual knowledge that the Borg could never be trusted.......that their ultimate goal was to assimilate every species they came in contact with. So, in no way could there ever be a true alliance with the Borg.

The writers for Voyager, never allowed Janeway to respect Chakotay's insights....and this to me was a mistake.........as it became obvious that there was never a true partnership between Janeway and Chakotay, as it should be between a captain and the second in command. It was as though Janeway never trusted or had real confidence in Chakotay's decisions.

But regarding this particular episode...the story line was exciting. Still under the circumstances of what we all know about the Borg, it was predictable that the Borg were simply using this crew, and in the long run would attempt to assimilate them.....which in the long run also made Captain Janeway come accross looking rather incompetent. :b-day: :borgqueen: :b-day:

  4. I guess my own opinion is that Trekkie's became fans for different reasons. Since I have always walked to the tune of a different drummer, I've not tried to defend my Star Trek interest. I think many of us here are endeared to different series. TOS got me going. But for me it was more about the fact that for the first time on any TV show I'd ever watched; there were people of all ethnicities, nationalities, respecting each other and living and working together; as we were not doing here on earth......There was no prejudice and discrimination on the Enterprise.........That was the essence of what began my love for Star Trek......after a time I got into the characters, their personalities, the aliens, episode plots, etc.....But for me, all of that came much later.

I was really upset when TOS was replaced with TNG, and didn't give it a chance at all. When DSN was introduced, I didn't bother to watch it either........It was Voyager with it's female captain and her crew that brought me back to Star Trek, And then it was because of the characters, their struggles, issues, and the way they were forced to handle their crisis while being lost in space. (I guess it appealed to the therapist side of me  ) Voyager forced me to take a look at reruns of TNG and DSN. But no matter how I tried, I could never get anything out of DSN.

At any rate my point is, endearment to Star Trek is such an individual matter. And I personally I am one who does not enjoy Enterprise either. Each new season I've tried to give it a chance.......and I've decided that just like DSN........Enterprise just won't happen for me.........Still, as I will never let go of my love for TOS, Voyager or TNG. And I will be a Trekkie as long as there's room to be endeared for different reasons. I hope that the next Star Trek series will offer more that interests me. Until that time, I'll just be waiting, reviewing my recorded Voyager Tapes, watching reruns of TNG, and posting here with all of the different Trekkies throughout the world.

    [quote=TheUnicornHunter,Aug 5 2004, 12:21 PM}But Star Trek has changed, there is no "one way" that it "should" be - and change is a part of life.  However, it no longer contains the essence of what endeared it to me.  So while it may now be more appealing to newer audiences it has managed to lose me altogether.  Oddly, I don't feel as sad about that as I thought I might.  I'll still love TOS and its wonder and ideals. But ENT is obviously a show designed for a different demographic than myself.  And the plans for movie 11 sound even more distant  - a movie about a bunch of college kids definitely sounds designed for younger viewers. {quote}

  5. This is great information. Thanks!

Vorik appeared in a total of 8 episodes over the course of the series. They are:

    -Alter Ego

    -Blood Fever

    -Day of Honor

    -Demon

The actor who played Vorik, Alexander Enberg, also appeared in Time's Arrow Part 2 (TNG) as a reporter, Lower Decks (TNG) as Ensign Taurik, and in Voyager's Juggernaut as Malon # 3. He is also the son of Jeri Taylor, one of the series' writers and creators.

  6. No it really doesn't hurt, there is a sinus/nasal washer that you can purchase from some drug stores. Directions come with it to show you how to use it. My allergist gave me the salt water recipe. It's a bit uncomfortable at first. but it clears out "stuff" in your sinuses you can't reach otherwise. It should be helpful to anyone with allergy issues.

Hi GAB, long time no see. EEWWW! And how exactly do you wash out your sinuses with salt water??? That's gotta hurt. I know if I get any water up my nose, it hurts. Are you talking about when you have fits of sneezing and then you get a headache?? I get that too.

  7. I have serious allergies. So at times I do get some painful sinus headaches. I already take allergy shots, and have a prescription that helps. But, in addition what also helps are sinus massages, and washing out my sinuses with a salt water.

  8. :) Dreams..........Being Pisces "The Dreamer" I also do quite a bit of dreaming while awake.......day dreaming that is. I often find that my day dreams are more enjoyable than those I can remember from the night, because I'm more in control of them.............I just love day dreaming during a boring staff meeting.

  9. I couldn't vote above. In my spare time I enjoy drawing, sketching; I've been writing poetry since I was a kid, I've published one children's book, still love to dance and sing, but don't do either as well as I used to..........am I an artist?(smiles):bow:

  10. Ditto, Spacetigger!

I agree with just about everybody else here. Seven wouldn't make a good Captain at all..She doesn't have the people skills necessary to keep the crew's morale up..And the patience to get them back to Earth..And I don't even see what chain of events would have to happen in order for Seven to be Captain..What? Everyone gone but the Ensigns?!

Now, I believe Seven would make a fine Science Officer or Engineer but Captain? No way..

  11. Blood Fever was one of my most favorite episodes. I am a true Torres/Roxanne Dawson fan......even got to meet her and get her autograph at a Trek convention about three years ago.......Anyway I can't answer either question about Vorik. I just thought he was an interesting change from Spock, and was sorry when he no longer showed up in any further episodes. Unfortunately, I didn't see Voyager from the beginning. So the episodes with Vorik were out of sequence when I got a chance to see them.
