  1. A different spelling of it but mine is just inside the top 20 for my birth year of 1980.

and my middle name is outside of the top 100 by a little bit (again a variation of the way I spell my middle name)

 My niece's name is #83 for the year she was born

As for the rest of my family, majority of their names appeared in variations in the top 500 (save for my little brother's name, and my sister's middle name... none of our names are common or commonly spelled, at least in the USA. Then of course pronunciation is a whole other subject, my sister is THRILLED to be watching the Olympics and gets to hear her name said correctly complete with the same spelling. It is a Scandinavian name that is perpetually misspelled and mispronounced over here. Same with my father's name.) And my best friend's name was just outside the top 50 the year he was born.

  2. You gotta have your gear screwed on REAL tight for that one. Note that they only retreat to cover when the wind speed hits 120. That's Cat 3 or 4, ain't it? Imagine standing post in 115 knot winds.

Yes, it is midpoint Category 3 when winds are appx. 120mph. If you are speaking in knots, then it is a base Category 4. In any case it is a major hurricane at that point.

When I was younger, a museum I went to actually had a wind chamber where a group could sit through simulated hurricanes. It took you to a minimum Category 5... it does get kinda freaky at Category 3, and the real life stuff can be a bit nerve wrecking at Category 1 or 2. Standing guard in it, takes a ton of guts.

  3. Doesn't suck, IMO.

Emily Hughes earned her place in the Olympics.

    Kwan did not.

    Justice has been done.

Could not have said it better myself! Well said, APW (my mother & I both wholeheartedly agree).

I think what aggrivated me most about her was that her routines were recycled repeatedly and passed off as a "new routine". Even if she DID change parts of it, you could easily tell that majority of it was untouched. If you watched her from year to year, she really did NOT make improvements at all. And the new scoring system only served to emphasize this, if anything it also emphasized she was going downhill. And speaking of aggrivation, it makes me mad that they spent all this time panning in on her during the opening ceremonies, then repeatedly doing reports on her when there were SO many other athletes from many nations who could have gotten some recognition! (I root for the US, that goes without saying being as I am from there... but I have so many other favorites from around the world, I would have loved to have seen them appear instead of her.

Also had Emily been there where she BELONGED... she would not have to be dealing with delays due to the massive winter storm (this was brought up during an interview yesterday).

Congratulations to Emily Hughes on being restored to her RIGHTFUL place on the Olympic Squad! And know that there are so many of us pulling for you, Kimmie Meisner & Sasha Cohen!!!!

  4. in no particular order

    1) startrekfans.net

    2) ideas01.com (Data's website & message board)

    3) Imagination Island (CJLP & Indy's message board)

    4) yahoo & aol

Those are the main five... but I also randomly go to a handful of other sites

I go to sites having to do with Irish dance, meteorology (accuweather & NOAA mainly), a few astronomy sites (main one being Astronomy.com), Dancing With the Stars site, Skating With Celebrities site, a Pokemon XD site, Club Pogo (a game site), amiright.com (misheard song lyrics & parody site), angryalien.com (movies done by bunnies in 30 seconds), and a site for anime lyrics (makes it easier to sing along to the songs if you know the words, even if they are not in your native language  ), wikipedia & Encyclopedia Mythica...basically sums it up

  5. Tshirts (have about 150)

oh I had forgotten about that one. When I was competing in gymnastics I tried to collect every one of the shirts for the meets I was in (Nationals & States included. Many more meets I did not get shirts from for one reason or another). Of course I outgrew many of them and also they began to be worn out so I had carefully scanned the designs in and recovered them. Sadly my old computer crashed taking about 40 shirt designs with it :laugh::laugh:

Nowadays, I am in competitive dance... so naturally I began collecting shirts from as many competitions as possible (so far I have three of the four I was in)

  6. I mainly watch the Winter Olympics for the figure skating, but I do love to watch ski jumping, luge, bobsled, and freestyle aerials.

With the addition recently of skeleton, I HAVE to add that one (not to mention that would be a cool event to try). And I really got into watching curling during Salt Lake Games.

I might catch figure skating just to watch Michelle Kwan choke again.

I did not think she really needed to be granfathered onto the Olympic squad.. there is a much better skater that they are leaving back here in the US, who SHOULD have had that final spot on the team (and that was Emily Hughes, who received 3rd place at this year's Nationals)

Besides the fact I like the sport and am of course going to be cheering on Kimmie Meisner & Sasha Cohen... I have to agree on how you worded that APW.

  7. grey pajama top, black wool pants, navy blue socks, navy blue gauntlet (on my left arm) of sweatshirt like fabric, and I have my green thermal blanket draped over my shoulders and am contemplating putting my slippers on (either the blue or the black ones, it does not really matter).

Ok, reason I have two pairs of slippers... one pair is one that I just wear when my feet are cold or just want to have soft shoes on. The other pair are a bit larger than the others and I use those mainly when I am at dance events. That way I can keep my dance shoes on and have another pair of shoes over them keeping them protected until I am ready to dance.... believe me, it is much easier to do that than to have to try and keep unlacing the shoes to take them off and then have to try and relace them when you go to get ready to dance.

  8. I tend to collect some coins (especially foreign) & candles are the main things I think. Well, and music too.

I like stuff with butterflies on them, and it does almost seem like I collect them (along with angel or faery statues/sculptures). I love getting & putting together jigsaw puzzles so maybe that counts. And I guess specific plants & trees could count for when I am gardening (bouganvilla, roses, strawberries, aloe, society garlic, orange, tangerine and grapefruit trees are the main ones)

I still have pretty much all of my gymnastics & school awards that I keep in a box in a safe place. But nowadays my dance awards are on display (where my gymnastics awards used to hang). To me those are not exactly something a person "collects" per se as one would collect memorabilia or coins and such... but I did save them over all these years.

  9. In either my Jr. or Sr. year of HS I had been accepted to Auburn University, but I ended up turning them down on the grounds that since I would have to pay out of state fees and my scholarship was only good in the State of Florida. Along with that, I turned them down when I admitted to myself the MAIN reason I wanted to go to AU was to compete in collegiate gymnastics (and being only a Level 8 gymnast, nationally ranked or not, I did not stand too high of a chance of making the cut because colleges tend to look for Level 10 or Elite level athletes).

I was a dual enrollment student my Junior and Senior years of high school. And I graduated from the local community college here with an Associate in Arts degree, general education degree for transfer to a 4 year school.

I did go to the University of North Florida for a short time, but because of a severe illness I had to cut my semester short. And when I did they said I did not have enough credit hours to continue my scholarship and told me I could not reinstate it even though my GPA was really good. And since I really did not have the funding to be able to continue at a University and also really was getting burned out with school I took a break for a little while. I was going for a Bachelor of Science in Physics and had planned to add Chemistry or Dance as a minor.

Burned out on the grounds that I went from Preschool through to my junior year of college without any real stops (summers I usually had off). That and from the age of three until the age of 22 I had also had countless hours of gymnastics training as well, so I just needed a break for a bit (though I would go on to train in gymnastics for a year before retiring from the sport)

I returned to the community college to get an Associate in Science degree in Chemical Technologies. And when I really sat down and thought for a while... though I have high grades in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology; I really have been more into Meteorology and Astronomy since I was very very young (A Star gazer and storm chaser at heart).

So when I go for a Bachelors degree I will head for a Meteorology one, and minor in either Astronomy or Chemistry.

  10. The attached pic is what is on my desktop now, a friend of mine sent me an email and this photo was one of the pictures in it

    cutecats.jpg

And before that (as of yesterday) I had this pic up... I had found it at a pokemon site and thought it was kinda funny.

  11. Or while trying to sing: the music of "Are You Happy Now" is playing while the lyrics to "I've Got You Under My Skin" scrolls by, while strange crackly noises happen. Either that PS2 is possessed or it is giving up the ghost... eh anyways we always end up keeping game consoles until they die completely or can be repaired in some manner.

But that is just funny... BTW I personally hope the Karoke disks are in the machine when it dies :eekout: hehehe!!

You are cruel, little brother... very cruel  BUt why would you want that? You'd lose out too... you are not big into singing and I know that, but you too have participated on the final volume and have done really well for someone who hates singing into microphones and trying to match the tones (which you know is not easy to do when you have a way different style of voice. Think of when I have to be stuck with a Britney Spears song, and I am more comfortable with an Evanescence or even a Gwen Steffani, A Perfect Circle, Avril Lavigne song when it comes to voices. Or  Getting stuck with that ridiculous Garth Brooks song  ) And you know I will avoid singing into microphones if I can help it, singing musical theater style (meaning w/o microphone) is much more comfortable because that way I KNOW that it won't deafen people... that is why when I play the game I do not "sing out" as mom & our sister think I should and instead I am almost whispering.

And besides those discs get mysteriously tossed or damaged and our mother would kick you in the rear because she will KNOW you are the one to blame! She hates some of the idiosynchrasies of the game (see above about matching voices that are not in your comfort area... we all know she gets stuck with stuff from Marvin Gaye, when she is much stronger with Cher and did extremely well with Hoobastank, A Perfect Circle & Evanescence whether she believes that or not.)

But Ma likes that game series and she too cannot wait for Volume 5 to come out, just like EmilSoong and I! Oh and Evee too... she even tells us when she wants to play the game or when she wants us to play Karaoke. If those discs go you are going to be dealing with the three of us, plus a VERY ticked off little 1 year old niece you DO realise that right?

ok back to the topic subject at hand

The Market Department at Sony would be retarded if they made the system cost THAT much.. I work Retail.. and I can tell you.. Guests don't want to shell out the money for their kids for one.. and the only people who would are rich OR extreme Gamers... I say they need to make a device which connects to online you pay a small monthly fee and play several hundred games. and if you want to store them you pay for the game it stores it in a internal hard drive. OR it can have a built in DVD/CD burner which will encode special disks. wait... ::writes this down:: heheh perhaps I should build one!

I believe there IS a place where you can go and pay a small fee and play hundreds of games. And they have a ton of the classics too. I do not watch much in the way of tv, but because I am sleeping out in the living room for the time being I caught this site being mentioned on late night TV.....but sadly cannot remember what it was called.

If I see the commercial again, I will of course post it here. And if you are home B.o.B. then I will try and get you to see it too. I do not think it was SBC Yahoo, but when I did a search for online gaming that one did pop up.

  12. you people really need. http://www.smashourstuff.com

    LOL

Hey Yillara just because the Drive makes noises "CLICK CLICK CLICK" and the picture wavers some times.. doesn't mean we've killed it yet......wait... never mind I pull my last statement..

I remember people making such a fuss at how they wanted a XBox... and now they too have joined many others in saying it was not really that much to write home about.

  13. Im waiting for PS3 personally, not that i was want, its that i want a PS2 so once 3 is out 2 will be dirt cheap like number 1.

I have a used PS2 that we ended up trading games and another console for. Places like EB Games is pretty good with that. Sadly we have all kinda played that system to death, between Beware's Monster Rancher and Soul Calibur and games like those... and EmilSoong, her daughter, our mother and I all playing Karaoke Revolutions to death. It makes it so soon we may need a new PS2... though the PS3 is tempting.

  14. Wait.. I missed that.. Magnavox is putting one out??

Ok, here is what I can share on the whole Magnavox part.

There is the Magnavox Odyssey, which was brought out in the 1970's

    The Magnavox Odyssey

It seems to be somewhat like the Atari system, and you may recognize some of it too... for some odd reason I do, though I swore I never played on that system :eekout:

Outside of that, I cannot find anything on any new systems put out by Magnavox unless they are doing so as a partnership with Nintendo or Sony.

Me, I am going to stick with my GameCube & GameboySP... and of course wait for the PS3 to come out and of course wait for it to come down in price a bit (since so far it seems like it will be backwards compatible with the other games).
