  1. I remembered the whole thing, and I had only seen the ep once (until a few weeks ago, when I got the season 1 DVD and now watch that ep over and over and over). And Riker was all rude when he finished the song for Data. If someone can't do something, it's really rude to show off how well you can. And only 42! Which is even worse in the future because then the life expectancy has increased to what, 110? or 120? In which case he lived a third of the life he should have IF HE WAS HUMAN!!

Yeah I can understand that all right about the "showing off" part. And, I always thought that Riker was showing off, if only a little bit! In gymnastics there are 10 levels, 10 being the highest and I am in 8! When a student of mine in Pre Level 2 or even Level 4 can't grasp the skill. . .I may show them how, but I try desperately to not do it exactly right. . .wobble, fall off, just anything to make sure they don't become discouraged. And I usually workout after most of them leave, just because I absolutely refuse to show off! Unless they ASK me to show them a high level skill, then I gladly perform the skill to the best of my ability.

  2. True, Riker does not have Encounter at Farpoint on DVD to watch like we do, so it was not surprising that he forgot the song. and the thing got all of us to remember it and many of us even started to sing or whistle the tune right there in the movie. It was a moment.

I had to drive home alone from the theater and i cried the whole 45 minute trip to get back home. Good thing no one got in my way that night, i would have run them over.

Why could Data have not set a phaser to overload and gone back with Picard...ok, so maybe that would not have worked, but him dying when his life was just beginning was NOT the answer. TOO YOUNG TO DIE!

Well, if the dreams of four sisters in faith came bring him back, we are good to go. Data has much left to do. Even B-4 could be in danger without Data to protect him. Maddox is still out there.  :)

OK, see your point, and maybe Riker is that forgetful. So I will give him benefit of a doubt! As for Data being to young to die. . .he was only 41 (42 in Feb. we all know) of course that is WAY TOO YOUNG.

Driving back home after Nemesis. . .We are so alike in this respect! My brother(younger than me) begged me not to drive out of the theater parking lot until I calmed down. That and I did scream at a couple people out of the car window, they cut me off (usually I am rather quiet about that sorta thing, angry but not verbal. . .that night I was very loudly opinionated about everything). Plus like you, I had a long drive back home from the movie. At nearly 10:30 at night that drive seemed like an eternity!

Our dear has so much unfinished business to attend to maybe our dream and wish does come true, that Data will return to us! And yes B4 is in extreme danger, since the poor guy doen't know any better about that sadistic idiot Maddox! He may think Maddox is a friend who will help him, after all Maddox could easily pull the wolf in sheep's clothing trick!

  3. How about the score for STTMP? I even had that one on an old LP and played it often. Goldsmith is great. Gave us the them for TNG on that one and the Klingon theme.

Yeah(gotta love that Theme) and that same piece (TNG) may become my floor exercise music for this year. Actually I am thinking of using "A New Ending" from Nemesis, since the song that Data sings (Blue Skies) appears in it. And in 1999, I had the Opening Credits and In Custody from Insurrection as my music for my gymnastics routine! Those were so great! I have three of the 4 TNG movie soundracks (used to have Generations, but I think it got mixed up with some of the stuff I sold at a yard sale :) ).

  4. No offense taken at all, Yillara Soong. (I hope I didn't make it sound that way. :) ) I was just giving my perspective of how seeing it before BTTF was.  Frankly, every time I see Chris Lloyd now I can't help but see Doc Brown myself.  Sort of like no matter what I see Leanord Nemoy, William Shattner, or Patrick Stewart in, I still see their ST personas. I guess that's because those characters are now Icons in our pop culture and if I were them I would be proud.     :)   I think your point is not only valid but important and not alone.

I am pleased to here that you did not take offense.

Yeah, I am guilty of seeing actors in their ST personas. My family does that too, They see Brent in a movie and scream down our hallway, "Hey Data is in this movie that is on!" And I'd scream back, Which Star Trek is on? and they'd tell me it wasn't a ST film. And to finish the argument by I'd say "Data is not in the movie Brent is, and they are two entirely differect people!" Which will get them either laughing or telling me that no matter what I say they will always be one and the same!

Then I'd turn around and complain about all those dumb priceline commercials that Captain Kirk was in, and the argument would go in reverse! I know that may be confusing and it confuses us sometimes when this scenario happens, but it DOES happen.

  5. I still hope that one day, Data would get to fix Lore. I would not want Lore to be a copy of Data, since Lore was interesting in himself, but i would want him fixed.

Lore, IMO, was not evil, just way too full of himself. He was told that he was better then humans and he took that to mean that he should be treated as an almost God by us. When the colony folk were scared of him instead of envious, he got hurt, confused and angry. But how does an android with the IQ of a million and the strength of ten men learn to control his anger? I think that Dr. Soong must have ignored Lore when Lore needed him most and that Juliana was to afraid to get too close to him for fear of Lore breaking down like the others. So, poor Lore was left to his own and did not choose well on how to deal with his anger.

But can you imagine what he would be like if he were well adjusted, inside and...well, inside? He would be funny. :)

That is so good, sister! Your post makes complete sense. And we all know that us Soongs are gonna try to talk everyone into believing he wasn't evil, and everyone will be trying to change OUR minds! And yes I think that he was completely alone in the weeks after his "birth". He seems to be the child that no one wanted! That is sad, because he could have been much more!

Lords, no I'd never want Lore to be a copy of Data, as much as I don't want B4 to be a copy either. Each son of Soong was different, each an individual. . .and they should forever stay that way. I did want to see Lore get help. . . whoever and wherever that could occur!

  6. Welcome Stoek, you definately will find this board to be a rather uplifting experience. After all the spamming on the Official Boards began, I and my Sisters transferred here. And it truly is a much better place!

  7. You're a Sister of Soong, remember that! All of us Soongs tend to get started on this subject! And it's because of talking with you, soong_girl and Lessa, that I am not so depressed! I loved Data since I was seven, and then he was so violently taken from us. . .and then you call that a proper wake and funeral! Come on, Ebenezer Scrooge just about got more of one than Data! That was just evil and disrespectful! And YES Riker forgetting "Pop Goes The Weasel", that just about proves to me that there are no lights on in that brain of his! Everytime I go to practice music on my clarinet, I bring that song out and attempt to play. Attempt because, when you play a reeded instrument you shouldn't be smiling or laughing , and I tend to have a problem not doing that. Fond memory. Can't help that!

Dear, sister just remember that all us Soongs are here and that you should feel free to vent, rant, or cry. . .prevents you from getting too depressed! I want him back too!

  8. I pretty much just watch Star Trek. I've watched SG1 a couple times but can't stop thinking of the movie.

I've only watch SG-1 a few times and I know that a lot of you will disagree with me but I think it's kinda lame. I did like the movie a lot though.

I understand completely and agree with you too! Loved the movie, hated the show!

Oh, I thought of another sci-fi show I used to watch, Sliders. That one also got to be too weird for me!

  9. EEK! I was so hoping to get a copy of Ol' Yellow Eyes, but it was never available in my home town. But, I have always enjoyed his singing whenever I get the chance to listen to that beautiful voice :) ! I have a copy of him singing "When I Fall In Love" :) (A song I have always enjoyed), and I once had a copy of the New cast of 1776, He was great in that as well :) ! OK, personal gripe here :) , sometimes the makers of soundtracks put songs other than the scores on an album, why oh why couldn't they put him singing "A British Tar" (Insurrection) and "Blue Skies" (Nemesis) on those albums! I like and own both CD's but would have loved to have those BONUS tracks!

  10. I kinda got that impression dsbs. But then again, does age really mean much when your talking trek, I mean if I wanted to (and the parents agreed) I could take my preschool gymnastics class into a TV room and have them watch TOS on sci fi. And then if they like it they'd start talking about it and if they keep it up by six or seven, they could easily talk to people who watched TOS first run . So I do not think age makes a difference in talking Trek!

And like you, I rarely give my name and age on the internet, how can you be sure what will happen to anything you do or say? I am proud of my name, and I thouroughly enjoy my age, but I don't want anything bad to happen either!

  11. Really, a city named Vulcan? I gotta go check a map now. Yeah I am sure they capitalize on the association, pretty much like the town in Iowa where Kirk is supposed to be born. To the point of selling soil to anyone interested! And he is not supposed to be born for another century!

  12. OK, DSBS, I shall stop. Oh, and soong_girl I decided not to mention Bruce "I got a chip on my shoulder, and a bug up my b**t" Maddox on the grounds that I could easily make Captain in reguards to posts about why I'd like to see this guy tortured! I hate him! He said he wanted to study Data, when we all know he'd wind up murdering him! Plus, I am desperately trying not to swear while I am writing this! AND NO I DON'T THINK HE"D HAVE A BRAIN! :) :) :) There are no lights on upstais and he definately has no heart! OK, I think I'll go scream now!

  13. Very cute Data, Back to the Future really isn't that bad, after all!

Anyway, this thread reminds me of a discussion between my mother, brother and myself. My brother is quite peeved anytime a history teacher makes the statement "This is an event that changed history." My brother and I agree that one day it may be possible for time travel, and that if you were to go back to the past and change something you are not changing history at all. In fact you are always going to end up changing the future. There, at least in our opinion, is no such thing as an event or person that changed HISTORY, it will only affect the future. Since the future will soon be today and both will soon be history. Teachers should say this event paved the way for these subsequent events, or this event changed the way we live life today, ect. If this is confusing to anyone, time was never meant to be easy. If it were we would not be discussing it now.

On a side note, I was a physics major until last year(now majoring In Interdisciplinary Studies-Chemistry, Biology and Physics) and my brother is interested in Cybernetics, Paleontology, and Robotics.

  14. Yep, I noticed all the bugs, seemed every Holodeck ep had something going wrong! But, then again maybe it is just because they(Starfleet) hadn't worked out all the bugs by the time we see them in the series! I kinda like the idea of the holodeck, since it allows you to safely experience scenarios. Like mountain climbing, I'd love to try it, but I live in Florida and the only chance to climb a mountain is A)travel to the mountains, or B)go to a gym that has a rotating rock wall. Plus, the perk of safety protocols means that if I were to fall off said mountain, I'd only sustain minor injuries! Can't beat that, after all I have already sustained enough injuries in my life!

  15. hmm. . . I just got the gift set of the three TNG movies, and if the SE's are as good as everyone says, I may just get those if they come out soon. I used to have the VHS, but when I got the DVD's I gave my tapes to my brother. I could pass my old DVD's down if I got the new ones! Hey, that'd work! :)

  16. Actually, even though I am posting, I hadn't voted because I don't have a particular album to choose. I simply liked certain songs from different albums. Couple of my favorite songs: Let It Be, When I'm 64, Yellow Submarine, and Imagine. There are a few more, but since this is an album discussion, I will leave them off for right now!

  17. I voted yes, that I'd put my birthdate in if it didn't include a year, but then again I'd put it down if it did have it too. Several people on the board have already read that I am about to turn 23, so if you did the math my birth year would be easy for people to guess! I have not posted my birthday yet, just cause I did not feel like doing so yet.

  18. I know you love him, sister. That is what I figured when I posted something once and you defended him like my sister does!(Remember, she was the one in love with Lore to the point of marrying a guy who acts sorta like him)

Hee hee, "Dad always liked him better" :) That is so true for Lore!

  19. I'm like Yillara in that I am a TNG fan.  I'm not sure about a mixed cast - I guess it would depend on who they were.  Would 7 have to go to the Academy before be able to serve on another ship?  What about the Maquis?  As it has been pointed out they were outlaws.  If they are pardoned would B'Elanna have to go back to the Academy since she didn't graduate?  Avery Brooks seems to be on the outs with the powers that be at Paramount as they have pretty much said that his character couldn't be brought back.  Michael Dorn almost didn't do Nemesis because of contract negotiation problems so would he want to play Worf yet again.

The biggest problem would be bringing in all of these characters and then not having anything for most of them to do.  It was very difficult in the TNG movies to get all of the regulars involved in the plot and it would be very difficult to do more than 2 story lines in a 2 hour movie without it becoming very confusing.

Personally if Patrick Stewart and/or Brent Spiner aren't involved I doubt I would go.  I'm willing to see how B4 will develop after he has assimilated Data's programing.

I agree, though I don't watch the other series I have read articles and posts on the boards about the other characters from the other series. It is difficult enough to find time for each character in a TNG, let alone more than one series group! And like soong_girl I doubt I'd go to see Trek XI if those two weren't involved. . .especially Brent!
